[ There is a familiar heartbeat around. She hasn't said anything yet, if an ambush is coming, it's a poor one. Gone are the days she would have pulled him out by the scruff of his neck and demanded to know what he wanted. Earth has made her softer, and she doesn't mind. ]
[ She busies herself with the construction, helping to take up girders, watchful for accidents. Someone's already fallen this week, and there are heroes around, sure, but she was closest. She'd like to be the closest. Even on her coffee break, her eyes still scan the site. ]

He takes after his father in that way.
But she's part of Clark's family. Just like the annoying little boy is. And so, just like the little boy, he feels obligated to protect them.
He doesn't ambush so much as he simply stops following and lets himself be seen. Waiting for her on the ground floor - not in uniform, he doesn't actually think that would serve this meeting well. ]
Kara, right?
no subject
That's me.
[ She looks him up and down just once. ]
I'm sorry, I don't think I've met any version of you.
[ She would know. ]
no subject
but in this case - he hasn't met a version of her either. this is where a normal person would extend a hand to shake or offer a greeting. damian, instead, studies her with a serious expression. ]
Damian.
[ at least he actually gives a name instead of just staring like a weirdo ]
no subject
It's nice to meet you, Damian. How do you know me?
no subject
[ Or used to. Jon had said he lived with his cousin - for all he knows, though, she could be from Lois' side of the family and this place just happened to give her a very familiar powerset.
That's what had happened to him after all. ]
How do you know the Kents?
no subject
They are my family.
no subject
[ A little more insistence. ]
no subject
Why are you asking?
no subject
But this world is something he can't fathom, and he has to admit, he's terribly jealous of it. ]
I work with Clark.
no subject
[ She measures a breath. Not about to lie, but she's not detailing her entire life's sob story for a relative stranger, a friend of Clark's or not. ]
He's my biological cousin, on my father's side.
no subject
That shouldn't be possible. That - shouldn't be possible. Surely someone would have found her, the last Kryptonian wouldn't have gone unnoticed for so long. His father would have -
but there it is. Right there. Different world. Different father. Different set of circumstances. ]
So he's not the last.
no subject
[ And there aren't that many others. Her own father — but that is better left where it is, left alone to take however long it needs to heal. ]
Where are you from?
[ It's fairly obvious what kind of work he does, but still, he could surprise her, he could be a journalist. ]
no subject
[ Not a journalist. Unless he's a murder columnist. ]
Not the one you know.
no subject
[ She squints at him. ]
I've heard you aren't very friendly.
[ It doesn't bother her, but it explains a few things. ]
no subject
I don't need friends to do my job.
no subject
Well that's only a problem if you want to work with me.
[ What a dork. Honestly. ]
Did you just stop by to say hello? You could get coffee while you're here.
no subject
No.
[ yes, sort of. But he isn't sure how to say 'Clark is important to me, therefore you're important by default' other than punching people in the face or in the middle of a crisis.
One on one, all he has is a prickly lack of social skills. ]
no subject
No as in, I've tried it before and I don't like, I don't have time for coffee, I'm marking this off the list and going now to do something else...?
no subject
[ And he's still standing there despite himself. After stalking her for like a month. ]
no subject
[ She pauses, then makes a bit of a face. ]
Wow, serial killer really is the best I could go with. Okay.
no subject
[ please take this small child away from him. ]
And you'd be a piss poor serial killer.
no subject
[ Kara no ]
[ Luckily, she gets distracted. ]
So you've met Jon?
[ He is the BEST. You will love him and despair. ]
What about my other cousin? Kon?
no subject
And he's been avoiding all of them. Because they're all fucking dead and almost a big a reminder of his past fuckups as Dick Grayson is. ]
The brat refuses to leave me alone.
no subject
[ It tells her a few things. She strategises, and shakes her empty cup. ]
I'm going to get a refill. They usually have enough for everyone.
[ So he can follow if he likes. ]
no subject
Tt.
[ clearly to study her more.
clark was robbed of his family. completely. she represents what could have been. she and the boy.
it's... painful. it was hard to see a father that actually cared about him, in his own weird way. harder to see a family that the joker had ripped to pieces before it had even been formed. ]
