Afternoon Out [Closed]
WHO: Adora and Carol
WHERE: Heropa
WHEN: Pre-November 12th
WHAT: Blonde Chosen Ones blowing off steam
WARNINGS: Nothing. These two are pure.
Hanging out had been on the agenda for a little bit now, and with the end of the world impending, now seemed as good a time as any to work that out. Adora had just gone with the internet's suggestion of what she should wear to a 50's Diner, even if polka dots weren't her usual look. Hair still tied back, she's standing on a street corner waiting for her friend, just kind of idly flipping through the network to keep abreast of the news.
Whenever Carol arrives, she waves smartly.
"Hey!"

"Hey!"

When Adora waves, she waves back, touching down and letting the light which surrounded her as she flew dissipate and fall away.
"Hey," she says, smiling. "Hope I didn't keep you waiting long."
no subject
Adora wouldn't have really considered this dressing up since it was just a dress she'd picked up at a thrift shop. It was just something different to wear, and she was beginning to enjoy costumes and stuff.
"Maybe a minute or two, not long enough to notice."
Grinning, she turns towards their destination, adjusting her device into a socket on the bracer she wore visibly on her arm. Figuring out how to shapeshift the Sword of Protection had been really useful. Now she'd never be unarmed.
"So, what sort of stuff do they even serve at a place like this? Obviously I wasn't around in the 1950s. And I don't think you were either, unless time works differently in space."
no subject
"Thanks for the vote of confidence. No the 50s were before even my time." She's teasing, but it's all in good fun.
"Diner food is usually classic American cuisine... Milkshakes, burgers, melts. Nice and greasy, to clog your arteries."
no subject
Bless her having the workout routine of a major gymrat and the metabolism of an anime character, really. Slipping inside, she beams at the old linoleum and chairs and the smells...oh all those greaseball burgers smell amazing. The Beach Boys playing in the background is a nice touch too.
"Don't eat like this a lot, it's way different than anything on Etheria, but in a good way."
no subject
A waitress wearing a crisp white uniform with a red apron comes over to their table and hands them some menus.
"Order whatever you want, my treat."
no subject
"...Did you decide to take my advice and register?" she asks, considering whether or not to take her friend up on the offer.
It mattered mostly because Adora could eat a lot, and also she'd been curious.
no subject
"Everybody I spoke to made some really good points, but in the end, I can't help this world the way I want to unless I register."
no subject
Adora doesn't really have a huge stake in whether or not anyone else registered, but she felt like it was the right move to make for just about anyone. She didn't think the government would ask for anything harsh, and the pay made it easier to get by. And live well, during this weird interlude.
"I'm glad that you made that call. It's just easier, I think, and there's no good reason to pass up on any of the benefits when there's no downsides."
...Says the girl that couldn't even begin to fathom the idea of a police state.
no subject
Carol isn't going to bring the mood down by pointing out the possible downsides, so she decides to study the menu instead.
"Ooh, Oreo milkshake. Sounds good to me."
Maybe it's too abrupt a subject change, but Carol is about as subtle as a bull in a china shop.
no subject
...It doesn't take a lot to distract Adora, honestly.
Subject changes aren't hard, just distract her with food.
"...I guess that's what I'm having too."
no subject
Food is always a good conversation topic, in Carol's book. The greasier the better.
no subject
She taps her thumb over part of the menu.
"...Get this cheeseburger with the egg. That sounds good to me. And a little unusual so I should definitely try it."
no subject
With perfect timing, their waitress comes back over to take their orders. Carol speaks up, taking charge.
"Two Oreo milkshakes. My friend here will have the cheeseburger with the egg, and I'll have a patty melt with fries." He hesitates, then changes the order slightly. "Actually, make that a basket of fries for the table."
To Adora, "We can share."
no subject
"Thanks, Carol," she says after a moment, when the waitress scurries off to take care of the orders.
"Is it like this on your Earth too? Restaurants and stuff like this, I mean."
no subject
At the question, she takes the time to look around the diner, at its retro decor. "Not exactly like this. I mean, I'm sure there are a few fifties-themed diners out there, but most stuff is more modern."
She pauses, and laughs.
"Well, more modern than this but not as modern as some of the rest of this Earth. I am from a few decades back in time."
no subject
That's what she remembers then.
"Earth's hard to keep straight because so much of it is so similar, and what isn't is really, really different."
Taking her time, she eyes the assorted stuff on the wall...
"Those cars sure look weird. With the flaps on the back."
no subject
She imagines it'd be different in the same way Hala was different. Just strange enough to be alien.
She follows Adora's line of sight to the cars displayed on the wall.
"The ones that run along the side, pointing up, those are called tailfins. The raised bar across the back is called a spoiler."
no subject
We'll...get back to the Etheria thing.
no subject
And nowadays, there's a whole different meaning to the word 'spoiler' that Carol isn't used to.
"I prefer planes over cars, anyway."
no subject
It's interesting, because it's such a thing different kind of career than anything at home.
no subject
Until, you know, her world got a little bigger.
no subject
She's lost her flying horse and all...but, she's still fond of the sky.
no subject
She smiles at Adora, getting a sense of what the younger girl is feeling.
"They have civilian flight schools, too. I was assigned to teach one when I first got here, here in Heropa. I'm sure I could get you a discount, if you want to go for your pilot's license."
no subject
She blinks, surprised. They had schools for that kind of thing? For non-military?
"I'd like that a lot, Carol. I know how to fly Horde transport craft, back home. I think it'd be neat to fly one of those little things they have here, too."
no subject
It's nothing, compared to what Carol is used to flying in the Air Force, but it still gives you a chance to get above the clouds.
no subject
It's not the same as a flying horse, but the Porter took that power away.
"Truth be told, I really miss having Swiftwind around. My...horse...at home, has wings."
no subject
"That's pretty cool. I've seen a lot, but I've never seen that before."
no subject
Which. That is a weird thing, but it's fine.
"I had one here for a while? But the Porter sent me back and brought me back with weird new powers instead of the horse."
no subject
She has a weird enough power of her own, though she doesn't get much opportunity to use it.
no subject
Adora holds up her hand, wiggling her fingers...and makes sparkles flicker between them.
"I can make sparkles. They stick to stuff for a few hours, like...I don't know. Magical glitter."
no subject
no subject
Don't hold out on her.
no subject
"Cat telepathy. I can talk to cats... with my brain."
no subject
Adora pauses. Unsure for a moment, before going on.
"...Do cats have a lot to say?"
no subject
"But it's no worse than talking to people."
no subject
Ugh. Swiftwind was a chatty fellow, too.
no subject
She can't imagine a whole race of talking horses.
no subject
And yeah. Horses are weird.
no subject
So lucky for her that this is when their food arrives. Carol smiles, thanking the server and pulling her milkshake towards her.
"Dig in!"
