// Take a bow for the bad decisions that we made | October 1-9
Nico was missing. Not the way he normally went missing when he wanted to be alone either--he was easy to find then. No. This was a total absence, a void. No network signal, residence empty, and no sign of him anywhere near Hades.
This, of course, meant Will was going to spend the first days of the month searching for the other boy. A fruitless, pointless search, he knew--but he had to do something. And that meant ending up in places where he shouldn't be and where he normally wouldn't go alone. It meant getting caught trespassing and ending up in trouble.
It meant he needed someone to lean on.

Cruising through the doom days | Zombies
"You have got to be kidding me." Is the general reaction Will has with any encounter with the undead. A-typical? Sure. But it was to be expected from anyone that had dated someone connected to Death and the Undead. Honestly, he was kind of over the idea of zombies. He really could do without them trying to make him a late-night snack after a long day at the clinic, though.
"Dude. Come on." A swift kick shook the zombie trying to cling to, and take a bite out of, his leg. Rude.

It couldn't have been. A face he had thought he would never see again, spotted in the crowd. "Michael?!"
He knew he should doubt it, shouldn't believe that his half-brother was here of all places. With all that was happening lately, he really should have thought harder about what he was seeing. Instead, he ran after the spectral apparition, calling after him to no avail.
He didn't realize where this was leading until it was too late, until the doors of the train slid closed behind him and it shuddered to life. "Oh, Hades..."
Now what?

October's chill had fully settled in DeChima, bring it with it morning fog and cloudy rain. Even knowing that the fog that stuck around here now was thick and lingering--and it made an unsettling feeling settle in the pit of his stomach.
"Aren't you tired of pretending like you're fine with everything they do?" A sneering comment out of the evening dark.
He should keep walking, but the question caught him off guard and caused him to stop and look for the source "Who?"
"The gods. Dad. They make life so difficult. Look how many died because of their quests, their selfish little need to remain relevant."
Will clenched his teeth, glaring out into the dense fog. "They aren't--the quests are meant to test us, without training most of us wouldn't survive regardless."
"And that makes it better? Okay?" The source of the voice finally slid into view. A perfectly imperfect reflection of Will--just enough off to tell that something wasn't quite right. "Wouldn't it be so much easier if they just...stopped existing? Someone really should take care of them. Luke had a point, even if he let Kronos take control of that ideal."

october 1, night
Either way: above his paygrade. Way above his paygrade. But alas, the team's been stretched thin, and here he is, pursuing leads for a case. He can't even fight back fair, with only a combat ukulele for real self-defense. Tonight, he's not expecting much, especially as he passes through a bunch of abandoned buildings. Someone had called in about unusual activity near Hades, with more broken windows and debris than usual - like a search is underway.
Lester enters the building the same way the 'unusual activity' must have, by jumping over broken glass and through an old shop window. He draws a deep breath, surveying the area. Honestly, he's already expecting a fight (or worse, one of Guzma's goons) -
"Okay, whoever's out here," he calls, making his voice purposefully loud - so it comes out crystal-clear, through old, creaky loudspeakers, through abandoned merchandise, through whatever can transmit a message, "I'm gonna go easy on you. Just talk to me."
Oh boy oh boy
There's also the fact that his initial reaction to hearing someone else nearby was to cheese-it and run. Not that he actually made any attempt at making a break for it. No, he froze, ducked behind some overturned shelving. The action he took immediately upon hearing a familiar voice was even more embarrassing and decidedly not the actions of a criminal.
"Dad?" An incredulous, disbelieving question tossed out as he peeked around his last-minute cover.

An undignified noise leaves Lester's lips as he stares back at Will, holding up a couple of fingers –
"Will?" He's hallucinating. He has to be. Will is better than him, both in medicine and the law. Will wouldn't be caught dead in this sketchy neighborhood, let alone by himself when he could just drag Nico along. "Are you–"
A stupid question. Of course Will is perfect, and fine, and totally not a criminal. Apollo shakes his head, rushing over to get a better look.
"What're you doing here?"
no subject
"I uh...was looking for something." Someone. A half-truth more than a lie, really.
"That's it."
no subject
He's not upset; if anything, he's puzzled. No god can send Will on a quest, and as for his workplace: Iris West is far too sensible to ask any kind of favor. Whatever he's doing, he's doing of his own free will.
Why couldn't someone have made a parenting book, preferably for those who are looking after their sons of the same physical age? It would've made this easier.
"Well... whatever you're looking for, I don't think you'll find it here." He settles on, letting out a deep breath. "Why don't we go together? Two heads are better than one?"
no subject
"I'm not really sure it's even...worth searching. I had to do something." The signal was gone, no way to find him on the network. Still, he wouldn't be Will if he didn't try, even understanding the realities of the situation.
no subject
He can't blame his kid, either. They had always felt like a package deal - get his sonshine, get one Nico along for the ride. Seeing one without the other, especially now, is troubling.
"Of course." He doesn't want to say Nico's name just yet, so he thinks back to what he had done when Quatre had left. "Where else have you tried looking?"
October 21
Her own shadow said a lot of similar things, about giving up and giving in. However, just because she was going to put up with her own shadow doesn't mean she is going to put up with someone else's shadow bothering them.
"Hey, leave him alone," she snapped at the shadow, even though she could not see it either. "He doesn't need you making him question everything."
no subject
"Shouldn't he though? Question the powers that keep him underfoot and complacent to their wills and ways?"
A wince, shoulders hunched as the shadow's words sank in.
"Stop it." The plea is more of a whisper, one that only causes the shadow's grin to spread.

She could argue all day.
“There are all sorts of things keeping us underfoot and complacent. Gravity. Our social constructs. That seasons happen. The fact that we need oxygen to survive. You mentioned gods. Tell me, do your gods threaten the existence of the universe? Or are they just petty and dumb?”
October 20 - Ghost Train
The doors slam behind her and she can't help the soft 'fuuuuuuck' that escapes her. This is obviously just what she needs today.

"A trap? I followed someone here but--" What had they gotten themselves into?
no subject
"Definitely a trap and I vote we stick together."
no subject
"Name's Will by the way. Who did you follow in?"
no subject
She does one more quick scan of the area, confirming nothing new has appeared, before giving Will the majority of her focus.
"I was following an enemy. I guess."
