H.O.P.E

[ Her attendance was spotty in September, but Ruby has managed to show up to school nearly every day in October. The only problem is that she seems to be getting more and more on edge, and there are just some classes she misses. She hasn’t gone to a single math class, and every so often she could be seen just getting up and running outside when any other class started to touch too strongly on mathematics.

Ruby can most commonly be found in the library during math class, and sitting in a sunny place while she eats during lunch. After school she spends an hour or two training in the various rooms. Or just climbing up the side of the building when she thinks no one is watching - whichever is most convenient at the time. ]

Park!!!

[ When some people go to the park they just go to have fun, or even just stretch their legs. When Ruby goes to the park she goes for the mixture of dogs and of public equipment that is just a lot of fun to play around with. In the parks of various porter cities Ruby can be found collecting gangs of both stray and not-stray dogs to run around the park with for a few hours, and sometimes she can just be found climbing whatever is around. It’s not uncommon to see her just start scaling a light pole. ]

Teen mischief (read: breaking and entering)

[ Ruby’s social misconduct does not end there. Like many teens she has a lot of energy to spare, and a lot of boredom to make that energy seem more and more urgent to release. On occasion she decides to use this energy to go to places she shouldn’t.

Be it an office-building after-hours, or climbing over the fence to private property marked with warnings of ‘intruders will be shot’, Ruby has made it her business to sneak in, leave a little sticker in a hard-to-reach spot, and get back out without anyone noticing she was there.

That last part isn’t always certain, but what is certain is that if she’s seen the fact that she is the size of a child will not make her look any less sketchy in the dark grey clothing and balaclava. ]

Pearl’s Diner

[ Not all of Ruby’s activities involve tardiness or youthful misdemeanors! She also has a job as a waitress at Pearl’s Diner, a nice little place in DeChima. If you take a seat she’ll walk right on up to you, looking like she has perhaps met a hair brush once or twice in her life, and talk calmly with a slight smile. ]

Closed to Barbara and Harry, De Chima #003

[ They’d set up a date and time between them, and Ruby, to her credit, had been home on time and had even showered and changed into clean clothes. She was going to be *good* about this.

Less to her credit was the fact that she could fit everything she had about her costume design in one folder and still have lots of room. So there she was, making rounds around the house, too excited to sit down, as she waited for all parties to show up. ]

[They shouldn't be doing this. They absolutely should not be doing this and if they got caught, it wouldn't just be his arse on the line but Ruby's as well. The whole 'do not get caught' was the reason he'd man-bunned his hair into a sports cap and donned a five-fingered discount with a cheap pair of sunglasses.

Also, gloves and pokeballs in the backpack.

But, even so, this was for fun; something to keep skills sharp. And, maybe he was bored and wanted to impress Ruby before he asked her out to Karaoke.

Plus, he'd already scoped out this area of the city enough to know it was decently crime-ridden and native metahumans didn't come here.]

[ Ruby looked back and grinned, not that it could be seen behind the mask. ] Looks like you've got a good eye for this. [ She looked at the building. ] We could probably do all sorts of stuff with this place before anyone noticed.

[ This wasn't her usual sort of breaking and entering - it was less fun if people wouldn't be by within 48 hours - but it was a good way to gauge how they worked together. When they'd decided Niko would choose the building she'd half expected him to choose some sort of place with a lot of security. He was sensible on many levels, but she knew full well he was also cocky, so it was a pleasant surprise that he'd chosen such a good starting ground. ]

Did you ever learn how to pick locks?

[ She should have asked this sooner, but this was an exploratory mission, so it would be fine. ]

[There's an honest grin on his face, even with how he puffs up a bit, glad these skills aren't as rusty as he'd assumed.

The grin sours though at the mention of picking locks and Nikolai shrugs. The lessons he'd hated as a child; what good were they when you could just use a ghost or electric type to do it for you?]

Tch. I can do a basic one if I have to. What about you?

We can think of something if no one does anything to it in a couple weeks. For now we scout. [ She says this with a grin. ]

Medium here. If I was given enough practice I could probably handle a hard lock, but that's a bit much to attempt in only a few minutes. I'll take care of any locks this time, unless you want to go half and half with them.

[ She made sure her balaclava was secure, then motioned for him to follow her, planning to lead to a path that would give them a good view of how the building looked from a few angles. She was hoping for a back door. ]

Right. We'll split if we find a hard one, or I can get Baku to open it.

[Though, releasing any pokemon would be noisy and not something he'd do unless they needed it.

He nods as he follows after her, eyes sharp and focused behind the sunglasses.

The rundown house was rundown and it likely hadn't seen a coat of paint in at least a decade if not more. It was single storey and but big enough to be probably a two-bedroom place with a decent yard out the back.]

[there must be nothing a dog loves more than someone who wants nothing to do with a dog, because Cecelia need only be passing through in her trying-to-be-discreet-but-looking-suspect-just-by-trying attire in her hasty, harried way for them to see and think: yes, that one! play with that one!

she hears the jingle of dog tags and panting just in time to freeze up, her eyes going big behind her coke bottle sunglasses as she braces, hugging her clutch and book tightly to herself.

[ Ruby had tried to stop the dog, and the three that followed after it, but it was almost as if this stranger in the conspicuous garb was a magnet for the beasts. While she'd managed to calm down the majority of the quartet before they could jump on the young woman, the initial escapee was unstoppable. At least until he was jumping up on poor Cece.

Ruby did not stop running, but she was still a little bit away. ] Hey hey! Guy! Get down!

[in Cecelia's opinion, it's entirely unfair that electrocuting people and creatures up in one's personal space is frowned-upon, and so she suffers the brunt of scraping paws and a slobbery tongue that makes her skin crawl. gross. gross, gross, gross!!

to her credit, she doesn't flail or make a scene, instead trying to rise up on her toes while tucking her face against her belongings, shoulders drawn up to her earlobes. honestly, if this thing tries to bite her, or worse, lick her face--!

she peeks out from her book when the pawing ceases, with Ruby there doing her best to field not one, but four dogs. Cecelia's mouth twitches as she takes a cautious step backward.]

N...Nice dogs you have there...?

[ Ruby has picked up the dog, which is quite a feat as it's more than half her size and wiggling and squirming. ]

They're loaners. [ She grins. ] Sort of. Dogs like me, a lot.

[The weather has gotten cold enough that he's swapped out the jean jacket for a black hoodie. He's looking for a place to do some drawing, while also taking the cat out for a walk. So far she's been good, and hasn't tried to climb any trees.

He's eyeballing a few trees to sit up against when he looks up at a lamppost, raising an eyebrow.]

You know, I'm pretty sure they have guys who can change those out.

[ Ruby, who was nearly to the top, looked down, then grinned. ] I do this for fun, not profit! [ She then sped up the rest of the way, knowing exactly how to use what little weight she had to get to the top safely. Once to the top, she held on with one arm, and waved at him with the other one. ]

[Finn gave her a little clap, while the black cat just looked up curiously. She was on a leash, so she wasn't going anywhere.]

[ Ruby couldn't help it, she had to reach out to the cat, sending feelings of warm greetings towards the creature. She then looked to Finn. ] I'd bow, but I'm not really in much of a position to at the moment.

You haven't introduced me to this handsome little one yet, either.

[ Harry smiled as he arrived, a small bag of spell ingredients slung over one shoulder as he knocked. He was dressed simply in a leather jacket and jeans, runes embroidered in the seams of both, and he was glad to help.

He hoped this would go well.

[ Were Harry sharp-eared enough he would hear the sounds of Ruby vaulting over several pieces of furniture while shouting 'Coming!' A few moments later the door would open up to the girl grinning and practically bristling with energy. ] Hey! [ She then turned her head back into the house to shout. ] Barbara! He's here!

[Ruby's excitement is infectious, and it isn't long before Barbara is wheeling into the front room with a warm grin and an array of sewing supplies on her lap.] Hey there. Welcome to the party.

[Obviously, her gaze is drawn to the runes in his clothes, and her expression turns fascinated.] Are those the enchantments you were talking about? [Magic isn't her forte - it frustrates the hell out of her, truth be told - but that doesn't mean it doesn't interest her. Or that she won't take advantage of it, especially when it comes to protecting a friend.]

["Trespassers will be shot" does not deter certain Pokemon either. Look, he's a detective. Sometimes you kinda find answers to questions no one was even asking. The second he spots Ruby, however, he stops slinking from the shadows to approach.

Geez. And he thought Tim's girlfriend was a danger-seeking dame. Once he's mostly visible in the dim moonlight, he hisses:] What are you doing?

[ It was only practice that kept Ruby from flinching at the sound of a familiar voice. An unfamiliar voice was to be expected, and could be dealt with. But a voice belonging to someone she knew? Well that was a potential disaster.

She turned her head to look back at Pikachu. It wasn't someone from the Justice League at least. If her boss found out she had this particular hobby he'd probably make her stop, and then she'd have to find something else that got the blood pumping. She toned her voice down a little before speaking, hoping that between that and the fact she was dressed all shady with the mask and all he wouldn't recognise her. ] Exploring.

Really? 'Cause you look like a cat burglar and that would be really inconvenient, since I'm out of my jurisdiction... And my badge is no good here.

[He doesn't seem to recognize her so much as he would be doing this to any punk he happened to find doing a Crime. Granted, he's just all but admitted he has no reason to be here either, but shhh.]

Cat burglars steal. I'm not here to steal. There are way easier places to get a good haul than a place that threatens to shoot you on sight. [ She shook her head. ] Really, anyone coming here with the intent to make money is in for a rude and painful awakening.

Me, though, I just like to explore and see things I'm not strictly supposed to.

[ Then she tilted her head a little, making sure the action was obviously seen by him. ]

So, why are you here, if this is outside your jurisdiction?

[He has a way of getting in to places, and doing it faster than most people can move, and it's not something he could teach to others. It's just a thing he can do. He also has a certain disregard for the rules. So when he'd noticed her climbing, and worked out her probable goal, he heads there himself. When she arrives wherever she was headed, she'll find him already there, leaning casually against the nearest surface, waiting for her to arrive.]

Something tells me this isn't what you're supposed to be doing right now.

[ Her goal, or, at least step one in her goals list, was to get to the rooftop entrance she'd read about when looking at the old hospital's blueprints. She had planned out every bit of how she was going to scale the four-floor building without being seen, without being caught. And then. THEN. She gets to the top, and leaning against the door is this guy in a suit! Near a hospital that's in its last year of operation as its slowly phased out!

So naturally, when he speaks, she does what any teenager would when caught in a situation they didn't expect, but see no immediate threats. She pretends that it's not a big deal. ]

Well. No duh. I'm certainly not a patient here.

[ Real smooth, kiddo. ]

[At least he looks completely unbothered by her presence here, and he doesn't appear to work here, either, so he's not trying to get her to leave, or in trouble. Considering he shouldn't be here either.]

Do you climb things a lot?

[ The fact that he doesn't seem to be bothered, or interested in getting her to leave, is definitely different from the script she expected this encounter to follow. She hadn't quite caught on to the fact that he shouldn't be here, assuming that perhaps he was one of the big-wigs of the hospital. ]

I do. It's a fun hobby.

[ There was maybe a little distrust in her voice, despite her attempt to not let it show. ]
