[OPEN] No good deed
WHO: Georgia & Shaun & ANYONE/EVERYONE! [OPEN]
WHERE: Heropa! Out and about.
WHEN: Today!
WHAT: The musical event gets its claws into Shaun and George with a duet.
WARNINGS: Adopted sibling incest, purple prose (literally purple we color coded), rewrite of a song from Wicked that managed to include a reference to zombies.
It isn’t a date. Georgia and Shaun don’t do dates. But it is them taking the closest thing to a day off either of them has seen in a long time. In Heropa, which is just far enough from their usual Nonah home that it feels thrillingly anonymous. They might not be going so far as actually showing physical affection, but they are walking close together.
Maybe too close. The music starts to swell behind them, and suddenly they’re alone in the world, or at least, so far as they can tell. Georgia places a hand on Shaun’s shoulder.
Shaun turns to face her, slow and deliberate, like she’s the center of his universe. She is, of course, but he’s not usually so blatant about it. He takes her free hand in his, tangling their fingers together. His other hand sets at her side before slipping to the small of her back, pulling her a bit closer and starting to move in time to the music. He’s the one who begins singing.
“Kiss me too fiercely
Hold me too tight
I need help believing
You're with me tonight
My wildest dreamings
Could not foresee
Lying beside you
With you here with me
And just for this moment
As long as you're here
Alive and existing
There’s no reason to fear
And if it turns out
It's over too fast
I'll make every last moment last
As long as you're here”
George is actually smiling, and she may still have her sunglasses on, but there’s an openness to her face that even Shaun rarely gets to see. She spins out, then twirls back in, this time pressing her back to Shaun so that he can wrap his arms around her. She tilts her head softly and raises a hand to his face, as she starts to sing her reply.
“Might be a zombie,
Might be a clone.
Either way I am sorry
I’ve left you alone.
I know you need me
Like I need you.
Least now we’re together
Til this stuff is through.”
Shaun holds her close, lost in the song. He lifts a hand to settle over the one of hers at his face, clasping it softly before twirling her out and tugging her back to face him once more. It’s his turn to set a hand against her cheek, thumb tracing her cheekbone, all the tenderness that he’s never dared show in public.
The next words are sung in both their voices.
“Every moment,
As long as we’re here,
We’ll cling to each other
And use our love to steer.”
George looks away for a moment, then tugs her sunglasses off to look up at him with her deep black eyes. For once, perhaps through the magic of song, she hardly feels the pain. She continues the song:
“The world’s always judged us
For being a pair….”
There’s a softness on Shaun’s face that very rarely sees the light of day as he looks at Georgia. He leans closer, resting his forehead against hers -- half to block some measure of light, but mostly because oh he wants to be close. He joins back in singing with George:
“And though I may know
I don't care
Just for this moment
As long as we’re here
Come tell me your stories,
And keep out lies and fear.
Our futures are waiting
For us to fight through,
But now I'll be here
Holding you.
As long as we’re here….”
The music fades out. It’s so nice being held like this, Georgia almost lets herself stay in the moment and under the spell. But then her stupid, stupid eyes start to sting and she has to close her eyes and draw back enough that she can shove her sunglasses back on. Her movements are sharp and precise, back to her usual self.
“Ugh. ‘Use our love to steer.’ Really?”

This is that moment. Pikachu is holding a soft serve ice cream cone, having observed this entire scene, and is somehow oblivious to the fact that said ice cream is now melting in favor of just gawking at the Masons.
"...Wow."

"Shut it, Harry."

Shaun meanwhile, is somewhere between mortified (though his reservoir of shame is so shallow and plagued by a two decade plus drought, so the level of mortification of very, very low) and struck by how absurd all of this is. The latter wins out and Shaun barks out a laugh before he catches himself.
"Clearly you're speechless at the whole production. I get it."

But, more pressing matters. He turns to George abruptly. "Wait. Did you seriously just call me Harry? When did you figure that out?"
no subject
This is a much better conversation than talking about her relationship with Shaun.

That's Shaun's first contribution to this discussion, picturing the small yellow thing as a human dude. But sure. Weirder things have apparently happened.
"I feel like you owe us a song and dance about this with the way today is going. Hit it, Harry."
It's easier to be obnoxious and deflect than get into the whole him and George thing; Shaun agrees fully on that point.

She's going to ignore that second question because it's too stupid to contemplate.
no subject
He's playing distraction. It's a familiar pattern.

"No, but seriously, I had no idea you two were an item. Congratulations on blowing my mind. I'm secretly a human detective named Harry who is, incidentally, simultaneously my old partner, and you two are singing love songs. Truly, it's a day to throw people off."

“It’s... complicated. Leave it at we’re partners.”
