October catch-all
WHO: Quentin Beck/Mysterio and open to all! With starters for Harley Quinn, David Alleyne & Loki.
WHERE: Various locations
WHEN: Over the month of October
WHAT: Various
WARNINGS: Probably grandstanding and egotistical arrogance. Possibly manipulation, violence, emotional abuse.
Open to all!
A. Superhero sighting
Around the Porter cities, Mysterio could be seen in full flight, soaring effortlessly through the air, burgundy cloak flapping in the wind and leaving behind a trail of thick green smoke. His highly recognisable fishbowl helmet obscured his face but he could see perfectly well as he looked over the cities, watching out for crime. Yes, he was still playing the part of the hero - part time. Despite complaining to others that he didn't have time for the little heroic deeds he claimed were below him, he had decided that maybe there was some value after all on a show of public heroics, saving random people from petty crime. Maybe that's you!
Or maybe you can also fly or you're on the ground, curious about the flashy costumed hero above. Mysterio may at times alight and land nearby and greet onlookers with a wave of a gloved hand.
B. Motivational speaking
Beck was also still doing his job as Motivational Speaker, although he had cut down on how many times he'd meet up at a group talk, now making it twice a week. Come and hear Mysterio talk about the importance of believing in yourself or how there is a hero within everybody and how you can bring them out. He spoke about confidence and finding your path to greatness. At times it was over the top in earnest conviction, as if he was overcompensating any insecurities with pure showmanship.
At the very least it was entertaining, whether you enjoyed it or just came to mock him.
C. Random!
Want to run into Mysterio? Open to just finding him wandering any city, in costume or in regular clothing. Throw your own starter below. Any and all CR welcome!
For Harley - (Beck's apartment in De Chima)
Beck has extended an invitation to see his tech in action to a few people but none were perhaps as much of a wild card as Harley Quinn. The girl had talked of chaos and mayhem and while Mysterio generally preferred to keep his own world meticulously controlled and in an order of his own making, he was intrigued by what she may have to offer. In particular in terms of how his tech would react to her mind. What strange dreams would be revealed and what tweaks could he make to the programming to adapt it into future illusions. As much as he was showing off, he was also gathering data. Everyone his tech came in contact with, making a database of brain patterns and thoughts and dreams - and nightmares - all in data form that he could manipulate and integrate into a more complex program. Ideally, to help people. The more he knew, the better, he thought. But good intentions do not always make the best results and especially in his case, things could quickly escalate and fall apart.
He's given Harley his address. When she would arrive was a bit up in the air - as it was with a number of his 'guests' but he was always prepared for an arrival. His tech always set up to be on at a moment's notice for visitors both welcome and unwelcome - and he was often working on it. And so he was in his apartment, making adjustments when she arrived.
For David
David had agreed to meet with Beck again in October for a second 'session' of a sort of therapy. The first had already garnered some interesting results - although not perhaps what David had intentioned. Beck had rediscovered his childhood love of practical effects and was now incorporating that into his tech and his act - for better or worse in the future. He'd also invited Peter Parker to go bowling, despite everyone wanting them to stay apart. But it had all gone relatively well and Beck felt more comfortable at least knowing he could contact Peter. It was hard to shake that connection and unhealthy attachment he'd formed there; that one link to a mutual timeline and world. That he and Peter went back and forth between a relatively friendly conversation to antagonism and back again was something that just felt like the natural way of things at this point and he didn't want to change it. He no longer wanted to kill Peter - there was no point in that here due to changed circumstances - but he was still a danger to the teenager's mind. Mysterio had plans to teach more lessons, which in his own mind were a positive thing, even if along the way they were bound to hurt...
But nothing was a concrete plan as yet. Nothing much for David to pick up on - if he should use his power of touch. Beck's more solid plans were of continuing to further his technology and develop more of a bond between the practical and the visual programming. In simplest terms, how CGI could enhance special effects in film. But Beck wanted to bring that into reality.
He contacted David for their next meeting, still a little unsure where they stood. It wasn't exactly a friendly arrangement. He supposed it was more business, yet he wasn't paying anything, except with his time - which was precious to him in regard to the work David was discouraging. Or at least telling Beck to take a break from it. He had for a little while but of course most of his days and even into the nights were consumed with perfecting what he was working on. He really needed more sleep, and probably better meals. He ate as he went. When Beck appeared for their session, at an appointed place, Beck already looked tired, as if he hadn't slept well - yet he was buoyant and seemed to be in good spirits, greeting David with a cheerful smile.
For Loki - (Beck's apartment in De Chima)
Loki had also received an invitation by Beck to show off his tech, but unlike with Harley, Beck knew of Loki. At least in the sense that the God of Mischief had been a major headline years ago, causing widespread destruction. But Loki's reputation was interesting to Mysterio, who also had done some surface research on what the being could be capable of. Illusions were mentioned and of course that was a common ground that interested Beck. But these were a different sort. Not manufactured by tech but by some sort of magic instead. Would he be able to see through Loki's illusion magic? Would Loki be able to see through Beck's technology? Part of him wanted to impress. Part if him wanted to show he was greater and that his technology could beat a god's magic. He was that arrogant to think that he could.
So it was another interesting test, he thought, hoping that Loki would eventually accept his invitation. As with Harley, he was at home ever working on his tech to make it even better and more versatile, when Loki finally showed up.

So when he does appear out of seemingly nowhere, he is standing next to Beck, looking over the man's shoulder as he works with an expression that has nothing to say aside from vague curiosity.
"So you are playing with toys." Loki observes idly.
no subject
He looks around, glaring. Loki. An unexpected appearance if not an unexpected visitor. Still, the rude intrusion annoys him and he isn't immediately composed or civil about it.
"I don't appreciate people breaking into my home...," he seethes through gritted teeth. "Don't you know how to knock?"
no subject
At least he shows no inclination to pick up or mess with any of Becks' pieces of electronics.

Thankfully, he doesn't have far to go, as he sees the hero land and greet onlookers. Finn rather stands out, since he's the only person around with grey skin.
Finn gently makes his way to the front of the crowd. "Nice outfit." Is he being snarky or was it a real compliment? Sometimes it's hard to tell with Finn.

"You look like you need a nap."
And yet David's still smiling.
no subject
He steps back to allow David in, but asks, "So did you want to come in or were you wanting to go somewhere more public again?"
no subject
"You promised to show me your work. We'll look at that first. And something tells me you didn't buy that yoga mat. So for this week you're off the hook. But this week only."
He's still smiling widely. Too happy to be bothered by all of this.

Beck/Harley
It was likely to end up being option one or two, but no one could say that Harley wasn’t a go-getter. If a gal didn’t check into someone like this, the next thing she’d hear was that Mr. or Ms. Anonymous was actually super useful and now an ally of Batsy.
No. No way. Harley was determined not to let that happen.
Besides, she’d never hear the end of it.
Her questions about what to wear had been mostly bullshit too. After all, Harley’s wardrobe didn’t offer a ton of variety. It was mainly red and black, and largely inappropriate for anything that didn’t include hanging out on a street corner. So she was pretty limited in that respect, unless she was going to arrive in full-out harlequin attire. And unless she was planning on taking up the business casual look, which she wasn’t.
Harley hadn’t bothered trying to contact them first to make sure it was a good time to just drop by either. The way she figured it, it was a pretty open invitation. And, besides, even if it hadn’t been, she would have still showed up unannounced.
Hell, if she was going to take an address from a stranger on the internet and actually go to it she was going to lean into the chaos and enjoy the ride. Tongue out, hair whipping in the breeze as she stuck her head out the window. That sort of thing.
So with mini-purse slung over her shoulder (and it might have had more than a few choice weapons stashed away in it) and hyenas in tow (like she’d go without Bud and Lou), Harley leans on the apartment’s doorbell for a few seconds longer than strictly necessary.
Worst case scenario: they’re not home and she can break in and try to figure out their identity.
no subject
And he had also contacted Bruce Wayne in regards to said technology so for now it seemed he was playing both sides, even if he had no idea what all their connections were. He was just throwing offers out there and saw what stuck and what he could gain from it all.
At least Harley started off more polite than Loki, by ringing the doorbell.
Beck answered quickly, giving her a look up and down before smiling and stepping aside so she could enter.
"Harley, isn't it? I'm Quentin Beck," and he holds out a hand before noticing her companions. "Uh. No pets, please..."
He didn't want anything running rampant and damaging his equipment.
As to his own attire, today Beck was dressed casually in a dark green long-sleeved top and tan trousers. He didn't look very threatening at all.
no subject
What she hadn’t expected was the dude who’d performed a showy song on the network.
Harley’s rarely speechless, and now is no different, but it does take a second longer than usual for this all to click together. “No shit. Broadway!” Because what else would she end up calling him? If he’d introduced himself as Mysterio, she might have used that. But she’s not going with either Quentin or Beck. So now he’s stuck with a new nickname.
Truly, what a delightful turn of events. He could still be dangerous (though that’s what the machete in her purse is for). He could still be a total creepy (also what the machete is for). But Harley can’t say that all the crypticness isn’t intriguing.
Though she does pause when he says no pets. “Bud and Lou? They’re not pets. They’re associates.”

A!!
"Hey, see? Fishbowl thing. Now you're really looking like Mysterio."
no subject
Mysterio hovers in mid-air - no strings or wires or even rocket boots. A plume of smoke swirls at his feet. He keeps the helmet on over his face but he can be heard very clearly through it, only just slightly distorted.
no subject
He sounds almost a bit judgemental - the tone of voice and expression when he says 'hero' is like how one would say 'narc'.

Shadow!Beck [Forward-dated to the 20th] Open to other encounters to the 26th.
This shadow Quentin Beck is all that Beck wants to remain hidden within - even as he's revealed a little of his past to Peter Parker and David Alleyne, he doesn't want the general public to know about what an insecure, lonely person he was inside - and of how that was his entire childhood until he found his way ahead by masking that with forced confidence and overcompensating with ego and falsehoods. But that little boy was still in there, revealed at first to Beck himself - who'd been shocked and horrified enough to immediately chase the kid out. Beck would come for him later, realising he didn't want his shadow wandering the streets, talking to people - but for now the child was out here, upset at being rejected by... himself.
The 23rd
A child crying. David can't leave that alone. So he approaches the lonely boy. Quentin can wait another minute, right? In fact, David just shoots a really quick message off to the man.]
Beck, going to be a few minutes. Sorry.
[Then he goes and knees by the boy, one hand behind his back at the hilt of the belt-knife he'd worn. Not getting stabbed again, thanks.]
Quentin? Are you Quentin Beck?
no subject
.... Yes...
[He seems uncertain, as if simply being addressed was frightening to him. How does this person know his name? Is he really being spoken to?]

And then, abruptly, he's standing in front of a kid. A lost kid, apparently. Peter has no idea who he is, but of course he's going to help. He approaches quickly, reaching a hand down to him. "Hey," he says softly. "Don't worry. I'll help you get home."
Wherever that is.
