WHO: Loki, Obi-Wan Kenobi
WHERE: some bar in Nonah
WHEN: September 18th
WHAT: An Asgardian walks into a bar - And finds himself a drinking buddy.
WARNINGS: There will be alcohol involved.

Almost a week has passed since his arrival in this world and a lot of the time between that, the swear-in and today has been used by Loki to gain some familiarity with Nonah, at the very least. Eventually he will spread out to the other cities and once he has more of an idea of each of them he will decide which one to find a more acceptable place to stay in. Until then, the place he has been assigned to will have to suffice.

Nonah, at the very least, has proven to be friendly enough. Just wandering about is perfectly possible as long as he is willing to stop every once in a while for a question, picture or even autograph. And why shouldn't he indulge these mortals while he explores?

Loki decides to finish his exploration by entering a bar he has just freshly discovered. He pays little mind to the patrons already present and minding their drinks and finds himself a place right next to a human male seated at the bar.

"Just give me something strong." The Asgardian informed the bartender and then added more to himself "Preferably something not looking like the Bifrost this time."

There’s a pause as Obi-Wan searches for what to say.

“I don’t know what that means,” he admits. “But I can take a guess.”

From Loki’s grim tone he can only assume it’s some sort of catastrophy. Just using a word that he’s never heard of before. Translators can’t give him definitions.

“Whatever my memories have revealed to you, I’m sorry it wasn’t better news.”

Obi-Wan certainly knows disasters of epic proportions after all. Though he’s a bit baffled on what could possibly be wrong from his memory of a jolly giant of a man who likes video games and axes.

Turning back to his own drink, Obi-Wan just held the glass between his hands as he pondered silently for a few moments.

"I see," he says at last.

The Jedi definitely feels for the Asgardian. This can't possibly be easy to process. He's known that feeling here as well, when he learned that Luke's attempt to revive the Jedi Order had failed.

"Losing your home is one of the most devastating things you can know."

He knew all about that as well.

"I'm sorry."

The harsh tone doesn't faze the the Jedi. He knows and understands grief, and everyone has different ways of dealing with it. This is obviously Loki's way, and it's not the worst tongue lashing he's gotten from a man in pain.

He watches though as the Asgardian poured the wine and passed him a glass. A melancholy smile coming to his face as he raised it.

"To Asgard," he declared in turn. He may not know the place or the people, but for tonight, he will certainly participate in the celebration of those gone. Though he tries not to look too surprised when Loki's outfit suddenly changes and become more... flamboyant.

Wow. Obi-Wan only downs about half of his. He's not one for excessive drinking after all. But he has the feeling he might leave this place a bit inebriated tonight. Despite being resistant to the effects of alcohol, it's clear that this Asgardian could likely drink him under the table. He had the same feeling about Thor.

"So Asgard has kept the peace between the other realms?"

That's the assumption he makes from that statement. If that's true, he can relate a bit, as the Jedi held a similar place in their galaxy.

"That's unfortunate. War is a terrible thing."

So many innocent people ended up being harmed because others couldn't get along. It was never a good thing. He had seen such things first hand.

Loki's next question though didn't much surprise him. Considering his memories of Thor involved the weapon, it made sense.

"It's called a lightsaber. The weapon of a Jedi."

Or a Sith, but he's not going to get into that.

"It is plasma, which is emitted from the hilt and powered by a crystal. It is certainly wise to be cautious of it."

He didn't know how an axe forged by a star would fare against his weapon, but he figured it might be best not to find out. If Thor's weapon is that way, he can only assume Loki's is as well.

There was the hint of a smile as he then asked of the Jedi.

"Of a sort. A Jedi only raises their weapon if there is no other alternative. We were the defenders of peace and justice in our galaxy."

Obi-Wan chuckles a bit ruefully as he takes another drink of his wine.

"No, it is not. Especially since there were only about ten thousand of us. We were spread rather thin."

Coming to meet people who were not dissimilar to his own is certainly a welcome change. Most tended to balk at the idea of the Jedi and what they stood for, simply because it was different from their way of life.

"Certainly, I would be happy to. I hope you might share how your magic works as well. I'm quite curious."
hadthehighground: (It's like this...)

Obi-Wan smiles as well and raises his glass again in reciprocation before again taking another swallow of the wine. Which is... admittedly pretty good. This is the first time he's really had earth wine.

"You would be surprised what one Jedi can accomplish," he said with a hint of pride in his voice.

"More often than not we are mediators, but in times of conflict, some have said one Jedi is worth a thousand battle droids."

Obi-Wan nods again as he takes yet another drink. He's liking this stuff perhaps a bit too much. He finishes his glass upon that though and pushes it aside. Talking about the Jedi though... it's bittersweet.

"For the Separatists it was. My galaxy enjoyed peace for a thousand years until the Clone Wars. We Jedi fought for our Republic and the Separatists used droids as their soldiers."
hadthehighground: (weary)

[personal profile] hadthehighground 2019-09-24 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
“We were not alone. The Jedi were generals over the Grand Army of the Republic. Most of which consisted of cloned soldiers.”

There’s a grim tone to his voice and his expression. As if there is a regret weighing on his shoulders. So he took the refilled glass and downed some more of the wine. The alcohol effectively loosening his tongue.

“It felt right at the time, but it was a conflict we never should have been involved in. In the end, we were betrayed. My people slaughtered by the very troops they commanded and the Republic we defended.”
hadthehighground: (soft spoken)

[personal profile] hadthehighground 2019-09-26 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Obi-Wan nodded solemnly, still tending to that drink of his. The question that Loki asks next is a heavy and complicated one.

"Our Republic was turned into an Empire. Our Chancellor became its Emperor, who will rule by instilling fear. From what I hear, there will be a rebellion which will eventually overthrow it. Though without the Jedi, I fear that there will never be balance and the cycle will continue with more wars."
hadthehighground: (of course)

[personal profile] hadthehighground 2019-09-27 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"I agree," Obi-Wan said without hesitation and called the bartender over.

"This one is on me," he tells his newly found drinking buddy when a second bottle of wine is placed before them.
