Huzzah and raise a glass of mead! This month's swear-in ceremony takes place outside the city of De Chima, in a woodsy area where the De Chima Renaissance Faire is being held! ImPorts are invited to attend a special preview day before the gates open for regular faire weekends, welcoming only imPorts, actors, and VIP ticket buyers from the native population.



Attendees will be greeted by costumed actors lining the path into the grounds of the faire, including those portraying Queen Elizabeth and her court, Robin Hood and his merry men, and even some who seem to be dressed in renfaire-ized versions of popular imPorts' costumes.

Before they can reach the festivities proper, imPorts will be herded into the costume rental stall and be strongly, strongly, strongly encouraged to dress in period garb, available for free, one day only! Ladies and gents alike are invited to lace up a bodice, put on some knight's armor or don some colorful peasant clothing. Or pirate clothing or elf ears. It's the spirit of Faire that's fun, not the historical accuracy.



Feeling hungry? Why not visit one of several pubs on the grounds, where lots of grub and drinks are available? Not only does the faire offer fried Oreos, fried pickles, fried butter and fried pretty much anything, a turkey leg-eating contest will pit you against up to three other imPorts in a head-to-head battle of stomach, with the winner getting free drink tickets! Speaking of drinks, a pub crawl is making a continuous loop around the faire. Bawdy jokes, silly songs and lots of mead quaffing are encouraged!

The faire also features a variety of entertaining shows and demonstrations, including fire-eating, choreographed swordplay, magicians and acrobats! There's an archery copitition for those looking to win a golden arrow from Maid Marian, and, of course, there is the Royal Joust occuring every 3 hours. Between the daring competitions on horseback, imPorts are invited to test out their own jousting skill—although their steeds are, err, a little smaller.



Those that leave after the first jousting competition (around noon) will have just enjoyed a nice day at the faire. Those that stay longer though will notice people becoming a little more dedicated to their roles than previously. While in the morning everyone spoke in exaggerated accents and call everyone 'mi'lady' and 'mi'lord' like good community actors, by after noon they start being genuinely spooked by anyone dressed in modern garb, and abandon their decorated food booths filled with oil fryers and ovens and begin setting up genuine fire pits to roast goose and pig over.

And it's not just the actors impacted.

Thanks to a faerie wish, those imPorts that remain at the ren faire after noon will feel compelled to take on the role of their costume. Dressed as a blacksmith? Go find your anvil and hammer. A knight? Get ready for that afternoon joust, it's about to get real. Pirates will maraud and...well. You get the idea. People will play their part.

Anyone that remained in their normal clothes will not be impacted, but won't be able to shake anyone out of their apparent trance without physically removing them from the faire. Note, this task of removing people will be impeded by faeries that want to enjoy the fun of watching everyone run around playing their roles. Would-be rescuers may find their clothing suddenly changed into costume garb so they fall under the spell as well, or find themselves unable to leave a suddenly appeared faerie circle, forced to just sit and watch- or beg for rescue themselves (as if anyone would be foolish enough to mess with a faerie circle!).

The spell will break at midnight, releasing everyone instantly back into their normal state of mind. Hopefully no one much worse for wear.

It's All Fun And Games

Wear a costume, they offer. No, David says. Wear a costume, they suggest. No, David repeats. Wear a costume, they nearly demand. Wow, these are serious people for the up-sell, and David in the end only manages to bluff his way out by sheer luck, a brush of skin to skin contact, and a wealth of knowledge of a woman in the costume tent allowing him to play at telepathic and willing to put a really strong and love-life destroying compulsion on her if she doesn't let him go. Thus it is that David Alleyne wins himself free of the costumes tent with nothing but his jeans, a long sleeve shirt, a pair of computer-glasses, and his new 'never leave home without them' black leather gloves. Fun.

He does, though, have a lot of fun, dressed even as he is he tries to stay in the spirit of things, addressing people with the proper terms, bowing to ladies, making grandiose brags whenever near street performers that he can juggle just as well as they can which he tends to then prove correct after slipping his gloves off and 'accidentally brushing his hand against that of a performer. And, of course, immediately acquiring several minutes of their skill and coordination to show off with. What? If you've got it, sometimes you flaunt it.

While he may not take place in many competitions, he does poke around stalls in search of small baubles and delights that he could gift to his friends, and at one point, David absolutely ends up by the archery competition. Of course he won't shoot himself, despite having formal lessons from a Hawkeye, without being egged on. Which might be a task worth setting oneself to, just to see if he'll make a fool of himself.


Until Somebody Loses An Eye

The worst part about all of this? The honor rigidity among nobles in the times suited to fairs like this. How easily slights could be given, and how hard to rectify them it was if honor was impinged upon. Oh, and there were of course issues with sanitation. And small injuries could be horrid if left untreated. And while people might be playing at the roles, that doesn't necessarily mean they're suited to them.

As it all starts to go wrong, David finds himself glad that he'd avoided the pressure to change into a period piece (though that armor had looked tempting). Instead he'd gone to the nearest first-aid tent, grabbed a pair of kits, and set out. Sure, he might be seen as a witch or something similar, but David was on a mission, to help keep people as intact as they could be in this sort of situation.

No boo-boo too small, no ugly gash needing stitches to big, David's a trained medical professional, and he's dispensing his trade, at least trying to mimick the language of the people, even though he knows his clothes are out of place.


And Maybe Gets Trapped Too

Apparently he's a spoil sport. That's the only conclusion David can come to as he sits in what is clearly mean to be time-out. All he'd been doing is helping people. But apparently whatever was leading to this from his understanding another strange occurrence at the swearing in had decided that calm, collected, rational, and modern people weren't fun. He'd just been walking along, continuing his hurried pace to make sure people weren't getting hurt over this clearly magical mess, and bam, he'd run straight into a barrier. Which, upon looking down, he found came from a ring of mushrooms that had come into existence literally around him.

How did he know it was around him? Because there was no way, given the way the day was going, he would have made the mistake of stepping into one.

Still, that doesn't mean he doesn't try to get help getting out. Whenever someone that isn't looking a bit in character walks past, he raises his voice.

"Consider lending a guy a bit of help?"

Guess who just happens to be nearby when David gets trapped within the barrier and is within hearing distance when he asks for help. Quentin Beck came in with his own costume and, with a little persuasion, they'd agreed that it was knightly enough that it'd do for the faire. Even if there were many glowing lights that were not era-appropriate on his outfit.

So he isn't affected but he's been observing more than helping so far.

"Got yourself into a spot of trouble, did you now?"

{BEFORE NOON}

[Costume Tent]
Oh man, a Ren Faire was on his bucket list. When he heard what it was going to be he h ad to go. Just HAD to. And thankfully he ran into a friend there, grabbing Kirk and dragging him to a Tent. He wasn't going to be the only one dressing up after all. He even text his entire family to say a few words about this.

In the tent he stood there, put together in a PIRATE costume of all things. Eye patch and everything! "An Asian Pirate. I mean, I suppose I could have gone a bit more Asian but this looks good." He said to literally no one but himself, turning to look in the mirror at his back side before hauling the coat on.

"What do you think?" He said to the person looking over costumes or coming out of a changing room. Who ever it might be, he was curious to how he looked at the moment. Did he even make a good pirate at all? Maybe he should have gone with a Knight after all.


[Friends, Food, & Fun]
He had lost his friend and brother at some point, just wandering around the faire with a happy attitude. Being a pirate was a lot better than a Knight, he decided. Because he could say 'Arr' and he could drink mead like a pirate and just have fun. He had bought a pewter tankard for mead and it looked great with his costume. So he walked about from stand to stand, sipping his drink and looking things over.

At a book stand he looked over the hard bound old style books that had been collected. There were a few bought and tucked inside a leather satchels he had at his side. Which was something else he had bought. Hand crafted leather, after all. It looked great. He was reading over titles of books as if looking for one to jump out at him.

As he got a refill on his drink he fell into a group of people dancing and though Ben wasn't that great at dancing, he did enjoy it. The music was good and old fashioned, the actors were encouraging, pulling people together and locking arms with each other to push them out to dance.

Ben was nudged out with someone else, and he didn't care if they were male or female, so long as they wanted to dance with him. "Hi!" he laughed, offering a hand properly.

As for food, he HAD to try the fried pickles this time around. And a fricking turkey leg. You can't get more piraty than a turkey leg. Go ahead, ask him how it tastes. It tastes BETTER than turkey. It's amazing!

{AFTER NOON}

[The Pirate & The Alchemist: Closed to Kirk]
He had lost Kirk at some point in all the merriment of the Faire. He had been keeping an eye out for him, but after the Joust, he had just completely forgot about the man all together. Forgot about his siblings. Forgot that he was in a costume. No, instead he had a swagger to him now, and he had his pint half full of mead.

At some point he saw something that got his interest thought. A man with bottles on his belt and attire. Bottles of things. Bottles like that and a book meant one thing. Alchemist. Right? Or a pesky monk, but even monks had a place in his heart. Wine after all. But no, he wandered up to the other, his pewter mug in hand, finger pointed off the handle of it at the man. At Kirk.

"You. You there! Yes, you." He said with a slur, coming a bit too close for comfort, leaning in, a hand on the short sword at his hip. "You wouldn't happen to be one of those, you know..." his fingers wiggled as he tried to find the word. "...those fellows who make with the gold, are you? An alchemisty sort of gent?"


[Drunken Pirate Shenanigans]
He's absolutely smashed and tomorrow he is going to have the WORST headache, but for now he is merry, dancing and loud. Like before he's dancing with others, but this time he's the one reaching out to hook his arm into someones arm and pull them out to high kick and jump, dance and spin. Laughing the whole way. If you fight it, he'll boo at you and try to get someone else to dance with him. "Come on, love, let's enjoy tha night!"

There is a high chance that, if you are a lady and have a bosom on display, he might end up trying to give you a hug and rest his head in that rack. Don't mind him, he's just going to nest in it a moment before you shove him off or slap him or whatever happens. Because, well, because he's careless and it seemed like a good idea at the time!

Ever the book nerd, he's returned to that book stand but this time his fingers graze over the books in a way that is no good. He files through some, looking around and... when he thinks no one is looking, he nabs a book, taking it from the pile smoothly, turning away and making a long step away from the book tent. then he started another long step, and another, and suddenly he's running. Or did you catch him before he took off running? Whoops.


[Picking Fights]
"YOU!" He bellows, a short sword held up, pointed at a someone. Swirled around to point it at a person, his swagger and stance is very drunk. His pewter pint in one hand, spilling. "Ya made me spill my mead!" He wiggled the sword at the person. "What say you?" he demanded.

Or maybe he's insulted YOU, or hit upon your lady OR man. He's not going to let anyone go with out a good flirtatious smile after all. Did he flirt with your partner? Has he besmirched thy name? Deal with it!

Costume Tent

Honestly? She's feeling a bit lost and overwhelmed. There's a lot going on, there's a lot of people, and Rikki has a lot of questions but no idea to whom she ought to be directing them, really. Maybe it's just that she's on edge because she's worried about what happens when she's not home to open the cafe this morning? What happens to her dad when she doesn't have a paycheck to help with the bills? What happens when he realizes it's been a lot longer than normal for her not to come home?

The swear-in ceremony seems like a way to distract herself, so against her instincts, she goes. Admittedly, Rikki's glad to see that no one seems to care that she's there. No one asks for a selfie or an autograph; she'd been warned that might be an issue, but so far, she hasn't encountered anyone acting like a fan. That's just as well; she'd have no idea what to do with it. For now, she's largely wandering and just taking in the sights.

While she has absolutely no interest in actually donning one of the costumes, she still finds herself gravitating toward them to at least have a look. Some of them are incredibly detailed. Even Rikki can appreciate the craftsmanship there.

The question she hears goes unanswered for long enough that Rikki suddenly looks up and wonders if he's talking to her. When she turns to look, she just blinks. "I think you look like a pirate, mate," she says with a little shrug and a sheepish sort of smile. Something tells her that he probably hadn't meant to ask her so much as maybe he'd thought she was someone he'd known until she turned around. When he doesn't immediately start babbling apologies for the mistaken identity, Rikki realizes that maybe he was just asking because she's the only person standing here just now who isn't working the tent.

So, she rolls with it. "No, it's good. It looks authentic." It looks a lot more authentic than Cleo and her dad's costumes at the marine park, anyway, that's for sure. "Best pirate ever," she adds for good measure, a little grin tugging up the corners of her mouth.

Quentin Beck (Mysterio) | OTA

Keeping up appearances, Quentin Beck had come to Register and be considered an official hero. He liked the idea of all the perks and for now thought it the best way to go about furthering his heroic agenda, putting Mysterio on the map as a prime leading player.

The festivities weren't as sombre as he had been expecting but he soon settled in to the atmosphere, even drinking some of the mead and laughing with others who were joining in. He didn't push it enough to be drunk, however, wanting to keep a clear enough head to remain alert to trouble. On either side of the spectrum.

Earlier, he had persuaded the rental stall attendants that his costume fit well enough to be some sort of knight, even with its gaudy light-up displays. He was charming enough to get away with it and they let him go on his way without too much delay. And so he was dressed as 'normal', for him, and was unaffected by the evening, when everything went to the faeries. He strolled around, mostly observing more than helping. It was a sort of amusing show, he thought, and he was almost enjoying himself and glad he hadn't decided to go home earlier.

Somewhere in the middle of the day, Rikki started to notice that people were acting a little...off. Of course, she didn't really know anyone, being as new as she was, but it seemed like some of these folks were getting a little too into their chosen Renaissance Faire characters and, rather than making any waves when she's still so new, she'd decided to just grab herself something to eat and...well. Watch.

It didn't really occur to her that it might be unwitting changes in their behavior. As far as Rikki knew, these people were just having a little too much mead and, subsequently, a little too much fun. Most of it was sort of hilarious, if she was honest. It was just a little bit later in the evening when she started to realize that some of the "normal"-clothed people were acting like something was wrong. So when she noticed that there was another person in relatively normal looking clothes who was neither acting like a lunatic nor seeming to be terribly concerned by the behavior of the others, Rikki made her way over.

"D'you have any idea what's going on?" she asked. "I sort of thought they were putting on a show, but now I'm starting to wonder, because other people are acting weird over the fact that they're acting weird, yeah? Is it just me that's confused?" she asked him, lifting her eyebrows in question before looking back toward the crowd and noticing two men dressed as knights swinging swords at one another. She looked back at the normally dressed man with widened eyes that silently communicated a very clear, what the hell?

MORNING

[one: corporate espionage renfaire-style]

[Some of the organizers of the Medieval Festival, mostly based in Nonah, apparently have a bone to pick with the organizers of the De Chima version. Molly doesn't know or care just what kind of bone it is, but he does know this: they're paying him a whole lot to go check out the competition. And as it turns out, the competition has really good fried ice cream.

They really should try selling fried ice cream. Molly's bought quite a few along with an iced tea and is now wandering around the faire nibbling on them, dressed in his usual eyesore of a coat, mismatched trousers, and half-open shirt. He stops to watch a pirate and a knight stage a fight with each other, and very soon gets caught up in the crowd around the match, jostled and pushed as everyone tries to get a good position. Just one wrong move and—]

—ah, shit.

[There goes his iced tea, right onto his shirt. And the half-eaten ice cream, too—sailed right out of its cup and onto his coat. He turns to look at the person who bumped into him and makes a face.]

I think it's about time we both got out of here, yeah?

[two: costume rental]

[While Molly mourns his coat and shirt (for the two hours or so it'll take to get them cleaned at the nearest laundromat), he's decided to look on the bright side: at least now he gets the chance to try out some of the costumes! In fact, he's already found an exceedingly lovely outfit, a beret with a feather that he's somehow crammed between his horns, and a lute that he doesn't know how to play. It's a great aesthetic, though, and he's practically preening as he walks out.

The cape? It's not just green anymore. Thanks to Molly's ability, it's a dazzlingly sequined and chaotically patterned piece of fabric that drapes over his arm, conveniently hiding one of the scimitars dangling at his hip. The shirt he's unbuttoned till it's half-open. Someone ought to show some cleavage around here, and Molly is willing to make that sacrifice.

Then he catches sight of another imPort, looking at costumes, and walks on over, tail swaying behind him as he leans over their shoulder.]

What're you going for? I could probably help.

[Surprisingly, he's not lying. This Ren Faire is actually pretty close to home in its aesthetic, and hey, he might as well.]

AFTERNOON

[three: all the world's a stage]

[Did you want some fried ice cream? Too bad, because the guy selling it abandoned his stall at the stroke of noon and wandered off to make a fire pit instead. It's not clear where that fire pit is, though, because the vendor didn't want to take an even closer look at the oil fryers, ovens, and more modern conveniences that clashed with his now-medieval view of the world. If you listen close, though, you might hear music, off in the distance. And if you follow, you'll find it: a fire pit, with a goose on a spit being slowly roasted as a small crowd of not-actors gather around someone playing a lute.

The purple skin and the horns are a dead giveaway as to who this bard is, but there's something—off about Molly right now. Probably because he's singing instead of fanning out his tarot cards, or probably because his usual coat is nowhere in sight.]

Way-hay, and up she rises, way-hay, and up she rises—

[He cuts himself off on sighting someone coming up the path, and pushes himself up to stand, dusting himself off with a hum. The crowd parts for him, and he ignores the disappointed grumbling as he walks over to the newcomer and sketches a small bow.]

Hail and well met! You hungry? I have it on good authority that the goose over there is just about done, and we've still got some mead left over. [A beat.] If nobody else in this lot's taken a crack at it, anyway. [A small smile.] Hopefully they haven't, you seem like someone very much in need of a good strong drink.

[Oh hey, it's fortune telling guy! Jacob gives him a smile as he considers a row of breeches in front of him.]

Hey. I want to find something practical. Don't want to be tangled up in something fancy if trouble breaks out and I need to take action.

[Every time Jacob shows up to a Swear-In in anything less than his full armour and gear, he feels like he's tempting fate.]

Because it seems like the best option for her personally, Rikki decided to Register. They said she didn't have to actually join the military and fight with them, so she figures it's a no-brainer. Why not Register if she can get the government benefits without having to do much other than exist and not be an awful person. She can handle that.

So, she's made her way to the swear-in ceremony and it's all...well. A bit much. This sort of thing feels like the sort of thing Cleo's dad would throw together for Cleo's age-inappropriate birthday party. This sort of thing isn't really Rikki's thing, but it's fine. She can still take the opportunity to meet new people, maybe make a friend or two, or find someone who can answer the slew of questions she's got about this place.

Throughout the day, while she's not really willing to join in quite as much as dressing up would suggest she is, Rikki will still be enjoying all the fried food; how can she not? She's definitely going to be watching the joust, because it seems like it'll be a laugh, if nothing else. If she can get her hands on it, she might even try her first alcoholic beverage since there seems to be no shortage of mead.

Since she's not dressed up, she's unaffected by what's going on with the costumes and she'll definitely be caught somewhere between super amused and completely uncomfortable with the plight of her fellow imPorts.

Peter's here at the joust himself, leaning idly over whatever railing they have set up to separate the jousters from the spectators. Also not dressed up? Look, he's normally here for that sort of thing, but right now he kinda wants to be normal. So the only concession he's made to the day is an old-fashioned scarf around his neck that he might turn into a rogue-y ninja mask if he really feels like it later.

"I can't believe people used to do this for fun," he says, gesturing at the horses and lances and all that. "Looks pretty dangerous."

Says a kid who casually throws himself off buildings. But. Details.

[A Ren Faire is probably not the best venue to fulfill his government-imposed obligation of Spokesman for 'Snuff It Out' Anti-Tobacco Campaign, but then, it's not as if Constantine actually has much sincerity in that respect, giving a short speech written by someone else about the dangers of cigarettes whilst chain-smoking all the way through it, finishing with-]

I 'ad cancer meself once upon a time, but then I tricked a demon into curing me, so now I can do whatever the bloody hell I want. Cheers. [The camera man filming him looks at him askance. John is unfazed.] What? Piss off.

[Then comes play]

[While there's no way John's going to wear a costume (too much like the bloody time-traveling Legends), he's happy to join in on all the drinking, carousing and bawdy joke telling, standing in the midst of like-minded revelers and relating this gem amongst others:]

What did the the elephant say to the naked man? "It's cute, but can yeh breathe through that thing?"

[Playtime's over, for everyone except the fairies]

[Still managing to keep from wearing a costume (the powers of resistance are strong with this one), John isn't so drunk that he doesn't notice the odd behavior of those more unfortunately clad, and having a bit of a sixth sense where magic's involved, realizes something's amiss, eventually coming across people dancing a bit maniacally, which John upon closer investigation promptly deduces-]

These poor sods are trapped in a fairie circle, being forced to dance to the point of exhaustion, death, or madness. So then, I'll need to cast wild marjoram and thyme into the circle and befuddle the fairies in order to get them out.

Wandering About

This is actually a nice change of pace for Finn. It brings up feelings of nostalgia for Skyrim, and eases some of his homesickness. He had no idea Earth humans threw festivals like this.

Finn breaks out the mage robes he ported in with, along with the black boots he came with, having not worn this outfit since he went home last. It's nice to have an excuse to dress like this again, much as he likes his denim.

Food
He hits the food, tempted to try the giant turkey legs, but he settles for a fried pickle and some chicken wings. "You'd think this food would break the immersion." And yet he's still taking a bite of the pickle. "They certainly don't have these in Tamriel."

Music
At some point, Finn wanders over to the musicians, certainly reminded of the bards back in the cornerclubs and inns. Finn also happened to bring his own lute, and he finds an unoccupied corner of the fair to break it out and start playing. He starts with a round of The Dragonborn Comes

Roaming
Anders wore the feathered robes today, the ones he arrived in. It just seemed appropriate for the occasion. And of course, he has his new staff, that Darin made for him, strapped across his back. He's actually seen a few copycat versions of his outfit, along with the Grey Warden robes he obtained the wake of that charity, and wore a couple of times.

Anders pauses to watch some of the choreographed sword fighting. "We have this kind of thing in my world," He says to nobody in particular. "Except it's usually real and results in lost limbs or bloodstains."

Magic
The magic shows are fun to watch, even if it's obviously not real magic. The fun is watching them pull off the trick and making it look real. When the stage magicians pull off a trick where an egg appears to turn into a real dove, he says, "Okay, that's pretty impressive."

Into the Night
As the sun sets and Anders thinks about going home, when a lady in peasant clothing comes up to him and says, "Kind sir mage, I might have a touch of consumption?" She then starts coughing.

Anders thinks it's strange that she's still in character, and from the sound of her cough, she probably just has a bit of allergies or a tickle in the throat. Still, he shrugs and gives her a quick wave of blue healing magic. She thanks him and goes on her way, still in her terrible accent.

"That was weird."

Not as weird as if someone were to come up to him, and have taken on their costume's persona.

The man that had come up beside him to watch the display of combat nods, and doesn't say anything in response at first. Mostly because David's trying to formulate a good response to that. One that doesn't involve 'yeah it can be like that back where I'm from too'. Of course, not a lot of heroes use swords, but when you worked with heroines like Magik and Pixie, you had to get used to blades. Not to mention Wolverine and his ilk.

"We have both kinds of this back home. Ren faires are really popular. Never really understood why. It's a lovely day for a fair, that much is certainly true. Of course, Crowley isn't exactly in festive colors - he's in his usual black, though perhaps he's also added a half-cape with a dramatic red lining, just because.

He's wandering the stalls, comfortable as anything in his getup, perusing items for sale (and possibly eyeing up a few things as possible gifts for a certain angel), but he still manages to sniff a bit.

Leave it to a demon to take something fun and complain about it.

"You know, the whole Renaissance thing is a misleading name. It's this weird mix of medieval and Tudor stuff, neither of which is actually Renaissance." And then he spots someone with pointy elf ears. "Ah well, what do you expect."


[ Afternoon; ]

By late afternoon, one corner of the fair grounds becomes shrouded in a damp mist. It's forested, so the fairies will perhaps have to lead people in and out. If one ventures inside, one may encounter the infamous Black Knight.

The armor, he has to admit, is starting to get a bit rusty.

"Who dares enter the realm of the Black Knight?" he asks, in his most commanding, sinister and villainous voice. He's got heroes to fight, souls to damn, that sort of thing.

Does he think he's back in 500 AD Wessex? You bet your ass.

Morning

Marco, for his point, had declined the costume. In fact, he hadn't even been asked, because he'd just flown to the ceremony to begin with and nobody was offering the birds costumes. He'd debated getting one, because he thought wearing a lady's gown and corset would be hilarious, but it would have required committing to staying human all day and... pass. So instead the teenager is in pretty typical clothes: Shorts, a T-shirt, and sandals.

Most of the people were way too earnest and into it, it was a bit weird. Marco was nerdy, but there was nerdy and there was nerdy.

Luckily at least one person saw this for the farce it was.

"That's not to mention it's ridiculously Euro-centric!" Marco agrees, "Where are the human sacrifices and pyramids? I feel very marginalized right now."

[It’s been a while since M’s been to a Ren Faire, but he has come prepared, dressed in his own costume that he’s had in his closet since the last one. The masked gentleman rogue makes his way around the fairegrounds, taking in the sights and looking to have a good time that hopefully doesn’t end in something getting blown up.

He can be found, of course, at one of the many eateries scattered throughout the Faire, where he will be eating (or drinking!) his way through the menu, and will helpfully offer suggestions to anyone nearby unsure of what they want to eat.

Though he doesn't intend to get himself involved in any of the games, an idiot who clearly didn’t think things through challenges M to an archery competition undoubtedly to impress... someone. Unfortunately for the other man, he doesn’t. M not only takes the time to beat this idiot, he does so so thoroughly the man probably can’t be seen in public for years after his resounding defeat without facing public humiliation. M seems oblivious to the crowd that’s formed as he accepts his golden arrow from Maid Marian, which he smugly sticks through his tri-corner hat.

At some point he’s found one of the bards around, the one singing songs not meant for children. He might not know the songs, but he likes the cut of their jibs, and so he happily enjoys the show, inviting someone he knows over for a listen too.

From his last trip to a Ren Faire, he remembers that the staple of the day is the joust, and so he settles in for one enjoyable, yet incredibly choreographed performance, taking care to sit next to someone he knows, should he see them.]


Afternoon
[It isn’t long after that the events of the morning seem to slip away from M, as his computer seems to take more of a front seat than it usually does… though if you asked the masked man about the buzzing in his head, he’d find himself hard-pressed to remember the word “computer”. The Man of Midnight heeds the buzzing’s sirens call. He sees a dangling coin purse; he coyly purloins it from its original owner. Then another. And another. All the while silently slipping them into the hem of his coat.

At some point he sees a young family setting up camp in a corner of the grounds; he “drops” one of the purses nearby before slipping away unnoticed.

Should his actions finally be witnessed, M grins a bit, tipping his cap to the would-be paladin for their shrewdness.]

I fear that I already know how this story ends, good sir/madam… and it does not look good for you.

[ When Bean arrived and they tried to get him into a costume, he'd replied in an annoyed tone, "The only 'costume' I'm wearing is my Dragon Army flash suit."

This, of course, leads to him being stuffed into an adorable dragon costume. He is not happy.

Though it bothers him less and less as the day wears on. By the afternoon, he's stopped feeling so uncomfortable in his scales, so to speak. He's starting to really feel the part, striding about the fairgrounds with all the confidence of a real dragon.

His eyesight is as keen as ever, so he easily picks out the clever thief in the crowd, gliding over to loom behind him.

(Well. Sort of. It's hard to loom when you're less than five feet tall.) ]

[Getting into the spirit of things]

Being originally from the 31st century, Bart totally gets romanticizing the past. He just never quite got why the 21st century liked their anachronistic views of the 12th-16th centuries. However, he was apparently expected to attend if he wanted to register, and it was a fee pass to get out of school and work for a little bit, so why the heck not?

Which is how you got a speedster in scarlet-and-gold motley capering around, the particolored hose only slightly baggy, and the pointed shoes and cap of bells making him feel foolish, but that was the point. So he wandered around the faire, trying out all the different food vendors as well as the Turkey Leg Eating Contest, where he considered entering, but thought it might be unfair because superspeed and a super-metabolism means he never really feels full. Then he pokes around various shops and entertainment venues where he might or might not have gotten into one of the juggling acts.

[Beware the Black Knight?]

After the swearing in ceremony, he ended up at the joust because apparently that was where everyone was going. The rest of the place was practically a ghost town as the stands filled, but he managed to get a decent enough place to watch, and a bag of roasted, flavored almonds and pecans to eat while things went down. And because he could, he cheered for the Black Knight instead of the champion, garnering plenty of looks from the people around him.

"Come on, the Black Knight never is truly defeated, so he's absolutely the best. Or maybe she. It's not like you can tell in that armor." It just feels right. Heckling. Just a smidge. It's not like he's a rodeo clown, just another fool among many.

[Just Fooling Around]

As the day turns long, the Scarlet Simpleton is seen making merry wherever and whenever he can. While his wit is lightning-quick, it's his hands that get him the best reactions, and he's gathered a small crowd, the various lords and ladies waving various small objects to get his attention and add to the variety he's currently juggling. A dagger, a gilded lady's hairbrush, and a lit torch are just a few of the things dancing in arcs above his hands, a seeming chaos that never quite gets dropped, although every now and then there's a close call.

"Ah, you, good sir, with the apple. Kindly toss it my way, I feel a bit peckish with all this exertion," the Fastest Fool of the Faire calls in a voice pitched to carry, and when the bystander complies, he catches it, not with a hand, but in his mouth, juggling one-handed as he pulls away the bitten fruit and adds it to the mix, taking a bite now and again to keep the ball rolling.

Black Knights Aren't Always Bad

He's not the only one cheering for the Black Knight. Just the other guy is being silent about it, shaking his head at Bart sitting beside him. He's more of an anachronism, not willing to trade his clothes that were carefully chosen to cover as much skin as possible, which means jeans, a henley, and black gloves. At least David makes it look good.

"You know," he observes quietly to Bart, "it would be better written if the Black Knight actually got to win sometimes."

Renaissance festivals feel almost like home for Kang. The level of technology, food, and the clothing (well, some of it) is familiar, and he can just relax and have some fun. Of course, he's already in period garb, wearing his nicer Lord-Governor outfit: blue kilt, white shirt, dark blue cloak, and a very nice leather belt with a few high-quality pouches hanging from it. He brought his dagger as well, peace-tied with a red cord.

He spends a lot of his time there just walking around and talking to the various vendors or anyone that happens to approach him, as he stands out in the crowd. Whenever he's stopped by children, he gives them all of his attention and even indulges them when they want to touch his wings or get up on his shoulders - one gets permission from their parents for a very short flight just above the trees. He watches the Royal Joust at noon, making sure to sit where he won't spook any of the horses as they pass him. He ends up cheering for one of the lady knights, with red hair and a fierceness that reminds him of an old friend.

For a while, he joins Pub Crawl, and ends up teaching them a couple of new songs from Krynn. One involves goblins and some highly inappropriate behavior that is anatomically impossible.

Later on, he notices people acting strangely. At first, it seems rather harmless, but as the afternoon progresses, it starts creeping him out a bit. Thankfully, he eventually figures out that it is actually harmless (though he's glad he didn't get affected) and enjoys the rest of his night.

Afternoon (if you're in costume):

This was hilarious. Marco had gone because he was supposed to go to the Swearing In, but Renn Faires weren't really his thing. Wrong type of nerd. The food was okay, and at least flying in had let him bypass the weirdly enthusiastic costume people, but overall it hadn't been his favorite morning.

But then. But then.

Then everybody had started acting ridiculous. And it was obvious what was going on, even if not why: The people thought they actually were what they were dressed up as.

And come on, like Marco wasn't going to mess with them? He was a telepathic shapeshifter.

So when he sees one, the osprey perches in a nearby tree and speaks into the mind of the poor, hapless costumed attendee:

Afternoon [for non-costumed peeps]:

Okay, messing with the people was fun, but it was far from the only opportunity the chaos presented. See, people who thought they lived in the Middle Ages didn't pay much attention to what happened to things like... wallets. Or weird green slips of paper with numbers on them. Or strange black rectangles with glass on the front.

So, again as a bird, Marco spends a fair portion of the afternoon... well, pickpocketing. Pickbirding? Either way, he's amassed a small hill of wallets, and he's gone so far as to arrange all the money into a weird kind of nest. (What, giving the bird brain something to do made him happy!) There was a phone with a timer counting down nearby, with about 30 minutes on it, but for now Marco was satisfied with his spoils.

At least until he heard footsteps.

when she's ushed towards the costumes lilith sighs, trying at first to assure them that she was fine how she was dressed. but they were insisted. so, holding a hand out, stopping them from trying to lead her anywhere else, she waves her other hand, circular motion above her head. it causes her dress to change, magic turning it into something more period-appropriate for this affair. though she'd left her hair as it already had been, loose waves and settling around her shoulders )

( though she'd kept out of people's ways, watching from a quiet side, her attention had been drawn to the jousts, first watching the actors show off their skills but later watching other imports see how they fared. some were marginally impressive whilst others were incredibly foolish.

but it didn't hold her attention for long, lilith soon becoming bored with the display. it has her moving from where she'd been stood, turning to leave the fair even before the jousts have concluded. though she still has a crowd to move herself through )

[ Wanda had a good seat for the joust: Hers. Levitating on what is wisps of scarlet — kind of like cotton candy, except magic. Not only is she sitting above the crowd of spectators, she's also sitting away from the largest clump of them. So, more like above and to the side.

She's also not that interested or invested in the view, considering this is a weird sport. ]

( philippa has never seen anything quite like this before. being from an entirely different century, a different universe where none of this matters-- it's a strange sight to see, particularly the clothes. where is the black and the leather? the studs and-- well, at least there's a corset.

but she's not impressed, staring at the dresses with a particular distaste in her expression. you want her to wear that? also what the hell is it supposed to be and how is it practical in the slightest? she might not be backing away but she's also not getting any closer, just watching them and definitely judging anyone she sees )

( she'd ended up ignoring the clothes, not able to be convinced to wear something that wasn't the casual wear she'd found earlier in the month. and considering the activities that were occurring were ones that philippa thought seemed and looked ridiculous it was amazing that she was still here.

but then she'd seen the food and the alcohol and at least something wasn't completely awful. it was still very different to anything she'd had before but considering some of the alien alcohols that she'd had in the past, things that were very questionable philippa wasn't even asking what it was before drinking it.

the annoying part is the moving around from 'pub' to 'pub' every so often but just keep the drinks coming )

[Jacob isn't participating in the crawl per se, but that doesn't mean he can't take some time to check out one of the pubs during this Swear-In. So far, he's not a big fan of medieval-style drinks, but he doesn't mind the atmosphere. He lifts his glass of mead in greeting when Philippa sits down near him.]

Hey. Welcome to the... 'Queasy Mule,' I think this place is called.

[Not the most encouraging of names, but at least it's distinctive.]

Al has never understood the appeal in dressing up like people from the past, nor is he keen on joining in on the fun... but the people seem so enthusiastic, he finds himself unable to refuse. He finally settles upon the heavy clothing of a blacksmith, complete with a ridiculous fake mustache to help him look more burly, he supposes.

He soon regrets his choice, however, as he gets hotter as the day progresses, and can be seen drinking as much water as he can find, though he balks to himself at the food stall prices.

"$2 for a bottle of water? ... really?"

Al then finds himself in the blacksmith actors' tent, except his alchemy and ability to craft weapons out of it draws more of a crowd than the professionals. Sensing his nervousness and guffawing, they seem more than happy to leave him to his own devices and try and keep up with a gaggle of children, all wanting their own custom wooden swords and shields.

Noon rolls around, however, and Al finds himself forgetting to use alchemy, clumsily handling the tools he is given, the blacksmiths treating him like the fumbling apprentice he is, and by the time the spell breaks, he's nursing several burns. He's so exhausted, though, he'll have to wait to heal himself.

First Aid Is Here

It's not until midnight that David makes it out of the faerie ring he spent most of the evening hours in. But when he does, he makes the rounds, patching up who he can. Is it any surprise that, in time, David finds Alphonse. Finds his friend and immediately unslings a medical kit from his belt.

"Let me see the burns."

This faire, Tina decides, is her newest favorite thing. The middle ages were so romantic in her mind, after all- knights fighting for their ladies, courtly love, singing songs to each other. And, of course, there were the horses.

Tina starts off dressed as a knight, though she's a bit of a klutz trying to move around in the armor, and the stablehands keep having to shoo her away, as she refuses to accept the offered stick horse.

"But I'm a knight!" she protests. "Knights ride horses, don't they? REAL ONES, not toys..."

She finally has to give up and instead indulges in the various fried foods on available, eventually deciding to change her costume and be an apprentice scribe instead. That way it's more socially acceptable to gorge on turkey legs- the muse must be nourished, after all!

As the day goes on, Tina finds herself really getting into her role... and anyone within earshot will be treated to her attempts at love poetry, with her even chasing after teenage boys to compose some.

[From what she heard, Naminé kinda liked Tina's poetry. Granted, she felt like anybody could have a try at it and put their own twist to it, so it was never gonna sound awful to her. That's what art is all about, after all!

[ Neatly decked out in his heavy armour, Apollo slowly tours the grounds as he takes in the bizarre sights and smells of the faire. It's all completely ridiculous of course, the kind of thing that he knows he'd never really have the time or inclination for back home, but as it's a Swear-In Apollo feels at least a bit obliged to turn up. Considering how these affairs tend to go.

He pauses at an activity schedule, printed in a handwriting font on a piece of ye olde tea-stained paper, and skims the contents. ]

Fire eating, jousting, archery, eating contests...

[ He tails off, humming thoughtfully as he glances at whoever's next to him with a faint grin. ]

So what time's the peasant uprising?

[ Commentary on socio-political history? Or an observation of how Swear-Ins tend to devolve into violent madness? It's a little bit of both. ]

No Gods, No Kings

[ The afternoon slides by in a haze as Apollo finds himself increasingly more comfortable in this new uniform, until the line between him and the man the armour makes him is blurred beyond recognition. The armour is a second skin now; the heavy white shield with it's blazing golden sun is his, his emblem, his soul hammered out into something solid and tangible, something he can believe in and die for.

The Golden Knight. The knight of the dawn, of the setting sun. He swears loyalty to neither kings nor gods, vainglorious and useless as they are. The Sun's knight serves the people, not the people's rulers.

The shield stands propped against his legs now as he sits at a table in the tavern, his maned helm on the table before him; a giant of a man sitting head and shoulders above the other patrons as they crowd around the table. The gold doesn't gleam quite so brightly now and the white cape is muddied at the edges but that's fine. He's happy where he is, sat at his tavern table, surrounded by the hubbub, and occasionally turning to whoever's nearby to offer: ]

I'd estimate around one pm, when people are getting a bit foot sore and and annoyed with their costumes.

[Peasant uprisings tend to be around when people are getting tired with the status quo, and that should be about then. But that's half the reason David's here. The other reason is actually swearing in. But there is definitely a correlation between a swear-in and the messes. And sometimes you needed people on site to help with it.]

Of course, those aren't always predictable. Perhaps, Sir Knight, you'll help protect the innocents?

[Unlike Apollo, David's managed to keep to his own clothes. Mostly out of a combination of need and choice. Can't risk touching people with bare skin given his powers, couldn't stand all the immediate North African warriors or moorish style clothes thrust at him, and all sans gloves. No, he doesn't fit in, just like Apollo stands out in his own way.]

A: Costume rental stall.

Abigail remembers her first swearing in ceremony.   It was about three years ago and also a Renaissance Faire.   This time, she promises herself that she will find a more comfortable dress.   And she does.   When she emerges from the changing tent, she's happy with her chosen costume. .   She's offered a flower crown to complete her look and turns it down politely as she looks over the accessories.  So many of her fans seem to want her in flower crowns; she wants a change.   She picks a quiver filled with fake arrows to wear on her back and a toy dagger to clip on her belt.   There.   She's a Renaissance huntress. She figures that's no crazier than some of the other costumes she's seen. She moves to the side when she sense someone nearby.  "Oh, sorry, are you getting accessories too?"

B.   Turkey Leg Eating Contest.

Abigail enjoys a good piece of meat and enters the contest.   She decides to stop when she starts to feel full and watches the rest.  When it's over, she glances around at the other diners with a chuckle.  "I didn't even come close.  Maybe next time."

C.  Archery Contest.

Before the contest - Abigail practices a few shot to become accustomed to using a bow and arrow, in an area where others are practicing as well.   It takes her a few shots to get close to her target, giving time for anyone to offer advice or encouragement.

After the contest, she feels disappointment.   Not the she didn't win a prize, but because she couldn't shoot her arrow perfectly in the center of the target. "I'm better with a rifle." 

D.  Afternoon.

Abigail wanders away from the main fair and slowly follows a rabbit as it makes its way through the woods.  She has her bow in hand with an arrow, ready to fire.  Her mind is filled with thoughts of meals she can make and trades for its fur.  She stalks quietly and when the moment is right, she fires.  The arrow bounces off the rabbit without causing any harm.  Abigail picks the arrow up and stares at it in utter confusion, too affected by the fairie wish to realize it's a fake arrow.

B

Ben had been seated near her, a pirate in costume, and tried his hardest to eat as much of the leg as he could, but he too kind of crapped out when he felt full. Maybe he shouldn't have eaten those fried pickles before this.

Others were still eating and Ben just leaned back, picking at his. "Yeah, I second that. If I eat much more it's all coming back for a revisit. And that would be a shame."

01. Dressing Up
[Kirk hadn't intended to spend the day at the Ren Faire, had only really come to try to sort out his registered status with the government and leave... but that plan immediately went to hell when Ben had gotten a hold of him and dragged him into the costume booth, emerging dressed as an old-time alchemist (sans the mercury symbol), the small, round red glasses he wore today matching the ensemble a bit too well.

Pulling on the sleeves of his costume, he looks over at another imPort emerging from the booth and asks:]

Be honest--how ridiculous do I look right now?

02. Exploration
[What was once a quest to locate where to actually do the swearing in comes a plethora of distractions that Kirk's nerdy heart just hadn't been expecting, and soon the task lies temporarily forgotten as he explores the grounds.

He can be found looking at and remarking on various oddities for sale at some from some of the local vendors, or purchasing a piece of quality leatherwork.

Unlike most of those at the Faire, he seems to be giving a wide berth to the food stalls, though at times he sits at one of the picnic tables to listen to music or take in a show

Finally, he settles into the stands for the first joust of the day, promising himself that once this is done, he will finally go about fixing his registration status.

If at any point he runs into someone he knows, or even someone he finds interesting or catches staring, he'll comment:]

This is certainly... something, isn't it?

[He doesn't hate it, but he'll be damned if he knows how to classify it, either.]

Afternoon
01. Escape
[Unfortunately for Kirk Langstrom, vampiric member of imPact, he never does get his registration status cleared up, because he doesn't get that far before thoughts of registration fade from memory completely and are replaced with the knowledge that he is simply Kirk Langstrom, Alchemist. A fact which gets him promptly captured by the dastardly pirate known as Ben, though he manages to escape from his clutches.

Which is why he might be found dashing through the forest far quicker than the Alchemist thought possible, or leaning against a tree while attempting to catch his breath. Should someone approach him, he'll grab one of the vials from his chest and hold it in mid-air in threat.]

D-don't come any closer!

02. Exploration
[Unlike most of the villagers, Kirk seems unafraid of the queer buildings that have seemingly sprung up from hell into this forest, and once he no longer fears recapture, he begins to explore the buildings and booths in earnest, poking at the mechanical wonders inside, testing a few to see what secrets they may hold for the most curious among them. He squeaks in surprise as turning a wheel above a metal hole produces water from the metal stick beneath it, jumping back as the rush of water pours out, then disappears into the hole. Noticing someone approach and judging them not to be a threat, he motions them over.]

Come look at this. Isn't it queer?

[Or, should he judge them to be a threat, he quickly--and conspicuously--drops beneath the booth in the hopes that they pass him by unnoticed. Someone has forgotten they're far more dangerous than they think.]

Former Robin (Hood)

[Dick may have hung up the red and green tights, but he's still a fan of costumes. And his old hero name always at least a little bit honored a different hero of his. This seems like a good time to go all out with his Robin Hood costume.

What he isn't expecting is that the same powers that make his domino mask that much more effective extends to other costumes. The hood hides his face even less than the domino mask, but even people who know him well enough to know his secret identity look at him like he's a stranger. At first it's a little disconcerting. Then it's a little freeing. Considering how many strangers here recognized him, it's nice to have things going the other way for a little bit.

It's not long before he finds a trapeze, and well, he can't resist showing off. The attendant is offering lessons, but Dick waves them off. He shucks his boots and the costume shirt and climbs up the ladder. It's been a long time since he did this regularly. It still feels like coming home.

Several flips and turns later, he somersaults down, bounces off the net, and lands on his feet, dipping into a bow. He feels energized in a way he hasn't since getting here. It's nice.]

Things Change

[Robin draws his hood down, glancing around cautiously. He's an outlaw, a vigilante, and if he's not careful, the Sheriff will have his head. Still, the fair's an exciting place, and it's well worth the risk.

Especially with all the plump purses ripe for the taking. His fingers are light and quick as his hand dips into pockets and purses, liberating wallets from the wealthy attendees of the fair. If he sees someone impoverished he may redistribute that wealth, or at least steal them a snack. It's disgraceful the way the Sheriff's taxes have affected the community. But he can help.]

Things Change Back

[It's a good thing Dick mostly stole wallets during his brief period as an actual thief. The IDs inside makes it easy to track down the owners. He's got his hood down, and looks extremely embarrassed as he holds it out.]

[Frankly, there aren't a lot of things going on around here that hold David's attention very long, mostly because most of the entertainment are from people who are just showing off and are employed here. But this one?

David was minding his own business, walking through the aisles, until he comes out into a more open area with, for lack of a better term, games. And so much attention is on a man on the trapeze.

David's just as captivated as anyone else, especially when he hears someone whisper that he was just another faire goer.

And, like others, well, he does join in on the applause Dick garners.]

[For those wondering, yes, George did lose a bet. And that meant Shaun got to pick her costume, though her veto power and their shared paranoia meant he didn't go too wild. She's still got her sunglasses because period accuracy isn't worth destroying her eyes or the itch of her contacts, and she's not about to bother with a wing so her hair is as close-cropped as ever, but she is in an actual honest-to-god dress.

And solid boots that are good for running. Swear-ins go wrong often enough that she's twitchy. Call it paranoid, or call it common sense, she's going to be prepared.

For the moment, at least, things seem fine. She doesn't participate in any of the activities, just watches from the sideline, but under her sunglasses she looks very slightly less murderous than usual. With her that's practically giddy.]

[Lady Georgia is not enjoying the fair very much. The sun is much too bright, even through her dark glasses, and she'd rather be indoors writing her searing exposes on the Sheriff and his corrupt practices. But what's a girl to do? There's a fair, and she has sworn to make an appearance. Doesn't mean she's happy about it.

One might not know anything's changed to see the way she storms through the fair. Later, she'll be glad of that much, at least. One day of forced cheerfulness was more than enough. At least this time she's still more or less herself.]

[Gabby is having fun today. This is officially the best swear-in ever.

She joins the fair as a tiny but fierce knight, eagerly taking part in every single contest she can find. She eats the turkey leg with enough vigor to make others step back to get out of her splash range. She manages a bullseye on someone else's target, but not a single arrow hits her own. As for jousting, well, she definitely wasn't planning on murdering her opponent. But from the look in her eye as she charged, they might not have known it.

Even without magic involved, she's hamming it up, doing her best noble knight speech and bowing to the people who have put on their noble finery, or anything that resembles finery. She doesn't actually know enough about renfaire times to know what's supposed to be fancy and what's peasanty. And everyone looks so pretty!

She never knew how badly she wanted to be a part of a renfaire until she learned what a renfaire is. Now she wants to go all the time.]

[Sir Gabrielle Kinney is known for her fierceness in battle, the way she shrugs off injuries and seems almost like a wild animal in her rage. But she's also very serious about her duties. She's sworn to defend the realm, and that means following around those who may not be able to fend for themselves and protecting them from any dangers that may appear.

It also means hunting down any dastardly villains that might make an appearance during the fair. She's on to you, bad guys.]

[This one might come under her radar. He's unaffected as he insisted on wearing his actual costume and not one from the RenFaire. He vaguely assisted David earlier - but then left him stuck in a mushroom circle caused by mischievous fairies. Currently, he's striding around unhelpfully just observing the chaos.]

Costume Shop
[Though he may not seem the type, Roland has been to more than one Ren Faire in his life, though it's been many, many years since his last Faire. He went because he was a nerd, but also to watch the actors sword fight up close, and perhaps pick up a few tricks.

He might not need those tricks now, but that doesn't stop him from dressing up at the suggestion to enjoy the day, and emerges from the tent dressed as a medieval knight. As he leaves, he shakes his head at the person offering him a fake sword, before smiling and going.]

Oh, no thank you, I have my own.

[As if to prove his point, he holds out his hand, and in a flash of light, a sword looking straight out of a fantasy JRPG appears.]

Sword fighting
[True to form, Roland has found himself at one of the cheoreographed sword shows, feeling like a kid again. It didn't matter that he's personally fought monsters and dragons with an actual sword dressed in what would be considered fantasy gear here, it was nostalgia, plain and simple.

When the actors ask for a participant from the crowd, he fights the urge to raise his hand, knowing damn well he's far too old to do such a thing, he finds himself getting called up regardless, pegged as an imPort despite his outfit. The actors show him the routine, and it's a variation of something Roland recognizes. Given his turn to replicate it, he moves like lightning, the stage rapier paper-thin in his hand compared to his usual weapons. He flushes a bit at the applause and quickly slips back into his seat, where he hopes to just enjoy the rest of the show.]

I hope I didn't embarrass myself too much up there... [He mutters to no one in particular.]

Fantasy becomes Reality
[For all that Roland's lived in what would be considered a fantasy world, he was never an actual knight. He may have protected citizens with a blade, but he was a consul, a lawmaker, first. As the faeries spell sets onto the fairegrounds, Roland remembers exactly none of that, and is overcome with the need to protect those around him. He assists in the evacuation of the mysterious buildings, and helps build several of the fire pits, sitting around one later in the evening. Noticing someone in the periphery, he waves them over.]

Come, eat, be merry! There is plenty room for one more!

Duty calls
[But the Knight of Evermore isn't simply sitting around digging ditches, he can be found around the grounds looking for trouble, or offering assistance where needed. He doesn't hesitate to get into the thick of things, summoning one of his prized blades from thin air to aid him as needed.]

Oh, it was terrible.

[ Guess who's climbing over the row behind Rupert, clambering over the seat backs to throw himself into the (conveniently) empty space beside his housemate. Rupert seems to have taken the Renaissance bit of 'Ren Faire' pretty damn seriously, although the effort stops short at the designer sunglasses that perch on his regal nose. ]

Your contra-sixte parry was a mess. Compensating for having a lighter blade, I should think. [ He grins cheerfully at Roland and pats him on the arm with (what he hopes is) infuriating sympathy for the entirely made up criticism he's throwing at Roland. ] Don't worry, I'm quite sure I'm the only one who noticed.

[ That is to say: Rupert's the only one good enough to have noticed. Peasants and amateurs, the rest of them. ]

a. getting into costume

['Oh, really? I don't think--' had been all the protest Jane had really managed to get out before she was chivvied into the tent and "encouraged" to choose a costume. Well... it's all for the fun of things, isn't it? She takes a little time, and eventually picks out something relatively demure and puts it on, giving a little spin for good measure before she heads out into the faire itself.

Spotting anyone outside already in a costume, she'll give them a wave and a smile and one of those looks that just says, in the most English way possible, that 'when in Rome'. For anyone not in a costume, perhaps looking unsure while being led along by eager staff, she grimaces slightly and tries to step in--]

Oh, dear, is it really that important? I'm sure they'll come back later...

[Just because she got strongarmed into it doesn't mean everyone should be...]

b. food(?)

Do people actually eat this...?

[All of it looks terribly greasy. It isn't her first time seeing this kind of food while she's been here, but certainly her first time up close and as the only kind of food which is on offer. Jane is grimacing slightly at a selection of deep-fried food, her hands clasped together and held up near her chest as if she can already feel her arteries clogging just by looking at it.]

Ah... maybe I'll wait until later.

c. shows and demonstrations

[Jane makes her way around the faire at a leisurely pace, eventually picking up something that looks more edible to her and a glass of what she thinks is some kind of beer. She stops by the magicians, watching their tricks in wide-eyed delight, and once she's finished her chosen treats she can be found quite visibly clapping at the antics of the acrobats.

The sword-fighting holds her attention for a while, as well, and she can be found drifting back to the fire-eating demonstration several times over the course of the day.

At each demonstration, she spends some time drawing, producing a few sketches of what is going on in front of her. If you happened to be 'in frame' at the time she took her mental snapshot, there you are in the drawing, in perfect detail.]

d. getting into character

[As it turns out... Jane's chosen outfit doesn't particularly align to a role. She's no knight or jester, not a princess or a witch, but she is, as the evening wears on and things start to become just that bit too strange... quite afraid.

Late in the evening, when Jane is no longer aware of what time period she is supposed to be in or even quite where she is and what is going on, she can be found hiding at the back of one of the ren faire stalls, waiting for it to be over...]

[Ben is a pirate, and he's not taking his roll seriously, which is to say, he's just being his best pirate and enjoying life. He's been wandering the faire, buying things here and there, and watching people.]

[That's when he sees Jane. Smiling at her seated there, sketching what looks like a fire eating demonstration, Ben meanders over, Bending over a bit to steal a sneak peek of her sketch, only to go wider eyed at it.]

Oh wow, Jane. You're amazing. Ah, sorry. I didn't mean to pry, but you're really very good.
