I'm Not Clumsy, I Just Don't Let Anything Stand In My Way | Open Log
WHO: Darin Altway and you!
WHERE: Various Locations
WHEN: All throughout July
WHAT: Darin's self-healing abilities have been exhausted thanks to the events during the Belgium mission! Which means his stamina has plummeted and he's susceptible to all types of injuries and shenanigans.
WARNINGS: Darin literally being too stupid to survive
-Heropa: Residence 002-
[Since returning from Belgium and all of the other general excitement from last month, Darin has been doing his best to rest and recover. However, as anyone who knows Darin can attest to, it's impossible to keep him still for very long. If he can't go on any serious missions, he's certainly not going to just lay about! So, he's doing some work on the house! If any roommates have a request for him, you can bet your ass he's working on them. He had already promised Cece a small balcony for her room, and he figures that while he's building that, he can do some maintenance on the roof! (Hurricane season is around the corner after all.) But as handy as Darin is, he might have relied too much on his healing abilities to deal with mistakes that can happen during construction. Better be ready with the first aid kit. And hopefully none of the neighbors startle him when he's on the roof.]
-Heropa: Residence 002-
[Well, it finally happened. Without Darin's self-healing, the worst has finally transpired: Darin has contracted a summer cold. He's never been sick in his life thanks to his ability to heal, so he is not taking it well. Thunderous sneezes, horrible coughing fits, a mild fever, gods just let him die. When he's not passed out and making gross, congested snoring sounds, he's definitely complaining non-stop. But he has entirely too much pride to let anyone take care of him, so you might find him in the kitchen huddled under a robe and at least four comforters attempting to make soup. Or tea.]
[...Wait, is he trying to make soup in the tea kettle?]
-Nonah: Darin's Forge-
[Because it's clearly a good idea to let Darin, who is unable to regenerate, anywhere near a place that is likely to instantly kill him, right? Well, just try and keep him from working. On the bright side, he has enough sense not to do anything too strenuous. In fact, all he's doing right now is finalizing some blueprints and designs. He's not even considering going near the fore or messing with any of the other dangerous things he's cobbled together over the last year.]
[Though that doesn't mean he can't be convinced. Stop on in and ask for some demonstrations, why don't you?]
-Maurtia Falls: Patrol-
[So, just because Darin doesn't immediately heal doesn't make him useless, right? As long as he's careful, he can still fulfill his Aegis Force duties, such as going on patrol. Hell, maybe even the sight of him is enough of a deterrent for some ne'erdowells! And it's not like it's common knowledge he can't heal right now. All he has to do is play it cool and play it safe! Hell, maybe he'll be lucky and things will be quiet.]
[Since when is Darin ever lucky?]
[There's the sound of an alarm nearby and people running in the opposite direction of it. Whatever it is, Darin can't ignore it.]
[Maybe he should have made sure he had a partner today.]
-Wildcard-

maurtia falls....
not for the worse, mind.
when darin goes in the direction of the alarm, crobat's the one that follows him. swooping down from somewhere behind nearby roofs. predictably, archie's not long behind it. he gave up patrol long ago but... well, he can never leave anything well enough alone, can he?
casually, as he jogs next to darin, the hood of one of the hoodies he's always wearing bouncing along behind him:] Ain't no moment of rest in the Falls, huh?
Re: maurtia falls....
Anyway, what're you doin'? I thought you were off duty!
[Darin rounds the corner and skids to a stop. Well, that's the source of the alarm right there. That apartment building is literally on fire.]
Ah...dammit.
no subject
[hmm. he's only just realised that. bad!
anyway, archie skids to a halt next to him.] Call the fire department. Crobat! Circle the building and locate anyone that's trapped!
[he looks around with a frown...]
...Wonder if Sharpedo can... ah! Shit! Who knows what the structural integrity is like! How is this the one thing I ain't done a course in!

Forge;
Approaching the shop, Anders knocks on the open door gently.]
Hello?
no subject
Hey, come on in!
[The forge was about the size of a warehouse, and brimming with all kinds of tech and gear spanning different eras; ranging from the more familiar medieval gear to things from a far flung future like Jacob and Ashley's world.]
no subject
He glances at a dagger hanging on the wall.]

[such a powerful voice from a tiny body! and all the indignant authority of a school matron, at that.
she stands at the threshold of the kitchen looking like she's just spotted a child with their fingers in a cake or something.]
You put that soup can down right this second and GET BACK TO THE COUCH.
Re: heropa
[Darin's literally holding the soup can over the kettle like he's trying to pour it in.]
[Except he never opened it.]
[Gods his eyes look so bleary and his nose is running and he basically looks like the grossest thing alive.]

helix WILDCARD BAYBEE
[Lucina holds the alcohol-soaked cotton ball up as proof before slowly making her way to the last scrape she needs to clean before wrapping this idiot up. if she were more exasperated, she'd remark on how she's tended to five-year olds with more patience and less complaint, but...that's not fair. he's not really dealt with first aid much before, has he? not with that healing rate.
choose-your-own-calamity goes here; regardless, Lucina's here to make sure none of these superficial wounds get infected!]
WHOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAA
[Except who the hell would have guessed that cuts from glass would hurt so much?! It's a good thing those jackasses were just simple thugs and not metahumans or things could have gotten way uglier.]
[Needless to say, he's had a reaction to every single moment Lucina has put that blasted cotton ball up to his skin.]
Are you sure you're not dowsing that thing in fire?! This is literally the worst pain I've ever felt!
[That's such a lie and they both know it.]
no subject
so maybe she dabs the cut a with a bit more gusto than necessary. so what! he needs to learn that actions have consequences!
also. also maybe it's a bit great to be the stronger one here; this arm is not getting out of her vice-grip in a hurry.]
You're lucky none of those shards wedged in under the skin, you know. That'd require some real suffering on your part; those tweezers would've had to be quite intrusive!

not on purpose; it flew backward out of Martin's hands!
also there is a giant pokemon dog rushing to come get it-slash-pounce on Darin: one because the stick is there and two because he probably knows this smelly forge man can take it.]

Maurtia Falls
But Guzma isn't halfway decent.
Nah, he's been annoyed since their last run in, even if things seemed to have ended fine. Friendly, almost. That's the problem, though. It wasn't fine by Guzma's book, especially when he was left to stew it over and find new reasons to be pissed about it. So, when he catches sight of Darin trying to hurry off towards where that crowd is fleeing from, he releases one of his Pokémon: Masquerain.
With a gesture towards Darin, the Pokémon flies off to catch up with him—ideal that the bug is airborne, seeing as there's all those panicked people rushing by, and making a ground approach a difficult one. Those same people, however, are about to slip on the same ice Darin likely will, considering Guzma's order:]
Yo, freeze the ground with Ice Beam!
[And maybe it would look a whole lot more intimidating if the little pixie of a bug wasn't gleefully spinning about in the air giggling as it charged up that blinding beam of frost. Intimidating or not, the effect is the same: as the Ice Beam strikes the ground near Darin, it freezes a large patch into solid, slick as shit ice.
Bad news for anyone who isn't good at keeping their balance, and with how many of those fleeing people are now slipping, sliding, and falling on their ass... well. Whether Darin's among them in coordination and traction issues doesn't matter, because Guzma's approaching Masquerain's handiwork all the same. Slouched, hands in his pockets, shit-eating smirk on his face as he stares Darin down.]
no subject
[He skids in a heap into a large mailbox, stunned. What the hell just happened?]
[He looks around in a bit of a daze, spying people in similar states of disarray due to the ice. Then he spots a giggling, fluttering...thing? What is that--]
[Finally he sighs, catching sight of a familiar face. He pinches the bridge of his nose in mild annoyance, not bothering to right himself or attempt getting up.]
Hey Guzma. Look, I'm a little busy. Can we get into a dick waving contest later? Like, after I deal with whatever is causing all the ruckus?

Nonah: Darin's Forge
She made her way into the forge, instantly feeling shy. It was one thing to talk to Darin on the network, or to meet him at a get-together, but this was his place of work and she didn't know how he'd prefer to be spoken to. It was almost easier to meet someone at work and learn how they liked to be interacted with outside of it... In the end though, instead of slipping back outside the moment she was through the door, she called out, not letting her nerves show. ]

HEROPA 002, FINALLY
[Allura heaves a sigh, heading for the front door with shopping bags hanging from both arms. Cecelia has been sending her messages all day about having to babysit Darin during the worst of her cold — evidently, she made a mistake thinking that it would have been fine for her to leave for a while. She should have sent Cecelia to buy medicine and other necessities while she stayed home. But she's back now, so everyone can rest easy. Right?]
[Despite the number of bags hanging from her arms, she doesn't seem to have any trouble opening the door on her own. As she steps into their residence, she calls out in a sing-song voice:]
Darin? Are you resting? If you are, don't get up — I'll be there in just a moment.
[Please, tell her that he is in fact resting in bed, right where he ought to be.]
no subject
[He made it, thankfully, but it was the return trip that seems to have bested him.]
[Which is why he's sprawled face down halfway into their shared bedroom. It looks like he attempted to reach the bed with the cane Archie had made for him...for some reason. As if the bed were home base and he had to touch it before getting tagged.]
[Clad in flannel pjs and a robe (he can't believe he's ever had to wear more than shorts to bed, especially in the summer!) he's just about given up on life. This is it. This is how he dies. He hates this. He hates having to have people baby him.]
