♛ WORK HARD, SLEEP HARD | nonah university district ( local coffee shops, mall food court )
- [ With university classes coming to an end for the summer semester and fast, it's as if the professors have upped the ante and barraged their students with even more final projects and exams all due at the exact same time. Haru, always the diligent student, has managed to complete her projects for the semester, but that leaves the exams that she's been prepping for day after day.
She naturally finds the school life here exciting, but it's not without its downsides. She's stayed up later than she wants to to complete her projects and with long lectures and the humidity rising as the summer solstice creeps near, she finds herself a lot sleepier than usual.
At local coffee shops or the mall food court, she sits with her textbook open and a notebook with crucial information neatly jotted down to help her study, but at some point in between staying caffeinated, reading chunks of paragraphs one after another, and writing those notes down her eyelids begin to feel heavy, as does her head.
Closing her eyes and putting her head down for a second, doesn't hurt, she tells herself. Maybe a minute at most and she'll feel rejuvenated.
But that one minute turns into several and anyone strolling past can see the girl is fast asleep, half her face hidden by soft curls and her arm laid close. ]
♛ TED KORD MEMORIAL CENTRE | heropa
- [ By now most would recognize Haru's presence in the building, as she's in and out every other week to check in on the plants she's been tending to for months on end. Today's work doesn't require much upkeep as usual, but she still gets down into the soil and gets dark brown stains on the overalls she tends to wear for these occasions.
Once she's done with the flowerbed, which is blooming full of various colourful flowers, all healthy and standing upright, she seats herself on a bench nearby and pulls out a pink bento box which is packed full of food. Maybe she'll share if you ask nicely or just look on pitifully enough. ]
♛ PET STORE | heropa
- [ This heat is not unbearable in Florida, but it's certainly a bit irksome...
Alas, Haru has to venture out into the heat to hit up the pet store now that she's adopted a kitten and brought it home. His food is nearly out, so she stops by a nearby pet store and once she's inside she decides she'll take her time given the AC is running on high in here and it's helping cool her down quickly. Her curly hair might even be a teeny bit curlier than usual (please don't point it out though, she may get flustered).
She browses up and down the aisles, basket in hand with the kitten food she needs, but maybe she should pick up some treats and new toys for the other cats in the household. She also gets distracted by the reptilian tank she finds toward the back of the store, staring in at the motionless iguanas and the snakes that burrow themselves deeper into the sand. ]
Do they actually make good pets? [ She wonders aloud to herself. ] I wonder what you would do with them...
♛ RESIDENCE #001 | heropa ( open to housemates & visitors )
- [ In the comfort of her home, Haru can either be found in the garden out back, the kitchen working on meal prep or washing the dishes, or slumbering on the sofa in the living room with her textbooks and notes on the coffee table before her. It's not the first time this has happened in the past couple of weeks either, so she isn't bothered when her housemates gently rouse her from her sleep. ]
♛ WILDCARD | anywhere you want it
- [ If you have a specific prompt in mind or want one, feel free to PM me! We can work out the details. ]

memorial centre!
On one hand, more donations are a good thing; it takes money to keep this place running. On the other hand, once he opens up the dang thing, everything immediately spills in a big pile on the floor with an unholy clattering of coins and whatever other doodads people decided to shove in there.
After the clatter, Haru will simply here an exasperated, ] Oh my god.
no subject
[ Jaime's voice doesn't register as familiar yet, but the exasperation she can hear from a nearby distance has her curious, though the loud clattering of what sounds to be coins and other objects seizes her attention almost instantly.
She's about to enjoy some of the coconut rice she holds at the end of her chopsticks, but decidedly sets it down neatly on the bench and wanders over to the source of the noise, peering around curiously to see none other than Jaime surrounded by a stressful looking mess. ]
Oh, dear. Do you need some help, Jaime?
no subject
[ He grins at her a little sheepishly. He doesn't doubt that Haru of all people has noticed that this place has gone a little neglected in the past month; despite everything, she always seems to manage to keep what he's come to think of as her corner of the Memorial well maintained. ]
I sure wouldn't say no. I didn't mean to leave it for this long, but... [ Jaime shrugs. ] You know how it is.
[ He's been meaning to catch up with her anyway, after that whole mess in her dream. He can't help but think that was something he'd never been meant to see, but now he has. ]
no subject
You must be busy, yes? Being a superhero has to be time consuming.
[ She hasn't thought of the dream yet, too busy imagining Jaime as the Blue Beetle, fighting criminals in the streets and dealing with dangerous types, like gangsters or murderers. ]
no subject
[ There's been a lot of League stuff. Paperwork. Talking. Oh my god, the talking. And the organization! And the logistics! None of it is what comes to mind when someone thinks about being a superhero but, Jaime thinks sourly, there's a lot of things people don't talk about.
He squints at the ground for a second, glancing back at the office where he could get a bucket, or... he shrugs, letting the Scarab coat one hand until it's covered in carapace, and then it becomes what's serviceably a dustpan. He starts shoving coins into it. At least he can carry them somewhere a little more convenient.
Like his desk, paperwork sorted into the specific categories of gotta deal with it and gotta deal with it but don't want to. ]
How've you been? I've been meaning to check in with you, actually. After all the, um. You know. Everything.
[ That had been one heck of a nightmare. ]
no subject
Haru sort of misses it. She misses the adrenaline rush, the adventure, the mystery. She hasn't had quite the same thrill since perhaps the Narrator's Valentine's Day fiasco, but that had ended rather gruesomely so she's not as eager to repeat that as one might think. ]
Hm?
[ She offers the coins to him, trying her best not to drop any. ]
Everything? Do you mean...? [ Ah. There's a measured pause. ] The dreams.
no subject
It's nothing anyone should have to experience. ]
It was... pretty intense. Are you okay after all that?

Pet Store
The key thing here is that at some point between leaving his homeworld and arriving here, he'd misplaced his usual cat toy. It really is a pity, he really liked it. Regardless, that's how he ended up in a pet store, poking around the toys when he hears a voice musing aloud about iguanas. He peeks his head out from the aisle he was wandering in. ]
Pretty sure it's less about doing anything with them and more about "Hey, check out my iguana! Doesn't it look cool?"
no subject
When she looks at Crow she recognizes him quickly, a smile on her face at recalling the polite young man from the Network. She has so many questions for him now, too; is he adjusting well? How is he finding the world around him? Why is he in a pet store? But Haru opts for something simple to start with, glancing between Crow and the iguana. ]
Hello, Crow! It's nice to meet you in person.
[ Her smile widens, giggling at the idea of showing off a pet iguana. ]
It does look cool, doesn't it? It's so scaly looking! Like a small dragon.
no subject
Probably safer than a dragon, too. Nice to meet you in person, too. You live in Heropa as well?
[ Not that it's particularly difficult to get around this country, what with the porters and all. ]
no subject
[ Another giggle, lifting her hand to conceal her giddiness before she lowers it to speak once more. ]
Yes, I do. I'm just in the shared housing not too far from here.
[ She adjusts the basket in her hand; kitten food is certainly heavy, particularly when purchasing one of the bigger, more expensive options. She's also loaded up on some small cans of wet food just in case. ]
Is that where they assigned you?
no subject
[ He shifts his weight slightly, settling his hands comfortably behind his head. ]
Yeah, they assigned me to some shared housing here. It's not a bad city. Warm, but I did show up in the middle of summer.
[ He nods briefly towards the kitten food she's carrying. ]
Want some help taking that home?
no subject
[ She'll sense it with her hair, considering the havoc humidity wreaks on it. She needs to invest in some good hair product again before that happens.
Following his question, Haru peers at the basket, her fingers curling a bit tighter around the handle. ]
Oh, I don't wish to trouble you, Crow.

nonah university district(coffee shop ofc)
Lucky him that he runs into the one coffee shop in which there is a girl with a familiar cloud of hair, seeming to fall asleep at a table. Not wanting to scare her awake, Akira just goes to the counter and gets his drink, as well as second one, and then two vanilla bean scones, before going to sit at the table with her, drinking his drink and eating his scone and leaving her an offering, even as he tries to sneak a peek at what she is currently studying or working on.
He had to wonder what kind of thing Haru wanted to major in! What kind of career she'd want in a world where she's got a clean slate.]
no subject
But she begins to stir. Whether it's the sweet scent of a vanilla bean scone or suddenly feeling another presence at the table, Haru slowly awakens, blinking a few times sleepily until she can fully open her eyes and see Akira seated across from her. ]
Oh! [ She sits up straight, her cheeks a dusty rose and removes her hands off the table. She's surprised to see him here at all, half-wondering if she's imagining it. ] Akira-kun, what are you doing here? Was I sleeping in public? How embarrassing...
no subject
It's a coffee shop! And you know, Goro and I used to live in Nonah. So I know and like the area~
[He knew Haru arrived when they lived there, but... it might have been awhile for her. It was still jarring it being only about a month ago for him.]
It's okay. You're studying hard, huh? Anything I might know?
no subject
But it quickly occurs to her Akira has brought her a little gift, something to keep her energy up with. She can't help a smile, the pink tinge across her cheeks darkening a touch. ]
Did you order these for me, Akira-kun? Thank you! The scone smells delicious.
[ But before she can bite into it, she glances at her textbook and then rotates it so Akira can take a look. ]
I have a Statistics exam soon, so I've been doing some practice questions, but I got stuck at this one.
[ She points to one of the questions, humming quietly. ]
Do you know the answer, Akira-kun?
thank god akira would never know this i can't remember statistics
[He's fairly sure she won't HATE it, but either way... really it was just because she was fully passed out here, and Akira thought that Haru could use the coffee.
When she offers her book and points to a question, Akira foolishly actually looks at it, but you know, he never really EXCELLED in class, and he didn't go to college either, so none of this makes sense.]
Individually, I know what most of those words mean!
[That is a no on the answer.]
it's okay i got hives googling this shit
[ He's always such a thoughtful person, Haru thinking back to the times she sat in Leblanc with him as she spent more and more time developing her own culinary and coffee skills, sampling the coffee beans she had grown. Every single time Akira and Sojiro had been wonderfully kind and supportive about it. ]
Hm? [ Realizing Akira doesn't know the answer, she can't help but laugh softly. ] These are university level Statistics... I'm sorry! That was an unfair imposition.

dunks u in maurtia falls
he's pondering that while hunched over on a railing overlooking part of the canal on his route back to the house, a backpack full of sports things hanging by his shoulders and a bag of idle groceries dangling from an elbow.
wondering what he'd do and how he'd handle another devastating loss like Cassandra is grim business, but Martin's practically a professional at it: he's already known loss from home, and this place has only given him more experience in it, now with even more emotional and complicated attachment. Rex and Andy have both vanished on him before...what of others? what if Archie were next? or Kanan, or Haru...
somehow that puts a heavier pit in his stomach, recalling pieces of a dream he can't properly glue together. his feelings on Haru are so scattered and confusing in ways dissimilar to how he thinks of others, leaving him rather at a loss. hasn't he fled from her enough times as to warrant her cutting out on him anyway? he's pretty sure he's done too much of that. he should apologize...
how very kind of the universe to place her in his path when he lifts his head and looks down the sidewalk. it's like he hallucinated her there -- so much so that he just kind of gawks as if she were simply that; she can't possibly just appear at-will, you know!
she could just be a stranger who looks a lot like Haru: at this distance, in this bright daylight, his eyes aren't exactly 20/20. even if that hair is as light and bouncy as he knows it to be, or her gait to be similar, or--
no, that's definitely Haru, isn't it. right??
oh, dear.]
no subject
She hasn't reached out to Martin in some time, each time she opened her inbox she thought about what Rex had said and decided not to bombard Martin any further than he might have been. She hasn't heard from Cassandra either, heart heavy when she thinks about her.
There isn't much time to dwell on that, though, as she spots a familiar face a few meters away. She stops in her tracks, squinting slightly. ]
Oh! Martin? I almost didn't recognize you.
no subject
as for not being easily recognized, that's probably fair: the sunglasses are taking up an almost comical amount of real estate on his face, but at least it obscures most of his gawking. even with the glasses, Haru is notably bright...and warm, maybe? or at least to him, whose face and ears feel hot.
his mouth opens and closes without a sound at first.]
I...Um, sorry. Yes, it's...me. Hello.
no subject
Of course, she isn't about to lead with that.
Instead, Haru approaches him with an ever friendly smile, lacing her hands behind her back as she closes the distanced between them. ]
Were you out shopping?
no subject
Um. A little. Just a little... [his eyes peel away for a moment to flicker down at the bag, but it's just a moment, and then back to her, even as the movement made the sunglasses slide down the bridge of his nose.]
Are...you? [is she really the same? are you yourself, he wonders, all the change within his small, pieced-together family still fresh and heavy in his mind.]
...Shopping. I guess, I mean.
no subject
[ Haru is puzzled by his question, as it doesn't have any particular context at first. She waits for him to finish, but the question he poses still throws her off as it doesn't feel as if that's what he initially wanted to ask.
She gestures to her empty arms, the only thing is her purse neatly slung around her shoulders. Too small for any groceries. ]
I was in town for work. However, my colleagues take a plan back to Nonah while I can use the Porter. [ Hehe. ] How fortunate for me, I suppose. It makes travel easier.
