WHAT: The Outsider dreams of the Void, and sometimes people wander in
WARNINGS: Outsider often talks about or alludes to death, murder, violence etc, though he rarely goes into detail



[ You were asleep, and it almost feels like you've woken up again, but something is... strange. You get up, turn around and wherever you were sleeping is open wide to the Void.

Nothingness as far as you can see, except the strange black rock and some sort of species of whale floating in the Void, and the objects and things on the rocks.

The Void draws from the minds of who is there. Some of what is here may be random objects from this world, a hovercar or televison. But some are definitely from somewhere else - there's machines and objects and bits and pieces of architecture from the Outsider's world. Other things you may recognize from home, as the Void draws from your mind. There may even be people you know, from here or home, frozen and unmoving as if in a tableau.

While you look at something, the Outsider appears beside you in a cloud of his telltale black smoke. ]

You've found your way into the Void.

(( OOC: check here for more on how this power works. His vision power is still an option too! If you're cr, he may have pulled you in. If not, people can randomly wander in if they're sleeping the same time he is. If you have dream powers of some kind, feel free to have your character have more control over aspects of the dream, or jam with me about what that might do.))

Apparently the inside of a planet I was on one is a hollow void as well. Weird, right?

Have you been to many planets?

[ This is entirely beyond the Outsider's realm of expertise - he's already heard a little about space travel, as he's spoken to a few of the Star Warses, but that doesn't mean it's stopped being fascinating in the meantime. ]

Hundreds. I'm three and a half million years old-- not much for my species, but you do a lot of traveling in that time. Specially when your own world is dead. Go back to some planets a couple hundred thousand years later and see how they've changed. It's pretty fun, sometimes!

[you know, if he hadn't been fighting a war at the time. he leans forward, chin on his fst.]

Here I thought my own lifetime was extensive, but it seems it is a mere drop in the ocean.

[ That's unsettling to think about. He's already exhausted. ]

That was a man called Ronan Lynch. His abilities are not my own.

Aww. You a little organic baby? Maybe a couple hundred? It's alright. That's still pretty good for a species that drops dead after eighty years.

[so they both have the same powers? riptide doesn't really think much of it, this isn't as violent as last time.]

I see. What's all this, then? I'm not interested in joining a cult, if that's what this is about.

[crypdick]

I would prefer to avoid cults in this world, I've had my fair share of them in the past few thousand years.

[ His tone is rather scathing, though it's directed towards cults, not Riptide. He settled back into calm neutral. ]

You were not brought here by me, so you're free to do as you like.

[knaval]

[...

silently, riptide reaches out to poke the rock the outsider is sitting on. trying to push it to see if he can make it flip around.]

Riptide please

[crypdick]

[ The rock does flip around but at the last second the Outsider disappears into smoke and reappears on Riptide's shoulder. ]

Enjoying yourself?

no!!!

[knaval]

Sorta. This is all zero-grav?

[he doesn't seem upset by the outsider appearing on his shoulder at all. riptide stands up on the rock he'd been sitting on.]

What happens if I jump?

[crypdick]

[ The Outsider couches down, leaning to peer over the edge of Riptide's shoulder. ]

You would jump as you normally would. But if you miss and fall, you will not die.

A lot like space, then... though you don't really fall in space.

[he takes a few steps back with the outsider on his shoulder and there's no hesitation in his body language when he runs forward to leap towards one of the bigger floating rocks--!]

[only there's another part of the floating rock below it. riptide slams into it-- his top half bent over it. legs dangling again. arms straight out, fingers dug deep into the stone.]

I don't... breathe, but I think I know what being winded is like, now. Oof. Hey, weirdo? You still alive?

[crypdick]

[ When Riptide missed initially, the Outsider disappeared to a safer place, and now he reappears, standing on the stone between Riptide's arms. ]

You do not breathe?

[knaval]

I don't have lungs. I mean, what would I even breathe? Air? Don't be stupid.

[he grumbles as he pulls himself up onto the rock. this is a job. it's gonna take a while.]

[crypdick]

Letting go may be easier. As I said, you won't die.

[ The Void has unusual rules; falling would make the character respawn cause him to fall onto the rock, instead of having to climb up again. ]

Are you capable of dying regardless?

[knaval]

Huh.

[he pulls his fingers out the rock, looking at the outsider for a moment.]

It would probably be better to lie about that and say I'm indestructible. But-- nope! I'm just lucky, I guess.

[and he lets go of the rock.]

[crypdick]

Not one for the lying tongue, are you?

[ There's the slightest hint of amusement in the Outsider's voice, though he knows his companion won't get the joke. Does this creature even have a tongue?

Then Riptide lets go and he disappears, to clear the rock for Riptide's inevitable return from above. It was better not to think about the physics of the Void. ]

[knaval]

[maybe if he hadn't already died several times publicly...

anyway, riptide hollers excitedly as he falls for all of half a second before he winds up slamming into the rock once again, face first, legs and back bent almost all the way over. it looks painful. sounds pretty uncomfortable, too.]

Ohh... I have regrets...

[crypdick]

[ The Outsider appears near his head, leaning slightly to put his weight on his knees while peering at Riptide. ]

You never learned grace in all those years?

[knaval]

Okay. Rude.

[he shifts, swinging his legs down. he just ends up half hanging off the rock again. god damn it.]

Do I look like someone who's graceful? I'm front lines and transport!

[crypdick]

You're a soldier?

[ He already gave the little advice he was going to give, now he's more interested in this. ]

[knaval]

Yuh huh.

[riptide just... gives up. he's happy to stay where he is.]

MTO-- made to order. I was created during the war for it! My life expectancy was actually only like ten minutes? So I showed those idiots, ha!

A survivor, beyond all odds.

[ Is this large creature as buffoonish as he seems, or is it a persona? ]

You say you were made, but you are beyond the bounds of any natural philosophy I know.

[he seems a mite uncomfortable, though riptide did bring it up, so.]

We're a natural mechanical race. No humans were involved. Or... human looking people like you.
