Neighbours, Need to get to know each other (closed)
WHO: Sora, Riku, Kairi and their next-door neighbour 'Ven'
WHERE: Maurtia Falls 007 and 006
WHEN: Sometime shortly after Terra's departure
WHAT: Neighbours are supposed to be there for their friends in time of crises... even when said neighbours aren't exactly who you're expecting them to be. (aka. when your canon has four boys with the same face, mistaken identity doesn't happen as often as you'd think)
WARNINGS: nope!
[When Sora learns that Terra's left, he runs the gamut of emotions at first. Sadness, regret, disappointment... because he'd only just met him and there had been so much left that he'd wanted to learn from the older Keyblade wielder, so much they could have all done and now that's come to nothing and Terra's gone back to whatever fate awaits him and that leads to another emotion that strikes him: fear.
No one knows where Terra is in their now. What does that mean for him? What has he gone back to?
But after a little while, Sora (being Sora) starts to worry about the friend Terra had mentioned who'd been brought to Maurtia Falls with him, the friend that he and his friends haven't met with, the friend who's probably suffering the most at the loss of his best friend and they haven't even been round to check on him to see if he's okay.
Well Sora's not about to stand for that. Ventus is going to need friends and Sora is determined to be there for him.
Which... is why the normally tidy kitchen in Maurtia Falls 007 (and Sora himself) is covered in flour and cocoa powder and smears of chocolatey batter as he's set to work baking brownies and then when the others get home, they can take them round to Ventus, introduce themselves and set to work on making him feel better.]

She walks in the door, takes notice of the mess, and after a moment, sighs. Though her expression isn't sad, she's actually just smiling and trying not to laugh at him now. He looks ridiculous. Sure, they're going to have to clean this (and him) up, but at least it's funny to look at for now. ]
Sora, really? [ Moving her eyes to his forehead in particular, before laughing again and putting a hand to her mouth. ] How'd you get it on your forehead?
no subject
[Sora’s face lights up as usual when he sees Kairi, but when she points out that he’s made a mess of himself, his hand flies to his forehead - the wrong side of his forehead- and tries to swipe the chocolates goop off his face. He looks at his hand in bafflement when it comes away clean. Could she be teasing him?]
Did I get it all?
no subject
She giggles, shaking her head. ]
Nope. You didn't even touch it. Other side, silly.
[ Not teasing him, for once. ]
no subject
[He swipes his hand all across his forehead which doesn’t exactly get it all off. In fact, it smears it all over. That’s better, right?]
Okay, how about now?
no subject
She laughs again, shaking her head and finally approaching him, grabbing a paper towel on the way. ]
Here. Just let me get it.
[ And she reaches up to wipe it off his forehead. He only made it worse, so it looks like she can't trust him to get some simple chocolate off his own forehead. Not that she's annoyed — she just thinks it's endearing and funny. She thought for a second she may as well just leave it and let him figure it out later when he looks in a mirror, but knowing him, he'll end up getting this chocolate from his forehead onto everything else. ]

Thanks Kairi, you’re the best.
[If he hadn’t licked the bowl clean already, this would be the part where he’d boop her on the nose with brownie mix.]
I’m glad you’re home, we’ve got a mission to pull off if you wanna help me out.
[That’s a determined grin on his face Kairi, be afraid.]
no subject
But she's curious about that last part, so she pulls away once she's finished wiping his forehead. ]
Of course I do! What is it?
no subject
[He knows she’ll feel the same, Kairi’s got one of the kindest hearts he knows after all.]
And it’s really bad we haven’t been over to say hello yet when we’ve been here all this time.
no subject
Mmmmmmm.
She zones out thinking about all this for a few seconds, before snapping out of it. Try not to be too obvious, Kairi. ]
—O-Oh! Yeah, you're right. We haven't have we ...
no subject
So we should probably do that then! Just as soon as these brownies get done. I know Terra said he wasn't up for visitors, but no one wants to be alone when they're sad, and he's not. Even if we're strangers now, that doesn't mean we can't all be friends, and we're here for him.
[He grins and starts scooping up the dirty bowls to carry them over to the sink. There's a huge mound of soap bubbles there waiting and when he plonks the dishes, the bubbles go floating off everywhere.
Some happen to land in his hair.]
And don't worry about the mess in here, I'm totally gonna clean it all up. You'll never know I was here.
no subject
But at least for now, she can deal with what's right in front of her.
She smiles softly. ]
Yeah. We could all be friends.
[ No argument from her, and she can never refuse the way he thinks. She thinks the same way.
But here, some teasing. ]
Are you sure? It's pretty hard to forget you're here.
no subject
Well that's the plan! It would be pretty lousy if you forgot who I am again, you'd have to spend all your spare time making it up to me...
no subject
It honestly just gets her to frown herself, before she moves up close to him, leaning her head on his shoulder. ]
That won't happen again, promise. [ She spends a moment lingering there against his shoulder, before she perks up again, moving to pick up anything dirty that he's missed and getting set up to clean them so this can get done easier. Her tone is light, though, and she's smiling again. ] Here, let me help. You've never been good at cleaning.
[ She remembers what your room looked like as a kid, buddy. And the way you've treated their house here thus far. ]
no subject
It's nice when Kairi leans on him, and he reacts by instinctively kissing the top of her head.]
I know.
[He smiles gently and brushes his nose against hers, pressing their foreheads together. Perhaps it's too soon to tease about that time, he doesn't mean to upset her.]
You don't have to help, I made the mess, I should clean up. But if you want to... I wouldn't mind the help.
no subject
Well, I want to. We'll never be able to carry out your mission if I leave the cleaning up to you.
[ Teasing him is an easy way to bring this back to normalcy. As nervous as she is about going over next door and Roxas being there, she can't deny Sora's good intentions and she can't very well try to stop him or even hinder him at all. ]
no subject
The pair find themselves on their neighbours’ doorstep and with a big, friendly smile and Kairi by his side, Sora knocks on the door and waits for Ventus to open up.]
no subject
It only occurs to him to wonder why anyone is knocking when he's halfway there, but it's no big deal. Maybe it's a new housemate or a food delivery person with the wrong address. He opens the door and takes in who his visitors are for a second or so.
Roxas closes the door.
A few moments later, he opens the door again, and this time his eyes are brighter, more alert, and he gives Kairi an annoyed look.]
You couldn't have given me a heads-up?!
screams i'm dumb and forgot to track this thread so i would know when you resPONDED
She looks a bit embarrassed, trying to smile but also looking apologetic. ]
Um ... Hey, Roxas. Sorry. I didn't really think to ...
