[ It's really not the right sentence for that sudden childhood nickname that throws her off. Leaves her staring at the word in the air. When no one has called her anything other than her name in so long that it's impossible to miss. When Diego is the very last person she'd expect to suddenly call her anything other than her name. Razor blade thin and as a jab.

Not quite-gentle pointedness, telling her she couldn't run away.

Maybe it's why it's easier to continue on. Distant, easy macabre.
The like of which hasn't passed her lips in decades either. ]

I'm thinking either the throat or the heart. Bloody, but effective.
No need to spend my time waiting around on a death rattle.

[She doesn't even comment on it and, honestly, he's glad. Because he doesn't remember the last time he actually called her that, and he has no idea why it happened now. Any possible question thrown at him about it would not have been answered well.

Much easier to talk about her potentially murdering him if the case came to be necessary.]

Throat? Brutal.
I like it.

No bones in the way.

Less trying to aim for the right place to nick, too.

[ There's a blasΓ©ness to it of someone just reiterating an easy fact. A recitation of the given.

It works so long as she holds tight to not letting it come back. Gasping for air. Blood everywhere.
The surprise at just easy all of her skin, and all of her air, and all of her blood.]

You've always been more practical than I have been.

[The only way to really get through traumas is to ignore them or make them into jokes if you're a Hargreeves. Properly dealing with or facing them is completely out of the question, always.]

[ It's the only way any of them do, any of them can, isn't it?
It's not like she has a therapist to make her talk about it.

Would she have even?

Did she want to?

Did she actually miss it?

There was a strange silence in her as she paused, trying to decipher the strangeness of that thought. The uncertain quesy feeling everywhere in her that wasn't just the glaring anger and annoyance at the original requirement. At every noise or word from her court-mandated devil. Who had appeared everywhere during the dream attacks. After another uncertain second, she reached up and brushed some of her hair behind an ear and used words that were easier to find blind than the sudden confusion it'd caused. ]

Nice of you to remember that every once in a while.

Who says I don't always remember it and simply choose to ignore it 99.99% of the time?

Or want fewer instances of proof to use against your lack of it.

It might also be that. Possibly.
