a revolving door of screaming
WHO: Darin, Lucina
WHERE: Darin's workshop
WHEN: Late Apr/early May/time isn't real it's rp
WHAT: a sword, a port-out, a grown-ass anime man yeeting things through a ceiling
WARNINGS: two idiots, but nothing horrible beyond anime
[today's the day! Lucina got the simple message from Darin barely an hour ago, and she was out the door like a shot. it's time. finally time! Falchion's refashioned hilt...one made just for her...it's as exciting as it is scary!
she still can't comprehend the idea of a Falchion feeling any different in her hands than it always had, but Darin's all but guaranteed that this change would unlock power she didn't know she was withholding. and if that's the case, it can't come at a better time. she's going to be a greater help, dammit.]
Darin!
[she calls, already halfway through the door, shrugging her light jacket off and setting it on the nearest bench.]
Is it really ready? Where is it!

Darin!

Is it really ready? Where is it!

[Part of him wants to play dumb. 'What's ready? What are you talking about?' But Lucina had been through so much the last few months, he couldn't bring himself to frustrate her. So, without further ado, he drops his feet to the floor and reaches behind the bench he'd been leaning on. He retrieves a large case and brings it up onto the bench with a loud thud and a smile, then flips the latches to open it. Inside, resting inside a lining of blue crushed velvet, was the new Falchion in a brand new, Darin-designed, custom sheathe. After all, the old scabbard wouldn't fit the new guard any longer.]
[Yes, Darin made a case specifically for this moment.]
[He lifts the sheathed blade from the case and holds it up to her, reverently. The new hilt catches the light of the forge and it practically radiates warmth, the twin butterfly wings polished to a mirror shine. The metal seemed so delicate at first glance, like the guard of a fencing foil, but upon taking it in her hands, she'll realize it's far sturdier than it looks, matching its owner to the letter. He's not going to draw the sword. That moment belongs to the wielder and the wielder alone. But he does grin in anticipation all the same.]
Lucina, my friend. I present to you the fruits of your labor. I present to you the new, properly balanced, Falchion.
no subject
Oh...Oh, wow...
[awestruck, Lucina watches the way light catches off the metal guard, barely thinking to touch anything until Darin gestures with it for her to take. she lets out a soft, surprised sound that ends in a nervous kind of giggle.]
Oh gods it is light, just as you said it would be...! It looks like, like a museum piece...!
[her heart clenches, both joyful and somehow sorrowful. gods, if only Owain could see this! if only her father could...!]
no subject
[She'll find the blade itself is polished to a mirror shine. In fact, with the way the metal is treated combined with the new hilt and guard, it looks as though Falchion were just forged instead of being passed down for however many centuries.]
With this, I can officially and definitively say, Falchion is one hundred percent yours now.
...And I have to say, I'm honored to have had the opportunity to work on something so special.

she carefully tilts the blade this way and that in the light, her face flushing with the mix of emotions welling up inside her. like the blade, she's practically glowing.
(she kind of is. slightly. that's weird.)]
Darin, it's incredible! I almost can't believe it, but...
no subject
[But the fact that she's just so over the moon about it brings a kind of warm glow to Darin as well. He couldn't be prouder of the work they had done together, and seeing Lucina so happy with herself.]
It's definitely real. And I bet you're dying to give it a test, to see how strong you've actually gotten.
Am I right?
no subject
[that glow becomes a fade?
BLIP.]
1/2
[Darin rubs at his eyes.]
...Lu?
Lucina??
2/2
[The more he thinks on it, the more his heart sinks. He'd never seen it happen in person before but...there was only one thing that could have happened.]
[Lucina had gone back home to her world. She was ported out right before his very eyes.]
[Finally, Darin takes a seat on the stool he had been sitting at when Lucina had entered. He's having some mixed feelings for sure. Did upgrading Falchion cause her to port out? If so, why would it? Wouldn't she lose all memories of being here? Wouldn't Falchion revert back to its original state?]
[Is this somehow his fault? In changing Falchion, did they stray too far from what Lucina was meant to do? Was this some cosmic or Porter inspired way of correcting what they had changed??]
[That couldn't be it, right? If so, how close were any of them from porting out? Any form of personal growth could lead to them just...vanishing.]
[Darin felt a pang in his heart. Lucina had been so...happy. He'd never seen her beaming like that before and, for once, he felt like he'd truly been of use to her. Like he'd finally done some good for her. And now, potentially because of that good, she was returned to a world of war.]
[...She wouldn't even remember him.]
[With a sigh, he buries his face in his hands, feeling a lump start to form in his throat.]
...Go get 'em, Lu. Show those demons in your world how strong I know you are...
TWO DAYS LATER!
[she's still smiling, energized and ready to go! back in the same place she'd vanished, holding the new and improved Falchion just as before.
she has no idea the stress she's caused or time she's missed at all!!!!!!!!!!!! no demons were slain!!]
no subject
[He'd taken the case he had stored Falchion in and was just about to lock it up in storage. Out of sight out of mind. But then, Lucina literally popped back into existence behind him.]
[Have you ever been so startled that your body just sort of reacts outrageously? That you can't form words or coherent thoughts? This is what happens here. The second Lucina's excited voice pops into reality behind him, Darin screams. And not only does he scream, he pivots and pitches the case he was so reverently holding, like a pallbearer, through the reinforced roof of his forge like a missile. A second later, there's an audible boom as the case breaks the sound barrier and, potentially, the atmosphere.]
[Then he turns to Lucina and just continues screaming.]
[Maybe he'll stop soon.]
[... ... ...]
[Nope, still screaming.]

WHAT'S GOING ON-?! DARIN???
no subject
TWO!!!
[More wild gestures.]
TWO DAYS!!!!!
[Dem arms ain't stoppin']
no subject
and now the arms. she recoils, mouth curled in a grimace.]
Two-two days? Darin! I, I have no idea what you're talking about! Two days for what! [Falchion needs to be set down on the bench for now so she can take a stab at grabbing these ridiculous arms.] STOP YELLING THIS INSTANT!
no subject
I GAVE YOU THE SWORD AND YOU POOFED!!
[She's managing to grabs a hold of those arms and, well this might come as a shock to the both of them but, she's managing to halt his flailing. Despite the fact that he doesn't seem to be holding back much of his strength.]
YOU WERE GONE AND THEN YOU JUST APPEARED AND I SWEAR TO THE GODS YOU BETTER NOT BE A GHOST HERE TO HAUNT ME!!!
no subject
aggravated, she reaches over and pinches his nose with her free hand.]
DO GHOSTS DO THIS?! I said STOP YELLING AT ME!
no subject
POLTERGEIST!!! NOSE!! GONNA TEAR OFF!!! I NEED THAT TO SMELL THE ROSES!!!! NYAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
no subject
Stop it! Stop it right this instant! Darin! [glaring.
a huff.]
It's me. It's Lucina! Calm down so you can explain yourself properly! Alright?
[because she sure as hell isn't going to let this screamfest continue; the outside world will hear of this!]
no subject
[You asked for this.]
no subject
no subject
Just.
Just nod once if you agree. To stop yelling?
no subject
[...Nod]
no subject
Now... [hand...removed.] Take a breath. Calm down, please?
no subject
[INHALE]
... ... ...
[...WELL? ARE YOU JUST GOING TO STAND THERE?? NO RESPONSE?]
no subject
[huh.
give her a second to parse through that; she's not German enough for a massive, compound word!]
...Vanished? Darin, what are you talking about? We were in the middle of a conversation and you just started screaming bloody murder.
no subject
We were in the middle of a conversation, you started to glow when you drew Falchion, and then you vanished!
You ported out! It's been two days since then!
