[ Finally, 622's words bring Akobi's smile back, even if it is more a performative smile than a genuine one. He finishes his cup of caf, tucking his file back into an inner pocket. ]

That's the spirit. We need to live in the moment and not think about what will or will not come after. [ Emphasis on the will not. Akobi isn't sure how well he'll be able to take that sentiment to heart-- he can already foresee a few sleepless nights in his future, contemplating the end of everything he knows and holds dear-- but he'll give it a try. For 622's sake. ]

Where've they got you put up? I don't want to be too far from you.

[He couldn't put things back the way they were. But Akobi was here, and that was the important part. They had at least a little more time.] Yes sir. We can still do good here.

[The last of his tea was cold by now, but he drank it, to see if it would help calm down his stomach.] De Chima 004. There's a vacant room there, sir, if you want to put in a transfer request.

No, that's not necessary. [ because then Chris would have to play two characters in the same house ] They've put me in De Chima 007. I assume the hab blocks are situated somewhat logically, meaning we'll be only a few units apart. That's close enough. I don't want to intrude on what you've set up for yourself.

[He frowns. Any protestations about his own situation can wait.] That's one away from the impostor and his guard, sir, if they're still in 008. He has a history of violent behavior. [It was hard for him to parse out the situation, but a fair portion of it hadn't sounded justified. Definitely what he'd done to Green.]

I'll be careful. If he makes a move, I'll be sure to request a transfer.

[ Though, given that "power" of his, he might just be courting disaster.

The waitress comes by to ask if they'd like refills, and Akobi waves a hand, speaking for the both of them as he is wont to do. ] No, I believe we're finishing up here. Just the bill, please.

[He sat silently for a moment, still trying to... well, come to grips with the fact that this was happening.]

Sir, I know things haven't gone the way they should. But I'm glad you're here. [Akobi had deserved better than what had happened to him. Maybe here, on this foreign planet, he could have that. And whatever that meant for him, 622 would do his best to make happened.]

[ Akobi stands up, fetching his wallet to pay and placing a strong hand on 622's shoulder. ]

I'm sorry you had to wait so long for me to arrive. But I'm here now. We can get to fixing things.

Yes sir.

[He's become a little more expressive here on Earth, despite his best efforts. He could tell, because there'd been a detectable shift in his demeanor when he saw Akobi. Now he was back to feeling a little more like himself. And that meant the small hint of a smile on his face was deeply felt and genuine.]

Whatever you need, I'll be there to help.

[ Akobi is glad to see even the small smile, because he knows 622 and knows that that small smile means a hell of a lot more than it would on anyone else.

Once the waitress comes back and he pays-- steadfastly refusing to be comped their drinks-- Akobi gestures for 622 to walk with him. ]
