r u gonna be ok
[ That's the most he gets and it's only because he's being a little baby about the fact that they're discussing it at all. Scott's arrival is basically like "mom's home, you're in trouble now." She's not sorry, either. Lydia Martin waits for no man. X( dealwithit.gif ]
soothes
The question's less urgent, this time. There's a short pause, almost like he's afraid to ask. ] It isn't something dangerous, is it?
[ Wait, what even counts as a superpower. He's still a werewolf, is that a superpower?? Flying? Shooting lasers from your eyes? Cue the more urgent follow-up: ] Is it something dangerous?
no subject
[,small> anyway, stiles interjects immediately before lydia or derek can field it and bring this pizza party down even further. ]
No!
[ because it's not! mostly because he's sort of unconsciously capable of directing himself not to teleport into things (his spacial awareness has also increased 500% since turning up, but that's a sidenote and probably unimportant, right?) ]
Sometimes I randomly teleport. It'll be fine once I get it under control.
no subject
And up until then, we just run the risk of having to retrieve you from awkward places.
[ just be grateful derek isn't being more melodramatic about it. though really, he's trusting lydia to handle the melodrama. ]
no subject
[ Here to help. :) ]
no subject
[ Just oh. Stiles can teleport. No idea what the proper response to that is, assuming there even is one. Scott would normally find the revelation pretty awesome, actually, but then Lydia cuts in with the worst-case scenarios. ]
How do you? Control it, I mean. You know how, right? You just need to practice?
[ DO YOU NEED AN ANCHOR BUDDY. ]
no subject
I'm not gonna teleport into a rock face. Don't ask me how I know, I just — know, where stuff is.
[ even his tiny handful of accidental teleports he's been able to come out the other side somewhere safe. ]
That's about all I know, though. I can't do it voluntarily.
[ don't even think about tying him up and lobbing lacrosse balls at him tho. ]
no subject
[ it's accusing, though it wasn't like that had been the most level-headed and open conversation. ]
He needs someone to help him learn to control it.
[ easier said than done. ]
no subject
I don't suppose you've met any teleporters.
[ Because they sure as fuck haven't. She doesn't really expect Scott to know anyone, but she likes to cynically point out the hopelessness of the situation. It makes her feel better. ]
no subject
You're totally Batman.
[ ... as in you have superpowers. Which isn't even accurate, since Batman doesn't have superpowers, but an attempt is being made. ]
no subject
[ if anything, derek's batman, he's got that whole brooding vigilante of the night thing going on. ]
But I could be Nightcrawler.
[ he grins, mirroring scott's smile and just choosing to ignore lydia and derek. it's so nice having his bff instead of these two debbie downers tbh. ]
no subject
derek just looks irritated, a throwback to when he'd first met them and stiles and scott were an unending, baffling, frustrating entity. however, unlike season one, derek now has lydia, who he just looks at like can you believe this shit?
fuck pop culture references, derek's going to debbie downer the hell out of this. ]
So long as being Nightcrawler means you know what you're doing.
no subject
[ Not that she doesn't agree with Derek, but rather she has to at least acknowledge that 85% of the time, they have no idea what they're doing. In fact, as a general rule, it's better to assume that they're flying by the seats of their pants. That's even true for Stiles and Lydia, who arguably have a tendency to have 10% more of an idea of what they're doing. ]
no subject
It's okay. He can handle it.
[ Casual vote of confidence, 500% sincere. ]
no subject
[ much pointed, very glare. stiles has got this, okay you guys? he's got this. and if he don't got this, that isn't something he's going to admit to the doubters in the middle of a pizza restaurant. ]
Now can we order already? Shhheesh.
no subject
You can order. [ as if the end of the business section of the evening ending means derek's overstayed his welcome. or he thinks he has, anyway. ] I should get going.
[ attempt to vanish into the night part two. ]
no subject
And then she sees the discomfort in his face, that look like he's just slightly out of place amongst them. That's not something she can quite begrudge him.
Thinking twice on it, she bites her tongue a moment, then loosens her grip and pulls her hand back with more practiced care. She tilts her head slightly in the closest thing she'll offer to acknowledging that instinct. Her lips press together as she releases him and sits back in the booth. ]
Fine. We'll catch up with you later.
[ An awkward beat later, she looks to Scott and Stiles like she's ready to ask them food questions, but she deflates slightly and opts to ... glance down at her menu instead. ]
no subject
He's not entirely what to make of it. There's a brief glance between her and Stiles, an awkward beat on his end, and then he recovers by focusing on Derek. ]
Yeah. [ Slightly absent. He doesn't necessarily want Derek to bail, but begging him to stay and have dinner with a bunch of kids is kind of pushing it. But there's getting it and then there's still Worrying, so: ] Do you want us to bring you something?
[ Blatantly assuming Derek a) just doesn't want to be near people and b) can't feed himself. Which, to be fair, Scott's mom was never particularly good at feeding herself, so maybe it's just training. ]
no subject
You can't actually have anywhere better to be.
[ he tells derek pointedly. he's never really got the whole "pack" thing, but they're definitely friends now. like, he doesn't even have to be insecure about it, there's friendship. but maybe derek missed that memo. ]
Don't you at least wanna eat before disappearing into the night?
no subject
regardless of how out of place he feels, he can't quite bring himself to leave knowing that. his expression turns begrudging as she takes her hand back, derek lifting his head to look between scott and stiles respectively. ]
You have no idea if I do. I could have somewhere to go. [ he doesn't, but that doesn't stop derek's tone from turning withering. ] I might.
[ there's a pause. derek's clearly hesitating, like he's rethinking his decision already, but-- ]
I thought the three of you would want to catch up.
no subject
[ The correction is clear, if slightly evasive courtesy of the way she continues to browse her menu. She pops one shoulder in a shrug, canting her head to the side to acknowledge. ]
The four of us are.
[ Because if he thinks he’s not one of them, he’s wrong. ]
