Lightsaber Umbrella [Closed]

WHO: Grievous & the Penguin
WHERE: Nonah
WHEN: This week
WHAT: Meeting and combat training (possibly) with General Grievous & Oswald Cobblepot
WARNINGS: n/a

Once a time and place had been arranged, Grievous traveled to Nonah to meet with Oswald. He had not visited this particular city before and so did glance around curiously once he arrived. But that was the extent of his interest. His focus was getting to the meeting place on time. He wanted to make a good impression since clients had been unfortunately rare.

His appearance did draw some fearful stares but he paid them little attention. Most knew he was an imPort and left him alone. He had a large bag slung across his back. It clacked as he walked along, full of various weapons. Oswald had mentioned an umbrella but Grievous was uncertain what use that would be. Still, it was pointless to teach someone to fight with something they already could handle well enough. Perhaps his client would like to try something different - and so the cyborg had brought some variety with him.

As he strode into view of the appointed place, there was no lightsaber in sight as it was hidden and tucked away neatly in its pocket under his red and grey cloak. It was the only clothing that he was wearing, as anything else would hinder his metallic frame. Even the cloak usually came off in a fight.

"Greetings," he began when he spotted Oswald at last. "Are you ready to begin?"

Oswald had found a building that wasn't quite on the 'abandoned' end, but secluded enough from most foot traffic that anything they did there wasn't going to be gawked at by bystanders. All across the rooftops around the place were birds of various sorts roosting quietly. Many of them natural enemies but apparently ignoring that part while they preened each other and generally hung out in peace.

Oswald, himself, left a very bird-like impression as he walked forward with a limping gait that resembled a bit of a waddle. He was holding his umbrella over his shoulder with his left hand and reaching forward to shake one of Grevious' with his right, "Good day to you, as well. Thank you for coming. And I suppose I'm as ready as I'll ever be."

He glanced at the bag, "What did you bring?"

Oswald, standing at 5'6", but looking a bit shorter due to a hunch that had formed from using a cane, was not at all bothered by the height of his new friend. Sure, he was a full head taller than most of the tallest people Os knew, but if he'd been intimidated by everyone that towered over him, he'd never have gotten anywhere.

He glances at the weapons laid out and then brought his umbrella down off his shoulder, switching it to his right hand, "I want to try this."

He held it out for Grievous to take and get a feel for. It was longer than a standard umbrella, having been made with the clear intention to use as a proper cane, with a stylized penguin head in sliver as it's handle. It was otherwise a normal, plain black umbrella.

Oswald looked the man over, leaning in as he set the umbrella tip-down to use it for support. With a frown, he squinted, "I don't suppose you have any vitals I could shove it through? A throat to stick it in? A fleshy part of the shoulder or back to beat on and cause severe pain?"

"You said show you what I can do with it," Oswald shrugged. "Those are things I know I can use it for, but I don't really have a target, do I?"

He paused for a second, then twisted the handle and pulled the short knife hidden inside out for inspection,"Well, all that, and this, too. But I'm already well versed in blades like this one. I want to master something a little more non-traditional."

Os shook his head and put the concealed blade back in place before lifting the umbrella once more to his shoulder, "No. This is supposedly my 'super power'. Though it came with no notes as to how it would work, just that it was mine. So... I want to learn to use it. See if there's any other hidden surprises about it. Right now, I know of only two. The blade and the canopy being bulletproof. I want to know if there are more."

Since the other man seemed to be insistent that Oswald try something else, he figured it would be best to be completely honest about why he was so insistent on training with the umbrella. It was important.

Oswald eyed the short sword. He could probably dodge it. Maybe. He wasn't used to longer blades like that in a fight. Still...

Firming up his grip on the umbrella, he swung it hard like he would a bat, aiming for a shoulder. He wasn't very well practiced at 'sparing' so he'd probably have to get the hang of that, too. The whole not going in for the kill except for when trying to torture part anyway.

Oswald didn't like his attack being deflected so easily, even if it was entirely understandable what with him going after a weapons master. Grumbling, he re-affirmed his grip and swung for the legs.

Maybe he could take out a kneecap?

At least the man didn't try to block it. Even if it did absolutely nothing to him. Oswald swung back with all his might, frustrated that he was getting no where, and brought it back down, this time across the hips. It felt heavier in his hands for some reason, weightier. Like it was a solid piece of steel.

Probably his imagination. But it felt good to think of it like that.

"Inflame you," he muttered under his breath, stepping back a pace and glaring at his opponent. He didn't move while he assessed the man the way others might. He didn't need to pace around to get a good overview. Considering this man wasn't human, however, he didn't have much to go on for what might actually get through.

Working himself up into an angry fit, he pointed his umbrella at Grievous, snapping at him, "This is supposed to be you trying to show me how to use this! Not just standing there and- and mocking me!"

He sucked in a deep breath and in the next instant a bright plume of fire burst forth from the end of his umbrella. The sudden force of it and the entirely unexpected form of attack elicited an entirely penguin-like squawk from Oswald as he fell backwards onto his ass. The umbrella and it's flame waving wildly with his flailing before finally going out as he dropped it and stared at it in shock.

Whatever anger Oswald had been stoking was completely gone as he scooted himself into a sitting position, his bad leg stretched out before him. He shook his head 'no' and just kept staring at the umbrella as it lay there, mere inches away, waiting for him to pick it up again.

"No. I... I didn't even know it had the capacity. There's no tank for the gas it would have to carry to do that and no obvious trigger buttons. I think I clicked something on the handle right before it started doing... that. But..."

He reached over and pulled it to him, inspecting the penguin head, "No... no. Nothing there. Nothing's seemed to have changed about it."

He'd just been mad at the apparent mockery and thoughts of 'inflaming' his foe had flickered through his head for a brief moment.

Os wanted to study the umbrella, but he first had to stand up. He didn't like having to do this in front of those who didn't know him, as it was an awkward affair with his leg the way it was. But he once he'd managed to do so, he held his umbrella in both hands and looked it over.

He opened the canopy, examining it as he closed it and opened it again.

"Maybe it's a bit of both?" It came out as a question, but was more him talking to himself. "It's my superpower, so it might be me, but... only with this specific umbrella? I'd have to get another to test it."

Oswald spun the umbrella in his hands and held it like a shotgun. He focused, wanting it to be a shotgun. It didn't change appearances, but when he pulled on the closed canopy, it clicked loudly, ready to be fired.

"Oh my..." Os grinned, aiming it at the wall. He reflexively squeezed the canopy release like he would a trigger and - BAM! Shotgun fire.

"Oh my!"

"I didn't know it could do that," he said, shaking his head in awe as he studied the umbrella. It didn't look any different. It still looked exactly like a normal umbrella, if a bit large. That was it.

"I found out it could block bullets when someone pulled a gun on me about a week before I contacted you. When you offered lessons, I had hoped it might prove to be something... more. But this is beyond expectations."

Oswald grinned and hobbled over to Grievous, patting one of his arms, "Thank you for this opportunity. Truly. Perhaps you should show me some of that sword work? Clearly, the umbrella can hold up to the damage."

"I was thinking the short sword, but..." Now he's curious. "Why not try it?"
