GENERAL CAFÉ
[ :Re café is a small coffee shop lost in some dark corner of Nonah; it's known for several different things: it opens at weird hours, the whole place is full of trinkets, it has many many TOO MANY books which patrons can read and trade, it’s specialized in coffee and Japanese food, and finally the owner is a nonhuman Ghoul who provides “exotic foods” to imPorts (Read: it provides blood and human flesh).
The trinkets are part of the shop's charm, in a way. A lot of clients leave items there, from butterfly collections to weird statues, and they are often very happy to have their trinket on display. Sometimes, though, Kaneki can be found switching the items, placing old ones in boxes, and overall just looking around trying to make sense of the decoration. Maybe you have new items to give, maybe you want to give a hand when tidying up the place, but if for whatever reason you approach Kaneki, you might hear him say to himself "We really need a garage sale."
Apart from the trinkets there are, of course, BOOKS. Many of them, spread all around the coffee shop. Even near the tables there are small baskets that people can go through to grab a book and read while they are drinking their coffee. Books are for trade (not all, some are Kaneki's private collection): leave a book and take one. Or just drop books you no longer want. And of course, if there is a book in particular you might be interested in, you might find it there, just ask someone - be careful though, the owner can ramble about books for hours.
The coffee shop itself doesn't have a set theme - urban museum book café theme, maybe? - but the food is specifically Japanese. The shop specializes in Japanese food, specifically pastries and sweets, with some more common western sweets in the mix, all home-made and cooked by the owner during the morning/afternoon. While there isn't a huge variety of items to offer, the menu changes everyday, allowing the clients to try new things through the week. : re also offers a variety of hot, cold and iced drinks, heavily focusing on coffee, and they even have latte and foam art available. Veronica's slushies have become quite popular as well, so give those a try too.
If you spend enough time there, beware of your own words! While most won't mind it, if D33 catches you cursing, you better have some change for the swear-jar. No, it's not a joke. He will demand you to put some money there and will want you to learn not to be rude while at the coffee shop. Hopefully patrons won't be too angry about that, but if something trouble arises, both Kaneki can handle it with ease.
While the coffee shop isn't popular (it's usually quiet), sometimes there groups of people coming in, often imPort fans that want to take some pictures and try out imPort foods and often high school girls who are part of Kaneki's fangroup, the Kennibals, who want to update their website with thing things about their favorite hero; they are usually pretty girl, somewhat overbearing and loud. If they are too much, just let a waiter know. ]
PRIVATE AREA (cw: cannibalism, vampirism, blood, etc)
[ The shop isn't known only for its books, coffee and food: it's known because the owner provides unusual foods and special diets to IMPORTS ONLY. In other words, vampires, cannibals and alike can easily find a place to eat. Kaneki holds the right to ask any imPort for their file as proof that they require these special diets in order to survive/use their powers, since by law he can't provide it to those who don't need it; but worry not, he won't bite.
The door to this private area has an electronic lock and the combination is given to clients who need to use it; regulars can certainly go in without any fuss and Kaneki will soon meet them there to take their order. If a new imPort wants to go in, just talk to one of the two and they will be granted the combination to go inside. Anyone else who just wants to be nosey? Well, good luck trying to get past Ken; he isn’t going to let you in so easily.
It doesn't mean you can’t try. Even natives do. From time to time, there is always someone who tries to go in and force the door open in vain, or ask the staff if they can give them a cup of blood with a sidedish of human flesh. Some are just being assholes (after all, not everyone is so willing to accept what goes on here), other are very set on this and aren't joking at all. People can be really weird, after all. ]
RENOVATIONS AND NEW ADDITIONS
[ Recently, most of :Re Café’s staff was Ported-out, thus leaving Kaneki, D33 and Veronica to scramble around while trying to make sure the place runs smoothly. However, some people were willing to give a hand, either as full time or part time, so you might see new faces around! The fans are delighted, and they’ll certainly try to talk to every new face around the coffee shop.
Along with the new faces, there is also a small poster, letting all patrons know that :Re Café will be at the FanPort this year, with their Japanese sweets and food, along with delicious coffee. There is a small note saying they will also be trading novel-books there, and selling some trinkets from the coffee shop, which is a way Kaneki found to get rid of old things and trade old books for different ones.
Around the 7th of September, a new notice will pop up to let everyone know renovations will be starting soon at the coffee shop from the 12th September onwards. At the beginning of the month, and after talking to too many people, Kaneki finally bought the second floor of the building and will be now building another new area for the coffee shop, with a small outside garden area. There are a lot of plans, which Kaneki has to approve before leaving to Mars, so clients and employees will see a lot of people coming in and out of the coffee shop to ask Kaneki to sign paperwork, to have a look at the space, and to even show blueprints of what will be done.
Certainly Kaneki looks a bit stressed, so during quiet times, you’ll find him reading contracts and trying to understand the what he should be doing next (which isn’t as easy as he thought it’d be actually), while sighing a little nervously.
From 10th onward, the owner of the coffee shop won’t be around anymore. He will be going to Mars, and therefor D33 and Veronica (the oldest staff) will be in charge. Pastries and cakes and Japanese food will be bought from reliable bakers and cuisines to make sure the quality of the products will not divert, but the employees who want to have a go at cooking and see what the public thinks of their food certainly can try. The Private Area of the coffee shop will be closed. ]

Kaneki | OTA
[ Kaneki realizes he made a mistake. He should have never decided to start renovations on the second floor so soon. He should have done it AFTER heading to Mars. The problem is that he doesn't really know what will happen in Mars, and the idea that things won't be ready and he'd leave his husband to deal with all of that didn't sit well with Kaneki.
because of that, he is swarmed with papers he has to read and sign, make decisions on the furniture, paint jobs, colors, plants, even what kind of glass windows should he use - anyone passing by the table at the corner can see Kaneki trying to decide what shades of green look better, but quickly coming to the conclusion green won't even fit. With a small frustrated sigh, he pushes the color pallet aside and frowns.
He should have hired a designer, that's what. ]
2. Teaching
[ when he has time, Kaneki will be teaching the new staff not just how the coffee shop works, but also how to cook, brew coffee and make late art. Whoever is interested in these lessons will have some patrons staring, though - :Re Café's kitchen isn't particularly big and it's easier to make it on the counter. They are very excited, though, ready to see Kaneki do ~his magic~
However, he never tastes anything, except for black coffee he brews, and instead he will always turn to closest person and ask ] Can you have a taste? What do you think? [ usually D33 is Kaneki's official taster, but today, it'll be Kaneki's students. ]
3. Dinner time
[ Because the coffee shop is open from 7pm to 2am, it means that whoever is doing full time will get a break for dinner or late supper. And guess what, Kaneki will be making food for everyone. Now that the staff is bigger once again, he can make bigger dishes and this time he decided to go with Yosenabe, a type of japanese hot pot with seafood, meat, tofu products and vegetables. Whoever wants to try a traditional japanese dish, certainly can, and because today it's very quiet and there are no more clients around, Kaneki will bring the food so all of them can sit down at a table and eat together.
Of course Kaneki is not going to eat, but he will be sitting there nonetheless, drinking his black coffee quietly as he watches everyone enjoying their food.
Everyone is eating right now, but Kaneki will certainly get up if anyone comes into the coffee shop - since he is the only one that doesn't need to eat, he will be the one to to mind the coffee shop while everyone has their dinner - so if you come in, he will smile and immediately get up to gree the client with a small bow ]
4. Private area
[ there are no longer many cannibals or vampires around, but Kaneki will continue to provide it, just in case some are around and have not yet come forward. The private area is always quiet, and unless it's a regular client, whoever wants to have some meat or blood needs to talk to Kaneki first, to go in. Or ask an employee and see them getting awkward before Kaneki comes to rescue them.
In any case, the ghoul will greet anyone with a smile, let them into the private area (as long they have their imPort file stating that they need that sort of food) and politely node ] What can I get you?
3
...definitely not the parts involving eating people, but otherwise Japanese food, whatever that is, sounds like something he’d love to try.
The door shuts behind him, and he takes the coat off and drapes it over a chair when Kaneki comes up. Molly turns, and flashes the man a smile and a wave with his tattooed hand.]
Good evening—I hear you’ve got some, what did they call it, Japanese dishes here? I’d like to try some of your best.

Hello, welcome. [ with a bright smile, kaneki waves at a table, to invite the man to sit down ]

People say, or at least on my world - people said that Martians are green.
[She hopes it's enough to open the door if he wants to talk about his upcoming mission, and not too much that it'll upset him if he doesn't.]

D33 | OTA
[D33 has been working at the :Re Café for almost a year now, and he pretty much has everything down to a science by this point - hell, he can even make latte art (just the basic stuff, though - you're gonna get a dirty look if you start making requests). Even so, his customer service skills haven't improved all that much from when he first started.
[If you're generally polite and amicable, he will offer you a flat-faced, cold politeness in return. If you are in any way crass or contrary, though, you'll be met with nothing but the utmost contempt (that special kind of contempt that only food service workers are really capable of). Regardless of your disposition, when you approach him at the counter (or he approaches you at your table), you'll be met with a flat:] How may I help you?
Swear Jar
[There's a rule in the :Re Café, and it essentially says that swearing = tips. Hardly anyone actually enforces this "rule", but if you're unlucky enough to let something slip while D33 is working (or even when he's there and not working), it's more than likely you'll end up having the half-filled mason jar slammed down on the table in front of you. The crudely painted "Swear Jar" on the side should be pretty self explanatory.
[D33 doesn't say a word, but his expression is insistent that you pay up. Don't worry, though. If you feel like arguing, he's got nowhere else to be.]
After the 10th
[The last time the Café was left under D33's management, he didn't exactly handle the responsibility well. Kaneki had been ported out then, and he'd all but destroyed the place in his frustration. This time will be a bit better, though - he has Veronica around to help him, and he knows (hopes) that Kaneki will return eventually. Still, it's probably clear that he hasn't been sleeping very well. There are bags under his eyes and he's looking a little gaunt overall. Being that he probably hasn't slept in a couple of days, his mind is likely a little slow to operate as well. You might find him spacing out at the counter, seemingly unaware of what's going on around him, or you might find him making little mistakes - handing people bakery items without putting them on a plate, accidentally missing the cup when he's pouring your coffee (let's hope it doesn't get into your lap), or knocking over a shelf of trinkets cause he wasn't paying attention. Someone really needs to snap this guy out of it.]
After the 10th
I think you're right, D33. They wanted to be moved. This little guy.[She picks up one of the trinkets, a little figurine of a dachshund with the words, 'it's been a looong day' stamped on it. She holds it up for D33 to see.]This guy wants to watch over you. He's having a long day too apparently.
[She puts the trinket down, making sure it's facing D33.]
Now that that's done, it's time for your break. You're going to have something to eat with me. The okonomiyaki looks especially good.
[She's determined to get him to start taking better care of himself.]
Forward-dated a few days
Very...well, then. [He looks a little confused. Had they planned this before hand?] I'll make you some now. [That's not a break, D33.]

Sometimes legitimate accidents do happen. Sure, the two teacups that Quatre broke at the cafe up until this point were both caused by sudden inconvenient cases of Extreme Emotions, but even in the absense of Feelings, people can still be clumsy. Quatre's going through the network as he drinks his tea, doesn't pay attention to where he puts the cup down, and accidentally sets it down on the edge of the table. He makes a move to catch it when he realizes, but it's too late; that's three cups down thanks to Quatre Raberba Winner. He looks down at the shard with a guilty, miserable expression.]
Oh, shoot. [At least there's no need for the swear jar. He starts to stand up to ask D33 for a dustpan.]

After the 26th
He entered the building and it looked a bit like a coffee shop that had undergone a hipster revival. Or maybe all coffee shops felt like that. He didn't go into them enough to really know.
At the counter, he smiled politely at the barista, "I'd like to speak to the owner, if possible. It's about... special... orders."
As Oswald didn't usually traffic in body parts, he wasn't really sure how to go about ordering some.
no subject
When he sees Oswald approaching, he offers the man a smile and that smile continues on his lips even after the explanation of what he was here for. "I'm the owner. Ken Kaneki." he nods softly, as a polite greeting.
"We do provide special foods and diets, yes." for consumption. Naturally.
