WHO: Heropa 11 family (Ashley, Thor, Loki, and Eleanor)
WHERE: Heropa grocery store
WHEN:WHAT: grocery shopping adventures
WARNINGS: tbd
"Alright, we should split up to get everything we need." As Eleanor spoke, she was already starting to load her cart with bags of chips that were displayed near the front of the store without thinking about it.
She had never gone grocery shopping with anyone else before but she was willing to give it a try and hopefully, this trip would go better than the last time, right before she died.
She turned to her roommates with a smile- she could do this. She could work with them to accomplish something as simple as getting food and supplies for the house. At least, they were already better than her previous roommates though that wasn't exactly a high bar to clear in the first place. And aside from the shrimp incident, it was going pretty well so far so she was optimistic they could figure this out.
"So, we start at opposite ends of the store and work our way towards the middle?" she suggested. She wasn't concerned that they didn't have a list- how hard could this be?

"I'm sure I don't understand the organization of these... places." He says 'places' like it's a dirty word. He also eyes the cart like it's at fault for his being unable to lean against it haughtily.
Wheels. How quaint.
"No matter what direction we go in, the selection will likely be pitiful."

Having been on this late 2010's Earth the longest of this house, Ashley's been to the handful of supermarkets in Heropa and a few in the other Porter cities, and has enough of a grasp on the economy to realize this one's the most reasonably priced. Her hands are on the handle of the shopping cart, and with a brightening of the green light in her eyes, an orange holographic interface appears over her left forearm, and above that, a screen displaying a grocery list she took the liberty of writing: It starts off with food groups rather than food items ("meat", "snacks"), and towards the bottom of the list are more precise items like "dishwashing liquid" and "toilet paper".
"The organization's supposedly to make you buy more stuff, but everything's signposted," she points out. "But hey, if you need help, we could go together."
She remembers wrangling her little sisters on grocery shopping trips with their mom growing up. She can work with this.

"I think even you'll be able to figure it out," she answered Loki before looking at Ashley. She had to admit that hologram thing was pretty cool- why couldn't she have gotten a cool power like that? Forking ridiculous is what it was.
"Alright, you want to take his royal whininess and start on one side? I'll meet you in the middle," she suggested. Ok, sure she happened to like Thor (and his muscles) more but not like she would admit that. "I'll get the booze, you can count on me." Alcohol was an important food group.

He knows that attitude, and honestly, while he's inclined to keep an eye on his brother to make sure he doesn't set the place on fire, it's a good show of trust — and, to tell the truth, he's pretty sure Loki's more likely to start being a nuisance if Thor's in reach.
With that in mind, he turns his attention to Eleanor, smiling. "And I would appreciate the expertise of yours, as well. I'm not as familiar with Earth's liquors as I should be."
... It's a perfect division of labor. Shut up.

"Alright, you two can also go get, uh..." She doublechecks her list, assessing it for things that seem okay to trust Eleanor and Thor with. "Snacks and carbs. Bread, rice, whatever you're feeling." With a glance at Loki, she adds, "Which leaves us with meat, fruits and veges, and household stuff."

Loki doesn't bother masking his disdain for this entire exercise, which is at this point mostly about making things irritating for the people he's with than it is any real problem with the thing they're doing. Annoyed people are funny. This is a fact.
To that end: he rolls his eyes before meeting Ashley's.
"Well, I would hate to take command of this little excursion away from you. Lead on." He gives a wave of his hand that somehow manages to come off like condescending dismissal.

She set off in the direction of the booze aisle- vodka was a carb, right? She glanced back at Ashley for a moment, feeling a little bad for ditching her with Loki. But she had gotten dibs first so, fair was fair?
She turned her attention to Thor, giving him an encouraging grin. "Come on, hot stuff, I'll show you what we need."

With that settled, Thor catches up with Eleanor in quick order, and easily slows again to accommodate her shorter stride. And if he smiles a little at the compliment, that's his own business.
"Excellent. I've tried a few wines, but they're......" Well-suited for mortals? Little more than juice? Indistinguishable from colored water? "... very weak. What does this world have that's actually worth drinking?"
... Perhaps it's not Loki that's going to be needing supervision here.
Team Hot People this way
"Yeah, wine is for nerds." Sorry, Chidi. "Alright, I gotta introduce you to a thing we call tequila. There is a saying where I'm from- one tequila, two tequila, three tequila FLOOR. Words of wisdom right there," she said almost seriously as they walked but she had a big grin on her face. Getting drunk at the supermarket wouldn't be a first for her but she would make sure that they paid for everything this time.
"And vodka- wow you've never actually done vodka shots?" She was glad that she had gotten assigned to this house- apparently they needed her.
reporting for duty
"Tell me about these... vodka shots. Are they injected directly into the blood, like anesthetics? That doesn't seem as fun."

"So...you hung out with a bunch of nerds." Not like she could judge, though. "It's alright, you got me now and I'm going to teach you a few things,"she assured him as she led him down the aisle before stopping in front of the bottles of tequila.
"Oh god no. See, what you do is get a little glass and the goal is to drink as many of those before one of you passes out."
no subject
As for nerds? The humans? Thor thinks a moment, then nods, mouth pulled in a contemplative nod. Yeah.
Yeah, rhey're all nerds.
"Oh, well that's easy. Nobody ever outdrinks me," he added with all the aplomb of a fact undenied for at least eight hundred years. "Which ones are the vodka? I'll show you."

She let go of the cart to love to the shelves, looking the bottles over. She started selecting several clear bottles of vodka, handing them over to Thor. "It's decent stuff, it will get you drunk," she said as she leaned down to look for more. "And we're gonna need tequila...a lot of it."
Which was gathered and put into the cart. Blowing the grocery budget on booze was definitely not the worst thing she's done.

"So," she says bracingly. "Any favorite foods?"
Maybe she could get him picking out something he actually likes... or tolerates; her bar is low.
no subject
Well, if he has to be here, then he might as well make everyone else as miserable as he is. It's the fair thing to do.
"Wild boar."
He knows perfectly well you can't get that at a Midgardian supermarket. Your move, Ashley.
