[ kaneki comes into the library at least once every two days to grab new books and trade the old ones he has. Since he is an imPort and is there almost everyday, naturally people know who he is, and when they see him passing by the doors while carrying a mountain of books, they are ready to greet him with a smile. The lady behind the counter waits for kaneki to place down the many books he has about Mars, before she speaks ]

Still with your head in space, I see.

[ he hums and smiles back patiently while the woman rambles on about how she finds it amazing that all imPorts are working together to reach Mars and how it'll be an amazing accomplishment for USA and the world. Naturally she doesn't know OTO are up there, so Kaneki isn't going to tell her it's because there are enemies up there on Mars, and instead he plays the role of an imPort who just wants to help develop this world's tech.

I'll go grab some more books. [ when she finally lets him go, Kaneki is quick to head once again to the section about space, planets, stars, astrology, and everything in between. He might not have practical knowledge, but he will have theory, at least ]


:Re CAFÉ|| NONAH
[ the coffee shop is still quiet, but it has become popular over the months. Not only is run by an imPort which attracts native clients as it is, it also attracts people who enjoy Japanese snacks and pastries, and above all, people who love coffee – when the owner can only drink that, it’s only natural the coffee to be amazing.

The word that Kaneki provides food to inhuman imPorts also spread rather fast, and naturally that influences the clientele as well. It’s not that there are many vampires and imPorts that need this sort of food, but considering they are all living together in a human society, Kaneki thinks this would still be important even if he only had one client who needed it. And from time to time, he always gets a weirdo or two wanting to try human blood for some sick reason.

Today, he is selling away old trinkets left at the shop. The café is a bit of an "urban museum" as it's filled and covered with items that customers leave there, from butterfly collections to strange statues - there is even a real deer head. The owner accepts all items, but eventually when he has too many, Kaneki sells off many of them in a garage sale style. Things from stuffed animals, bug collections, small statues and figurines, old (not actually valuable) jewelry and other trinkets are on display inside the coffee shop; whoever wants them has to give a small donation and they can have the items. All the money will be donated to Maurtia Falls library.

If you aren't there for the trinkets, though, Kaneki can be found by the counter, having a sip of his black coffee as he watches the clients grab what they can. ]


BEACH || HEROPA
[ Since they got a new puppy, one thing that Kaneki worries about is if they are giving it too much attention and neglecting Tommy. So when the weather is nice, Kaneki decides to take Tommy for a walk - just the two of them - and let the dog run for a bit and enjoy some time alone with his owner without feeling jealous of the puppy. The beach was the destination Kaneki chose, but he realizes he might have made a mistake.

With the weather getting warmer, there are a lot more people at the beach when the sun is out, so when Kaneki and Tommy arrive, the ghoul knows he can't let Tommy run through the sand. Instead, Kaneki sits down near the water while still holding Tommy on his lead, and lets the pup dig holes, bark at strangers and try to bite any wave that manages to touch his paws.

Eventually people realize who Kaneki is and start to crowd him, asking for pictures and questions, for autographs and selfies, and when Kaneki is busy telling a girl he isn't interested in a picture, tommy suddenly runs off. Of course that means kaneki has to get up and run after the dog.

While Kaneki is fast, of course Tommy will move to the closest person he can find, to lick their hands and face, to greet them with a friendly and fast tail-wagging, or if you ignore him, he might bark just so you can look back at him. Kaneki will arrive a bit flustered, reaching for the dog ]

I'm sorry, he just ran off!

[completely by accident, Lucina has just cut into :Re Cafe's pastry sales for the day. it's only until she's gotten to the corner just before the place that she realizes, obviously that bringing donuts to a cafe is probably the most absurd, useless thing she could do. it's somewhat demoralizing, but she looks on the bright side: handing off the box of pastries to a random passerby frees up her hands to better heft this giant bouquet resting against her shoulder, a floral wreath looped around her arm.

excessive? yes. all in the spirit of good will? also yes. a very Lucina trait, all around.]

Good afternoon!

[she calls it as she pushes the door open, not seeing much ahead of her. she can only hope Kaneki's there, as usual.] Kaneki? It's me. Lucina!

[ when Kaneki sees Lucina coming in, he has to take a moment because why all the flowers but eventually he comes closer to help the girl out if she needs ]

Hello, how are you?

What's with the flowers?

There you are! [happy and relieved, Lucina thrusts the bulk of her delivery his way, leaves and petals scattering everywhere.] Here. These are for you, my friend! Oop-- [she catches one of the smaller, wrapped up arrangements before it can hit the floor.

she holds it idle for a second, eyeing the small flower mountain before delicately placing it at the tip-top.]

...There we go! Good.

[ghoulking]

[ kaneki is more than tempted to reach for lucina to help her out, hand moving to reach for the flowers as well. Until she says they are for him, and then kaneki just



stares ]

Wah- why? [ his cheeks may be turning red now. WHY THIS LUCINA ]

To make amends, for one! [she gives the bundle a final pat before releasing all hold on it so she can get the wreath off her arm. she moves at first to set it atop the pile, thinks twice, then just proceeds to walk past him to go place it on the counter, blind to the curious glances and stifled laughter from the patrons. they came for pastries, not theater! they can mind their business.

still, she does wait to go on until she's back at his side to help him heft all this nonsense, keeping her voice at a conversational low.] I bothered you a great deal, far beyond what boundaries you may set for yourself. I won't apologize for doing what I did, but I will apologize for the discomfort I caused. You're a valuable friend, after all!

[ghoulking]

Amends...? [ he isn't quite sure what she means. Even if she says she caused him a lot of problems, kaneki doesn't remember that (and he certainly doesn't think that). ]

I'm not sure when you caused me problems, Lucina-chan. [ and he certainly doesn't think she should bother with flowers ]

D-do you want me to take those flowers? [ PROBABLY FOR THE BEST... ]

[if he thinks Lucina will forget that horrible encounter in the parking lot nights ago, he's got another thing coming! she won't forget. how could she? between the putrid substances oozing from him, to his increasingly exasperated dismissals of her panic... no, sir. that encounter will be pressed in her heart and remain a part of the whole of her understanding of one Kaneki Ken.]

It's my shortcoming in knowing better what suits your tastes, Kaneki. [she smiles sadly at him when she lifts one of the bouquets up to see his face.] But flowers have meaning, and I was very careful to pick ones with only the best of intentions, in hopes that can make up for my shortcomings.

[ understanding or rather... confusion. She probably understands even less about him after that. Probably.

Kaneki shakes his head. He really doesn't feel she did something wrong and he really doesn't feel that she needs to apologize for anything, truly. To him, anything that happened back then was absolutely forgotten, including how he was partially dying during it.

The ghoul takes the flowers, looking at her from behind them, with a smile ] ... I don't mind.

You don't have to apologize to me so much. It's completely fine and you did nothing wrong.

[Freyja doesn't even hesitate when the dog comes bounding in her direction, because when Kaneki reaches them she's giving the dog all the love and attention he wants.]

Ehh, don't worry! It's fine! He's so cute.

[ And tommy truly appreciates all that love. He is super excited about new people and petting and he also knows well how much of a softy kaneki is about him, so he can push his luck all the time.

When kaneki reaches Freyja, Tommy sits down while wagging his super fast ]

He knows me too well, so he always knows when to escape me.

He might just like cute girls, too.

[She's teasing, but the mercats she dealt with at home were very similar. Except they beat up Hayate a lot. Eh.]

I didn't know you had a dog!

Who knows, he does have a soft spot for Abigail. [ kaneki is joking as well. ]

I have two, in fact. Tommy and Fumio, but Fumio is just a puppy. [ and has been getting all the attention of late ]

Aw, I gotta meet Fumio sometime too then! All these dogs are sooooo cute. Earth was hoggin' all of them for themselves. What's Fumio like?

[ he smiles, watching Tommy trying to lick freyja's hands ]

I had mercats! My boyfriend was super allergic to 'em though even if he kept tryin' to fight them. He usually lost, too.

[archie yells in delight to see tommy, his own mightyena borking a hello, tail wagging madly. he drops to his knees immediately to lavish the doggo with all the love he could want, while mightyena gives up and just... also drops down onto the sand to roll around? maybe he overheated with jealousy or something. who knows.]

Sorry, Ken! [comes a reply after a moment.] He's mine now!

[he's joking, of course, but archie feels like he knows kaneki well enough by now that the ghoul wouldn't be too tilted about it.]

[ sorry, mightyena, but Tommy already has a litte puppy at home to deal with - right now all he wants is full attention on him. He will wag his tail back at the pokemon, but the second archie drops to his knees to hug him, Tommy loses interest and covers archie with happiness and dog love (also dog drool).

When kaneki approaches, Tommy proceeds to ignore his owner, while kaneki shakes his head ] He could be, but I have a feeling D33 would kill you.

Wouldn't be the first time he's threatened!

[he laughs, letting tommy go absolutely buck wild nuts.]

Oh-- who's a good boy? Ahh! [he doesn't care at all about the drool or anything. he's just in the dog petting zone.] How are things with the puppy?

[ and yet, kaneki knows perfectly well dee actually did threaten many and probably archie by now and most likely meant it

kaneki watches archie and tommy lavishing in the attention, eventually laying down on the floor and presenting his belly to the man ]

It's alright. We are still training him, and Tommy is getting jealous. Which is normal, I suppose.

Hmmm, of course. [he does what tommy wants, picking up on what he's putting down. he looks up to kaneki after a moment, smiling.] How have you been doing? I told Dee to make sure he didn't leave it all to you.

I'm alright. [ kaneki is always alright, isn't he. But he tilts his head curiously ] leave it all to me...? You mean Fumio's training? [ the puppy is called Fumio, yes ]

He is training him too.

[archie decides not to mention that he's aware kaneki is fucking dying thanks to lucina-- though he currently, at least, thinks that all that's under control. maybe he really is alright, for once.]

Yeah. He told me that, by the way-- it's a nice name. [archie snorts, sitting back from tommy.] As long as it's going well and you ain't havin' to deal with it all. Ya know you can just bring him to me if either of 'em get sick, right? My healin' works on animals too.

[Brandon makes a polite pass of the trinkets, but he's not really interested. He's never collected things, even after gaining the security to do so, and nothing strikes him as appropriate for a gift. Besides, he's here to see Kaneki.

He looks at some of the menu with actual interest before wandering over to the corner.] I didn't know you had Japanese snacks.

[ when kaneki sees Brandon approaching, he smiles at the man as a greeting and after a nod ]

Hm- it's the easiest food to cook, for me.
