WHO: Cassandra Igarashi and you(??)
WHERE: Maurtia Falls
WHEN: Throughout June
WHAT: Cassandra does what she usually does, except this time there might be other people around. Also some closed prompts in the comments.
WARNINGS: Potential for various WicDiv-related warnings (death, mental illness, etc)- will be added if needed.
1. outside a coffee shop
[ For someone who claims to be the responsible adult in many situations, it probably doesn't reflect well that Cassandra has a diet of about 50% coffee. She tends to vary in where she gets it- it's kind of awkward for any shop to consider her a regular considering the celebrity status of imPorts- but she really, really does need caffeine. Her workaholic nature doesn't lend itself to a lot of rest.
So it's just another normal part of her day until she leaves the shop and some random native bumps into her, sending the coffee flying out of her hand. But before it can hit the ground, she thinks fast and snaps her fingers, freezing it (and the coffee spilling out of it) in place. It's the Porter power she's never really had a reason to use- she can freeze individual objects in time.
But she can't move those objects once they're frozen. So now she's glaring at this cup of not-even-that-good coffee suspended in mid-air over the sidewalk. ]
...Fucking hell.
[ It'll wear off in a few minutes. Until then, she's just...going to have to wait. ]
2. maurtia falls library
[ Are you supposed to use your abilities on library books? Probably not! Which is why Cassandra is happy that the mythology and history sections of the library tend to be very quiet, because after pouring over every relevant book in this section over the last few months, something suddenly occurred to her. If Lachesis is so all-powerful, and there's so many inexplicable connections between the mythologies of this world and others, could things have been added or altered in history? And would that reflect on the books?
It's not an impossible idea (somehow), and it'd be easier to divine on a particularly old text than a lot of things. Divining isn't all-encompassing- if it was, well, things would be very different- but it's worth a shot, and finding anything would be great right now.
...This is probably a sign that she's running out of options. Either way, she's picked up a particularly old Greek mythology tome and is divining on it, looking for signs of...cosmic fuckery or something, who knows. Monochrome, glowing specks are hovering around her. Not enough that the entire library would notice, but if you're in the area and happen to look over, that's definitely happening. ]

[ If there's another place you could run into Cassandra, let me know at
keterclass and we can hash it out! ]

[ If there's another place you could run into Cassandra, let me know at

for Norman - also at Maurtia Falls Library
She discovered this while talking to the librarian, who informed her that nope, that book is taken, and also that one, and yeah, even that one that's probably only been taken out once before. It's puzzling, to say the least. Not that she'd probably get anything from them anyway, but still...
People nearby might be able to notice she's grumbling as she walks away from the library desk. It wasn't a particularly loud or engaged conversation, but it did frustrate her. ]
no subject
He only hears the tail end of Cassandra's talk with the librarian, but he does get the last two titles. One of which is sitting in his bedroom, and the other of which he's holding. As Cassandra turns away, Norman follows.]
Excuse me. I'm about to return this one, if you want it.
[He holds up Reconstructing Potentialities and Reframing Histories: The Fates in World Mythology.]
no subject
I've...already read that one, but thanks. [ It was an obvious one to start with, but she was thinking of taking another peek anyway. With a limit to her resources, she's starting to look at old ones again. ]
Aren't those a little above your age level?
[ She says, more curious than accusatory, for once. ]

Cassandra, with... was that a coffee? A coffee that was supposedly going to spill, but instead sat there.
Floating? Suspended? That was new. New was good, it was interesting, it was data. Something he would need. ] Cassandra?
[ He asked, from a few yards away, and he jogged over, slipping his reflective aviators up on his head (they were gold, because David did like the irony. ] What -- [ He stopped, and looked at the floating cup of coffee. ] Ah, looks like you have that...in hand?
no subject
Hey, Professor. It's...fine. It's the power the Porter gave me. [ She runs a hand through her hair and looks around. Is anyone taking pictures yet? They probably will. ] Did I ever tell you about it? I haven't really had a reason to use it, but it's not exactly convenient.
[ If he couldn't tell. ]
no subject
[ He bent down, to look at it, wave a hand underneath, his lips upturned into a lopsided smile. ] I didn't even know. It's fascinating, does it -- last long?
[ Filed under: things to use later, of course. Sorry, Cass. ]

anyway, he's just leaving the store when cass does her thing. archie stops... almost behind her. he almost walks into the poor woman, but manages to shimmy awkwardly to the side.]
That's neat, [he comments, sounding genuinely a little impressed. import powers are always so cool. his mind immediately floods with questions as to the specifics of the power, how she can use it, what using it is like, ect, but all he does is move to parallel to cass and her party trick to split the crowd.] --c'mon, don't make a traffic jam, ya idiots!
[as an aside to cass:] I think you owe Lachesis three dollars now.
[because... bad joke.]
no subject
But still. She's not in the most talkative mood. She crosses her arms. ]
What, for the coffee? I'd rather not owe her anything, thanks. You're an imPort too?
no subject
[well, whatever. he takes a casual sip of his own coffee, nudging someone who's trying to take a picture along.]

Nice.
[ Cassandra can probably feel her leering from down the block before she calls out. Because Cassandra is doing miracles. ]
no subject
Oh, quit it. [ She puts her hands on her hips. She doesn't want this!! ] I don't need you finding reasons to needle me over shit like...this. [ She waves around a hand in the coffee cup's general direction. ]
no subject
[ She judges the coffee sculpture from a few different angles. ]
Abstract, but cool. This from the porter?
(no subject)
1
Whoa. Hi, Cassandra. Cool power!
no subject
It was cool until I realized I'd have to wait around for it to wear off. On a busy fucking sidewalk in the middle of the morning. [ Oh, maybe that's too much. She rubs her temple with her finger. ] So I'm guessing this isn't the type of thing the Porter gives out often?
no subject
[ It's all said in a cheerfully conversational tone, though, as he crouches to take a closer look at the cup, prodding it experimentally with one finger. ]
But no, I haven't met anyone with this power until now. How long does it last?

it's for a good reason, honestly. he's just come off the tail end of an interview some people were doing with him, and he's standing with his arms crossed, not looking too happy at the people in front of him with cameras.]
--I'm not saying it again, I'm not a species representative. Those types have to approach with intent, don't they? I'm not here by choice.
[he shakes his head.] Alright, I'm done. You guys want pictures? When's this road meant to be open again?
no subject
She supposes that overhearing what he's saying makes her slightly sympathetic- he's made it clear that he's done explaining that he's not a robot to everyone- but not enough. She takes a begrudging sip of her now free coffee (which is still warm, somehow; creepy) and looks up to yell. ]
Hey! [ She fans her arms out. ] Riptide, what the fuck are you doing here?!
no subject
Hi, Cass! [he chirps, happily.] I got that person you told me to get, and I just had an interview! I was about done, actually. You wanna come with me to the beach?

he's supposed to be practicing right now, actually. not soccer -- reading. it's still such a foreign thing to him, even with what few letters his cousin had shown him back home, back before his life became...this. but he's on the down swing of trying to stay diurnal, and he's too groggy; all the letters look like mush, and he's more likely to wind up napping than reading much of anything at this rate.
that's why he's wandering away from the kids' section and through aisles, lingering to peer at some books with peculiar covers or pictures along the way. it's what gets him to discover this weird little scene which he actually has to double-take at, thinking he's just seeing spots from being so sleepy. but. no. this is...
um...
what is this? not normal. bad???]
What...?
no subject
She's surprised to see Martin again, so quickly, but a library isn't that weird a place for a kid to be. Now that she's been seen researching what will most likely be a futile effort, she almost feels...embarrassed? But, no, not yet. ]
Oh- uh. Hi, Martin. [ Uh. Hm. What do you say to a kid? She never talks to kids. ] Why are you here?
no subject
he shifts the book in his hands under one arm so he can scrub at his eyes, blinking a few times.
no, it...it's still there.]

he approaches to greet her, with a smile on his lips ]
hello, Cassandra-san.

Oh- shit. Hey. [ This...just makes her feel ridiculous. Something about being seen doing this last-ditch, unlikely thing makes her feel strange. She closes the book, and the sparks start to fade out. ]

she doesn't approach soon enough to stop the floating timestuck coffee situation, though. cass looks up at her over her shades, her own cup--a dirty chai--in hand.]
Buy you a new one? [this is looking to her like a definite cut your losses moment.]
no subject
That said, she's kind of flummoxed by the offer. That's...almost too nice? What does it mean. ]
No, it should just...come down after a few minutes. [ She's not looking forward to making sure she catches it. ] And I could buy myself one if I needed it, seriously.
