WHAT: Yusuke and Yuri are sad about Otabek porting out, so Blue throws them a cheer-up party! It goes about as well as you’d expect a party thrown by Blue Oak to go.
WARNINGS: Typical party teen drinking/drug use...?? Anything worse, lmk to tag it.


[The house sits on a nice field of green surrounded by wooded area, with a river running through the back for the Water-types owned by its inhabitants. Despite its largely tasteless pirate-themed decor, it’s a large and spacious house, pretty well kept-up for how much of a disaster most of its residents are.]

[The large living room has been decked out with all manner of snacks and drinks for the party (including plenty of unsupervised alcohol, Blue don’t give a shit, just don’t wreck the place), and there’s options available for most every taste. A little later in the party, there will be the scent of some suspiciously earthy baked goods coming from the kitchen, but— just don’t mind that, okay? Red and Blue’s Switch is set out in front of the TV, for anyone that wants to play some MarioKart (which is canon in their universe, ok, do we even have an AU for this?); there’s also a karaoke machine. Blue’s forbidden from it. Trust when I say that won’t last. Pikachu and Eevee, the troublemaking little attention-seekers that are often to be found about their trainer’s shoulders and feet, are sure to be running about, looking for pets, attention, or free food.]

[The upstairs areas aren’t exactly blocked off, but Arcanine has been stationed there with orders to keep partyers out. He’s a big, loyal boy, so you’d be hard pressed to convince him to let you up. ...Not to say it’s impossible. He does love attention (but also he breathes fire, so don’t push your luck).]

[Outside in the yard there are still other Pokémon milling around, if you’d like to take a break from all the people and chill out with them. Exeggutor can be found tending to his precious berry trees, a huge orchard of brightly colored fruits in the yard. Red’s Venusaur is never too far, napping in the sunshine with Charizard. Blastoise and Gyarados, the aquatic Pokémon, are chillin’ in the river.]

[Blue will request that no one straight up destroys the house, but he knows how it goes. Just know, he reminds anyone that looks like they’re going to touch something breakable, that their animals can electrocute you, set you on fire, and douse you with water canons. Play nice, everyone!]

[He can feel the shine of D33's admiration for Duo come through, and Quatre smiles a little wider. He's glad that D33 has those sort of connections here. Especially when it's Duo, and Duo is so concerned with trying to steer D33 to find his own path. That must mean something is working.

He nods as if he accepts it, looking skywards instead of following up with D33 directly.] He's very important to me. I'm lucky to have him here, even if I can't always say it.

[He’s still eying Quatre a little suspiciously, but in general, he’s still pretty chilled out - just a little hung up on Shinigami as well.]

It is a bit surprising. You’re rather young, aren’t you?

[And Father Maxwell is rather silver fox daddy status not.]

A-ah, well. It's complicated. [For some reason, disclosing the huge difference between his time and Duo's feels like sharing a secret that he shouldn't, even though Duo hasn't mentioned anything specifically against it. Maybe it's because it's a personal issue that neither of them want to look too closely at; he certainly doesn't want to talk about it with D33.] For one thing, he's not as old as he looks... But even though he is older, it doesn't change the bond that we have.

[d33tached]

[D33 raises a brow.] Isn't he?

He's... around 45? [Quatre has to pause to think about it to make sure.] Somewhere around there. But it doesn't really matter.

[d33tached]

[D33 has very little reference level when it comes to ages, so this information does nothing.]

I see.

How old are you, then?

[fource]

Sixteen now. [Or close enough, anyway. He's been here long enough that the three month difference between the date back home and the date here was almost made up; soon it really will be a year since Operation Meteor. Anyway, it just feels polite to ask back] And you?

[d33tached]

[D33's jaw tightens a little at the question, but he's still drunk, so he ends up giving a pretty exaggerated shrug at the question, as if that should answer it.]

[fource]

[That does answer it. Quatre probably should have seen this coming, considering 75% of his friends respond in the same way. If a little less defensively, but he can't really blame D33 when he and Quatre don't know each other well yet. Quatre shrugs back easily and changes the subject.]

He wants me to come to one of your training sessions, if you're comfortable with it.

[d33tached]

[D33's eyes narrow. It wouldn't be the first time that Shinigami had included someone else in their training ritual. Even so...]

He's made no mention of such a thing to me.

Perhaps he should, if those are his intentions.

I asked him not to. [Quatre assumes that Duo would have told D33 to expect Quatre at their next training session, rather than having him show up with no explanation. More fool him.] I don't want to go if you don't want me to.

[d33tached]

[D33 rolls his eyes this time, looking not unlike a stubborn kid being forced to hang out with their younger brother (as if D33 isn't the child in this situation).]

It makes little difference to me. Do what you will.

...You asked me to stay away from you. [Quatre says cautiously, as if this reminder will jog D33 back into threatening him and/or accusing Quatre of stalking him. Perhaps they've turned over a new leaf!] I didn't want to make you uncomfortable.

[d33tached]

[Okay. That's true. He did ask Quatre to stay far away from him, but then he also talked to Shinigami about Quatre and whether or not he could be trusted. Quatre must not know that part (not that D33's about to admit to it). He shrugs again, more stubbornly than before, somehow.]

I would thank you to keep your powers to yourself when I am in your presence, but if it is what Shinigami wishes, then so be it.

I'll try. [It's the best he can agree to, since his control is haphazard at best; there's a reason that he's taking a breather outside with the pokemon, after all. Strange that the basis of his relationship with D33 comes down to how both of them are important to Duo. He wasn't expecting D33 to let on that easily.] Have you known him for a while?

[d33tached]

[Again, if Shinigami says that Quatre can be trusted, then D33 will accept that. He trusts Shinigami, after all - perhaps more than he trusts anyone. There's no point in keeping what connection they have hidden from the boy. Still, he seems rather put off even as he answers him.]

He was of great assistance to me upon my arrival. I have known him since that time.

Ah, I see. [Hmm. Maybe it's too soon to press. It's probably better to stick to baby steps for now, given how new this tentative agreeability is; he walks it back with a brief flash of a smile.] What about Blue? I din't realize you got along.

[Since, like, last he heard D33 called him an idiot?]

[d33tached]

[D33 glares.]

What about him?

[They don't get along. Why is Quatre even asking this? Who brought up Blue? D33 momentarily forgets that he is literally at the man's party as they speak.]

[Quatre is only slightly cowed by the force of D33's glare-- he knows a lot of people with glares like that, though to be fair Quatre is usually an exception to receiving one.] Well, nothing, I suppose. He just seems like... [Well, truthfully it seems like D33 would find Blue extremely annoying.] Well, it's nice of him to invite us.

[d33tached]

[D33 rolls his eyes. That's it. That's his answer.

[Where did his drink go?]

[Wow. Quatre sips his soda in awkward silence, momentarily deterred, until inspiration strikes. He smiles widely and asks]

How is Trowa doing?

[d33tached]

[Trowa--

[Hi. D33 is glaring. Again.]

The dog's name is Fumio.

[Pause.]

He's doing well.

Oh, you named him. [Quatre accepts this correction (and glare) easily enough, though he is going to continue to call the dog Trowa until the end of his days.] I'm glad. Why Fumio?

[d33tached]

[D33 looks a little reluctant to keep speaking, but now they're talking about his puppy, and that is a topic he (as with many dog owners) cannot easily resist.] It's a Japanese word meaning literature.

Kaneki came up with it. He speaks the language.

Oh, that is a nice name. [If he just had to use something other than Trowa Barkton. It's also a really promising line of conversation to follow up on. Could D33 have a hobby besides dogs and being a jerk? Maybe it's too much to ask.] Did you pick it because of the meaning?
