Self Defense-- After the Class
[ Being a self defense instructor was a little more complicated then he realized at first. His first few classes were less than ideal (some minor yelling, enough tension for a knife to cut through) but now he was finally easing into the role. Keith was putting his patience to the test with each class, but it was good for him. A shame he won't remember doing this if he ever goes back home permanently.
He observes for a moment, before offering a kind smile. ]
All right. Good job, but make sure to keep your toes back when you kick like that. Don't really want to be breaking them now.
[ If only Iverson could see him now. He'd probably keel over and die at the shock of it all. ]
Let's wrap up for the day. Remember, you're more then welcome to come see me after for additional help.
Workout - Needs more 80s music
[ Anyone could probably notice that Keith is working out harder then normal. His hair is tied up, hands balled in fists as he throws punches at the hanging bag at the side of the gym. He's quick to throw a roundhouse kick, before taking a step back to breathe.
With Allura showing up he's reminded again of the battle of Naxzela and what happened. It was war, their mission to stop the Galra from taking over (and subsequently destroying) the universe took precedence over his own life-- didn't it? Working with the Blades was a constant reminder that they all signed up for this. Knowledge or death.
Was that really the only way?
Angry at himself, he throws another punch -- a bad one at that -- and he withdraws his hand in pain. At least he's not punching an actual person? ]
[ ooc: If you'd like to do a separate post let me know! I'd be happy to do a prompt for people directly. Otherwise, feel free to use this as an open Dawn of the Delts Gym post as well! ]

Knife to Meet You?
[ Now if only that weird, niggling feeling in the Force would go away, he'd be able to enjoy it a little more. ]
[ He frowned to himself, turning to try and find where the source of that feeling was coming from, only to hear a loud THUNK next to his ear. He turned toward the source of the noise, only to find a knife embedded in the wall behind him, mere centimeters away from his ear. If he hadn't turned his head, it probably would have... ]
[ Luke swallowed, an awkward, uneasy look coming to his face, before he turned again, trying to see where the knife might have come from. ]

Keith was surprised how close he got to hitting him. He really shouldn't have aimed like that considering Luke was a customer but... ]
Oh no.
[ Anger outweighing logic, he storms over, glaring at Luke. ]
You're not welcome here. Not after that stunt you pulled.
no subject
Really? You're still out to kill me?
[ He reached back, pulling the knife out from the wall. ]
How many different ways do I have to tell you, 'I've never met you before'?
no subject
[ He holds his hand out, a sour look on his face as he rests his other hand on his hip. ]
I don't believe that. I know it was you.
[ And his dumb magic!!! He just wanted that hover bike. ]
no subject
You realize you started accusing me of attacking you just after the Heaven Scent clones were wandering around, right?
[ Please tell him at least noticed that much. Please. ]
no subject
Clones. The guy who attacked him could have been a clone sure, but how was he supposed to believe that? He crosses his arms, giving Luke a look over before he sighs. ]
This place just keeps getting stranger and stranger.
[ He at least had the decency to look a little guilty, rubbing the back of his neck as he glances away. ]
Sorry it's just been... weird. [ For lack of a better word. ]
no subject
Tell me about it.
[ He shifted his stance, folding his arms over his chest. ]
That clone very nearly killed my best friend. He knew the difference between it and me, so he was able to defend himself before things got out of hand. I'm sorry that you didn't get that chance.
I'll Bring the Sweatbands if You Bring the Tunes
[Back home, he'd be up at dawn, prepping the forge to open, then getting into his normal workout routine. If he was going to conceal his strength, his powers, he had to at least look the part physically. That meant constant strength training to not only build his body, but to heighten his control.]
[He's currently doing some dead lifts, working up a good sweat. Nothing too crazy, about two hundred pounds, enough to work up a sweat and to pass as normal for his build. The young man across the way angrily beating the crap out of the sandbag. He exhales and puts the weight down just as he throws that bad punch. Darin can't exactly resist the urge to comment.]
Yikes. What did that sandbag ever do to you? You alright there?
no subject
I'm fine. [ He snaps, before he takes a deep breath. ] Sorry I didn't mean to...
[ He shakes his hand, turning to face him. ]
Just trying to relieve a little stress. I must have gotten distracted.
no subject
[Darin rubs his chin for a second.]
I could be though. I mean, if you want a sparring partner. I can promise you that I'm way more sturdy than that thing.
[It's not often he's willing to admit that he makes a good punching bag.]
Whattaya say? Up for more of a challenge?
no subject
[ Should he really be accepting this from a total stranger? He's hesitant at first, if only because he's used to training on his own. He gives him a smile though when he adds to his offer. ]
All right. Sure. It'd be nice to have a sparring partner.

[He laughs and motions off to the side where a small ring is set up for the patrons who prefer to have someone to box with. He foregoes any sort of protection hops right on in, unwinding and then tightening the tape around his hands and wrists.]
I agree with the sentiment though. I haven't had a sparring partner in months. Not since I left home.
[He eyes the training pads, the large ones that trainers put on their hands to give their partner targets to hit. He decides to pick them up and slide them over his hands, clapping together before planting his feet shoulder length apart.]
Name's Darin, by the way. Darin Altway. I'm pretty new here.
no subject
It's nice to meet you, Darin. I'm Keith. I've been here for... about a year or something close to it.
[ Which looking back was a little surreal. Maybe he felt a little more guilty then he let on to Allura. He's been here for almost a year and what does he have to show for it? ]
no subject
Whenever you're ready. And don't you dare go easy on me. I'm a lot more resilient than I look. I used to train alongside the Elite Royal Guard of the Knights of Alvale. I'm no slouch!
[He plants his feet again and waits for Keith to start striking.]
after class
[ approaching the defense instructor after he offers his hand for additional assistance, something she can see matthew doing despite it potentially affecting his own career, she smiles as she approaches. ]
You make it look easy.
[ had she been watching? yep. ]
no subject
I don't think I've seen you around, though.
[ He doesn't recognize her as a regular customer at the gym, but he could always been wrong. It's not like he's at the gym every day (having to commute for work was enough as it is), so if he was he hopes she'll clear it up fairly quickly. ]
no subject
[ it's the truth ... she's spent a lot of time hanging around gyms, wondering how far and how fast they'll push those around them. she's seen a few she hasn't minded, and dawn of the delts fits that. ]
Do you teach often?
no subject
[ He pauses briefly. ]
About twice a week. I thought about picking up a third day but-- right now that's about it.

[ as someone who is hungry for a lot of blood — for action and that addictive adrenaline rush — it’s almost a strange concept to think not many others feel the same. and to give credit where credit is due, elektra is actually curious, especially given not everyone has been blessed with her background. ]
