what it means to TREAT YOURSELF [OPEN]
WHO: Lucina, misc.
WHERE: Maurtia Falls
WHEN: 4/20
WHAT: the only reason 4/20 is important is bc IT'S LUCINA'S BIRTHDAY
WARNINGS: bad fashion.just the worst
o1. party dress
[oh no. she's shopping. alone. do you know why this is an "oh no" situation? because this sweet girl may be a year older, but she's still not the wiser about fashion.
at this department store -- a tried and true favorite, thanks to Iris -- she's trying on some of the new things that've come in for summer. she walks out of a changing room in this ugly thing and a sunhat that would be cute...with the right outfit.
she assesses herself in front of the vanity mirrors outside of the rooms, turning and humming until she catches glimpse of spectators in the reflection. her mouth quirks into a shy smile and she turns, giving them a curtsy.]
Well? [her arms lift a little with her shrug.] What do you think?
o2. free cupcakes
[sure, birthdays are typically about receiving praise and gifts, but...while that sort of thing is very fun, she's certain she'll get more than her fill of it from her sweet, overbearing cousin. so instead, she feels it only right to share some of her optimism and good spirits with people around her. that's why, after buying a cupcake for herself at this cute little pastry cafe, she pulls out extra cash from her purse.]
If you're able...can you also provide one for everyone else here? However many this much can provide, that is.
[it's not her intention to suddenly become the most popular girl there, but it sure doesn't hurt.
she takes it on herself to help distribute, too, moving over and presenting it to one of those seated, smiling kindly.]
Here. Would you like one, too? They're very good!
o3. it's 4/20 so of course there's frisbee players around like come on
[one of the places she's found she likes best in this city is the downtown park that's cleaved in two by the canal. she'd had her first picnic here with Hearthstone, after all! now that drizzle and snow is starting to give way to greener grass and just the hints of spring, she's seeing more and more people about besides the die-hard joggers and pedestrians shortcutting through to work. more kids are getting to make use out of the playground equipment, too, and it warms her heart to see young families at play together like this.
while she sits on a bench at a distance, admiring and quietly pining for those old memories, a frisbee lands at her feet. she stares at it curiously for a second before bending down to pick it up, looking around for where it came.]

Whose...?

FREE CUPCAKES!!!!
...unfortunately Foggy went through college subsisting on instant ramen, shots of espresso, Red Bull, and beer, so free donuts right out of nowhere are a godsend. He just stares up at Lucina like she just came down from the heavens accompanied by the angels, presenting the food of the gods upon a velvet cushion for his unworthy hands.]
Oh my god. Yes, please. [Just taking the cupcake, yep.] Thanks, Lucina—if you're not too busy, you can sit with me, we can eat cupcakes and croissants.
f r e e c u p c a k e s
Of course! I always have time for you, Foggy. [she has a seat, pushing a little plate with its blessed cupcake on it toward him -- pastel pink frosting with little candy sprinkles. the one she'd gotten for herself has to get taken out of its carry-out bag.]
Did you escape the office for a little bit for something sweet?
no subject
I actually escaped Padmé's office for a little bit for something sweet. [The distinction needs to be made here, okay.] You're giving out free cupcakes today? What's the occasion?
no subject
It's customary to have sweets for one's birthday, yes? But I'm certainly not going to be eating them alone. I wanted to share!

[Blue looks the dress up and down, trying to keep his face as.. neutral as possible. Well... it sure is a dress. She seems to like it, though? Maybe he can just... nudge her in the right direction...]
Sure, I think we could dress this up, huh? Maybe if we pick one color and run with it... [He taps his chin, then glances to her hair. Ah,] The red will make your hair stand out! How about that?
no subject
Red will? [blink. that's...curious.] I always thought matching blue or purple was supposed to make the most sense... [they are close together on the color wheel, after all; doesn't that make them friends?
(no, Lucina.)
oh, well! she shrugs, smiling.] Well, alright. Let's have a look, then!
no subject
[Okay now you're laying it on too thick, guy]
Yeah! Let's go to the shoe and accessory departments, see if we can find some stuff to go with it.
[So after Lucina changes back out of the dress, it's time to wander around the shoe tables, looking at some bright pumps and strappy sandals. He picks up a pair, a nice low heel she could run around in comfortably. She doesn't strike him as the high heel sort...] How about this?

no subject
Please! I've already paid for the lot, and I couldn't possibly eat them all myself. You'd actually be doing me a favor in accepting, should you be keen on these kinds of sweets.

Either way, he is unable to answer when she asks him how it looks. She just looks so happy, so pleased with herself, but Leo had never been the kind of person to not be blunt to the point of seeming mean about it.]
N-no....
[Sorry, that's his answer right now. What was the question again?]
Eeer... Maybe. I mean. Oh. I just think that maybe it. Mmm. It's very colorful.
no subject
self-consciously smoothing out the front, looking down:] Ah, we-well...I just figured, since spring is coming, and there'll be lots of colorful flowers...
[yikes. she needs to recover.]
Then...then what would you suggest? That is--I mean, if you saw something that looks nice to you...
[which is...strange to ask a boy. something she realizes like a second after she's already said it. YIKES.]
no subject
Oh... it is, isn't it? [He had to dull his sharp tongue for a moment, and he did so with some effort, a fist over his mouth as he gave her another once-over. Boy it looked like a bad carpet on the floor of an overblown Nohrian noble, but by gods if she was happy he'd find a way to be too.]
Sorry, I'm just. So used to the constant grey of the countryside, that the colors just took me by surprise.

[ Iris's sigh is a sad, forlorn one. She doesn't know why she's surprised, given how many times they've gone shopping before. She really doesn't - she knows that her favorite princess will drift towards the brightest, ugliest things this department store can offer.
(She's also written their buyers very strongly worded Bwitter DM's. Amazingly, they've yet to take her up on her advice.) ]
I love the cut. It flatters you really, really well... [ and ah, here it comes: ] But does it come in any other colors or prints?
officer i swear im under the legal limit for floral print
Lucina's grown to understand that honey and that sigh. she smiles haplessly, folding her arms behind her while Iris critiques, already aware her poor taste's done her wrong again. she needn't worry while Iris is around, though, so she's hardly embarrassed.
still...she looks down at the garish splashes of color, a bit disappointed. it looks nice to her...]
Maybe...I admit I didn't browse too much once I spotted it.
at least there's no bold jewelry to make it a true faux pas....
[ Well, Lucina really seems to like this disaster, and Iris knows money is zero object (she remembers seeing that purse stuffed to the brim with cash), so she gives her friend a quick once-over.
Pair that dress with - oh, and then add the shoes she saw earlier, and - she might be able to save this. Iris snaps her fingers, ]
Well, what occasion were you hoping to wear this for? Anything special, or just every day wear?

I have a lot of birthday money to burn through today; it seems fitting to share the good will with as many people as I can!

[She looks back down at her cupcake, and instead of being a delightful treat, it's now a symbol of shame. Shaaame! And buttercream frosting but also shame]
Ugh... I should be the one getting you something, not the other way around.

he radiates a pretty hostile unfriendly don't-talk-to-me aura but stares at lucina offering the cupcake, because what. ]
... What is this. [ stares suspiciously at... this pastry... what's with this?? he doesn't trust... he's just like this. ]
no subject
Lucina approaches with the same kind air as all the rest, and the question just as easily. actually, better: is this the rare opportunity where Lucina actually is the expert on a thing?
well. comparatively.
in any case:]
It's called a cupcake. The name speaks for itself, but... [she gently pushes the plate with a finger closer to him.] They're made of the same ingredients as a regular-sized cake, only tinier. A serving just for one.
It's to no cost to you, so why not give it a try?
no subject
I know what a cupcake is, fucking obviously! [ he says like he totally didn't ask 'what is this' seconds ago. ] I meant, what is it for? You think I like this sweet-ass shit? [ he's here nursing a black ice coffee like some tryhard... look, this is the first stop on his run route and he was in the mood for a drink.
instant response to free sweets: suspicious and not to be trusted, he snaps at the stranger who offers it. yep. ]
