WHO: archie and lord leo
WHERE: a park in maurtia falls
WHEN: start of april
WHAT: JUST HANGIN'
WARNINGS: none. its gonna be chill. okay. none.
[it's a nice day, for once, when archie asks if leo wants to visit the park to discuss his magic and also say hello to crobat and mightyena. a double whammy! they find a nice hilly spot (definitely not because archie was going to ask leo to move it before getting distracted and forgetting completely, accidentally saving himself of the embarrassment of a misunderstanding) and end up there for several hours. archie asking questions, leo answering them, maybe some demonstrations of the magic he's capable of. overall, a very good time spent, he thinks. very jealous? super jealous. he wants gravity magic. or water magic. does water magic exist?
leo is just coming off the end of explaining something very complex when archie just about interjects, speaking the moment he pauses for breath.]
--Is there water magic? Like. With elemental stuff...
[mightyea, who is laying next to archie raises its head, giving him a look that clearly says don't even start on that shit motherfucker. crobat - hanging off a branch from the tree next to them just grunts, not even opening its eyes.]

He laughed a little at the question, not really minding the interruption.]
There is water magic, yes. In fact, there is a young woman with the ability to manipulate water with the power of her voice.
[Leo held up his book then.]
But most magic in my world, especially the elemental kind, requires a tome, so you'd need to find one which has water magic tied to it. Fire, wind, and lightning are the most common.
no subject
With her-- shit. That's so cool! Like yelling or--?
[no, dingus, singing. though archie thinks yelling would be just as cool.]
So that means... despite everything ya know, you couldn't do it without the tome?
no subject
Well, maybe. But what I saw was her using the magic by singing, the water weaving about her body like a ribbon.
[Yelling would very much be more Archie's style. It would... be weird to see him dancing like Azura...]
That's right. At least, not magic that is not inherent to me. I am a master of Darkness however, and can use dark magic without a tome. That said, a tome would strengthen and direct the magic a little better.
no subject
Incredible. Do you feel anything with Mightyena, by the way? He's a dark type. He can sorta use dark magic, too! Though Not really right now, I don't have the right moveset for him.
[mightyena snorts, boofing at archie lightly.]
--Look! Just 'cause Blue mentioned other moves and stuff doesn't mean you're suddenly an expert! You're my support doggie... yes you are!
[...give them a moment.]
no subject
Oh, no I can't. I mean, I can't really sense magic or anything, unless it is being used.
[He held a hand up then, palm side up as dark magic gathered around his wrist and into his palm.]
In my world, most things hold dormant magic. If I were to sense it all, I might go mad, haha!
no subject
Huh. I guess that's useful. Uh-- not goin' mad, I mean. [like mightyena, archie watches it with interest.] Is it just like-- somethin' that's natural to your world? 'Cause I think I know of something similar here.
no subject
Yes, my world has quite a bit of magic. Many people can learn it, even if most are not capable of strong magics, and the world is covered in Dragon Veins, which are a source of magic which the royal families can tap into in order to do great feats like dry up or flood a river, cause a rainstorm, or even level mountains, because of our dragon blood.
no subject
...despite himself, archie can't help but look a little nervous.]
As long as it's not-- done on a whim, though I'm sure you wouldn't. Right?
no subject
It's rather impossible to do on a whim. You can only perform those magics when you come into direct contact with a Dragon Vein, which is not terribly common to do, and most of the places where they can be found are more or less designated as battlefields.
[Leo keeps petting mightyena, but looks at Archie.]
Personally, I don't really do anything on a whim, though. I'm Nohr's king, and formerly it's foremost tactician. Everything that I do I try to take careful consideration before I do, in order to minimize casualties.
[Except dress himself. And speak, sometimes. Whoops.]
After all... as the tactician... should anyone die, it is on my hands. Anyone who is injured or killed is so because of my own failures.
no subject
[he shakes his head, leaning back with his hands on the grass.]
I haven't fought a war and all the problems I've faced in my life have been mostly of my own making, but I once led a... vicious gang. It's-- a long, convoluted story and nowhere close to the tragedy a war brings, just hubris. [he doesn't doubt someone like leo could probably tell he's never fought a proper physical battle in his life near immediately.] For what it's worth, though, I had to lean durin' my own leadership that you can't plan for everything. You can run the numbers over and over, have multiple scientists and experienced field operatives bring anything they can think of to the table, but there's still gonna be something you don't account for. Even with tech we had that was developed for that very thing, there was still a possibility of something no-one could ever have guessed happening.
[they probably should've accounted for kyogre being too powerful. too power hungry. too much of... everything, really.]
The way stuff works, what you face is the result of an infinite amount of deciding factors coming together. I get that you have to take responsibility for the response, at least, and some of the choices you made that led up to that point, but there comes a point where it's like trying to feel responsible for the fruit that falls off a Tropius' neck. [unavoidable, like a god being too powerful.] ...I'm sure you know all this, anyway. It's impossible to not feel responsible for people that look to you for guidance being hurt or killed, even if there was no way you could've reasonably stopped it. Maybe that's what makes a mediocre leader a good one, someone that always strives to do and be better.
