WHAT: Registration in motion at the newly built Maurtia Falls Endeavor Center. Come out to register and stay to support the children of Maurtia Falls through donations, encouragements, and engaging with them in a variety of games! To celebrate both Valentine’s Day right around the corner and to raise money for the Center, a date auction will be held. ImPorts are encouraged to sign up! And don’t worry, there’s no one checking to make sure you are signing the right name down on that list….
WARNINGS: None anticipated! Let me know if that should be changed.




'Tis the season for love and romance, and even at the grand unveiling of the Maurtia Falls Endeavor Center, those things could not be avoided. Along the pathway leading up to the building, children are selling roses to help raise money (five dollars a rose, which might seem a little steep, but how could you say no to such a cute and hopeful face?) The roses come in three different colors and are supposed to represent something different -- pink for a friend, white for a crush, and red for a romantic partner.

They will also mention something vague about sign ups and direct you inside. Hm, could they mean registration? Or something else? Hm!!

Inside the building, the Valentine’s Day theme continues with pink and red streamers strewn about as well as balloons and even handmade decorations. There, imPorts will get to tour the facility, participate in a wide variety of activities, or enjoy free refreshments. Widely voted on by the children helping to host the event, the food of choice is pizza. Many of the different pizza places within Maurtia Falls have helped to cater the event, giving a multitude of different flavors -- from standard pepperoni to more unique ultra healthy vegan pizzas. There’s even the option to make your own pie, utilizing the Endeavor Center’s cafeteria. So get your culinary skills to work, imPorts!

Activities

The Endeavor Center itself is meant to cater to a wide variety of after school interests for children. This includes sports, theater, arts and crafts and even gardening. In the lobby, event staff will also be passing out informational pamphlets expanding on upcoming volunteer programs which will provide children, especially teens, with counseling and support to help keep them away from the criminally-minded side of Maurtia Falls that has hampered the city's youth for many years. Our future is in their hands, is the slogan on the pamphlets, and the message inside is optimistic that great progress can be made.

But moving beyond the lobby, there are both full and half gymnasiums within the Endeavor Center, and they’ve been set up to allow for a multitude of sports. Basketball, volleyball, badminton, etc. But the main attraction of the sports rooms are the dodgeball games. ImPorts are encouraged to sign up and play intense competitions against one another. To raise the stakes, any winning team will get to take home gift cards for a free meal at some of the local restaurants.

Perhaps physical exertion is not your thing! That’s okay. Equipped with a modest auditorium, the stage today is set up with a microphone and a wide variety of props. A sign written in glitter glue reads: ImPort ImProv. ImPorts are encouraged to get up on stage and act out a scene off the cuff. And if you don’t have an idea, don’t worry! Audience members are more than happy to shout out things like: two gay vampires in a bar or forbidden romance between a superhero and supervillain!

Not much of an actor? There are both indoor and outdoor gardens. Eventually, they will house different plants including flowers, fruits and vegetables, as well as herbs. But for today, they are both dominated by tasteful floral arrangements that are pleasing to look at as well as meant to add a touch of romance. In the outdoor garden, there is a three-tiered decorative fountain as well as many bird feeders hung on the trees that are constantly visited by the local avian life. To contrast, the interior is the home of live butterflies -- come admire their vibrant colors. A professional photographer can be found in both places to take romantic pictures of couples they can choose to either take home or have displayed on the Endeavor Center’s website.

Last but not least, the Art Gallery displays many child-created paintings of various talents. Some depict scenery, others depict people -- and most popularly imPorts. There are even some that depict imPort couples (whether they are actual couples or not!) But the main draw is the art room which has been set up with several canvases. ImPorts are encouraged to get their artistic talent on, and if they would be so kind, to donate those paintings so they can be sold to raise money for the Endeavor Center. Need inspiration? No problem! Every now and then an imPort model will be chosen to stand there for the artists to paint. And at 5pm, all children under the age of 18 are not allowed in the art room because for the bold imPort model, there will be a nude art session!

ImPort Charity Date Auction

ImPorts who have signed up (or been signed up by someone else) will be rounded up by helpful volunteer staff for the 7:00 PM first bid in the central atrium, all the while effusively thanking them for donating their time and patronage to help the youth of Maurtia Falls-- so effusively perhaps, that it might be tough to get a word in edgewise about much else!

Several local restaurants and other venues have offered gift certificates for the winning bidders and their date free of charge (the publicity pays for itself), and the bidding amounts themselves all go toward funding more of the Endeavor Center's Youth Programs Initiatives. Although the imPorts are the ones being auctioned, bidding can be done by either imPorts or natives, and there are definitely some locals who have brought deep pocketbooks tonight with the intent on scoring an imPort date. One questionable looking gentleman in particular seems to be bidding on every imPort, so if you see this happening, it might be a wise idea to help your friend and outbid him!

The coordinators have hired an experienced and energetic female auctioneer to helm this event, who also happens to be a huge imPort fan and may toss embellished personal facts into the fast-paced chatter in order to encourage bidding. All winning bids go to charity, folks!

[All things considered, he couldn't really complain about the Porter's timing; it was rather opportune when you think about it. After all, he'd just murdered a man (not that he didn't wholly deserve it, but still) and then he'd broken up with his boyfriend (You deserve a nicer breed of man than I, Conder Kyl). So being abruptly transported into a different galaxy had at least precluded any awkward investigations into the guardsman's death, and had kept him from brooding too much over Conder. He'd miss Jas and Norra, but the old gang had been breaking up anyway, with all of them going their separate ways. Making a fresh start had been just what he'd needed really, even if this particular situation wasn't exactly ideal. The various events with free alcohol helped quite a bit however, which is pretty much what brings him to the Maurtia Falls Endeavor Center today, having no intention of swearing any oaths to a government. Been there; done that. No thank you.

Unfortunately though, there are two big things conspiring to ruin his day—if there are any potent beverages to be had, they're well-hidden, and two—a love and romance-themed festival is not exactly a good distraction against brooding about break-ups. Which, as one might expect, just serves to increase his determination to find mind-numbing intoxicants.]

[Feeling a bit worn down after wandering through endless tasteful and romantic floral arrangements in a fruitless search for the bar, Sinjir flops down on a bench inside... only to find himself something of a butterfly attraction, with a number of the winged creatures alighting on him as if he's a convenient shrubbery, making him flap his hands in protest.] Shoo! Go away! [And then, to an annoying photographer-] No, that would definitely not make a cute picture.

[Sinjir is walking along with a flask full of something in hand (which he obtained somewhere, thank all the gods), and he pauses, squinting at one of the paintings, a bit incredulous as he remarks to a random person-] These are painted by children? Does this look positively obscene to you?

Contrary to popular belief, Arthur is pretty good with kids. He's easygoing with them, happy to play games and otherwise entertain them for short periods of time (as long as he can give them back to their caretakers after a while). So it's not actually that surprising that he would show up to this particular event.

Though he's not really a fan of the pizza - he'll take a vegetarian option, thanks.

In the early evening, he can be found in the gardens, enjoying some fresh air, or even in the art gallery, admiring the young talent.

"This one has shades of Pollack," he may be heard to remark.

And then, later, he has signed himself up for the charity date auction. Will you bid on the mysterious and debonair Arthur?

It's probably a good thing Arthur is good with kids, because the guy trying to take the slingshot from this kid clearly isn't. The hissed attempted at whispered shouting of 'no! stop! the birds aren't target practice!' to try and keep his reprimand at an 'acceptable' level definitely wasn't helping.

That and the kid was easily able to dodge the hands that kept trying to grab him, though he couldn't quite re-aim for the birds while he was on the move. The guy got a small nut to his forehead instead before the kid tucked and rolled and ended up behind Arthur.

[ Free pizza is always free pizza, but that's about where the fun ends for this guy. Sure, he's in a loving, committed relationship but all this Hallmark sweetness isn't really what they do and he's never been good at getting into the wholesome rah-rah school club spirit. Good thing it's in Maurtia Falls or he might've skipped it all together.

But he's here, mostly to make up his mind about registration and partake in said free pizza. He can be found brooding in the periphery of the festivities, making a polite round of the Centre, staying well clear of the date auction while keeping an ear out for other undecided newcomers. ]

He slides right up to the guy with his phone out, having just finished taking a selfie of himself next to the date auction sign. [Ronan, who hates these things in general but can never let a friend down, is mostly here to keep Kyle company. At least this particular swear-in isn't a formal affair, despite the romantic theme, and he gets to dress for sport instead. For most of the day, he's aggressively playing either tennis or dodgeball, though if anyone's willing to fight him, he'll be even happier to do some boxing. Once he's worn himself out with sports, he retires to the cafeteria for pizza, and from there, anyone's free to grab him and drag him elsewhere.]

[The Gray Man normally doesn't go to these things. He's not really looking for a date, what with how he's not quite ready to accept that he might not see Maura again. But these events are good for making connections anyway.

Mr. Gray changes into some gray sporty clothes and goes to the gym to do a bit of working out. That's when he spots Ronan.]

One of the newest imports, a small child dressed in green, with elfin ears and carrying around a small sword and wooden shield can be seen all around the event throughout the day.

In the lobby Link can be found taking a pamphlet from every single person handing one out. He seems to be listening attentively to what's being said to him, but not at all reading the papers. It's more like he's collecting them just because he can.

Later on, Link can be found absolutely dominating his opponents in dodgeball. The kid has a near perfect aim and is incredibly skilled at both dodging the ball and catching it out of mid-air. The fact that he has to use both hands to throw it because it's such a big ball compared to his size, seems to have no impact on his ability to brutalize opposing teams almost entirely by himself. And he has no sense of holding back on his throws, so those hits? They hurt. Sorry for the bruise.

When his team's not up, he can be found trying out some of the others sports and... other than basketball... doing just about as well with them as he does the dodgeball. Unfortunately, he's just a little too tiny for basketball. He can get the ball in the net, but he can't dribble properly because he needs both hands to get it to bounce at all and then it goes everywhere and it's all very sad that he's too small for even that.

Regardless, he does seem to be having fun and will happily smile up at anyone who comes to chat with him between rounds.

Unfortunately he starts to get into trouble in the outdoor gardens when he pulls out his slingshot and takes aim for the birds.

This trouble continues to the indoor gardens when he pulls out his short sword and takes several swings at some of the potted plants and display bouquets, looking very confused when people yell at him to stop.

After getting kicked out of the gardens and sent off to do something more 'constructive' with his time, he finds his way into the art gallery where he starts finger painting a crude picture of a big tree with a big smile and next to it a figure in a white and pink dress. Then an arrow pointing from the tree to the figure.

Skeets is mostly at the swear-in out of habit and is casually floating through when he spots Link going to take a shot at the birds, and he immediately zooms over.

Looking very shifty but also very human, Randall made his way into the Center purposefully avoiding any of the children with their roses. He even glared at some along the way and looked very uncomfortable once in the crowd. In fact, he kept to the walls where possible but he did eventually get to the ceremony itself and registered. For now it seemed like the wisest option to take, keeping all the benefits.

He may be seen earlier acting like a wallflower but he can also be found around the gardens and later perusing the art gallery in which he makes the following remark aloud:

"It isn't very good, is it?"

Link looks up from his very crude drawing of a giant tree (with a face) next to a smaller figure in a pink and white dress and frowns at the man. He'd just finished drawing an arrow pointing from the tree to the figure - to make it obvious the tree had asked him to find the figure, who was a 'princess' - and thought he had done a rather good job on it. One of his best drawings ever.

Link scrunched his face and studied his picture, trying to figure out what was bad about it. Then he looked as though he had an epiphany and added a spot of bright blue next to the tree. There. Finished.

He turned and looked up at the guy, grinning brightly.

[Getaway has maybe the smallest, slightest, most miniscule clue about what Valentines day even is. It all comes from the many hours he, and most other Lost Lighters, spent watching human entertainment. He knows that the holiday is meant to be romantic, and that many cringy "romantic comedies" are placed around this time.

But if he was going to have to exist the way he was currently existing, then he was going to try something he'd always been vaguely curious about.

Baking.

Despite ordinarily being a giant robot with no human concept of taste, Getaway doesn't seem to be doing too badly. He has all the proper ingredients in front of him at least, with maybe one or two things that don't belong, like a bottle of paint thinner and one rotten potato. His human body, that of a woman, squints down at the recipe.]

Say, you wouldn't happen to know what an apple is? That's the one thing missing from this apple pie.

[He asks the nearest person, his accent clearly from New Zealand despite the fact he has no idea what New Zealand is.]

[so riptide had seen getaway's name pop up on the import listings and left the tv show island immediately because he wants to ask getaway some questions* calmly and professionally. that said, once he was back on the mainland, riptide actually realised that it probably won't be that easy to find the guy. he doesn't want to message him and let him know he's coming, where's the fun in that? even if getaway is from a time before the mutiny.

Tina's pretty excited about the opening of the Center. It's youth-focused, and lately, Tina's been feeling like she needs to meet more people her own age, be a teenager, and do some good around the community. It's better than sitting at home and feeling like a depressed lump, anyway. The longer she's there, the more she feels like she wants to volunteer here- especially since she's finally quit her government-assigned job. She hates to lose the money, but her government stipend and any money she makes from cooking should be enough.

Today, she's dressed in a longer skirt than normal, decorated with hearts, and a red shirt with a flowery design on it. Her hairclips also have flowers on them, and she sticks a rose behind her ear after being guilted into buying one. She makes sure to sample some of the more unusual pizzas on offer, though is hesitant to try one topped with pickles.

"Uhm... I'm not sure..."

At the dodgeball court, Tina tries to play honestly, because otherwise her intangibility would let her dominate. Unfortunately, she ends up getting hit in the head and proclaiming "I'm okay!" a lot.

She also goes to the art room and attempts to paint a picture of herself on a horse. It doesn't go well.

"I would be wary of that one as well..." Says Baelish of the pizza. Although, he's also at the same time perusing the pies with uncertainty. This isn't really his go-to food. It's too messy, too greasy. But it's all there is to offer and he's worked up quite the appetite.

"Which of these has your recommendation? I'm surprised so many things can go on these pizzas..."

A: Make your own pie

[Abigail is happy to make her own pie. She busies herself making her own dough, then tosses it in the air, catching it on one hand and spinning it around quickly. There's ingredients lined up in front of her, everything she needs to make her own gourmet pizza and the oven's preheating next to her. She notices someone else moving to work beside her, and she steps to the side, still spinning the dough with ease.]

B: Gardens

[Abigail holds a pamphlet in her hands, given to her when she arrived. The idea of helping teens in trouble is appealing and still on her mind as she explores the gardens. She stops occasionally to look at the flowers and butterflies and catches sight of one of the birds at the feeder. She frowns as she watches it, reminded of her father's nickname.]

Is that a shrike?

[The words are said quietly, intended for herself. She isn't aware that someone might have overheard them.]

C: Art Gallery

[Eventually, Abigail ends up in the art gallery. She takes the time to look at the children's artwork, noting a painting of a couple holding hands. A woman in the pairing is pale with big blue eyes, freckles, a scarf tied around her neck and dark hair. She isn't sure who the other person in the pairing is and assumes it's another import. It could even be someone there tonight. The pictured woman with the scarf is familiar though.]

I think that's supposed to be me.

D: Getting her artistic talent on

[Once she's done staring at the painting of what looks like her with another import, Abigail makes her way to an easel. She's barely old enough to be admitted, and for her it's about the challenge of creating art with paint instead of her pencils, rather than the nudity. She focuses on the model, studying them intently before looking back to the canvas. Picking up her brush, she begins with a few tentative dabs and strokes. She almost hears Hannibal's voice in her mind, telling her she can do better, that she brush stroke is important and whispering to her about anatomy, bone structure all of it. She begins painting with more determination, capturing a glimmer of emotion she saw in the model's eyes, every curve of their body, every aspect until she has a very detailed, life like painting in front of her and she feels a genuine sense of pride.]

E: Auction

[After Abigail's done her painting, she's told she was volunteered for the auction. She feels she can't refuse, since it's to help children in trouble, teens who could have a brighter future than the one she had. So, she joins in with a smile, reminding herself that it's for the kids. At least the dressshe's wearing covers her scar and seems fitting. Hopefully, someone can hold her black coat during the bidding.
She looks at the other imports, wondering if they feel as nervous as her.]

[ Haen hasn't wanted to interrupt, but she's actually been watching from behind Abigail for a little while now, and she looks positively enchanted. She waits until Abigail seems to be finished and has put down the brush - she doesn't want to risk startling her - before speaking. ]

[Friendly volunteers can be found wandering around the different sections of the venue, arms filled with flyers and pamphlets for SELF, a non-profit organization specifically for helping non-humans to adapt to life on this world, answering questions to the best of their abilities and accepting the occasional donation. For the questions they can't answer, they are quick to hand out contact information.]

[The first time Kang had encountered human children on this world, he hadn't known how to handle them. He learned quickly, though, that they really weren't that different from draconian children. He just couldn't be as rough with them, and that was an easy enough adjustment.

He spends most of his time talking and playing with any of the children who approach him, and letting them explain how to play the games as they watch the competitions. A few of them try to get him to sign up for one, but he declines, making the girl sitting on his shoulders and holding on to his horns pout.

The gardens are peaceful, although he does eye the butterflies a little warily. Thankfully, this swear-in's butterflies are normal and harmless.

In the art gallery, he lets a few more kids drag him along and show him their pieces, and all the other ones they really like. He does let them talk him into doing a painting of his own, and after debating for a while, settles on a rough scene of Aurican and several of his metallic siblings flying through the sky. It's very rough - he's much more skilled at charcoal and blueprints than he is living things.]

[Hange has chosen to register this month, and lurks around the festivities afterward, people-watching and keeping an eye out for imPorts it might be interesting to meet.

Kang definitely fits the bill. Hange has a passion for meeting nonhumans, and he looks quite nonthreatening, covered in kids like that, clearly being gentle with them. She approaches.]

[Physical exertion is very much Ashley's thing, and while her superpower is useless for dodgeball, she's getting very competitive with it. Who would have thought that experience running for your life in the marines would come in handy for a game she played in school?]

[Eventually she has to tap out, at which point she tries out the ImPort ImProv. Not having gone undercover at a casino in her universe, she doesn't see herself as an actor, but it looks kind of fun.]

[She checks out the Art Gallery later on, grinning when she recognizes people she knows in the paintings, rolling her eyes when she recognizes herself. There's one that more or less looks like her, but is glowing pink instead of her green, and with activewear and long flowing hair.]

Oh, come on, that's a Heart Kapow Wow! character, not a real imPort! [Beat.] Should kids even be playing that game?

[And thus reminded that there exists a fictional version of her who's a love interest while she herself is very much not getting any, Ashley signs herself up for the date auction, and puts in a few bids herself.]

[After the announcement of the swear in, Sora wasted no time making his way to the scene of the event. His preferred color was always a stylish red. At least in accent, so as far as blending in, the boy was good. You can find him meandering around the facility, watching other imports make pizzas, perform on the stage, or gazing thoughtfully at drawings in the gallery. All the while gently swinging a single rose about in his hand as he's taken on the floor.]

[PIZZA TIME]

[Of course, Sora is drawn to the food. While he is not especially keen on making his own pizza, he is interested in trying some of yours! He approaches the tables with big blue eyes, trying his best to decide on a slice to take.]

I don't even know what to choose..

[THE GYM]

[Sora wastes no time finding his way into the Gym. Any opportunity to show off his athleticism was good enough for him. That, and the opportunity to mingle around people his own age gives him a break from the adults he's been surrounded with as of late.

He's signed up for the dodge ball tournament, but while he waits for his turn, he can be found at a corner of the room, knocking a volleyball joyfully off the wall as he practices his serve.

If you are unfortunate to be pinned against him on the floor, you may be faced with a more than determined grin. And maybe a fiendish sparkles in his eye as he watches you on the other side of the court.]

[ Gold promised that he'd come out and play nice today. Valentine's Day has always been a bit strange for him. It didn't exist as a holiday in the world of his birth, but there were twenty-eight with...nothing, just a cursed man with little time for anything but his work. Then nothing but mourning and anger -- and, well, there was more loss to come.

He has his bad days sometimes where he can't even make himself smile, when he can't seem to make himself stop crying.

He told Emmett once that he didn't know he could ever be happy again. But he could be distracted. He could feel...better. He could enjoy making him happy.

He didn't want this week to be anything like his bad days. So here he was. Trying. And for the most part, succeeding. At present, they're preparing to take a picture for the house. Maybe not for the website. He really didn't care who knew at this point.

He reached to help straighten Doc's tie, already quite put together, himself. ]

A) Pizza!

[ Angus approaches the youth centre with all the cautious trepidation of an explorer making his way through a jungle full of quicksand. He hasn't spent much time around kids his own age, even here in his weird, domestic life, and he isn't sure what to expect...

What he finds, is pizza. God, so much pizza! He's sampled at least two slices already, and is giving his pizza-in-progress a careful, scrutinizing look as he goes over the list of potential toppings. ]

... Pineapple, or no pineapple?


B) CLEAR EYES, FULL SPORTS!

[ One thing that's being made clear today is that Angus has absolutely never played sports before. He doesn't know how to hold a badminton racket, dribbling a basketball is a totally foreign concept to him, he's spent more time chasing after the volleyball than bouncing it over the net, and while he's okay at soccer (and even enjoys it!), he definitely trips over the ball and wipes out at least once. This isn't to say that he's not having fun! All of this stuff is just... new to him, and he's a scrawny nerd who's basically made of toothpicks. He could probably use some help.

Later on, he can be found playing dodgeball, or... well, ok, attempting to play dodgeball, but mostly getting walloped. When he isn't running for his life, he's sitting on the sidelines, wheezing for breath and staring at the madness around him in wide-eyed amazement. ]

... Are you sure this isn't a bloodsport, sir/ma'am?

[The potential to win free food? Hal was going to be there. However the scrawny kid on his team might get in the way of that. He doesn't mind all that much, the kid reminds him of a more weedier version of his younger brother.]

Sometimes I feel like agreeing with you. I'd be more careful about your glasses though, not a lot of people here can aim well.

[ Adachi's sure to keep himself from being too involved in the events going around him, making sure he was available for anyone that wanted to ask him questions. With running for ambassador, he was going to need to get used to keeping himself out there in the public eye. What better way to do that then in the middle of a Swear-in, right? He's definitely sure to be seen picking up information for the youth charities, definitely planning on putting his money where his mouth was. ]

[ To any other potential ambassadors, Adachi is... not much at all to look at. He's short, lanky, and really looks like someone needs to spend a day force feeding him sandwichs. He really looks like he's out of place, and not really sure of himself overall. To anyone that doesn't know him, it really looks like just about any of the other candidates could eat him alive. ]

[ Eventually, though, he's going to be walking around with a small collection of roses from the children selling them. They're mostly pink, but there's a red and a white one half hidden in the middle of the small bunch. ]

[ On the bright side, Adachi's taller than Iris - even when she's wearing heeled boots. She finds him as he's walking around with that small collection of roses, and she can't quite help walking in-step with him too.

As usual, she's poised, keeping her outfit simple with a long sleeved red shirt and black jeans. Even as she walks, she's already pulling out her phone. ]
