OOC NOTE: This post will allow characters to meet Kaneki's power, however I'm looking for less of a shock/horrified meeting and instead something more positive, since I'm looking to have Kaneki see this particular power in a more positive light. If you do want to do something else with it but the prompts don't fit or you would rather play out a different reaction, contact me through PM or plurk vilani.


[ Kaneki's is a ghoul, and like every ghoul he has a special predatory organ which in this world is considered part of his "power" - an extra organ that comes out of his lower back and can take many different shapes and forms. The usual form are four red tentacles or two large centipede tails but because Kaneki is capable of kagune manipulation, it can shape and reshape itself to look more like hands or even "wings". There are many mysteries involving it, from a certain sentience and autonomy, to the fact that no one in Kaneki's world truly knows how they came to appear.

Kaneki doesn't particularly like it. He associates everything that makes him a ghoul as violent and disgusting, something that most do not feel comfortable with (naturally), fear and hate, and in return, kaneki dislikes it as well. A part of himself which he doesn't like or shows, which he tries to keep hidden most of the time because even if he doesn't say it out loud, it's something he fears he will be disliked for. And Kaneki tries so hard not to be disliked.

But before he left, Charles tried to teach Kaneki that he didn't have to hate or dislike a part of himself like that. It's hard, of course, but when someone so promptly tells you that you aren't as disgusting as you think you are, it stays. So, sometimes, when Kaneki thinks no one is looking, he allows the kagune to come out and to just see it, look at it for a while, and even dares to touch it. There isn't much he feels for it still, but at least it's less negative than before, when he only saw it as death.

When he thinks no one is looking, there are actually some places to find him.

OPTION A: roof
Kaneki can be found at a top of a roof not truly looking at anything in particular. When he feels he is alone or that most won't notice his presence, he brings out his kagune - two large centipede tails that rest on his lap and around him. Whenever he touches them, they react, all legs moving and the scales shinning red like a wave passing through the organ. At best he looks curious, watching the reaction. The building isn't very tall, so anyone could easily move to the roof if they are curious enough; or maybe someone is just passing by and notices Kaneki and his weird appendage.

OPTION B: forest
Forests and more rural areas just outside cities and usually where kaneki trains, away from everyone, away from where others would look at him when he is using his "powers". Kaneki's kagune has taken a different form now, wrapping around his shoulders and arms, and protruding like extra legs coming out of his back, and as he stops using it to cut down trees, one of those extra "legs" moves away from kaneki and actually detaches itself from the main body, wrapping around Kaneki's leg. He watches it, focused, and then causes it to move away for a second, before he calls it back to reattach itself. From the looks of it, it tires him a lot to detach the kagune, so eventually he just sits down on the floor with a tiny gasp.

OPTION C: outside the coffee shop
The coffee shop was still closed when kaneki had to bring some new ingredients in; his provides and distributors gave him a call and kindly let what he needed in front of the shop, but most things he has to bring in himself. With super strength isn't hard, of course, and kaneki readily grabs most boxes, but he can be lazy sometimes. So when he thinks no one is looking, he brings out one of his red tentacles and grabs that last box with it. It's much easier like this, honestly, and sometimes, a lot of things would be so much easier if he just used his kagune. ]

[ This wouldn't be the first time Thrawn had seen Kaneki's kagune. But he had seen the centipede tails and had not realized it was even possible for it to detach from Kaneki at all.

A bit amazed, Thrawn is content to stay where he is; standing still with his hands clasped behind his back and simply watching Kaneki. Like a creeper It would be worth noting that while others were uncomfortable with the way he looked back in the galaxy he came from, here others are downright creeped out. The fact his eyes will glow at times probably doesn't help. ]

[ when kaneki feels someone nearby, the appendages immediately vanish into thin air, almost as if they were never there, even if he is certain he was seen just now ]

it's not wise to sneak up upon an imPort. We are all very paranoid. [ and most react violently when they are caught on surprise ]

[ Only moving enough to be visible, Thrawn inclined his head politely. ]

I do beg your pardon, then. It was not my intent to 'sneak up on' you.

[ He does tilt his head to the side a bit. ]

Is that armor always possible? I would think it a very useful thing in battle.

[ kaneki gets up, patting his pants off the dirt that might have stuck to them ] I can shape it as I wish. [ sort of. It's not that simple, but it'd be hard to explain it in any other way ]

It is useful, though. That's what I use it for. [ to battle ]

[ It's past time for Galla to pay a visit to the cafe. She'd promised D33 she would come by for a talk—although she suspected the man was looking forward to it less now after their last couple of talks. In any case she's here now, and...it's too early. Unfortunate.

While she's turning to look for somewhere open to pass the time, however, she spies Kaneki carrying his stack of boxes with the last in his extra appendages. It's almost a familiar sight—if she ignores the modern surroundings. Allen's tentacles had been bound up in his arm instead of his...spine? But it was still enough to bring a wistful smile to her face. ]

Excuse me, how much longer is it until you open?

[ghoulking]

[ when Kaneki hears a voice, the appendage immediately places the box on the floor before it disappears into thin air, almost as if it was never there. He is certain Galla saw it, but nonetheless, he acts as if she didn't - perhaps she will pretend the same as well - and offers the familiar face a small smile ]

Ah- sorry. The coffee shop only opens later into the afternoon, around seven. [ those hours were chosen for the non-human imPorts who couldn't walk under the sun, mostly ] it's a strange schedule, I know.

[ Galla smiles with an air of confusion, glancing from Kaneki to the dropped package. ]

That's quite alright. I should have made an effort to look up the opening times before I came by. But... [ She steps forward and stoops to pick up the package. ] Did you mean to...leave this here?

[ghoulking]

I'll pick it up in a moment, don't worry. [ kaneki still has packages on his hands and he needs to put them down. After he presses his body against the coffee shop door, the door slides open and he smiles back at the woman ]

Come in - I will still serve you some coffee if you'd like, Galla-san.

[Freyja does a lot of wandering when she gets time to do so, and this is no exception to that. She was actually going to try stopping in to see if she could get something to drink anyway. She gasps in surprise when she sees the red tentacles though, but the gasp is quickly followed up with:]

Ehhh, that's so cool!

[ghoulking]

[ it's cool, expect Kaneki doesn't think so. And thus his first reaction to anyone noticing it is make the extra appendage immediately place the box on the floor and disappear into thin air. The only proof it was there is Kaneki's shirt, no longer neatly tightened. ]

Ah- [ WELLP WHAT TO SAY

Kaneki opts to pretend she didn't see anything because pretending is great ]

- The coffee shop is still closed, I'm sorry.

[It's totally cool, though the suddenness at which it disappears surprises her, and his reaction too... Except he's done this so long, so clearly it must just be normal for him to do this? She can move on if he's not into actually talking about it.

It is super cool though.]

When's it gonna open? I can wait!

We have weird hours, I'm sorry-

It only opens at 7pm. [ mostly when the sun is setting yes, so clients who can't walk under the sun can also come in ] It's a bit late than most coffee places, I know.

[fingerchewing]

[ Justine decided to come early to help out. Also, because she's hungry. But she is helping, unpacking the boxes and making sure everything's in its place while the boss brings them inside. Once she's done organizing bottles by blood type, she heads back outside to give him a hand with the rest...

...which he must not need, because there are giant red, scaly, tentacle things picking up the slack. Alright then. ]

What did you say you were, again?

[ Illuminati lizard person? ]

[ said giant red tentacle will disappear as fast as Justine speaks, once the box is safely put on the floor again. Kaneki looks back at the girl for a second, before his eyes avoid her by returning to the boxes he is currently carrying in his hands - and after, he heads to place them on top of a table ]

... ghoul.

Sorry- [ he looks back at her with an apologetic smile ] They are creepy, I know.

[ Not nearly as creepy as eating people, and she's obviously not judging him for that. She looks at him curiously, not with any kind of horror or disgust. Really, just a scientific curiosity. Justine's a huge nerd who graduated high school early because she couldn't wait to take more interesting biology classes. ]

I mean, it's different. What is it?

[ghoulking]

[ "different" is a way to put it, sure. Also sort of Eldritch horror, which is another way of putting it. ]

Uhm- just... an extra organ ghouls have. Called "kagune". [ and they use it to kill people, basically. Of course there is a lot more to it, but Kaneki doesn't have a very positive image of it, so he can't really bring himself to say it can do more than just that ]

[ She had come by in the hopes of some coffee once they opened in a little while, and also to speak with Kaneki, so his name is already halfway through her mouth when she sees him move the boxes. ]

Kaneki, hello. [ It doesn't seem to give her any pause at all, her smile unwavering. ] Is that one of your powers, or from home? It seems very useful.

[ghoulking]

[ The voice is unexpected and Kaneki barely has time to hide his kagune because Padme is already asking about it. He looks back at her, awkwardness taking over him, and also a certain uneasiness, but eventually Kaneki just puts the box on the floor and the extra tendril disappears into thin hair ]

Uhm- yes- [ that doesn't answer her question at all, no. But sure, it's useful, when people aren't looking at it ]

Ah, sorry. The coffee shop is still closed. But I can get you a cup of coffee if you want, Padme. [ maybe if he changes the subject she will pretend she didn't see a giant red tendril carrying a box ]

[ She senses the uneasiness, which is a surprise to her - it hardly seems something to hide, after all. ]

I'm surprised I haven't seen you use it before, it it's as useful as it seems! [ Light and easy, still. ]

I can certainly wait until the shop is open, I know I'm early. Did you need any help unloading these boxes?

Option C

Jonathan was just passing by when he spotted Kaneki. He turned, waving enthusiastically in greeting when he spotted the tentacles.

"Hey!" he said, huge grin on his face. "I haven't seen those since the flooding! I was starting to think they were some kind of special organ that only came out when puppies and kittens were in need."

[ghoulking]

Jonathan has seen the tendrils before, so Kaneki's reaction isn't to immediately hide it when he approaches, but instinctively he pulls the kagune away from the man, as far as he can while keeping it in its current size.

"Hello- yeah" he is a bit awkward about it, that much is clear, and the tendril moves behind Kaneki as if he is trying to hide it. "I guess it was helpful then, right? The puppies and kittens surely appropriated it."

"Yeah, especially the kittens. They definitely did not want to be in all that water."

Jonathan looked at the way Kaneki was trying to move his tentacles behind him, his brow furrowing.

"Is something wrong? It looks like you're trying to hide them."

[ While Kaneki was busy trying to balance everything, he probably didn't get the chance to notice that someone was coming up behind him until there was the sudden sound of feet shuffling to a stop. Yuuri stood there in wide eyed surprise, mouth hanging open slightly as he took in the other young man and the tentacles he was using to grab the box. ]

[ At least he doesn't look horrified, even if he's not saying anything. Just surprised. ]

[ he sure doesn't notice him, to the point he even sprouts out another tendril so it'll open the coffee shop door for him, and just when he is stepping inside, finally kaneki realizes he is being watched.

He stares back at Yuuri, a bit startled at first because he wasn't expecting an audience.

what...... does he say............??? ]

[ It took Yuuri a moment to realize he was being rude, and he let out a faint noise, dipping forward in an apologetic bow. ]

S-sorry! I didn't mean to stare!

[ He peered back up after a moment. ]

...I just. I didn't think I'd find someone else here that had tentacles too.
