WHO: Max Mayfield + ???
WHERE: Heropa #003 + the arcade
WHEN: Backdated to Saturday, Feb. 3rd
WHAT: Meeting her new roommates for the first time + anyone who might happen to stop by for whatever reason, AND anyone who might be at the arcade.
WARNINGS: Will update as needed.
[Open to her new roommates + anyone who might visit]
[She'd spent the night at the beach. There was nothing like camping out under the stars, on the sand, listening to the ocean. It's the best she's slept in awhile. Max makes her way back toward town, to the house they'd taken her to the day before. She rides her skateboard all the way up to the sidewalk, taking it a little slower today than she had the day before -- it takes a lot of focus to slow it down or speed it up, and she wants to get a feel for the surroundings of the town this time. There'll be plenty of time for her to play zoomer later.
She steps off the board, flipping it up into her arms and heading up the steps of the house. She exhales, hoping there's at least something in the kitchen that she scrape together to eat because she's starving. She stands her board up by the door and makes a beeline for the kitchen, yanking open the fridge and peering inside. Sure enough, it seems to be fairly stocked -- she pulls out some lunch meat, cheese, and mustard, building a quick sandwich and eating it over the sink.
After she's done eating, she'll be checking out the rest of the house, because she hadn't really taken a thorough tour the day before.]
[Arcade - Open]
[For a minute she just stands in the entry of the arcade, mouth agape at the variety of games -- most of which she's never heard of before. Holy shit, this is amazing. She makes her way to the nearest one to check it out. Mortal Kombat II. She slips some quarters in and goes to work.]

➤ ROOMMATES
Oh well. To be fair, only one of those he actually bought here; the other, his military school uniform, he'd been wearing when he arrived. The wasted (for now) expense is still annoying, but a necessary evil for him to move in with Mickey.
His bag and board are still resting on and up against (respectively) the couch in the living room, not yet tossed into the room he's claimed for himself because he's been busy dusting and vacuuming it since he woke up; he pauses his cleaning when he hears footsteps, stepping out of the room. ]
Hey Mickey, is there any more stuff I should-- oh. [ It's a girl! Carl blinks, thrown for a second before he continues: ] Who're you?
➤ ROOMMATES
She turns quickly, eyes growing wide at the sight of a boy at the end of the hall. What. For a moment she just stares, but then she recovers, defenses rising instinctively.]
Who are you?
[She folds her arms across her chest.]
HURRGGHH SRY GUYS this month has been hella busy, my mind blanked on this ;;
Which also doesn’t look like it’ll go as easily as Mickey would like, as Carl is now facing off with some carrot top girl in the middle of their living room. ]
The person who lives in this house. [ he announces, halfway down the stairs as he trudges along, a lazy gesture waved towards Carl to indicate him. ] And that’s the tool about to get murdered if he doesn’t quit running that goddamn vacuum before noon.
[ can he trade you in for a lazier Gallagher yet? Mickey rubs the heel of his hand against his eye before squinting at the girl again. ]
New imPort?
aslfjk I was on hiatus myself so also guilty of being slow af ;;
[ --Is how Carl responds first, since Mickey interrupts the two of them before he can introduce himself to the girl. The... new girl? Somehow Carl hadn't even considered the possibility that she might be a new imPort who was moving in with them, but then again, he hasn't been here long enough for that to be his first thought within just a couple of minutes of seeing a stranger in his house.
He looks from Mickey back to Max, still squinting in mild confusion, but then says: ]
But what he said. [ About living here, that is. ] I'm Carl, that's Mickey. Are you gonna be like, living here from now on?
no subject
This is where they brought me, so I guess so.
[Considering Eleven hates her for reasons unknown and she's not about to go groveling to stay there. She doesn't grovel to anyone.]
I'm Max.
fdsfkl;a wow tracking this thread would've been helpful, ty self
jesus christ, really? ]
Max. Uh. Yeah. [ a beat, a glance around. ] Yeah. Okay. So, Carl grabbed this room, there's a couple more upstairs. One used to be Betty so, I dunno, maybe she left some... girl stuff.
[ ???? what do you even do with preteen girls? him and his sister just always beat each other up, but he was a preteen boy at the time, so the memory is a little fuzzy. ] And if you see anything that looks like it might be dangerous, just... don't touch it.
[ aka, the guns. which mickey will now shuffle over to the coffee table to pick up. and go searching for a lock box. YOU COULDN'T THINK TO CLEAN THAT PART UP, HUH, CARL??? ]
no subject
Oh, shit. Right. ]
Uh. Yeah. If you're gonna actually be staying here we'll keep all out shit out of your way, don't worry-- but if you don't know what something is then probably just leave it alone. Don't accidentally shoot yourself in the arm or anything.
[ Carl knows a bit about living with preteen girls, having grown up with a sister who's as close to anyone can be in age without being twins, so he tries to rewind back a few years and remember what to expect. Max even sort of looks like Debbie-- mostly the red hair more than anything else. Weird.
Anyway, buying time while Mickey is putting shit away, Carl adds: ]
Oh, and there's a pool out back. Did you see it yet?
just gonna slide this in real quick hurk --
[ Mickey motions them, tucking the pistol he just grabbed from the coffee table into the bad of his sweat pants at the small of his back. yeah, pay no attention the that. Pool! everyone loves pools!! ]
For, like, 30 minutes, fuck, I dunno.
[ he can probably clean all this up in 30 minutes, right? the really bad stuff, at least??? ]
And they were ROOMMATES
Things were a little more settled in this world. A little more permanent it seemed. They had given him a home, a room. And for now, that's where he has been. Sitting on his bed in the canvas of a dorm, coming to terms with what his life is going to be like for now.
That is until he hears someone moving around outside.
Sora hops to his feet and walks cautiously down the hall toward the kitchen. Not worried about danger, but not wanting to seriously startle anyone who might be moving about. Seeing a young woman about his age is a bit of a relief for him.]
Hey! [He offers a wave to the girl before him] You live here, too?
Heeeey Roomie!
I just got here yesterday. Is this -- your house? It's where they brought me to stay.
[There's a hint of unease because Max isn't great with people in general, let alone strangers. She hadn't realized she was going to be sharing the house. She wonders if she missed that part of the tour. Probably. Once she found out she had super powers, the rest kind of went in one ear and out the other. It makes sense. What world's government could afford a giant house for every single person who shows up here?]
no subject
Well it's a house, that's for sure! They just brought me here the other day. I saw there were a few doors, so I figured I wouldn't be alone. But I haven't met any other roommates.
[He laughs, gesturing toward her.] Well, besides you!
[He looks a bit perplexed then, reaching up and scratching the back of his head.] Yesterday...? But I didn't hear anyone come in at all...
no subject
I haven't either. [She wonders how many people are actually living here. In De Chima, she knows there are at least six people in one of the houses and wow, that's...a lot under one roof.]
I didn't stay. I left pretty much as soon as they dropped me off. [She shrugs a little.]
no subject
[At least he's being honest. Clearly this girl has a bit more will to wander. That's the type of adventurous spirit Sora can admire!]
I'm Sora, by the way. What's your name?
no subject
I'm Max.
[She wipes her hands off on her jeans from the bread crumbs and holds it out for him to shake.]
no subject
Max. [He nods, committing the name to memory now.] It's nice to meet you!
no subject
[She gives him a tentative smile, trying to decide if he's someone who's trustworthy or not.]
Where are you from, back home?
no subject
[He smiles fondly, shrugging it off as he gestures toward her.]
What about you?
no subject
California. Santa Barbara area.
[It's still her home even if they'd moved to Indiana a few days before she got here. Her dad's still in California.]
no subject
California? I've never heard of that. What's it like there?
no subject
Oh wow. [She supposes it makes sense -- she's never heard of where he's from, he's never heard of where she's from. Different worlds, infinite possibilities.]
It's beautiful. It's not an island, but there's water all along one entire side of the state. The ocean. Lots of beaches, warm weather. Kinda like here in Florida?
no subject
I used to fall asleep right up against the water all of the time. That kind of scenery just puts me at ease.
[He smiles fondly, thinking about his little island again.]
Yeah, I guess it's sorta intense for a name. But I just grew up knowing it that way...
no subject
[She'd literally done just that the night before.]
What's it like?
