WHERE: Heropa 15 (or on the way there)

WHAT: Bringing Koromaru home
WARNINGS: shouldn't need any?

[ You may have noticed, if you live in Heropa 15, that Shinjiro never came home on Friday. If you're Jaime or Yusuke, it's entirely possible your first thought was something along the lines of, "Did he move back out into an alley?" Fortunately, that's not the case at all. ]

A.
[ It's possible you might run into him while he's walking back home from the porter, a Shiba Inu following along beside him. He doesn't have a leash on the dog, but he seems perfectly content to follow along with Shinjiro. The dog barks up at Shinjiro, and he stops walking for a moment and crouches down to pet the dog. ]

Yeah, I missed you too boy.

[ Eventually Shinjiro makes it home— it's late in the evening, perhaps later than some roommates might be awake. He's trying to be quiet, but Koromaru lets out an excited bark, his tail wagging eagerly. Shinjiro lifts his finger to shush Kormaru. ]

It's late, you need to keep it down. People might be sleeping.

[ Koromaru whines, his tail curling downwards. Shinjiro sighs. ]

You don't have to look at me like that. I'm not angry.

[ Yusuke definitely noticed, and even put in the work of trolling through downtown Heropa for any beanie wearing teenagers sleeping behind dumpsters. He didn't find any.

When Shinjiro gets home, Yusuke is laying on the couch, half-watching a nature documentary while he plays around on his phone. You know, as teenagers do. He glances towards the door, expecting it to be Jaime, and shoots upright when he sees that it isn't. ]

Shinjiro-san! You came back.

[ Shinjiro glances up, his head jerking slightly from the surprise. In retrospect, he's not sure why he didn't expect Yusuke to be up. He's not sure the artist has anything even remotely resembling a normal sleeping schedule. ]

Yeah, I'm back. I didn't expect to be so long, but—

[ Koromaru barks at his side, his tail wagging. Shinjiro crouches beside him and pets him. ]

...I had to meet up with someone.

[ Yusuke stands, even though he's tired, he smiles, because?? This dog is too cute. ]

Is this Koro-chan?

[ Something around Shinjiro's eyes softens a little when he's looking at Koromaru, and he nods slightly. ]

Yeah, this is Koromaru. Koromaru, meet Yusuke.

[ Koromaru barks again, his mouth open and tongue lolling out just slightly as he wags his tail. ]

Shhh.

[ Jaime's own dogs are gonna get riled up! Yusuke saunters over to the other side and crouches down, holding his hand out for this very good boy to sniff before he pets him. Nothing but the best pets, of course.

[ Koromaru cautiously sniffs Yusuke's hand, then sits patiently as he gets his pettings. His eyes are closed and his tail is wagging, clearly enjoying himself. ]

I hope no one minds a new roommate.

[ Please don't tell his cat transforming beau that he's more of a dog person... ]

I certainly don't. How does he get along with other dogs?

[ Shinjiro's lips are sealed. ]

Pretty well for the most part. Koromaru gets along with most almost anyone except bullies and Shadows.

[ And Kanji, but that might have been more of an overeagerness thing, and anyway Shinjiro doesn't remember that. ]

Everything should be fine, then. Did you go home?

[ Shinjiro shakes his head slightly. ]

I think it was just a glitch... But it brought me Koromaru, so I can't complain.

He does not seem nearly as perturbed about his arrival as I was.

[ Koromaru settles down on the ground, resting his head on his paws. ]

It takes a lot to phase Koromaru.

Is he still a Persona user, here?

Yeah... Though it looks like his Persona's a lot more limited than it was back home.

Limited? How so?

He can only use a couple of his skills. I don't see why he'd need to use any of them that much though, so it's not like it's a big deal.

You don't see why? Just last weekend, someone turned Maurtia Falls into a jungle. If Goemon hadn't had his ice abilities, I would have been uselessly hacking away with a sword.

[ This is the face of a guy that paid absolutely no attention to the news. ]

Alright.... You've got me there.

[ Honestly. ]

You don't check the network at all, do you?

[ Shinjiro shrugs slightly. ]

Maybe once or twice a week at most. I'm not usually that interested.

Well, Jaime and I got through it most of unscathed.

[ In case he was wondering, which he clearly was not, because he wasn't paying attention! ]

Yeesh, I get the point. I'll pay more attention.

[ Shinjiro rubs at the back of his head for a moment before dropping his hand back into his pocket with a sigh. ]

I am glad you two didn't get hurt.

Good.

[ That's all he asks. ]

Do you need anything, to get him settled in?

I'm going to need to ask Jaime for some dog food until I can buy some myself.

[ Or make some, but you know. ]

Other than that.... got anything I can use as a dog bed for the night?

I have an extra pillow that you can use.

[ Shinjiro gives a brief nod. ]

Yes, that will work. Thank you. C'mon, Koromaru.

[ Koromaru lifts his head back up and stands up, tail wagging. ]

[McCree tends to keep weird hours anyway, and he's still up, heading back to the house himself after a late night when he spots the familiar beanie covered head, though not the dog trotting beside him.]

[He pauses a moment before deciding to greet him, it wasn't like they were friends, but company was never a bad thing, especially if they were going back to the same place.]

Shinjiro-san. Ain't seen you 'round in a bit, guess I jes kept missin' ya.

[He looks down at Koromaru with a smile]

Nice dog, looks like a smart un.

[There does seem to be something preternaturally intelligent about the dog, moreso than other ones he's met.]

[ Shinjiro tilts his head slightly; a nod of acknowledgement. ]

Hey... I tend to stick to myself a lot, so that probably doesn't help with catching me around.

[ Koromaru doesn't have a leash, but neither does it seem like he needs one. He barks up at McCree, his tail wagging. Shinjiro smiles down at the dog. ]

Alright, alright... This is Koromaru. He's going to be living with me now.

Yeah, I been comin' and goin' at strange hours m'self.

[He shrugs, because one of the perks of being an adult that's not in the military is that so long as you're not doing anything illegal, no one particularly cares when you come and go. Which is nice.]

[He crouches down in front of the dog, holding a hand out for him to sniff, close enough that he'll get the idea, but not so close that he's likely to take it as a threat.]

Nice t'meetcha Koromaru.

[He figures the dog is just pretty smart and Shinjiro likes to talk to it like it understands people. But hey, he's nothing if not polite.]

[ Koromaru is pretty smart— though the only person he knows who can really communicate with the dog is Aigis. But she's back home and not here, and Shinjiro has a habit of talking to Koromaru out loud. He's been a good teammate and companion, and Shinjiro respects the dog. ]

It's not a big deal as long as no one wakes up, right?

Shinjiro's generally a quiet person anyway, but he always tries harder when he has roommates.

[ Koromaru sniffs McCree's hand cautiously, then looks up at him with an expectant look, his tail still wagging. ]

[McCree shrugs, but then he smiles and starts to scratch Koromaru behind the ears]

So long as y'ain't gettin' in trouble I gotta come getcha out of, I don't see how it's my business. I ain't yer dad.

[ Shinjiro lets out an inelegant snort at that. ]

Never had one of those, anyway. Never needed one, either.

[He shrugs]

You weren't missin' nothin'.

[He stands back up, one of his knees popping, making him grimace. He brushes off the knees of his jeans, resettling his serape and hat with a yawn]

Must be gettin' old. Usedta stay up til the sun was up, now I'm already tired.

[ Personally, Shinjiro agreed on not missing out. Koromaru whines when McCree stops scratching behind the ears, but Shinjiro keeps walking at Koromaru stays along with him. ]

It's important to get enough sleep, anyway. Going to bed too late can really make you suffer the next day.

[ He should know, he's rarely able to get enough sleep... Not that he's going to bring that up. ]

[McCree raises an eyebrow as he walks along beside him]

You sayin' that outta experience, or you tryin' ta make sure an old man takes care of himself?

[ Shinjiro lets out a brief laugh, though the smile doesn't last. ]

Maybe it's a little of both.
