[Sabriel liked to practice magic. There was a kind of satisfaction in drawing the marks out of the Charter and arrange them like a dozen constellations around her, the marks swirling around each other in an intricate dance. She hadn't bothered to to turn the light on in the kitchen, but the marks were bright enough to see by, casting strange shadows and illuminating the room with gold and silver light.]

[ Thrawn was returning to 007 and ended up seeing the light almost by accident. Upon entering the kitchen and seeing Sabriel at work, he grew silent and still. With hands clasped behind his back, Thrawn watched the light dance in complex patterns. He stayed patiently silent as he watched Sabriel work, not wanting to disturb her. And though his facial expression gave away nothing, he was inwardly awed by the strange, bright marks. ]

[When Sabriel spotted Thrawn, she jerked her head up, but recovered before the magic went awry. She shifted her fingers, letting the spell continue.]

Fairly often. I've been studying magic most of my life, so it's something... familiar. And I never know when something will happen.

To be perfectly honest, binding spells were what I spent the most time studying, although my teacher tried to teach us a broad range of spells. I always saw battle magic as being simple- and it is, but it's also useful.

Spells designed to restrain, imprison, and seal powerful supernatural forces. Some things can't be killed, so locking them away- or just restraining them- is the best substitute.
