[adult parties? i believe they're called orgies]

WHO: Rosa Diaz, Jake Peralta, Charles Boyle, AND YOU!
WHERE: Maurtia Falls #009(9) - get it?
WHEN: Friday, Jan 5
WHAT: HOUSE PARTY!
WARNINGS: Who knows? Will update as needed.

The invitations have been sent out over the network and to people with whom the 99 has gotten friendly. The party's official start time is 7pm, but it's open to interpretation - show up whenever you want!

There'll be apps and hors d'oeuvres galore, courtesy of one Charles Boyle, including his famous meatballs. You might hear him asking people what they think of his balls and/or if his balls were good in their mouth. He means the food. He always means the food.

Rosa has gotten enough alcohol to get all of the Porter cities trashed three times over, but feel free to bring whatever you want if you're in that kind of mood. She's gotten the usual selection: beer, wine, some $8 "wine drink," good whiskey, the cheap ass Chinese whiskey Jake tends to buy, scotch, gin, vodka, and just about all the varieties of said alcohol she could get her hands on. She's even got a number of bottles of tequila and has broken out the iron to see if she can finally try and make tequila steam.

As for Jake ... who knows what he's got planned? There are two pong tables, a table for flip cup, a smaller table for Quarters, and another small table for Kings. Rosa told him to go fucking hogwild, so only time will tell as to what Peralta's got up his sleeve.

The later it is into the night, the louder the music, the more drunk the people, and the more shit Rosa's gonna be breaking with her super-strength.

NINE-NINE!

We, uh, worked together on a mission or two back home, [ Magnus says, rubbing at the back of his neck with one hand. He hates this secrecy, especially without the Voidfish around to help cover up their tracks. He's never been a particularly skilled liar. Everything about Magnus is big and broad, and always has been, ever since he was a kid; big eyes, big stomach, and a big old heart he wears on his sleeve, emotions always vivid on his broad, earnest face. He's capable of subterfuge when necessary, but not when he's talking to someone he'd quite like to regard as a friend one day, not an enemy. ]

So - say, if holding office ain't the thing you need to be a politician, then what is? Always figured that was the definition.
functusofficio: (p: asking you to stay)

[personal profile] functusofficio 2018-01-26 11:30 am (UTC)(link)
That sounds very interesting. [ But it also seems like something he's not comfortable talking about, so she smiles, charming and easy as she dismisses it. ] It's so interesting how many adventures we've all had back home, only to come here and make new ones with new people, isn't it?

[ A pause of consideration for the question. ]

I think holding office is the generally accepted one, but I consider those who work behind the scenes -- bureaucrats, counselors, close advisors of those in office -- to be quite as political as those who hold the actual office.

Okayyyy, but that's all, like, government shit. If you don't actually work for the government, you can't exactly be a politician, right? [ Magnus arches a brow, though he looks more interested than anything else. Political leaders are either born into their roles or elected - and people like Magnus, people like Lucretia, they chose neither. They took their own willpower, their own force of convictions, and created something outside of government to fight for, and people wound up following them, for better or for worse.

In Magnus' case, it was for worse. For Lucretia... Magnus can only hope it turns out better than his go at it. ]

We're more the freelancing types.
functusofficio: (p: but you're quicksand)

[personal profile] functusofficio 2018-01-29 02:31 pm (UTC)(link)
If you want to be pedantic, I suppose not. She doesn't work for any governmental agency? [ Genuinely surprised. Padme honestly thought Lucretia must have, in some aspect. Interesting. ]

Ah, I see. May I ask what sort of freelancing? It must have been interesting work, based on what I know of the two of you. I can hardly see either of you doing anything boring.

I guess I do, whatever that means!

[ Magnus does not have a large vocabulary. He is a simple man. ]

I'm, uh... not sure how much I can say? Client-worker confidentiality, and all that stuff, [ Magnus says, scratching idly at his cheek. He knows exactly how much he can and should say, which is why he's just going to play dumb for now. ] But, like, I do mercenary work, if that's what you're asking. It's pretty standard, where I'm from.
functusofficio: (n: and i would follow you home)

[personal profile] functusofficio 2018-02-03 06:57 am (UTC)(link)
[ She was absolutely going to give him a definition, and then she sort of pauses and reconsiders that. They've all been drinking anyways, and even if they hadn't been she feels trying to explain pedantic to Magnus would be slightly odd. ]

Oh, certainly. I can understand that, it can be quite complicated. Mercenaries are not uncommon where I come from, either - we've been at war too long for there to not be quite a few groups.

I would have thought it would be slightly difficult to find work in that line here, though.

[personal profile] burlyboy 2018-02-04 07:40 am (UTC)(link)
You're tellin' me. Looked into it for a while and it all looks, uhhhhhh... super shady? I'm not really, like, a war kinda merc. Or a crime merc, I guess? More like odd job shit.

[ Magnus... has been known to enjoy a fight or two, but he usually doesn't actively seek to kill other people. Well. Usually. It depends on his mood, or on what the other dude is doing, but he certainly doesn't go out to kill random chumps 'cause he was paid to do it. ]

Soooooo that was a no on merc work here. I'm a wrestler! And a bouncer, if work's runnin' thin.

[personal profile] functusofficio 2018-02-06 01:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh! Then perhaps -- [ she pauses, considering, trying to determine where he would lie in her definition of things from what he's said ] perhaps more like a bounty hunter? Not that they can't be war mercenaries themselves. So perhaps more like a smuggler.

I don't think our universes quite line up in how they define people's jobs, it sounds like.

[ She laughs at that, though. ]

Well, those are certainly both jobs I can see you fulfilling quite well. I'm glad you've found something that suits you, here.
burlyboy: (a :> boy)

[personal profile] burlyboy 2018-02-08 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, oh, smuggler! I like the sound of that one! Hell yeah, I'd be a smuggler in your world, [ Magnus says, eyes lighting up and liquid sloshing in his cup as he gesticulates with cheerful, broad gestures. He's not really sure what smuggling entails, but it sounds pretty cool. Swashbuckling. ]

But, uh, yeah, I'm pretty happy I got shit that works for me here too. There's not so many people who're like hey get this cool thing from this dangerous cave around here, so entertaining people's about as good as it's gonna get. Fun, too. You should come to one of my shows one day!
functusofficio: (n: this daydream is dangerous)

[personal profile] functusofficio 2018-02-11 10:27 am (UTC)(link)
[ She laughs, easy and amused. ] If part of your job is going and getting dangerous things for other people, smuggler definitely sounds like the word we would use for you where I come from.

Perhaps I will come to one of them. You'll have to explain what wrestling is to me a little first - I've only heard that applied to animal fights, which I've never had reason to watch. I imagine that, too, is different here though.

[personal profile] burlyboy 2018-02-12 08:44 am (UTC)(link)
Oh! It's, uh, like a play where people fight! We're basically actors. I'm I'Morko - that means the Bear in Elvish - and I have feuds with, like, four other guys. We yell at each other for a while before we get into it.

[ ...yeah, that seems to explain it pretty well! The storylines they conduct aren't exactly complicated or even good, but they all commit themselves with a fervour, and that's usually enough for their audience. That, and they're quite a sight to behold once they go flipping around the ring. ]

But don't go around telling people it's all make-believe, yeah? A lot of the kids are pretty damn convinced I'm actually a guy who goes around wearing a bear mask twenty-four-sev.
functusofficio: (p: this hope is treacherous)

[personal profile] functusofficio 2018-02-25 07:41 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, goodness! That does sound like it could be very entertaining.

[ She laughs, lifts one finger to her lips. ]

I won't say a word, Magnus. Your secret is safe with me.
burlyboy: (a :> boy)

[personal profile] burlyboy 2018-02-27 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
Good. Just tell me when you wanna come and watch, and I'll get you in, my treat. Not that it's real expensive. [ It's not - it's just the principle of the thing. It just seems like it's a nice welcome to get people in for free. ]

Might be a little low-brow for you. What d'you do for fun, anyway?

[ What do politicians do for fun? Magnus has a fanciful idea of them having grand feasts in grand castles, watching plays and operas or whatever, and... well, that's about it. It's as distant from him as being a Tiefling would be. ]
functusofficio: (o: getting swept away)

[personal profile] functusofficio 2018-03-02 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd love to come watch, and if you can get me in even better.

[ She's not actually kidding, even with the alcohol. It sounds like fun. ]

Low brow? It's entertainment. And it sounds like it's rather interesting. [ She pauses, considers. ]

Not a great deal, really - I'm afraid I work a great deal and then relax at home. But I do enjoy these gatherings, and seeing what my friends are doing. And what you're describing sounds like it would be very interesting to watch.
burlyboy: (a shirtless boy)

[personal profile] burlyboy 2018-03-03 10:03 am (UTC)(link)
Aw, it's a hell of a time. More fun doing it than watching it, but watching ain't bad, [ he says, giving her a roguish sort of wink. It's mildly flirtatious, but only in the way that many things Magnus does is mildly flirtatious, as though it's just a thing he does to pass the time than anything with any intention whatsoever. ]

Relax at home - is that it, really? Sounds to me like you could use a hobby. Get those creative juices flowing.
functusofficio: (p: this hope is treacherous)

[personal profile] functusofficio 2018-03-07 01:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Next time I have a free evening when you're fighting, I'll be there.

[ She laughs a little at the wink, takes it in the spirit she thinks it is intended. There's something disarmingly cheerful and easy going about Magnus, in a way that doesn't make her think he's actively trying to flirt with her, more that he's simply a person whose personality is magnitudes too large for even his large body. ]

My job tends to be stressful enough that relaxing is needed. Though I have been listening to more music lately. And cooking. I've been learning how to cook.
burlyboy: (a sentimental boy)

[personal profile] burlyboy 2018-03-11 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
Aw, everyone should listen to more music! If you like listening to it, you oughtta try making it one day. Learning an instrument can be tricky, but everyone's got one in 'em already, [ Magnus says, tapping at the side of his throat. He does, in fact, know how to play music (and how to read music, which makes little sense to him considering his trouble with letters, but evidently there's something to putting sounds to symbols), but he's happy enough singing as well. Hell, he'll probably rope Padme into a folk song or two later, if she lets him. ]

Cooking, not so much. Between Taako and Tina, I'm not learning how to cook and I'm getting fat, [ he says, cheerfully patting his stomach with the air of someone who never learned the concept of having a few extra pounds being a bad thing. You spend enough time on the road and you learn that having a little something around the middle just indicates a happy and healthy life, with enough plenty to go around. ]
