o candlenights o candlenights
WHO: Lucretia & the TAZ cast, Tina and guests ! Basically if you're a friend of anybody involved you're invited! You could also crash the party, it's all good.
WHERE: Maurtia Falls #4
WHEN: December 21st
WHAT: CANDLENIGHTS PARTY IN THE HOUSE
WARNINGS: NAH BRAH, it's Candlenights !!
It's Candlenights at Lucretia's!
The main floor is open to guests(but not the rooms or definitely not her room which is enchanted and attempting to open the door will simply reveal more doors) and is decorated by real life candles and illusory sparkling lights that drift around like fireflies. There's silver garlands tastefully decorating the halls and walls, and her alarm bells have been shined with little bows attached to them.
In the living room, there is a large Candlenights bush with candles in it and in the center of the bush is a wooden statue of the Void Fish that Magnus had carved, lit up from within with all sorts of colourful lights that move slowly, like a classy version of a disco ball.
There's music, which is light and classical at first but the player is right there and like a jukebox the music might change during the night to all sorts of things.
Food has been provided, of course, courtesy of Taako and some things Lucretia herself purchased. There's sweets and treats, gingerbread, shortbread and macarons. For main dishes, there's a large ham and a roast, along with various side dishes of vegetables, sweet potatoes, and sides. For drinks there is wine, mead, fruit juice, Italian soda, hot chocolate, coffee and hot apple cider. There's been an alarm spell cast on the alcohol so if anyone underage tries to drink any, all the bells nearby start ringing furiously.
It's traditional, but not required, to exchange presents, and Lucretia has provided a table to put them on until you're ready to exchange gifts.

Merle Highchurch - ota
By the end of the night, he's passed out in a corner, snoring away, the package of breathe right strips Taako gave him lying unopened next to his prone form. ]

She approaches with her wrapped gift, which is obviously a medium-sized canvas but she tried. ]
Merle, I'm glad you could make it.
no subject
Director. Aw, it was no trouble. The traffic wasn't so bad, getting here. [ Walking next door... ]
Is that for me?
no subject
Congratulations, you got it in one. I'm afraid you no longer work for me so no Candlenights Bonus for you, but I hope you appreciate a gift regardless.
[ She holds it out for him - when he unwraps him it'll be a smiling portrait of himself in his beach clothes, of course. ]
no subject
Aw, Boss! It's great-- [ He stops himself, clears his throat, then continues in a more gruff Character Voice. ] I mean, you really captured my good side.
no subject
Every side is your good side, Merle. Happy Candlenights.
no subject
[ He grins. ]
Happy Candlenights, Lucretia.

shoddily handmade. ]I've been meaning to ask -- how, uh, how have you been settling in?
no subject
Oh, yanno. Well enough I suppose. It's not like it's hard, finding yourself on a new planet. 'Specially when you've got friends around.
Tina Belcher | OTA
When the prep is done, she helps carry the food next door, before going back to change. She takes her time to get ready before shyly entering Lucretia's house again; she's dressed in a flowing red Santa-themed dress, and her usual yellow hair clip has been replaced by a candy cane-striped one. She's also put on some red lipstick and blush. Because forget boy troubles- it's Candlenights, she's with her friends, and she's going to be and feel beautiful.]
[OOC NOTE: Tina still believes in Santa Claus, so if the topic happens to come up I'd prefer to keep the illusion for now. Thanks for indulging.]
no subject
[ Lucretia comes up to her, holding something behind her back. ]
Your dress looks very rad.
no subject

[ She pulls out her gift from behind her back and holds it out delicately. ]
Consider this either a Candlenights or Christmas gift, whichever you, uh, prefer.
no subject
Thank you! For thinking of me, and for the present, and for hosting us. I've been missing my family a lot lately, but... this is nice. I feel a lot less lonely with all of you around.
no subject
[ Inside the package is a painted portrait of Tina - surrounded by lights. It's a finished version of the sketch she'd started earlier that month. ]
no subject
I feel like I got very lucky, ending up where I did. All of you have treated me like I'm one of the group ever since I got here. I've never felt left out just because I'm not from your world, and that means a lot to me.
no subject
I believe you probably have the boys to thank for that. Don't tell them -- particularly Taako who will absolutely deny it -- but they're all softies to the core. ...Usually, at least.
[ She should really get them to stop bullying Angus. ]
no subject
They've never really tried to hide it around me, at least. They both took care of me when I was sick last month. ... I don't think I'd have done as well as I have here without them.

with the presents deposited he takes to examining everything, from the statue to the illusions with a plainly curious look. if anyone from adventure world comes up they will probably be sucked into unfortunately interrogation] What is Candlenights exactly? Is it a solstice tradition? What is this carving of?
[there is one gift he keeps with him, and yeah it's christmas crackers. anyone may be offered one end to possibly get a cheap, weird toy and a cool paper crown when they pull.]
no subject
no subject
Ah, from a world more similar to this one then? [he walks over, offering her a cracker. ] As do I, though being a priest makes Christmas celebrations rather mandatory.
no subject
Mmhmm! I mean, without the superpowers and stuff. Oh, I guess it would! It must be nice to have something familiar to look forward to, though. Uhm, what do I do with this thing? [She gestures at the cracker, having never seen one before.]
no subject
You've never seen a cracker? Ah, well hold one end- [he reaches over to take the other end and-
pop, when the cracker rips in half it does so with that sound and the slightest puff of smoke, and out falls a paper crown, a piece of paper with a very bad joke, and a small toy that looks like those puzzle rings you have to pull apart and put back together.
the bigger side is on tina's end and pucci nods.] You have the bigger half so you won, the bounty is yours. I believe this is more a British tradition but my family was always fond of it regardless.
no subject
Wow, thanks. We should all adopt this tradition over here, if it involves prizes.
no subject
Still, she pulls her gaze away to answer Pucci's questions. Well, maybe not all of them. She dodges the question about the void fish. ]
Candlenights is a pan-religious holiday. The world we are from has many gods and religions -- I believe we've spoken about this before? Since many of them had their own, uh, winter traditions around midwinter, it became... easier to have a holiday which encompasses all of them. People can celebrate their own individual traditions during Candlenights, but be assured that everyone they know is celebrating Candlenights as well.
no subject
[back to info dump hell yeah.] That's quite the progressive holiday then. My own time is hardly ready for such things- people often get worked up over 'attacks' on their holiday of choice. [he shakes his head.]
So I suppose this is as much a Christmas celebration as any other. Do you have any particular traditions?
OTA!!
He storms into the party as he is wont to do, with an entire sack of presents hanging off of his shoulder as he crows, ] Happy Candlenights!
[ His eyes gleam as he looks upon the feast in front of him. The only thing better than a feast is one he had absolutely no hand in making, and this definitely fits the bill. ]
Living with Taako's gonna get me fat, [ he says, bounding on forward, but he doesn't exactly sound displeased about it. He's already got a comfortable layer of fat on him, and from the frequency with which he rips his shirt off, it's not something that bothers him. ]
no subject
[ Lucretia is approaching with a medium-sized rectangular package herself, wrapped in white with red ribbon. ]
Did you... did you, uh, fix that sweater yourself?
no subject
[ Magnus grabs the hem of his sweater and stretches it out a little so he can look at it properly, albet from an upside-down perspective. ]
They didn't have any Candlenights sweaters out there, so I hadda improvise. You like it? It's been years since I've worked with fabric.
[ He'd learned knitting and embroidery, once upon a time. It had nothing on woodworking, but he'd enjoyed it well enough, and he had a mighty fine time stitching the letters onto this too. ]
no subject
[ Dodge, dodge, dodge the question. ]
no subject
[ It's okay; his enthusiasm hasn't dimmed one iota by her dodging, even though he knows she's dodging. It's about the process, not about the product! ]
I used to knit, too. Gotta get back into that shit now that I got the time for it.
no subject
Did you sew that yourself? It looks nice.
Angus McDonald - ota!!
Happy Candlenights sir/ma'am!
[ He's probably asleep in that chair by the end of the night, let's be honest. ]
no subject
Happy Candlenights, Angus.
no subject
Same to you, Madame Director! Thank you for hosting the party!
