Feastgiving

WHO: Ned Stark and You
WHERE: The Stark Family Farmhouse
WHEN: Backdated to November 23
WHAT: A feast! Of sorts...
WARNINGS: None atm, but you know how those GoT people are

It doesn't really have anything to do with Thanksgiving. It's a nice idea - setting aside a special time to remember to be thankful for what one has. But it seems rather odd to him that such a day should come only once a year. Ned is inclined to think a man ought to be grateful for what he has every day. He certainly is.

But the gratitude seems to be secondary anyone. Everyone he's talked to about it has spoken less of the actual giving of thanks and more of something else, the part that truly interests him.

The feasting.

He'd never been one to enjoy such things before. He'd considered them something of a waste, in fact. Unnecessary frivolity. But that was before he had died; before he'd come here.

Now, he couldn't help but think how long it had been since he had last attended a feast, and how many of the familiar faces that had been there were faces he would likely never see again. It was all so fleeting - even here, where the dead could walk again. If one had cause to celebrate - any cause at all - and the company of family and friends, any of whom could be gone tomorrow, it seemed to him one ought to take advantage.

Of course, it had quickly become clear that the sort of feast he was used to wouldn't be possible here - not without a lot more planning. But he was able to improvise. There was a market he passed on the way to work that was selling, conveniently enough, an entire Thanksgiving Feast, already prepared. And it included a pie made from those fascinating "pumpkin" things.

He bought several bottles of wine, as well. And the thrift store he frequented provided an extra table and chairs, all of which folded for convenient transportation, which he thought very clever. There wasn't space in the house, of course, so he set them up outside. And though he only specifically invited a few people outside the immediate family, he won't be turning anyone away.

So if this store-bought Thanksgiving dinner laid out on a folding table in this guy's yard looks inviting, come get you some. Just mind your manners. That sword is real.
