[ it's her birthday, not that jessica jones has divulged that detail to anyone. she's never been a fan of celebrating, even if trish insisted otherwise. now that the other woman is here too, she suspects she won't be able to escape the tradition, not with her crapass luck.
she turns off her phone the night before to prepare, planning to drink the entire day away. her plan backfires, however, by the sound of abrupt knocking at her front door. with a heavy sigh, she stands up from the couch in the living room to reluctantly answer.
just as she suspected, her best friend is there to greet her. rise and shine, jones. ]
No.
[ that's it. one simple word to depict exactly how she feels right now. screw her life. ]

But she takes that as her cue to not let her sister and best friend ignore these things. She's by no means sentimental, but she can take these moments to remind Jess that there are people in the world who aren't going to let her slip away entirely.
It isn't going to go without resistance. That's why Trish is armed with food and a bottle of whiskey. The bottle is expensive and even has an expensive bow attached to it. ]
As if "no" has ever stopped me. Don't make me say it, Jess.

still, that doesn't mean she won't try. ]
God, Trish. Not now.

It's the look that says you were warned. And it's accompanied by Trish starting to... sing. ]
Happy birthday to yooooou...

[ she knew it. trish warned her, but foolishly, she had a sliver of hope. with an annoyed exhale, jess reaches out, grabbing her by the arm. she opens the front door to let the other woman inside the apartment — anything to stop this embarrassing display. ]
Come on.

At least I didn't show up with a cake and balloons.

Happy goddamn birthday to me.
[ after the door shuts behind them, she lifts her brow at the food and, more importantly, the bottle of hard liquor that trish holds within her arms. hand it over, sis. ]

[ Because who would make her celebrate if not Trish? No one, that's who.
She holds out the food, pointedly leaning away with the bottle of booze. Have you eaten today, Jessica? ]

Whatever.
[ dismissing her comment, jess accepts the food and reluctantly abandons the alcohol for now. she carries the bag over to the living room before placing it on the table. then, she takes a seat on the couch, as the tension in her slender frame fades. ]
