A Bottle of Rum
WHO: Captain Jack Sparrow & Tohru Adachi [Closed]
WHERE: Adachi's apartment
WHEN: Late evening
WHAT: A possible thoughtful conversation & shenanigans with the infamous Pirate-Lord of the Caribbean.
WARNINGS: Mentions of alcoholism, old trauma, Jack's brand of possible madness & Adachi being Adachi!
[As promised, the Captain certainly makes his scheduled visit sporting a bottle of the finest rum he managed to fetch from Sadie's repertoire of fine liquors. He befriended the wealthy heiress days ago and coined her "Lady Bacchus" ever since. The two are officially alcoholic buddies now, which explains why Jack is roaming about with this expensive bottle of rum as apology.
With the rhythmical tap of his knuckles against the door, Jack waits patiently for Adachi to answer. Twice now has Jack visited Adachi at his home now, both times bearing gifts. It's an odd thing, one that almost catches Sparrow off guard.
Maybe he's being too friendly? Too forward? Jack frowns a little.
The Captain don't have many he deems as "friends" besides Mr. Gibbs, Will and dear Elizabeth. Despite their quarreling and sometimes double-crossing, Jack likes them well enough to consider them friends. Mr. Gibbs always been quite a loyal first mate and the Turners saved his life on many occasions. Although, Jack has yet figure out his feelings regarding both the blacksmith and his beautiful swan. So, when Adachi opens that door, he'll find Jack looking oddly pensive with those soulful brown eyes downcast and a near pout of a frown upon his lips.
Jack definitely looks a bit more cleaned up now than before, his hair finally free of tangles with only a couple of dreads left and the usual trinkets. He wears his signature red bandana still with his stylish tricorn hat this time. The billowy shirt has been replaced with a more modern looking button down, the amethyst blue jacquard waistcoat makes a return this time accompanied with a pair of dark blue fitted jeans that makes his ass look spectacular.
Of course, the light brown pirate boots remain along with the white and red sash. Jack looks like a damn hipster.]

I love that Adachi being Adachi is a legit warning
[ He hadn’t bothered to change yet, so Jack would be treated to the sight of Adachi in his workout sweats, still a little damp from the ice, with his glasses planted on his nose. ]
Eh...? Jack?
[ Was he seriously making due on that promise of booze? Geeze, this guy... more importantly... ]
...are you evolving into a hippy or something?
I thought you would! lol
'Ello, mate! How you holdin' up? [Jack greets as he shoves the bottle to Adachi's chest.] What's praytell is a 'hippie', Adachi-lad?
I've been hearin' that word a little too often, ya see.
[Adachi definitely isn't the first to notice that Jack definitely looks more like a "Flower Child" these days than ever before with hints of pirate regalia upon him.]
no subject
[ ...which was totally upstairs in the living area, and no one was going to know how embarrassingly long it took him to obtain one. ]
[ He paused a moment, before looking down at the bottle and nearly dropping it. How in the hell did this guy afford this?! Was this his idea of courting someone or something?! It took him a but to snap out of his surprise, shaking his head as Riza approached, sniffing at the air and backing up from Jack; her poor little Poochyena nose a little too sensitive to the smell of booze that clung to him, despite not being outright drunk. ]
Uh... as I understand it, there was this whole peace movement in America during some war or other. They used to dress like that and preach about love and flowers, or something like that.
no subject
[Jack asks with a slight scoff as he glances sassily over his shoulder, hands on hips and all.]
I'm a pirate, the very best damn pirate you'll ever see. I'll leave the flowery sermons to my betters in the priesthood or mayhaps hire that Jedi to recite a verse or two.
[Yes, even the great Captain Jack Sparrow had a run in with a 'Star Person'. Not the same bloke they've met on the Network but a rather humble man in poor cloth who looked like a monk. A somewhat handsome monk at that. Jack never caught the Jedi's name but he certainly remembers the bright blue of that fiendish lightsaber.
How could he forget? Jack lost his sword because of that accursed Jedi.]
Now who's this little ball of fluff here?
[Jacks eyes light with joy once he spies the little pooch. He kneels down towards the dog-like mutt and extends his bandaged hand towards the pup. Some of the stitches tore open a few weeks back during his hijinks at a local museum. Jack thankfully had the wound properly tended but it still needs bandages.]
Aw, don't be scared of ol' Jack. I don't bite.
[He's trying to coax Riza over.]
no subject
[ Hadn’t Revan been one of those? They were the kind of people that were in direct opposition to the kind of space wizard that Dooku was, if he recalled right. Maybe that meant he would be able to relax a little; that if Dooku stepped a toe out of line, he’d be smacked down without Adachi having to lift a finger. One can dream, right? ]
[ Adachi grinned as Riza sat down just out of range of Jack’s hand, not looking like she was going to come near him. ]
Riza doesn’t really like the smell of booze. Her nose is really sensitive; you probably smell terrible to her.
[ Poor Riza went hiding that whole night he got drunk, and didn’t come out until well into the afternoon the next day. He felt so guilty he took her immediately to get one of her favorite treats, spoiling her by carrying her the whole way to the store. ]
no subject
Might explain why she's not too terribly fond of me.
[He let's out a sigh as he hops upon onto his feet. Jack turns and gives Adachi an amused smirk. It seems that his offering of rum was greatly appreciated. That's good. Jack didn't mean to be that terribly rude earlier but it was quite funny.]
Looks like you was hard at work with something.
[Jack flops down upon the couch as he eyes the laptop.]
All these fancy trinkets and doodads bore me. I don't know how you people can stomach em.
no subject
Eh, I’m only a few years in the past compared to this place. I’m used to computers.
[ He paused, tossing him a lopsided smile. ]
Besides, you’re probably just not going to the right places online.
[ Free porn at just a click? What pirate wouldn’t love that? ]
I was just doing work, though. Have a client with some issues that needed some research, that’s all.
no subject
Tortuga has him spoiled.]
Lucky you! I'm still tryin' to get used to this stuff.
[The pirate playfully hisses at the pup as he stretches across the sofa like a lazy feline. He's being a pest, an attractive and slightly tipsy pest in bold hues and random curios.]
Clients, eh? It's almost too easy to forget you're an officer of the law, mate.
no subject
Yeah, well, I’m not exactly the best follower of the law myself; just trying to do the right thing these days.
[ Even if that meant breaking the law. Oops. ]
no subject
He'll win her over with a treat later.]
Sounds more or less like meself. [Jack admits as he rests his legs across Adachi's lap. The pirate already kicked off his boots and thankfully his toes aren't smelly. The miracles of a regular scheduled bath routine, no?
He reaches towards to table and plucks his glass of rum.] Although, I'm less lawful and more self-serving.
[He tips his glass to Adachi before drowning his glass all in one shot.]
A pirate's life for me, mate.
no subject
Surprised you haven’t made a name for yourself in the Maurita Falls underworld yet.
[ Why not jump head first into a criminal life? He recalled how tempting it had been, after his first day here working as a traffic cop of all things. If he hadn’t had his own self serving promises to fulfill, if he had been pulled from his place in time just a few months earlier, things would have been very different. ]
no subject
[Jack tosses the now empty glass onto the table as he rolls up his right sleeve. The pirate has all sorts of tattoos and old scars across his arm, even that awful "P" branded onto his wrist remains. Jack is very much so a pirate but his latest brand says something else.]
A "Registered Hero", they say. [A dry laugh escapes Jack as he sits up a little.] In the dark, you can see the letters as bright as day, lad.
They think that a scurvy dog like me to be some kind of "hero".
[He smiles somewhat as he mulls on about that for a moment.]
It's...difficult not to want to be one. [There's an unspoken "but" that lingers there.]
no subject
Didn’t think you the type to actually register. You know you don’t necessarily have to be the good guy, right?
[ Adachi waved a dismissive hand, before settling it on Jack’s leg. ]
There are plenty of people that toe the line constantly. Even the people that outright break the law get what amounts to a slap on the wrist.
[ He shifted slightly, resting against the arm of the couch and looking right on at Jack. ]
Just before I showed up, there was this guy that gassed an entire swear in with his stupid fear toxin. He got a month in jail. For infecting and hurting hundreds of people.
no subject
[Which is basically what happened but anyway. Jack doesn't seem to mind the closeness between them. He's all but draped across the detective's lap.]
But what if I am? Good, I mean. A good man who've done one too many bad mistakes. Then what, mate?
[He cracks open his eyes just a little and gives Adachi a shockingly morose glance. Something is eating at Jack, something the pirate utterly refuses to state openly. He's dancing around the subject at best without fully addressing it head on.]
Only a month? Hell, in the Caribbean, just talking to a pirate could get you bleedin' hanged, Adachi. The punishment doesn't fit the crime no matter where, eh?
no subject
...before I showed up here, I had killed two woman, for... well, reasons. Dumb ones, not that there’s much in the way of good reasons to kill innocent people. I had already made a promise to myself to make sure it didn’t happen again, though there wasn’t much you could do once you’re already caught, you know?
[ He shrugged lightly at that. ]
This place tested me to keep going with that promise. So far I’ve been doing okay, just... recently learned the hard way that sometimes killing is the only option you have.
[ He hadn’t taken it well. He still woke up to nightmares of that crazy woman’s face, eyes bulging and hopped up on whatever steroids she had take to get to that size, looking shocked when Izanagi-no-Yomi’s sword went through her chest. Thankfully Riza was around for him to cling to to calm down, but it still wasn’t easy to deal with. ]
no subject
This isn't the Caribbean. Hell, this isn't even the same century anymore! Everything he once known, everyone he once cherished, even his ship...all gone.
As wondrous and liberating this world is, Jack feels like he lost it all.]
You told me a lil bout that. [He states quietly.] I still can't believe it. Guess a testament of how much you've changed since.
[A gentle smile forms upon his lips as he listens to Adachi. Despite that the detective seems like such a prick half of the time, Jack is honestly becoming find of this sloppy looking cop. For better or for worse, Jack thinks Adachi isn't so bad. A tad loopy but bad? Nah, just odd at best.]
Sometimes the choice is made for you with or without your consent. Preordained, I guess.
no subject
[ He shrugged after a moment, patting Jack’s leg absently. ]
I used to think something like that; that if you weren’t born with talent, your only choice was to follow whatever life had in store for you until you got the ultimate game over.
no subject
[A tired yawn escapes Jack as he stretches his arms high above his head. He's lithe and thin but has a bit more body to him than poor scrawny Adachi over there. Although, Adachi looks to have just a bit of meat on him. Just a hint of sinewy muscle.
That's good. The poor man already has such a baby face. Jack almost can't believe this bloke is older than Will and Elizabeth both.]
I suppose worryin' about the 'what-ifs' matters not now. As you said, it's all a matter of one's perspective. Fate can change but only if you will it.
[The gentle stroking helps him relax a bit more. Jack is slowly letting down his guard some.]
This is a lovely place, by the way. Real classy.
no subject
Maybe you're not doing the right things to let people see the real you. Maybe what you think is enough to prove how special you are really isn't all that special. Self reflection goes a long way.
[ He grinned. ]
Or maybe those people are just assholes, and you need to cut them out of your life.
[ Adachi definitely showed signs of working himself out, if the sweaty clothes weren't a good sign of that. His diet was still awful though; cabbage and ramen, and whatever take out he stops at while he's out hitting the pavement. It was really the only thing keeping him from a healthy weight and build. Someone help this poor idiot. ]
[Adachi let out a small chuckle at the yawn, patting Jack's leg. ]
Is that your way of saying you need a place to crash tonight?
no subject
[To be honest, there's not a day that Jack isn't doing some form of self reflection. It's one of the reasons why he drinks so heavily. Jack is constantly trying to drown the nagging little voice within his mind that constantly nags him.
That voice is his own self-doubts.]
Still, I suppose both be true, mate. There's many who need to be cut out like the cankerous little boils they are. Thankfully, seems the supernatural has done it for me.
[A soft chuckle escapes him as he sits up all wobbly. He's tired, no fatigued. Jack spent one too many weeks forsaking rest and he's crashing fast. In a bold move, he swings his legs off Adachi and crawls over to flop himself over the detective's lap getting those thick brown tresses all tangled and messy.]
If you so may oblige, Adachi. I'm a decent house guest, I think.
no subject
[ He was cut out of his thoughts by suddenly having a pirate head in his lap. He stared down at him in surprise for a moment, a blush slowly creeping up onto his face, before he shook it away. ]
H-hey, you can sleep here, but I've gotta get a shower. I stink from skating before.
no subject
[Jack peeks up at Adachi with some curiosity in his gaze. He's never ice skated before. The pirate hails from the Caribbean after all. There's no ice anywhere to be found among the heat and the humidity.] Ah, I never partook in such a hobby but I suppose that's why you seem a tad rank.
[He grins a little once he sits up again.]
Fine, fine.
no subject
[ He can't help but tease; if he didn't tease there would be something wrong with him. ]
[ Adachi got up, gathering up Riza in his arms before closing down his laptop for the night. ]
C'mon upstairs. The kotatsu's much more comfortable than the couch.
no subject
[The pirate rolls his eyes as he hops onto his feet. He's a little wobbly but manages to gain his balance over time.]
What praytell is a "ko-at-sew", hm?
[Jesus, his Japanese is horrid. He's such a Brit and this is one of those moments where his accent is quite prominent.]
no subject
Oh man... and I thought Viktor's Japanese was bad...
[ And he's Russian! ]
[ He grabbed Jack by the arm, half dragging him with him up the stairs. ]
Ko-tet-su; it's a table with a heating element attached to it.
[ Jack would get to see what he meant as soon as they got up to the landing. The archway leading to the living room was right there, revealing a cozy room with a table that seemed to have a plush blanket coming out from it. Two plush loungers were tucked under one side, facing a small TV that seemed to be there out of necessity to keep up with the news, not because Adachi wanted it there. The other sides were padded with pillows, looking entirely too cozy even taking out the fact that that table heated up. ]
no subject
[Jack blinks his eyes owlishly at the man's reaction. Why are Orientals so particular about things? He thought he did well enough given that Japanese isn't one of the languages he speaks. The pirate knows English, French and Spanish quite well but does excel in Trinidadian Patois, basic Arabic and a hint of Mandarin.
He's also decent in reading Portuguese but not speaking.]
Who's Viktor, mate? A friend of yours?
[A chuckle escapes him as he let's Adachi lead him upstairs. The officer has one hell of a grip on him.]
A table with a furance? That's more comfortable than a couch?
[He gives this kotatsu a skeptical look. The room quite impressive and comfortable. Jack let's out a quiet yawn but he's rather taken back with the subtle décor.]
Reminds me of Singapore.
no subject
Oh, yeah. We're pretty close friends. He's Russian, so his accent makes things funny.
[ Adachi rubbed the back of his neck at the comment, looking around the room. Other than the kotetsu and the reluctantly placed TV, there wasn't much else. ]
Ah... well, I just moved. There's... not much yet.
[ He waved a hand toward the table, letting Jack go. ]
But yeah, it's super comfortable. I fall asleep under that more than I do in my bed.
no subject
[Jack states as he circles around the kotatsu with an odd expression upon his face. He squats down next to it for a moment before attempting to get all cozy. A pleasant hum escapes the pirate once his cold slender toes find warmth. He curls up under the thick blankets like a pleased feline before peeking up at Adachi. It's obvious that Jack likes this spot despite the lack of décor. ]
Mayhaps a few brightly colored conch shells would add some cheer here.
[Jack has a fondness for seashells.]
no subject
Count on a seaman to suggest sea-stuff.
[ His tone was light and teasing as he set the control back down. ]
I'll be back out in a bit. If you're hungry, the kitchen is over there.
[ He pointed just past the living room, to an archway where a fridge could just barely be seen. ]
no subject
Jack is a little leery of the technology of this realm. It feels very foreign to him.]
But of course! If there's anything I know, it would be the sea itself.
[He replies with such a jovial grin. The pirate is nice and toasty under the kotatsu. He seems to like it quite a bit.]
Food for me too? Top notch hospitality!
no subject
[ Really, his fridge consists of cabbage and beer. He's very well aware of his patheticness. ]
[ He made sure Jack was comfy, before going down the hall to get a shower. He'd be able to hear the water going after a moment, and it wasn't long before the steam from the hot water started creeping out into the hall. ]
no subject
Good enough for a munch or two at least.
[Jack waves Adachi off so he could view the reply in peace. He's all wrapped up under that blanket like a bug snug under a rug. The pirate lays there in complete contentment as he flips through the channels. Much of the programs on at this hour are just commercials, news or mindless drivel in the form of soap operas. Jack dislikes most of the shows on the telly but he eventually stumbles upon an interesting documentary regarding marine life.
In no time flat, Jack finds himself still cuddled under that blanket but sitting right in front of the TV. He left the comforts of the kotatsu in favor of staring into the blue murky depths of the ocean on display. Even just the brief images of the caribbean's crystal blue waters instills this feeling of emptiness in him. He watches with innocent intrigue as the camera spans across the warm pacific waters. He could almost smell the sea salt in the air and feel the sun's rays upon his back again.
It's a blissful memory but a torturous one too without the Pearl.
So, he sits there huddled under the blanket since he feels so oddly cold, and watches.]
no subject
...miss it?
no subject
[Jack answers quickly without much thought. He misses the sea, he longs for it. The beaches here in this strange continent are nothing like the tropical isles he hails from. The waters here are too murky in hue, too cold too. They lack the crystal-blue hues of the Caribbean and the warmth of the sun.
There's no comparison.]
More than anyone could possibly think. [He glances over his shoulder with a grin.] Oh? You're not all skin and bones after all, Adachi-lad!
no subject
W-well, uh... i-if you fall asleep, don't worry about turning the TV off. It's on a timer.
no subject
Face it, Adachi, he knows you're not doing all "that" by yourself. The officer is too much of a hot mess.]
Is it now? That's pretty handy. [Jack replies as he fights back a yawn.] Turning in already?
no subject
Yeah; my days are pretty long and start early.
[ He grinned. ]
Besides, you look like you're about to drop off too.
