one • heropa, the frisky nickel barcade
[ Anyone stopping by the Frisky Nickel during the day will find themselves surrounded, most likely, by tweens and teenagers lining up to stuff coins into the noisy, gleaming arcade games. While most of the selections don't resemble anything anyone from another world might recognize (thanks a lot, divergent pop culture evolution), they seem to be a hit with the crowd. Look out for the skeeball machine, though — there's a loose wire somewhere, and occasionally the lights flicker and it makes a noise like it's possessed by demons. It's probably nothing to worry about.
After 8 o'clock in the evening is when things get a little more adult. Or at least it's when the joint starts serving alcohol and the under-21s get kicked out so the grownups can drink rainbow cocktails undisturbed. It might be possible, if you've talked to the right wrong people, to get in on some whack-a-mole gambling, but you're gonna have to ask the nice blond man behind the counter first. ]
two • heropa, a random park
[ It might be September, but it still feels like midsummer in Heropa, which is the reason for the following scene in a public park: one blond man in shutter shades, neon orange board shorts, and a teal tanktop with "BEACH BABE" written in glitter that he's... probably wearing ironically? Hard to say. In any case, he's sitting in a lawn chair next to a kiddie pool, wherein a capybara is relaxing in the sunshine. He's jerry-rigged a hose to a drinking fountain, and he's hosing down the giant rodent with one hand, sipping an orange soda out of a curly straw with the other.
Every so often, he fills a water balloon and adds it to his stockpile. ]
