WHO: Bela Talbot and Adam Monroe

WHAT: Grabbing a drink
WARNINGS: None. But will update if necessary

Heropa wasn't a city that Bela visited that often but she made an exception this evening. After closing up shop she headed to Heropa and made her way to Revīvēscere, finding a spot in the bar where Adam would be able to see her easily. While she waits on his arrival Bela looks around the bar, taking in the atmosphere; there weren't a lot of people despite it being a Friday. Perhaps it was still early.

Bela didn't mind having a quiet drink. If anything, it would leave more room for them to have a proper conversation. Better than texting each other over the network.

Aside from that, it had been a long week and she was looking forward to unwinding, trying to relax after all of the clone chaos that had happened not so long ago. Idly, Bela wondered when the next bad thing was going to happen. Not a nice thought but given her time here, she'd seen a lot of bad things.

Hopefully a few drinks and company would help to distract Bela from her thoughts.

He raised an eyebrow. Nefarious purposes? "So what do they do if someone's power goes out of control? As I understand it, not everyone here was born with their ability or came by it before arriving."

"Someone else stops them." Bela replied, figuring that was best answer. "You're right, there are people around here who didn't have powers. They don't get to pick what their abilities are either. "

"Why should they be allowed to pick?" Adam asked, raising an eyebrow. "I was born with my power; I certainly had no choice in the matter. Of course, giving abilities to everyone isn't exactly a good system in itself. It was something I was strongly against back home."

The fact that these people were doing it did not sit well with him.

"I never said they should be able to. Merely stating that they don't." She is quiet while he spoke, listening to his opinion on powers. Bela could understand Adam's aversion to granting people abilities, given the destruction they could bring.

"How would you make the system work, then?"

"The system doesn't work," he argued with a defeated sigh. "No matter what you put into place. I don't believe it's right that they give abilities to everybody, regardless of the consequences, but I've also seen what happens when only certain people have abilities." Adam finished off his drink in one go.

"I suppose it'll be up to us to stop each other, should things get out of hand."

"You have clearly put a lot of thought into this, Adam. I doubt I could steer your opinion in a different direction, and I can be very persuasive." She eyed his empty glass, tapping the bartop with a finger to get a refill for him. Maybe they needed a whole bottle.

"Perhaps. We could keep each other in check. I think it's important for imPorts to support one another."

"I have no doubt of that, Bela," he responded pleasantly. He was tempted to flag down the barkeep and make him leave the bottle, but putting down as many drinks as he wanted was a dead give-away to his ability. Adam wasn't quite ready to show that hand yet.

"I'm not very interested in policing anyone. I don't mind helping someone if they want to learn how to control their power, though. It's what I did back in New York."

"I've got a good handle on my powers already. Had plenty of practice." If she had been given abilities that weren't useful to her, Bela would be likely to think very differently about them.

"But maybe someone here, someone new would want your guidance? It's a thing to consider." His drink is topped up promptly. "What part of New York did you live in?"

"After two year, I would hope so," he replied dryly. He took another sip of his whiskey. He really needed to try pacing himself. "Hartsdale. I left not long before I arrived here. How about you?" he asked. "Where are you from?"

"Originally, England. Never lost the accent, even when I moved to New York." Which was fine by her. "While I do have an apartment in Queen's, I tend to travel around a lot so it's mostly become a place to crash at when I'm not working." A smile. "How about you? I don't detect a New York accent."

Adam smirked. He never lost his accent, either. Not completely. "Like this?" he asked, smoothly transitioning into a decent New Yorker. He settled back into his original voice. "I was born in England like you. I'm fairly good with languages and accents, though."

"That's impressive." She replied, sipping from her whiskey. Bela liked to think she was good at accents too, given her career. Using her natural accent didn't always work. "You are? Is that because you've picked them up along the way? Or is it for job purposes?"

"Picked them up," he nodded. "I'm a bit of a nomad, you might say; I've traveled all over the world. I've spent a lot of time in America, but before that I lived in Japan, Germany, France and Italy. So I learned those languages while living there."

"Oh now you have me jealous. I've only ever visited those parts of Europe but I never lived in them. Nor Japan. Do you have a favourite place to live in?" It would be a hard choice for Bela personally.

Adam gave the question serious thought, finishing off his glass of whiskey while he was at it. It was likely because of his years locked away, but when he thought of where he had liked living, the ones with open spaces came to mind first.

"I once lived in the northwest part of the United States. We were out in the country, so at night we could see stars stretched out over the whole sky. It was very quiet and peaceful. Of course," he added, "I enjoy the bustle of the city as well. I'm the sort of person who can find a place anywhere, really."

"Good for you. Being able to adjust to your surroundings." She'll give him credit where it's due. "I much prefer living in the city myself, but I wouldn't deny myself a view of the night sky with endless stars above me."

Bela smiled at the thought. She could appreciate a little natural beauty now and again.

"When you get the chance you should take a trip around the different porter cities. See what they're like. Just as a suggestion."

"Oh?" He raised an eyebrow in interest. "Anything I should particularly look out for during these trips, or is this a more general suggestion?"

"More of a general suggestion but I've heard that the antique shop in Maurtia Falls is pretty good." She smiled widely. "Mostly because the owner is a delightful person indeed. I think you'd like her."

There's a coy look.

"Oh, really?" He caught on that she was the owner in question, of course. But he was also interested in checking out the shop for curiosity's sake. He wanted to see what was considered an "antique" in this place.

"Thank you for the tip. I'll keep it in mind during my next outing."

"You're welcome. I'm only too glad to offer the help." Partially out of her own self-interest and partially because she wanted to help him - she wasn't always so bad.

"If you like the beach and warmer weather, Heropa is the place to go. De Chima and Nonah have thriving industries, mostly in technology. Suppose it depends on what your interests are."

The beach... god, he hadn't been to the beach in decades. He would most certainly have to pop over there at some point. "What about music and art?" he wondered. "Any theatre or concerts worth visiting?"

"There are a few museums, galleries and libraries around. I don't know of any independent artists." Bela took a small sip from her drink. "Sadly, I've never come across any theatre productions but there have been a few concerts. More of a rock vibe to them."

Adam would take what he could get and not complain. Any kind of art, literature or music would be welcome after so long kept away from it. "It all sounds brilliant," he concluded. "I'm looking forward to seeing it all."

"Now that's a good attitude to have. I don't think I have seen someone so enthusiastic about wanting to see all of what this place can offer." A laugh, followed by a curious look. "Have you been missing out on those kinds of things for a while or something?"

Adam found that comment interesting. Surely in two years there had to be someone else who wanted to explore this world? Though maybe not for the same reason as he. He shrugged at the question, tracing his finger around the rim of his whiskey glass.

"Let's just say it's been a while since I've gotten to explore anywhere."

"Oh, that's a shame. You should try to make up for it here then." She drained the rest of her whiskey, sliding the glass away from her. Bela is having a break for the time being.

"I'm quite happy to give you a tour of Maurtia Falls."
