There’s something happening here
WHO: imPorts!
WHERE: Maurtia Falls ‘Big Sleep’ hotel, and in the Maurtia Falls Central Park directly across the street
WHEN: Noon to dusk on August 15th, a fine sunny day
WHAT: Registration in motion inside, dissent in motion outside! While the government hosts its Swearing-In and Might Club training event within the hotel, dissatisfied imPorts stage a Swear-Out protest nearby to demonstrate their displeasure! Remember to record your character’s status here
WARNINGS: Non-lethal violence in the Might Club prompt. Note that this event is divided into two top-levels for the two competing gatherings- see here for plotting and further details
Welcome, imPorts new and old! It’s a beautiful summer day in Maurtia Falls, at least by the standards of that frequently dark city, and a great day for having a party. Or two competing parties, in this case.
All of you have been taken to another universe and asked to Register with the government that hosts you. Most are willing to cooperate with this system, but some are unhappy. So while the authorities celebrate the path of heroism and generous benefits inside a gorgeous hotel, some imPorts and their native supporters have gathered in the park across the street to promote a vision of independence and betterment in opposition to the status quo. And of course, the cameras of reporters and fans alike are everywhere, recording almost everything for the world to watch.
Maybe you’re concerned about the signs of division in this super-powerful imPort community and its complicated, tense relationship with the local government. Or maybe you’re just happy to have twice as many opportunities to mingle and scoop up free food. Visit one event, visit the other, or visit both: the choice is yours. And isn’t choice what days like today are all about?

THE SWEARING-IN
Of course it’s not just about imPorts today. This month’s Swear-In has been opened to native heroes of the Porter cities, to honour those who have risked (and sometimes lost) their lives responding to recent disasters. ImPorts will find themselves rubbing shoulders with an assortment of accomplished figures, some of them eager to meet superhuman visitors from other dimensions, others shy or insecure about how they might measure up to imPort power and glamour. Most of them are eager to meet you, and may want to trade stories or tips about helping others.
Look! There's the De Chima Dogman, the flying metahuman who helps return lost pets to their owners while wearing a deeply ill-fitting fur suit with floppy beagle ears (that he is currently wearing, standing out amidst the suits and dresses of most other guests). He's been getting good press since breaking up that dog fighting ring in May. And is that Nonah social worker Marika Sterling? She was recognized by City Hall last week for her accomplishments in promoting literacy, education, and job training for those in need! Then there’s humble Heropa school bus driver Gregory Truth. He used his transportation to evacuate dozens of people during recent flooding, but insists that he isn’t a hero to anyone who asks as he hovers near the edge of the party with a drink gripped tightly in his hand.
Speaking of drinks, there are ample refreshments on-hand tonight along the RIGHT side of the room. There is an open bar with both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, and a generous buffet of hot, hearty burgers, sausages, salads, finger sandwiches, and little tarts for dessert, with vegetarian options available for all. Along the LEFT side of the room, businesses from the Porter cities have set up booths to advertise their products and employment opportunities to new imPorts, with signs and brochures aplenty. Having an imPort on staff can be a real mark of prestige for a business, so if your character wants a new job they can find opportunities here. Maybe they could be the new mascot for Singin’ Subs (lunch AND entertainment) or join the team at Edifice Enterprises, a local construction company. And of course, should your character choose to Register, there is a table staffed by two helpful government representatives, where you can officially sign your name and take your oath.
Your character may be particularly interested in the Mortuary Falls exhibit. This costume store is advertising its upcoming haunt season sales event with free samples. Because this is America, and in America it is never too early to start advertising for Halloween! Let their excellent makeup and prosthetics team turn your character into a diabolical-looking monster to help generate interest in their products, with warts, horns, fangs, and more. They could make your character entirely unrecognizable, or maybe just bring out features that were already there. The makeup will last for a few hours before harmlessly washing away. Of course, if your character already has warts, horns, and fangs, there may be limits to what they can do for you...
Reporters are thick at today’s event, hungrily pressing cameras and microphones toward your characters in pursuit of the next big imPort-related scoop. Expect to field important, vital questions like Would you make out with your own clone? or What’s your favourite thing about this Swear-In? As reporters strain to generate a headline-worthy quote from you. They seem especially interested in your dating life… imPort shipping is always big news!
However, the main event of this Swear-In is undoubtedly the Might Club training event being hosted in the back of the hotel. In the interests of ‘heightening heroic readiness’ and raising money for charities through donated advertising proceeds, all attendees will be invited to pit themselves against one another in friendly, nonlethal sparring matches held on the tennis courts behind the hotel. The courts have been outfitted with advanced holographic equipment to generate exotic and exciting environments where your characters can pit their skills against one another. Take on all challengers in the multi-level Jungle Environment, or fight desperately to avoid plummeting to the fiery depths of the Lava Environment! There are plenty of native martial artists and metahumans willing to try their luck against imPorts as well. The arena is surrounded by cameras, some of them flying on remote-controlled drones, broadcasting the action to a rapt audience watching from a safe distance. Remember to follow the rules of the event, put on a good show for the cameras, and try to have fun- even if you get beaten down in full view of the world.
Toward the evening, the food tables and advertising booths get cleared away to make room for music and dancing in the hotel’s ballroom. A 50’s-themed cover band named the Malt Shoppe will take the stage to help attendees unwind with renditions of some of the decade’s most fondly remembered songs for your characters to listen or even dance to, if they’re so inclined. Many of the native attendees will be getting into the groove with gusto, since this kind of jukebox music is still quite popular in this pseudo-50s version of America. So get your swing on, or attempt a jitterbug if that’s your thing! Just be mindful if the De Chima Dogman asks you for a dance: that costume of his looks fairly sweaty, and likely hasn’t been washed in a while.
Relax and enjoy yourselves, imPorts: the Swear-in is for you.

THE SWEAR-OUT
Unlike the Swear-In’s booth for confirming Registration, here characters are encouraged to take the path of being Unsettled. Orange flyers and brochures are circulated which explain that being Unsettled is a way of sending a signal of independence to the government, and that many imPorts have lived as Unsettled for years without serious negative consequences. A speaking platform has been set up toward the back of the Swear-Out, an open invitation for anyone with something to say to get up in front of the crowd and make a speech about what’s on their mind. Just keep in mind that your audience will have the right to question and debate you once you are done speaking!
There are also booths set up for a variety of charities and NGOs which have been invited to the event, encouraging imPorts get involved. Want to make a difference in the community? Consider donating to the Longer Thread medical research foundation in Maurtia Falls, or spending a few hours helping out at the Nonah Neighbourhood Education Group.
Most of the natives here are fans of imPorts, critics of the government, or both. Heropa investigative journalist Rupert Mendez is here, with his long history of butting heads with the military. And isn't that recently-paroled super-criminal Mark 'Mauler' Mallen? He's infamous for his fast temper and quick fists, as befits a super-speedster metahuman. He's skulking around the edges of the Swear-Out, looking shady without doing anything blatantly wrong. Maybe he has just taken an interest in politics? Or maybe someone should escort him away from the premises, just in case. There are no police here: imPorts have taken control of their own security for today’s event.
Reporters, bloggers, and cameras are just as thick here as they are at the Swear-In, and just as eager to ask your character questions. Here, the queries have a different bent, more challenging perhaps. Why is your character participating in criticism of the government? What more could the United States do for imPorts in addition to free housing, employment, and fame? How should ordinary citizens feel about imPorts complaining?
Food and drink are also available, provided for free by supportive imPorts. Today’s event is being catered by Ken Kaneki’s Re: Café, providing a variety of dishes from Japanese-American fusion cuisine, along with an array of pastries, some of the best coffee your character will ever taste, and HUMAN BLOOD. That’s right, Swear-Out is open to imPorts with all diets, including vampires and cannibals. If your character has certain unconventional thirsts, they can have a refreshing and perfectly legal drink from the ‘special’ red bottles, some of which have been fermented into bloodwine. Otherwise... try the yakisoba, it’s fantastic.
One of the most interesting features of the Swear Out culinary offerings happens to be the unique array of teas. At this ImPort Tea Party, ImPorts get to be the first to try out some of these new blends sponsored by Oddrey and Oddrey Inc. Some of the older imPorts may remember the company from their genetically engineered flora a few years ago. With the help of a few imPort scientists (namely Raina), they were able to turn some of these plants into (relatively) harmless blends. These teas promise some rather interesting effects, all of which will only last a few hours at most.
And let's not forget about the live entertainment! Both Persephone and Inanna have surfaced to sing their most daring and rebellious music for the excited crowds—with a few brief warnings about the potential emotional effects that come from listening to the Song of a Goddess, of course.
Persephone is first to the stage, naturally. Her song is more suited to the event, filled with the outrage and indignation and hope for change that the entire event embodies. She may not spark any new feelings in the Swear Out crowds—it's much more fanning the flames already there in anyone willing to listen. Inanna takes the stage after her. Their song, in comparison, is more subdued. There isn't any inherent rage in the message they send out through the crowd, no urge to throw down in the middle of the street right then and there. No, their song, in addition to reducing inhibitions and relaxing the crowd, carries a strong message of confidence—a quiet, firm belief oppression can be beaten back if only you resolve to fight back against it.
Finally, and perhaps inevitably, arguments break out between the two events. The street bordering between the Swear-In and Swear-Out will emerge as a site of tensions throughout the day, as some of the rowdier demonstrators chant and wave their signs at people going to and from the luxurious hotel across the road which is hosting the rival event. Some of the passers-by stop to engage, leading to a charged atmosphere filled with debate that is not all friendly in nature. Sometimes the yelling becomes overwhelming, and only a few phrases can be made out among the din:
-spoiled, ungrateful, complaining, sucking up tax dollars while decent people have to struggle-
No more lies! No more lies! No more lies!
...can’t expect to just do whatever they want! This isn’t their world! We never asked for them here!
Stop tracking our heroes! How would you like it if nanites were shoved in your-
-just finished cleaning up from giant robots and killer clones and who knows what, now we have to deal with this political bull-
Maybe your character is trying to calm down these tensions. Maybe they’re taking part in the arguments! Or maybe they’re just off to the side, watching the show with amusement or concern.
It’s your Swear-Out, imPort. Make of it what you will.

Margaret the Eevee - Registered - OTA
[Maggie has a hard time getting food from people, despite having talked to several people when they leaned down to pet her. Eventually, she manages to jump up onto a table and flag someone down, because she's hungry.]
Hey, can you get me a salad? These things were really designed for the taller imPorts and I can't get a plate.
2. Mortuary Exhibit
[Maggie didn't know heroes wore costumes in the human world, but then she was Ported in and learned quite a few things about how humans thought heroes worked. And while the most she ever wore back home while doing rescues was a kerchief and a backpack, she's open to new ideas. Unfortunately, all the costumes are human-sized, and most of the accessories aren't going to fit her, either.]
I really wanted a cape, [she sighs to the nearest person, a little sadly.] Or maybe boots, if they made ones I could dig in.
3. Music!
[A lot of people make way for a small fox-thing dancing, because apparently, she's quite a spectacle among humans. She tries to imitate their moves and even gets onto her back paws to do some of what they're doing, but dancing without a partner isn't easy. Someone help a girl out?
