OPEN LOG
WHO: Magnus Burnsides and YOU, MAYBE???
WHERE: The hospital for the first week or so of the month; everywhere else for the remainder of the month.
WHEN: ALL MONTH.
WHAT: Magnus spends some time getting patched up after the whole clonevasion ordeal! After that, he gets back to business as usual (which is, dogs, whittling, and wrestling in that order, because he is a man of few interests).
WARNINGS: None anticipated! If you want your character to visit Magnus in the hospital, it's no secret that he's there, and other recovering characters, please feel free to tag in! If the existing prompts don't work for you and you want to play, shoot me a PM or find me on plurk at WISDOMBITCH and I'd be delighted to shoot a burly boy your way.
[ a ; hospital living ]
[ After the whole clone nonsense went down, Magnus got a sudden reminder of his own mortality as his tendency to run straight into danger repeatedly as if hoping to get a different result every time he tried it bites him in the ass. This particular instance has landed him in the hospital, looking a little worse for wear; he's all bandaged and sewn up where he got shot, a healthy black eye blooming over his right eye, and burns skating up his right side up to his neck. Despite this, he doesn't appear to be in poor spirits, and he certainly seems to be healing faster than what's necessarily normal, even with the help of the nanites.
But the one thing he is, is bored. He's not particularly gifted with technology, which makes turning to the Internet for entertainment a daunting prospect, and reading is even more out of the question. This leaves him antsy and frustrated, bursting at the seams for someone to talk to or something to do beyond watch the endless torrent of HGTV he has playing on the tinny little TV perched at the top corner of his room or watch Steven the Goldfish swim circles in the bowl perched on his small bedside table.
And, well, if you're so inclined and happen to be of-age, he's been saving some of them dank, dank painkillers, and he's not above sharing them. ]
[ b ; out and about ]
[ Of course, once he's finally let out, he doesn't waste any time getting back out there. You might find him in one of the local parks, accompanied by his two dogs (one bernese mountain dog, one chihuahua) and Steven the Goldfish's magically sealed bowl clipped to his belt, still looking a bit bruised and bandaged but absolutely delighted to be out. Are you accompanied by a dog? Magnus will be right there, unwisely on the ground with it. If not, then one of his dogs might come bounding over. Even if that's not the case, Magnus is a friendly guy; he's bound to say hello in one way or another.
Or maybe you can find him having found a decent bench doing some whittling, chipping expertly away at the wood. If you're particularly canny, you might be able to spot the fact that he's whittling something not unlike hand-held bear claws, whistling a merry little tune as he does so.
...he's also making a mess. Shame on him! ]
[ c ; wrassle wrassle wrassle ]
[ Or maybe you're a fan of some good old-fashioned wrestling. If you check out Maurtia Falls' local ring, you may see Magnus, varnished bear mask on his face, wooden bear claws held in each of his hands and a big, (faux) furry cape straddling his shoulders. He's still all bandaged up, the chest hair peeking out of his bandages lending itself to the overall... bear-ishness performance as he bounces on stage, points at his fish-themed victim and crows, ] You! Manta Ray! You had your Piranhas assault me in the streets, outside of the sanctity of the ring! The, uh, the sheer cowardice of it all! Even through my injuries, I must protect my pride, and my cubs!
You'll never catch me, I'Morko!
[ Hey, they had to write his absence from the show in somehow. He loses magnificently and enthusiastically, flanked by Manta Ray and his Piranhas, cheered by the audience's observations of how real all of those injuries look, and manages to avoid any difficult techniques with the help of the crowd of the Piranhas. If he spots you as he exits the ring, he may treat you to a grin and a thumbs-up that belies the storyline, but otherwise, he can be found around the exit of the ring or in his shabby little dressing room. ]

hospital laws don't apply to wizards
However, the hospital staff seem to have a problem with two dogs roaming the halls of their hospital, and they turn Taako away at the door. Scowling, he tugs Alf and Uncle Jesse by their leashes around a corner in the parking lot and pops open his pocket spa. Five minutes later, he's knocking on Magnus' door.
And also Angus is there, probably. ]
no subject
... Look, he can hold the chihuahua, ok?
Angus peeks inside once the door is opened, and gives Magnus a little wave. ]
Hello, sir! How are you feeliOHMYGOSH.
no subject
Well, however long he can guilt them into staying for, and he's definitely going to be trying his best. ]
Taako! Angus! I missed you guys!
[ He pushes himself up to a seated position, taking them in. ]
So? How was the vacation?
[ Considering pretty much all of his friends went on the London trip, he probably should have, like, looked into where they went, and why, and what they were likely to do there. He did none of those things. They could have gone to the moon, for all he knows. ]

it's cool i completely lost this thread, so. cool.
hospital; sometime after taako inevitably tells her
And, not that it needed to be said, she is extremely worried about him.
The nice thing about being the Director, even if she wasn't the Director in this world, was that through that she required certain skill sets, like the one she used to get the hospital staff to speed her through quickly.
When she practically bursts into his room she stares down at the state of him and winces. ]
Magnus, what happened?
no subject
Wha - Madam Director? When did you get here!
[ Hell, why didn't Taako tell him? That jerk! ]
I, uh... [ He glances down at himself, taking it all in. ] Well, [ he admits with a little chuckle, ] I got real fucked up. There were death machines? And zombies? It was a whole thing.
[ She should know better than to expect a decent, concise answer out of any of the bozos she's hired anyway. ]
no subject
[ She approaches his bedside, categorizing his injuries in what seems from the outside a cool and calculated manner, well inside she is screaming internally. Of course this would happen to him. Of course. ]
Death machines? What were you rushing yourself into?
[ She sighs, realizing she might not exactly be helping matters. ]
I'm -- I'm sorry, Magnus. You probably... you need a better bedside manner than this.

However, she's so not good at the stalking thing, and Alf and Uncle Jesse recognize her and start straining at their leashes to greet her.]

[ He is bound and determined to give Tina a proper nickname. He really wishes that he could have stuck with something along the lines of Tiny Tina, but if her Mom got to it first, it's only fair to have to come up with something original.
He grins at her, wide and toothy, though there's something perplexed in the knit of his brow as Jesse frantically hops up and down with the deep desire to lick Tina's face. ]
Uh, why're you telling Uncle Jesse to shush? He's just happy to see you.
[ Even though Uncle Jesse had just seen her, like, three hours ago? Dogs are the greatest. Magnus loves them so much. ]
no subject
[She moves closer to the puppers to give them some attention, then smiles shyly up at Mangus.]
I just wanted to see if you were OK, but I figured you might be a little tired of people fussing over you by now, so I thought I'd just look from a distance. I'm not so good at sneaking around, though.

Er- hello. I'm really not interesting. Run along.
[Because yes, dogs are capable of understanding human speech. Who knows though? Could be an imPort in disguise that might even speak for no discernible reason.]
LET'S DO THIS.
Everyone's interesting to dogs! That's the joy of 'em. Though I wouldn't call ya uninteresting. Not a big dog person, huh?
[ Magnus is aware that people who aren't dog people exist. He just doesn't understand them. ]

[that's the first thing archie says when he's allowed into the room during visiting hours, holding a big plastic bag. it's vaguely fond. he sits down next to the bed, tossing a paper bag out the bigger one onto the bed. it's food - a takeaway, figuring that shit hospital food is universal.]
What the hell did ya think, axe beats gun?
[he rolls his eyes, flopping down into the chair next to the bed and rubbing his face. he's honestly tired, after all the bullshit, but he just had to come and snipe at magnus first.]
no subject
Of course, he's pretty happy to see him immediately after, even if he's being kind of cranky. ] Well, I'm still trucking and those Death Robots aren't, so it kinda worked, [ he says, affably enough, then scoots up a little in his bed so he can sit up properly. He'd be lying if he said that his eyes didn't dart over to that bag of food every now and then, because dang, he's hungry for the kind of meal that hospitals just don't answer, full of fat and salt and all of the things that ensure he'll always have a layer of fat on him.
He doesn't give a shit. He loves food. But he's at least perceptive enough to see that Archie's looking a little... not-good. That can't be because of him, right? Nahhhhhhh. ]

[ Maeve approaches Magnus on the bench as he carves those bear claws, unperturbed by the wood shavings all around them. It's nice to see this man is still around. He has this air of optimism about him that certainly is refreshing. Especially compared to Maeve's natural tendency toward pessimism. ]
It's been some time since we've spoken, hasn't it, darling? I apologize for that. Time has a way of slipping away in this world -- from one disaster to the next. How have you been holding up?
no subject
[ Still, its craftsmanship is pretty damn good, even for a silly little wrestling prop. He turns to her with a grin, as optimistic as ever, though on closer inspection she'll be able to see that his shirt's puffy with bandages, and she might get just a glimpse of them out of the open bit at the top. ]
Been a crazy couple of weeks, I gotta say! I got all patched up in the end, but I don't think I wanna experience that again. How 'bout you? You stay away from the Undead and Death Machines and all that crap?

[Well here's a new distraction for the bed bound giant! Yuri's standing frozen in the doorway with a look of shock, naturally. Where the hell had these new injuries come from?! Magnus had only had a few bullet wounds to contend with when Yuri'd had to leave him. Had the hospital been attacked?!
He darts into the room, tossing his backpack more or less in the direction of a chair in his rush to Magnus's bedside, and gestures incredulously at the new burns.]
What the fuck, Magnus! They were supposed to take better care of you than this!
no subject
But getting hurt's what he's best at. He glances down at himself, then back at Yuri with an expression that would be better suited for a dog than a man. ]

[Blue lets himself in without waiting for permission, and plops himself down in a chair by the window.] Gyarados was wanting to meet you again, but then I heard you were here. You're crazy, you got in some crazy fight again during the disasters? I don't get how you people manage all the stress. [He finally stops talking to make a face, trying not to stare too much at the stitches.]
no subject
[ Magnus has nothing but positive feelings for Blue. The kid's got a cool-ass dragon-serpent-thing, he helped out at the Swear-In, and he was all too willing to aid and abet in Magnus' stupid stunts. Good Dude Alert, check, check, and check!
Which is an easy way of saying that he's pleased to see him, stuck in his bed or not, and he offers him a wide grin just to say so. ] I want to meet Gyarados too! Something to look forward too once I'm outta here, I guess. [ He scoots back a little in bed, trying his damnedest to sit up properly. ]

Whatever the case may be, they're definitely making a beeline for him, and Gar has no objections. Animals are good. Animals are friends. He shrieks as the bernese barrels him over, and wastes no time in showering them both with pets, grinning widely the whole time.]
Hey!! Where did you guys come from?
heck yea it is
[ While Jesse might be on the verge of trying to bowl Gar over with affection, Alf is hanging back a little, permitting herself to be pet, tail tucked down between her legs and thumping thwap thwap thwap at her ankles - anxious, but pleased nonetheless. Magnus spares a second to consider whether or not dogs really have ankles before looking down at Gar with a grin. ]
They really like you. Not a surprise with this feller, but I'd count it as a compliment from the little one. She doesn't like many people.
