MEET CHARLES

a. home, still at Nonah
Charles lives in Nonah, in individual housing with Erik, Jean and Wanda. It's a two story building but with no stairs at the front and no thresholds that would make it hard to navigate with a wheelchair. If he has invited you into his home, he'll be waiting with a pot of tea and a tin of cookies. But if you're a chance visitor, he will welcome you just as warmly.

He's gathering his bearings finally and actually made a home for himself in the bedroom that used to be his, claimed some space around the house by piles of books often forgotten onto the tables and good scotch in a reachable cupboard in the kitchen. He's no longer red as a lobster what was going on after the beach episode of Swear-ins and Erik finally convinced him to have a haircut. Gone is the mullet and back is the 60's floppy hair-do. You might even catch him wearing a t-shirt, maybe with an X-men logo on it or a silly slogan, he got a few of those from Fanport.

Let's have a cup of tea or a game of chess, or just good conversation.

b. powers training at the danger room / Maria-Francis Foundation
The Maria-Francis Foundation building resides in ~~Nonah~~ De Chima. In the basement there is a wide space that Erik has been working with all month to get up and running as a powers training centre. The building is modern and tall, and Charles has taken a habit of waiting the people he's made appointments with at the front lobby.

He's excited to get the actual training started, get those hours in and grind some practice into people who have contacted him.

If you're not here for powers training, you can find him in the office, going through the Foundation's paperwork. You're damn right he's snooping on his own business. What of it?

c. interview, wherever seems convenient
Perhaps you're meeting him in a cafe or a park, he'll even agree to go the beach if that's convenient for you. What he's interested in is learning about what you have to say after all. Charles is very curious about what has aspired in this world before his time and how to put the details together into a cohesive picture in his mind.

He's quick to greet you with a smile and a warm handshake. Please, sit down. Would you like a cup of tea or coffee first? Do you mind if he makes some quick notes while you're discussing?

d. wildcard
Would you like something else? Perhaps run into him in the library or find him feeding pigeons one fine morning in the park? Maybe he was supposed to come to you? Are you having a dinner out? Are you one of the people he keeps an eye on and something is going awfully wrong? He would find a way to contact you. Throw me a bone, I'll run with it.

MEET THE CLONE

e. random encounter
Charles, the clone, looks and sounds exactly like the original but he doesn't have the stylish wheelchair with big X-symbols on the wheels. A big giveaway? Maybe not. His flippant attitude is probably the big neon sign that you weren't expecting. Wherever you meet - cafe, library, school, even the Foundation building - he's going to greet you with a sunny smile and a warm handshake, introduce himself if necessary and especially if you're a pretty brunette, he will flirt playfully while falling short with playing the caring and concerned game that Charles excels at.

He's going to be a little bit impatient, unlikely to avoid using his gifts even if you ask him to and multitasking to the max. Good luck catching all of his attention at any given time. But he's new to his powers, and easily overwhelmed.

f. for those he's interacted with before
As time goes by, he will start targeting Charles' friends and family. He'll find them at their work places or stage a random meeting elsewhere. Once or twice he'll even wander into the house in Nonah. You might find him at the kitchen having a cup of tea and leafing a genetics book, or perhaps wandering around, looking at pictures and fingering everything with curiosity. Or rolling into your workplace with a sunny smile and a suggestion to grab an early lunch.

[ There's a delighted laughter coming from the professor. He still feels like a child when he sees a new ability. ]

That's wonderful. Do you feel like you could do more with it?

[He slowly turned to Charles with surprise. He had never had anyone react with such delight to him showing what he was capable of. He was accustomed to Admiral Sloane giving him as passing word of praise, perhaps a small hint of a smile but it was always a fleeting moment.

He wasn't sure how to react to something like that but he just nodded.]

Yes, I want to control it better. I want to see if I can use it better on a smaller scale without it escaping my control.

[ This is Charles Xavier for you. He finds vaguely terrifying powers absolutely delightful.

And then there's a thoughtful look on his face. ] I usually start with my students at a point of trying outdo themselves. Then when you know your limits, you can start to hone in on the details.

However, [ Charles watches the sizzling ball of fire at the other end of the danger room. ] How much does it tire you to do that much? Also, does it harm you? Fire.

I feel a drain on my energy but I've never allowed myself to push to my limit to see how much I could do before I was completely exhausted. I've never had the opportunity.

[He had never had the space where he could do so without having to worry about Kylo Ren or one of the rebels taking advantage of him being so weak.]

No, I can feel the warmth but other than that? Nothing. [He demonstrated by holding a small flame in his palm, holding his other hand above the flames.]

[ Charles smiles then, an encouraging kind of, curious smile. ]

Do you want to try? How much you can do? I was mildly worried that you might hurt yourself but it seems that you're immune to it. I can close the place up and you can go all out.

[ He makes a note of turning on the ventilation on full blow just to make sure the general doesn't suffocate himself. ]

[He considered it for a moment, it would be a risk. No one knew where he was, at least. He smirked as he nodded, flexing his fingers. It would be nice to see what he was truly able to do. ]

I think it would be a good idea to know where my limits are. You may want to step out, however, there is a chance that it will be more difficult to control the fire after awhile.

Yes, I was going to step out. Just give me a second and I'll adjust some of the settings in the room. [ Erik finally has shown him to operate the computerised systems. ] I think we want to ventilate the space properly so you don't pass out from lack of oxygen.

[ He rolled out of the danger room and let the door close behind him before he took a sharp turn and opened a door to the control room that had a window looking over the danger room. He adjusted the proper levels and then turned on the mic. ]

Feel free to start whenever you like. [ His voice came from high above, now a little bit of a draft going through the space. ]

Alright.

[He took a deep breath as he waited for Charles to get out and turn on the fans. He closed his eyes for a moment, focusing himself. When he finally let his power go, it was as a huge fireball the size of a small car. He put everything he had into it for twenty minutes, trying to maintain the size before he started to falter.

The fire went out bit by bit until he was shaking with the effort as the last of it went out. It had felt amazing, however, to command that kind of power even though it didn't start to compare to Starkiller.]

The fires are out, I believe it's safe for you to come in now.

[ Charles has quite a good time watching him from the other side of the glass. It's amazing to see these powers at play, to really see how far they can go. He can already tell that there's some room for improvement here. The effort put into it is what keeps it going and he has a feeling that it can be trained.

He rolls into the hall a little later, waving a hand at the heat in the air. The fans are working on full power but it's still like in a sauna in there. ]

That is fantastic, [ he says and reaches over to pat the general's arm with a pleased smile. ] There's definitely room for improvement there, honing in on the control and finding your focus. But wonderful work today. I'd like to set up a schedule for us if you're up to that, training at least once a week with a cohesive plan.

That would be ideal, I would suggest twice a week then. The sooner I can better use this ability, the better.

[He was sure that this training would be very different than his training under Admiral Sloane but he was confident that he could handle it.]

I expect it will be difficult, I don't want you to make it easy for me.

[ Charles gave a soft chuckle at the thought of pushing the general during training but actually he had a feeling that the man was pushing himself quite enough on his own. He was like Erik in that regard, so much trying it became a hindrance. He obviously could do impressive feats already. Twenty minutes was a long time to uphold something like that. ]

I will have a plan the next time we meet. [ He promised this easily. It would be a plan to find that sweet spot where focus was no longer a product of effort but a necessity that didn't have any other options. And for that there would be need for a little bit of serenity. ]

That sounds good. When should we schedule our next session? [Hux didn't want to give himself a rest, he was used to constant training. There were no breaks or off time in his life, he had always been willing to sacrifice his life for what he wanted to accomplish.]

I'm available most evenings after work.

Shall we say next week? Monday and Thursday at first. My situation is similar, I will be available during evenings. How about six PM? [ That would give him time to go home for a dinner and then return back to the Foundation for a few hours. ]

That would work. [It would at least give him time to change and grab a quick dinner after work, and less time for Ren to ask questions about where he was going.

He let out a breath as he gathered his strength, feeling a bit winded from expending his powers.]

Is there anything I need to bring or prepare beforehand?

No, just bring yourself and we're set. I will handle the rest. [ Charles reached over to squeeze the general's arm. Like he did with everyone else, easy and comforting. ] I'll look forward to it.

Shall we call it a day, today, general?

Yes, that sounds good.

[He was used to being exhausted at the end of the day, it was a good feeling to have accomplished something. He looked down at Charles's hand on his arm, freezing up. This would be a different sort of training, he would have to get used to new things but he was still adjusting.]
