And no matter what I do
WHO: Sabriel and YOU, yes you!
WHERE: De Chima and Maurtia Falls
WHEN: The rest of June!
WHAT:
WARNINGS:
RISE HQ, Maurtia Falls
[It's strange, not having Armstrong around. Sabriel's been busy though- going over paperwork, calling up government officials, sending messages to potential recruits, and going through everything Armstrong left behind, trying to decipher where she'd left weapons caches.
Most of the time, she's at the desk in her office, especially when she's arranged meetings, but she can occasionally be found in the training rooms, practicing with her sword.]
De Chima 007
[Sabriel's never seen herself as much of a homemaker. She can cook, and keep things tidy, but it's a chore, not a passion. Still, it's cheaper to cook things instead of constantly getting takeout, and it tastes better than prepackaged foods. And Sabriel's the kind of person who takes some measure of satisfaction from doing things properly, even if it's something like cooking or cleaning.
So most evenings, there's the smell of something cooking, or Sabriel just sits in a chair, reading a book or practicing Charter Magic, liking together marks while taking notes with her free hand.]
Feeling sad, any city
[Kaneda, Magicman, Kagerou, Kid... When she has to stop and think about it, it hurts how many people she's lost. Sabriel disapproves of brooding and wallowing- it's a waste of time, and useless- but there are times she can see the appeal. Sometimes, when going about her business, she finds herself stopping at familiar places, remembering time spent with friends- whether fighting, talking, or simply having fun, and trying not to dwell on it.]
None of us belong here. Eventually, all of us will leave.

3rd one sorta near water
FRAGGIN'-- SERIOUSLY?!
[sabriel will find riptide a road or so over, having tripped over a car. he's sitting on his butt with a bunch of people around him.]
I said I was going left! Learn how to drive!
no subject
Riptide? What- did you get into an accident?
no subject
I think so. This idiot can't drive! Tell him, Sabriel. Tell him how stupid he is!
[he guy Does Not Look Happy.]
no subject
Can you stand up? I'm sure it wasn't your fault, but it's best not to block traffic for longer than you need to.
no subject
M'not apologising. He cut me off!
no subject
no subject
riptide just crouches down and pushes the guy's car with a finger.]
no subject
[Sabriel gives the driver an apologetic look. How is she going to fix this?]
no subject
[the driver swears again, then decides this isn't the hill he wants to die on and starts getting back into his car.]

[crosses his arms again.]

RISE, later next wk
a grim way to think about it, and one he's not apt to thinking like, and yet all the same, the thoughts stew in his head as he finally approaches the building, pulling the door and peering in. he's not exactly sure to expect; a bar? like the one Kanaya had?]
Excuse me...
Re: RISE, later next wk
Sabriel's heading down the hallway when she realizes someone's arriving- and turns to greet them.]
Please, come in!
no subject
[he startles a little, stepping in proper. he straightens with the click of the door closing behind him while he looks for the source of the voice.]
Oh, uh. Thank you... [he hesitates.] I'm--this is the right place, isn't it. RISE? [has to be. but he as to ask.]
no subject
[Sabriel's out of her armor, dressed in a suitjacket and slacks. She pauses, drawing herself up to her full height and squares her shoulders, trying to make sure she looks authoritative.]
Is there something you needed?
no subject
I heard about this place from Jacob. He...said it might be a good place to go for help. I've still got some catching up to do, since the last time I was here, Archangel was the organization that was big around here...
no subject
It's... been a while since then. Archangel did a lot of good, but working outside the law imposes limitations. It doesn't matter how much control criminals have over the police, they can't send them against RISE.
no subject
Is it really still so bad? The corruption on the inside... [the exact inside he plans on applying for, training for, banking his hopes on.]
no subject
no subject
[a beat.]
I came because I want to understand what this group does...and what it means to the people in and outside of it. Because, ah...[he smiles faintly, looking back at her.] I'm trying to avoid making the same mistakes twice. Is that alright?
no subject
no subject
he doesn't mind the sentiment, but...]
Do you think that's best? I mean, I think it's good to have as many hands around to help each other, but... [he frowns, hands going in his pockets as he tries to put words to what he's thinking. it's a little tough, coming up with those kinds of philosophical things on the spot. he shakes his head.] Mm, I don't know. It's hard to say...
no subject
no subject
self-consciously, he scratches the bridge of his nose, looking past her.] I...I think I was more thinking of...how it would keep ImPorts still separated. From...everyone already here, I mean. [his eyes wince when he looks back.] Something like that.
no subject
no subject
after a beat, he follows up, his head tilting just slightly.] So...so, right now... How is it? Between RISE and the authorities...
no subject
no subject
A-- [he hasn't explained himself at all; he goes pink, embarrassed in realizing it.] I'm going to be trying to join the police force here, you see. And I wanted to make sure I understand what ImPorts are doing outside of it...so I can help better.
no subject
no subject
[he extends a hand.] I'm sorry for not introducing myself properly. I'm Manabu.
Feeling Sad
no subject
It might just be nothing- just a jogger staring at a somewhat well known imPort.
Still, she starts walking.]
no subject
You alright?
no subject
no subject
But usually you do that in the privacy of your room.
[Wow Eda, be rude now.]
no subject
Isn't that what parks are for? Walking and thinking?
no subject
[Wow, what a jerk.]
DID SOMEONE SAY MORBID BROODING? | Heropa!
[He inclines his head to indicate at her hip.] Or maybe you mean that in some other way?
[Not many normal people carried swords around, in this era.]
[ooc; I'm assuming she has her sword on her! lmk if she doesn't usually carry it]
no subject
Sabriel twitches, barely suppressing the reflex to react as though she's been attacked.]
I mean metaphysically, imPorts don't fit into this world. When we die, we don't enter this world's afterlife, and none of us can access it even if our powers would normally allow it.
no subject
[Duo's eyebrow raises, looking at her for a long moment before he takes another step forward, hands digging into his pockets instead.] With a device that can control even Death, that's to be expected, I suppose. If the existence of imPorts is unnatural to this world, it makes sense that our souls can't cross into whatever place they're meant to go.
If one exists, here. We're not made of the same 'stuff'.
[He gives her a thoughtful look, then extends his hand.] I get a feeling like I've met you, someplace.
no subject
no subject
You're... one of Hers, right? [He digs his hands in his pockets again, looking back at the building she was staring at.] ...No wonder. It's for the best that we all get out of here eventually, of course, but it's hard to adapt to the loss of those you build your support structures around.
[Boy, did he ever know that.]
no subject
I've met people here- people who were my friends, almost family- and now they're gone. And I'm not sure what to do about it.
no subject
But... I guess I'd always lived that way. I should have expected it. [Even though he never really got over it at all.]
How long you been here, Sabriel?
no subject
no subject
....I was there for a year, and saw so many pass through. Friends from home, new ones. Wonder how long it'll be this time. [At least he knows better than to try and get attached to anyone this time, right? Right?]
