o1. WITH A MATT
late afernoon
Huh...?
[Manabu blinks, staring inside the fridge and its surprising lack of rice pudding.]
But...I just bought some this morning... [and he'd only been gone, what? four hours? still! Terry's too nice to steal and Sadie's...well. she has particular tastes, and he's not sure he can picture her eating something so bland and non-alcoholic.
he frowns, straightening back up and closing the door. a faint jingle gets his attention, and he glances over, seeing Ace lazily meandering by, completely disinterested in the situation.
Manabu squints.
it...can't be the dog, can it...?]
o2. WITH A BAT(MAN)
evening
[this will be the first and probably last time Manabu gets kicked out of a library because it's past closing hours. it certainly wasn't because he's terribly studious, mind; he just fell asleep and nobody noticed until the night staff showed up to clean. how anyone can manage to study anything alone here is a marvel to him...flying cars maybe should've gotten pushed back in favor of more engaging learning material, he thinks.
he yawns loudly as he swerves his bicycle around a street corner, gliding down the gentle slope of the darkened block. not so much night life in this part of town; just lots of hair salons and breakfast diners and jewelry stores. some of the street is cast in dim, faded neon from still-lit signs, but aside from that and the usual street fare, not much to see on this route home.
a car rushing by nearly drowns out the sound of glass breaking nearby, but Manabu catches it. he frowns, slowing a little, not sure if he's just hearing things. but--no. there's another loud clatter. he halts altogether and strains to listen, trying to discern how close it actually is.
behind one of these stores...?]

So it might be a surprise when when Matt turns a corner and reaches down to scratch Ace behind the ears. ]
Hey boy, need to go outside?
[ He's holding something. A container. An empty container. A likely very familiar looking empty container.
Aaaand then. He notices the stranger at the fridge. ]
...Who are you?
no subject
[Manabu startles with surprise at the sight of a kid in the house. when did he get there and who let him in? (and who's supervising him? not Sadie...)
but then--]
AH!! [my pudding...! he looks a little despairing, realizing that. it almost makes him miss the real important thing here: strange kid in the house.
coughAHEM.] Ah--I'm. I'm Manabu. I...are you visiting...Terry? [he squints. then winces.] ...Sadie...?
Sorry for the massive delay you may kill me now
[ He looks around and makes note of the broom in the corner of the room... Just you know. In case he needs it. ]
I live here. Terry's my brother.
[ If you look hard enough! He does look an awful lot like his big brother. A very suspicious mini McGinnis. ]
You're not a robber, are you? Cause if you are you're making like the biggest mistake ever.
[ The only one stealing anything around here is Matt. ]
NO CHILD MURDER! only tags
but ANYWAY:] His brother, really? [his mouth twitching in a weak smile.] Wow. What are the odds..
no subject
[ Comic book universes. Designed to give you a headache.
He glances down to Ace again and decides this stranger might be legit. From what he's heard the Bathound probably wouldn't take well to intruders and seems calm enough right now. ]
I'm Matt.

fortunately for Manabu, Ace has been pretty ambivalent about him. unimpressed, maybe? for all the disinterested snorts he gives whenever Manabu tries to interact with him. maybe he should be offended to be deemed so harmless by a dog, but...eh.
he drops his hands back to his sides and gives a small bow.] I'm Manabu. I'm sorry for not meeting you properly before. [his eyes wince as he eases out of proper posture.] I've been kind of busy.

Moments later, a voice can be heard coming from said alley.]
Little late to be shopping, don't you think?
no subject
after a moment hesitating, startled by the sudden flyover, Manabu shakes his head, quickly running across the street and between two of the stores, back to where he'd seen the light from those boots disappear.
he skids to a halt well shy of the small cluster of people back behind the store; a pair of legs dangling and quickly scrambling in through the broken window they'd seemingly been hoisted up to.
their attention is on the voice coming from who-knows-where, sending them frantically searching for the source-- seeing only Manabu lit by a streetlight behind.]
Uh-!
[stealth isn't exactly his greatest skill.
he grimaces when he's pointed at.]
no subject
As soon as he sees the man reaching for his gun, Terry's moving, cursing "slag it" under his breath as he moves.]
This alley is getting awfully crowded all of a sudden. Let's make some space.
[With a leaping kick, he kicks the gun out of the guys hand before he can fire. Rolling to his feet, he quickly punches the guy before he can go for it. This inspires the rest of the group to do something, with most focusing on surrounding Batman, though a couple still have their eye on Manabu.
Sparing a glance over his shoulder, Batman yells out:]
If you're just going to just stand there, could you at least not stand directly under a spotlight that says "shoot me"?
no subject
things are moving quite fast, and the shadow-man is right: he can't just stand there waiting to get caught in ricochet fire from those acrobatics. but he also can't just high-tail it and leave this mess behind him.
he runs in, counter to the demands of the pair threatening to make him regret it, hunching down and making a dive, tackling one around the waist before they can get a proper shot off. it throws the other off-balance, which suits Manabu just fine; he wrestles to get to his knees and land a few heavy punches on the one under him before fighting to disarm him.]
no subject
He fires a batarang at one of the goons, knocking a gun from his hands, while kicking a second goon in the chest into a nearby dumpster.]
no subject
[he freed the gun from the attacker's hand, himself pointing it at the other man on the ground starting to get up.]
It's not worth it. Just sit still!
[the man underneath him still fidgets to try and get an arm up and do something about this, but Manabu has a free hand to press on his shoulder as a warning. he's struggled to be as aggressive as he needed to be to stop a fight in the past, and he's not too keen on having to fire on anyone for something this frivolous, but Manabu can't appear that honest right now. the fewer people actively trying to fight, the quicker this mess stops.]
no subject
No guns.
[With that he shoots into the air with the help of his rocket boots,a nd dives into the broken window after the would-be robber.]
no subject
right. sure. even the guy halfway off the ground agrees hey! no shooting!]
As long as you sit still and keep your hands where I can see them. [then that'll be no problem.
he needs a free hand to get his communicator out, so he gives the guy under him a look while he does so, despite the sudden whining to aw man not call the cops...
exasperated:] I'm not actually sure what you were expecting!
no subject
Batman emerges from the window about a minute after that, carrying the guy who made it inside over his shoulder. The guy is out cold, and sporting a bat-shaped pair of handcuffs on his wrists.]
So do you always just stand under streetlamps waiting to get shot?
no subject
he winces a little at the remark, still keeping the two remaining, conscious men at bay.]
I don't make it a hobby... A-anyway, if you have more of those cuffs, can you help me out here? [he doesn't want to have to sit here for however long it takes the cops to show up.]
no subject
The way you stood so perfectly in the light, you could have fooled me.
no subject
the gun gets set aside so he can cuff the guy he's sitting on and finally get back up.
a little, indignant puff in his voice:] I had to assess things first! [lies.] It wasn't like I was going to just--stand there and not help.
no subject
Could have fooled me.
[After all, you were just standing there, Manabu.]
And I had the situation handled.
no subject
Well. I didn't know that. People flying around in mysterious suits aren't really common where I'm from--for all I know you could've been up to no good, too. [so THERE.]
no subject
no subject
[ah. there. he crouches and picks it up, removing the clip. no chance he's leaving these things loaded.]
no subject
Well, you know now.
no subject
Well... [two, three-four-five...five weapons? is that right? he squints, looking around his feet, over toward the pile of unconscious people, and back around at the two cuffed beside him.
he blinks, looking up and over toward shadow-guy.] Part of that superhero stuff means cleaning up afterward? I already called police. Should I just leave the rest to you?
no subject
If the cops are coming, there's nothing left to clean up.
no subject
Aah, so...once they get here, you're out of here? Or...
no subject
You should get home.
no subject
still.]
I'll wait. [he nods.] Just in case. Someone needs to explain this mess, after all.
no subject
You're really new at this.
But do what you want.
no subject
irate:] I am not, but think what you want! Go on, then. You already said your job is done.
no subject
[Yes, Terry knows Manabu's some kind of space train cop, but if that's him on a good day...]
All right, have fun.
[With that, he gives a small wave and flies off into the night.]
