Youths in Action!! Brunch Edition
WHO: Kyle Conlen
redhott and Mitchell Hundred
viced
WHERE: American family restaurant in De Chima
WHEN: Sometime before FanPort
WHAT: Kyle asks Senator Hundred for his advice on an upcoming project Kyle is trying to create.
WARNINGS: N/A
[ Kyle, of course, is running late despite his best efforts. He went through about five different hats and hoodies until he found a combo that made him look a little less terrifying. And also not a robber. The best course of action is a baseball cap with a non-threatening logo on the front. It doesn't exactly hide his black horns, but they're at least a little less noticeable jutting from his forehead. His sun glasses are in place as always to keep the white-hot glare to a minimum.
Hopefully the Senator won't be taken aback by his new look. He shouldn't, it doesn't seem like him, but you never knew until the truth was presented. ]
Hi, I'm looking for Senator Hundred. I'm having lunch with—
[ The hostess points Kyle in the right direction with a smile to a booth where the man is already sitting with a glass of water. Shit. When he approaches Hundred he has the decency to look embarrassed. ]
Sorry, I'm late. I uhh... kinda... psyched myself out for a bit.

[ Mitchell is a Politician. Annoyed though he was at having someone show up late, he hadn't bee publicly stood up for a meeting, and that's something to be grateful for. He reached out to shake his hand, before he gestured toward the other side of the booth. ]
It can be intimidating, dealing with all this bullshit. So why don't you outline what you've got so far, and we'll see what I can do to help?

[ Clearing his throat, Kyle sits down and orders a Coke for himself from the hostess. Then he sets his notebook down and flips through a few pages (ignore the terrible doodles). ]
Uhmm, so I was thinking about organizing a panel about teens and how they can be involved in hero work safely. Back where I come from, there are youth centers to help encourage kids to use their powers for good. But since they're, you know, underage they can only work search and rescue missions. Nothing criminal, or anything.
I haven't really seen anything like that here. Just kids with powers, and that's kinda how we got our first outbreak of super villains, really. I don't want that to happen here.

I can only imagine. It's always difficult in this regard, there's the issue of minors and all of that, the implicit inability to consent, et cetera...
[ Mitchell's really just verbalizing the issues that he has with young heroes, but he stopped. ] I mean, I get it on your ends, too. I do. It's a difficult balance to achieve, you know? What are you suggesting? I know we, as well as you, would really prefer to not encourage supervillains.

[ That's Kyle's opinion anyway. He's been helping people since he was thirteen, and maybe some adult would see that an ethical hang up, it's better than the alternative: Him being sad and alone and perhaps seeking revenge on the world that fucked him over so bad. ]
Well... I'd like to start a youth center, like from my home. There'd be teachers, counselors, adults who work in the teams to help the teens on missions. There'd be help with power control, too. But on my own, that's totally not gonna happen, so I thought maybe FanPort would be a good way to find donations, or... supporters?

[ That, at least, Mitchell agrees with.
Hell, he agrees with the spirit, too. It's clear. He just knows how fucked up it can be, being a hero, how easy it is to fuck up, and how readily one can lose control, hurt someone, or cause problems.
Hell, the first night he got his powers, he stopped the entire city's power grid. ]
I think something like this center would be excellent. We have a lot of young people who could use the help to learn control. I'm with you on that. Would you, ah, how are you going to call for donations?

Uhmmm....... Hold up a box and look pitiful? I... honestly don't know.

People don't like giving money away without a plan. I'm in politics, I should know. Half the reason we make so many promises is for the money to make our campaigns possible. Why --
Why don't you have a panel? With a plan. What you told me, but more fleshed out, obviously. Something to give people a reason to give you money? Charts, anecdotes? Maybe people who are out there learning, and have them talk about what they need as a part of it?
Something to put a face to it?
