August Swear-in!
WHO: imPorts!
WHERE: De Chima Sports Arena!
WHEN: Thursday, August 18
WHAT: Registration at the first De Chima Games! Come and participate in this friendly competition of athletic prowess!
WARNINGS: None anticipated, please note if you need this edited!
Welcome to the De Chima games! De Chima's ambassadorial office has set up a series of athletic events to increase unity, peace, and friendship between the imPort and the native community! ImPorts are welcome to try their hand at competition, or just participate in a fun game of good-spirited competition. Held in a stadium in De Chima on a perfect day (how lucky!) this event is being heralded as a great way to increase friendship in the community!
The Games have various stations. After the Opening Ceremonies, which is not terribly ostentatious, but has a fun performance, and obviously, lots of food and beverage (and a picture of Komasan, the terrific mascot of these Games) the stations break down as follows:
ImPort prowess!
ImPorts show off their powers, but all for good! Native populations are here to witness spectacles of flying, strength, and speed! There are demonstrations if people choose, and the Native population is mingling and asking for autographs! Are you a superhero who wants to show people what good they can do? Then this is your chance! Characters can show their powers off as they want, and there will be time to mingle with the crowd - and other imPorts - to explain what they do and how they do it. Characters can also combine powers if they wish, or enter in contests with each other. Characters can also be spectators, if that’s more their style. And for characters who aren’t interested in participation directly, there is always the prep area: a place for participants to prepare, that needs some helpful hands to give advice, hold bags, and generally provide support!
Friendly competition!
In this section of the games, power suppressors are used to even the playing field between native athletes and imPorts! Are you the fastest runner in the world? Do you stack up again Yusuf Thunder, the fastest (non imPort) man in the world (why yes that is his real name!)? This is where you'll find out! At the end people will be judged on a 1-10, and of course there's always one biased judge! And friendly ribbing, gentle mockery, and wholehearted support is always welcome! There are several sports to choose from, including track and field, gymnastics, volleyball, and of course, table tennis (the most popular sport of them all!). Characters can enter contests and win or lose, but either way there will be a chance to speak to fans, rivals, and friendly competitors after. Characters can also be spectators; there’s plenty of arena-style seating to allow for meeting up, heckling participants, or passionate cheering (or booing, if that’s more your style). Government officials will be handling the power suppressors: they will be anklets or bracelets that characters will wear for the duration of the event only, and none can be taken from the games, as they’ll be collected quickly by the same officials.
Celebration party!
Not a gala, but a low-key, genuine sort of dance and socializing event to wrap up the day’s festivities and promote cross-cultural understanding! There's food and drink, naturally, but mostly it's a dance party in the stadium after the games conclude! Characters can mingle with each other, of course, and dance on the dance floor; there will be strobing lights and tons of balloons and streamers in a rainbow of colors. For characters less inclined to dance, there are tables and chairs on the outside of the arena-turned-dance floor, with small tokens of appreciation - small “gold” (plastic, naturally) medals with imPort’s names on them, and other fun trinkets like that - kazoos and party crackers, small toys and party favors.

Celebration
Thanks. These look decent.
[ He lifts a few pieces of something chickeny to load onto a small plate of his own. ]
They're good, aren't they? The dancers. They make it look easy.
no subject
I'm not sure I could manage. I mean, it's one thing to stumble my way avoiding traps in ruins, or sparring or fighting, but....
[Sure, there were probably some sort of festivals with the seraphim, but not quite like this.]
no subject
[ That's a surprise. And, true to form, Gansey's attention is now lost to the dancers, because there will never be a time when archaeology doesn't appeal to him more. All at once, he's looking at Sorey with a far more focused interest.
And then he smiles. ]
I try to leave those places how I found them. Stumbling causes a definite problem, but if you're going somewhere with traps, I suppose it's hard to avoid. Are we talking about pyramids?
no subject
[But they were still sheltered. Never leaving Elysia and the protection of Gramps' domain until years later when Sorey was seventeen. But the topic of ruins has Sorey all but lighting up. Ruins and history are his favourite, he could ramble for hours on end if he is allowed to.]
Pyramids? No. I want to see them though! I read about them, and I've been looking into stuff all over, here, with my job. I hadn't really looked into if there's anything we need to do to go out there. With those...um, planes! That's it!
[They still used horses and the like back home in Glenwood okay.]
no subject
They're absolutely worth a visit. Some months ago we were invaded by Russia, and a number of us managed to evacuate to Mexico. There's an incredible pyramid not far from the capital, I couldn't help taking the opportunity. Of course, that was my second time visiting - but I had to see if it was the same here as it is in my own world. So much of history is different here, it's fascinating.
[ And he is clearly warming to his theme. He takes a mint leaf from his pocket and slides it into his mouth. ]
What's Elysia by the way? Your world?
no subject
The history and...a lot of things are different here from home for me and Mikleo too. Elysia is the village we grew up in.
no subject
It was tense, because we were worried about what was happening here. They wouldn't let us leave until it was done. But within the city we had quite a lot of freedom. The pyramid was amazing - so old, such a feat of architecture. They're enormous. I've visited Giza as well, and the scale of these things, for ancient people to build without technology, it's just marvellous.
I've not heard of Elysia, though. Sounds like Elysium. [ Which he says with a faint little smile. ] What's it like?
no subject
[Sorey breathe. And give the guy a chance to answer.]
Elysia? It's pretty small and there weren't too many of us there. Mikleo and I were the youngest. But that's home. One place protected from the outside world and malevolence by Gramps and his domain.
no subject
They're incredible. If you can go, you absolutely should. If things weren't in such limbo between the US and Russia, I'd tell you to go now. I don't know if they've put a block on international travel for imports. I suppose you could ask.
[ He could ask, too, he thinks, with some interest. Maybe a trip wouldn't be out of the question. Now that he's thought of it, the temptation lingers in his mind.
It takes a back seat to curiosity, though. ]
What, ah...what malevolence? I hope it's not rude to ask, that's certainly not my intent.
no subject
[At the question of Malevolence, Sorey rubs at the back of his neck, raising a hand.]
Ah, it's okay. I haven't felt any here so maybe it is just something that happens back home. But Malevolence is spread through impurities. Through negativity.
no subject
[ And Gansey is not, nor does he have any intention of being so. He's been down that road before, and having made the decision to remove his name, he's sticking with it. ]
Much as I don't like the thought of being held here, I like the thought of being AWOL even less.
Impurities, though. What kind of negativity? I mean, are we talking about negative emotions, or...something more like magic?
[ It sounds like the latter to him. If it's not, he probably sounds like a crazy person. Ah well, at least he's used to that. ]
no subject
[Maybe down the line one or both might change their minds. But for now, they are enjoying the advantages that come with it.]
Hn. I guess a bit of both? More....emotions, but I haven't seen that turning people into hellions here. So maybe it is something specific to Glenwood.
no subject
[ Gansey’s thumb runs along his lower lip. After a moment he catches himself at it and drops his hand. That developing interest he’s feeling is very familiar. If he’d worried that it might leave him now that his quest is done, he has his answer. ]
So it’s magic, then, of a sort. Tell me about Glenwood. Are we talking about a place, a town? Or an actual wood?
no subject
[Still. That's part of what is so exciting about this. Being here and all. Sorey can't help but be excited and curious.]
no subject
[ He doesn’t really. To Gansey, ‘Glenwood’ is a very curious name for a world. It sounds like a forest and not a whole planet. But still, he can hardly judge. He’s not from the place. He smiles instead. ]
Everywhere is different. My world is Earth, like this one, but even it’s not entirely the same. This world has whole countries that my Earth does not, and the town I’m from there doesn’t exist here. I’m not surprised yours is different again.
no subject
[He wonders if all other versions of Earth have the same sort of ruins and history. That much might be harder to say, when he knows nothing to little of it apart from what he has learned here.]
no subject
[ Gansey smiles. ]
There's some from space, or from various other planets. That was exciting for me when I first came here. I'd never met anyone not from Earth.
no subject
Right? There's so much more history, so many more ruins to think about with all these other worlds!
[He's not actually five, he just gets. Really pumped up when talking about history and ruins okay.]
