He looks back to the item and between his tattoo, realizing they could see it. He holds his plush closer to it.

[ She looks back down at the key chain, reaching into a pocket for her keys. ]
I guess, it's just . . . everyone comes from different places. And the more you learn about people . . . the less it's really possible to compare. Different people, different worlds . . . different experiences. Sometimes it's all hard to understand.
[ There isn't much on her key ring. One shiny standard key for Heropa's government housing. One much older, battered house key to her parents' apartment. And one almost antique brass key for her dorm room, kept long after the dorms themselves had been destroyed. ]
. . . other times . . . sometimes, I guess, with some people . . . it's not that hard at all.

He spies the key ring, something that looks far older than the housing keys. He's not sure of the significance exactly, other than it means something to her. But what she's saying...it speaks to him.
