WHAT: Kidnapped imPorts have their powers turned on as LACKEY is rendered defunct, and take control of their own fate! In the meantime, their rescue crew is hot on their tail, ready to free them from their underwater prison.

It is January 29th, DAY NINE of the imPorts' kidnappings. Conditions remain mostly the same, but it would not be any surprise if it were to seem worse to the kidnapped imPorts, particularly if their spirits have begun to flag. Their accommodations are just as cramped as they started out as, and without any access to outside life or common luxuries, being stir crazy is the least of their worries. Any food that was not shoved through the slot on the door has been left out in the heat of their bodies to rot, and their washroom circumstances certainly haven't improved over the week.

And to make matters worse, there has been a cannibal -- one or more -- within their midst. Some kidnapped imPorts may have noticed body parts being unceremoniously shoved through the food slot, only to be devoured by Ken Kaneki. Needless to say, these aren't circumstances that anyone wishes to prolong.

Luckily for the imPorts, they'll notice something odd. LACKEY's voice, no matter who it was talking to, will suddenly begin to sputter unnaturally to a halt... and in a sudden surge, each and every imPort will find their powers returning. Just beyond their door are 45 guards inside of the submarine they are trapped in, but with over fifty powered imPorts more than capable of simply ripping the door off of its frames, it's a much less daunting prospect. What will you do from here? Will you kill them, or will you attempt to salvage their lives, though they made no attempts to salvage yours?

Regardless of your actions, help is on the way! The intrepid RESCUERS are en route to the imPorts' location, and not long after their powers have been turned on, they will be reunited, taken care of, and will finally see the sun once more.

Remember, you may play out out all stages of the direct rescue process in this log, including before and after freedom has been achieved!

Once the imPorts have been brought back to the Antarctic Base, they will be instructed to wait for American planes stocked with medical professionals to touch down on Antarctic soil. ImPorts' wounds will be tended to, and they will be flown directly back to their homes, where they will be given further medical care as needed. If they are in possession - or are friends with those in possession of - teleportation or transportation powers, they are free to make their own way home as well! The planes are simply there out of consideration for everyone who will need a more traditional way home.

[Kaneda looks antsy. Happy, but antsy as all hell, and Riku can't help the little smile that worms its way onto his face.]

Don't drown us, please. I'm not interested in being a penguin.

[rassera]

[Kaneda stops at that voice, hand resting on one of the ladder bars as he looks over. By now it should be obvious--Riku was always there to calm him down if he needed it. It was like some system, unconsciously embedded into their brains.]

You're more like a seal. Those giant ones!

[Yeah, he saw those at the zoo. HE KNOWS.]

[But he makes his way over, easing the worries of the American soldiers for the moment and plopping down next to him.]

Just...want to get to the surface already.

[resipiscent]

[He raises a brow, leaning back in his seat. Maybe he was the calming presence out of the two of them, but that didn't mean he was entirely calm himself -- it's only now as Kaneda sits beside him that he's aware of how rigidly he's holding his body. He forces himself to relax as he thinks about the comment.]

"Those giant ones"? How flattering.

[rassera]

You know, the ones with the big teeth!

[ K A N E D A you are not helping.

But it's loosening them both up, the way his shoulder nudges into Riku's. Whatever power he had over the boy was working like a charm, relaxing and taking his mind off their slow ascent.]

[resipiscent]

Right, yes, of course. [Now he knows exactly what he's talking about and it's not a seal at all and he's just gonna cover his eyes with one hand for a moment.

He lets him lean, though, tilting his head back and closing his eyes. The captive imPorts have got it a lot worse than them, but right now it's hard to feel anything but tired, even though they've done it, everyone's safe, they can go home. Feels like he needs to nap before he can deal with this, though he won't be able to sleep likely until he's all the way back home.]

[rassera]

[It's a little moment away from the world, needed by both of them as they wait for the surface to come to them. But he's right, Kaneda can't rest until he's sure everyone's safe with his own eyes. Only then would he be able to finally stop.

There's a sigh, more just for letting out air than anything.]

It's over.

[resipiscent]

... yeah.

[Kaneda lets out a little sigh and Riku nods, just a little bob of his head. His eyes crack back open, staring up at the ceiling.]

I.... can't help but feel like there's more, though. I don't want to jinx it, but.

[His eyes slide shut again, Riku reaching up to rub at them with the heel of his hand.]

[He follows Riku's gaze, looking up at the ceiling soon after.]

You think Maya's doing okay up there?

[resipiscent]

Yeah, I do. She's working really hard with her sword training. And she's tough to begin with.

[Besides, she's not alone. Wild Tiger's up there, and a bunch of other people, some of whom he knows and some he doesn't.]

Message her, if you're worried.

[rassera]

It’s just...the fires in Heropa. That’s where she--[He cuts himself off, shaking his head.] No, you’re right. She’s got this.

[Although that won’t stop him from pulling out his phone to send her a text anyway.]

How much trouble could she get into, anyway?

[resipiscent]

I know.

[The fires in Heropa were the reason Riku invited her to come and train, to be honest. It probably would have come to him as an idea eventually, but that was what kickstarted it.]

Um, if she's anything like you and I, then probably a lot. But I think she can handle it.

[rassera]

[Things that are not helpful, Riku: That. Kaneda KNOWS what trouble he gets into, he doesn't need that compared to Maya of all people--queen of getting into trouble.]

She's not answering.

[resipiscent]

[Riku turns his head in Kaneda's direction, squinting a little.]

Isn't that because you texted her? Give her a call.

[rassera]

[Well, it's worth a shot. Hitting the call button, he holds it to his ear, head tilting back and forth as he waits.


...and waits.]

[resipiscent]

[From here he can hear if Maya picks up, so he's quiet, curious.]

[rassera]

[Eventually, his face falls.]

Not answering.

[resipiscent]

Let's go find her, then.

[rassera]

She'll be fine.

[It's more like he's telling himself that, though. Instead of Riku.]

[resipiscent]

Yeah, she will.

[He's sitting up now, though, looking uncertain.]

You want to stay here?

[rassera]

The moment we hit the surface...

[And he gets up, going back to pacing around the room.

What was TAKING so long? Why wasn't Maya answering?]

[resipiscent]

Yeah.

[Riku watches, eyes somewhere on the floor at Kaneda's feet rather than him himself. He's not really the best person for this -- Sora's better at it than he is, being optimistic. But, realistically, there are about a hundred reasons not to pick up a phone besides being in trouble that he can think of. He's not going to go on about them, though. That's just annoying, because there are about a hundred ways to be in trouble.]

... You're going to wear a hole in the floor.

[rassera]

[Kaneda stops once more, Riku's voice penetrating where anyone else's words can't. Eyes cast down, one hand reaching to grip a rung on that ladder as he leans against it. It's defeat, in a way--there's nothing he can do to make the sub go any faster. But...


There was another reason. He wants to be the first one up top.]

We both know she's got this. Right?

[resipiscent]

[He nods, then stands after a moment, moving to join him. He stands at the wall beside the ladder, a sentinel more than a leader. Riku leans his temple against the metal, eyes closing. He won't be able to sleep until a long time from now, but he's tired.]

She does.

[One eye cracks back open. He's got a little smile on his face.]

She'll be mad you don't have faith in her.

[Gooood morning Antarctica, Kaneda's head perks up faster than a groundhog on February 2nd.

Unfortunately, he's got it right underneath one of those ladder rungs, and his head bonks against it]

Shit!! Ow..owowow...

I have faith in her!

[resipiscent]

[Riku's eyes both open, startled. He's still smiling, but at least it's a little apologetic.]

I know. Hold still.

[He opens his hand, casting Cure. He doesn't have all that much energy for this, but he can make it stop hurting, anyway.]
