this post has too many dogs [open]
WHO: Hawke and whoever!
WHERE: One park in De Chima, De Chima #005, the De Chima farm.
WHEN: Late November
WHAT: Hawke doing Hawke things, this happens to involve way too many dogs.
WARNINGS: n/a
01, who let the dogs out in De Chima
[ As per usual, taking the mass of dogs still living at the De Chima shelter out to play in the nearby park is one of Hawke's favorite parts of her job. No people (not that she hates them, but c'mon), tons of dogs, and a small hoard of tennis balls -- slimy with drool -- to throw. Even off-leash, it's safe enough. They unerringly return with what they catch or, if bored with the game, remain nearby, even when the toys end up in the nearby grove of tree.
At worst, she has to go after to fetch one or two that take to barking at squirrels in there in lieu of returning with the tennis ball, and that much she hardly minds.
Anyway, another month, another batch of dogs making a pretty big clamor when they come and go after whatever she throws. If nothing else, it's entertaining to watch for a bit. ]
02, and then that one dog at De Chima #005
[ Dogs aren't even restricted to her work anymore, as it would so happen #005 has added a new member to the household. Currently still small and incredibly fluffy, Dane is, in spite of the name, not at all the breed someone might assume. So when Hawke goes home from playing with one set of dogs, she has to go about playing with her own, though the variety of fetch they play in the front yard there has a lot more enthusiastic stumbling when Dane goes flying off after the stuffed toy she throws.
While indoors, it's a careful task to not stumble over him instead, the way he's endlessly trying to be underfoot. ]
03, and also dogs at the one farm outside of De Chima?
[ Why are there so many dogs in her life...?
Is she really going to be upset about that, though? No? Of course not.
While Dane's far too young to take on the incredibly long stroll that's required for her to reach Lucy's farm, she certainly doesn't have to worry about the day being dog-free. On top of that, no one at all can ever worry about the mage sneaking up on them while up there, since even the quietest of their dogs -- the older mustachioed one -- immediately begins barking or, if they can, takes off to run up to her the second she's within their range of noticing. While the porter-gifted power of "all dogs love Hawke" helps, she'd like to think it's more attributed to the fact all of these came from the De Chima shelter. She's already a well-known human, one that typically comes with treats. ]
Well, someone sounds like they've missed me for ages.
[ Which, considering how often she visits the farm, must translate into, at most, a week. ]
or something completely different?

angrybears, let's do a thing! ]

even dogs in Heropa, closed to Max
No matter.
Everything checked out, but by the time she began back towards the porter building, she was very aware of the new entourage she was picking up. Dogs, dogs from goodness knows where. They had a knack for leaping fences and slipping their leads to end up trailing along down the sidewalk after Hawke and, while she loved meeting new ones, it meant she wouldn't be getting home for another few hours after all. ]
You know I have to take you all back to your homes now, don't you?
[ She scolds the dogs, but they don't seem to mind! They're just happy she's there. Now, all she needs is to find a decent place to stop and check collars...
But until then, they hog the entire walkway, forcing people to move or be moved by a mass of fur and wagging tails with Hawke at the head of it. ]

Ow.
[She's used to this, but she's not used to a face full of apologetic, worried dog, and Max begins to laugh as she finds her face suddenly covered in dog kisses.]
Hey! Cut it out! I'm okay!
no subject
[ And most listen, though one wiry little one keeps snuffling and trying to clamber all over Max. That one, at least, she should be able to move on her own. Now Hawke backtracks a few steps to check on the girl herself.
That she's laughing is a good sign, so, hey, at least they didn't get someone scared of them... this time. ]
Sorry about that. They really have no manners. [ That said, Hawke offers her a hand, if she needs help up. ] You all right down there?
no subject
I'm okay. A bit bruised, but it's nothing serious. Thank you.
no subject
[ No worries, then, if she's up just fine like that. Hawke steps back once she's sure Max truly can stand on her own, turning her attention back down to the offending fuzzballs as she does. She clucks her tongue disapprovingly at them, hands settling on her hips. ]
Though you lot, watch it. Don't think I won't tell on you if you keep knocking people over like that!
[ Scolding dogs, they know the tone of voice. There's some whining and everything over it, but Hawke isn't about to stay mad (not that she ever really was). Instead, she relents with a sigh. ]
People here really do need to train their dogs better...

How come you're walking so many?
no subject
no subject
Then why are they following you around?
[Not that she'd complain about cute dogs following her. ]
no subject
[ But since that might fly over Max's head, Hawke adds in explanation: ]
Which is to say, it's a power.
no subject
[Nope. She doesn't get it.]
That's an awesome power! I bet you've made a lot of friends.
no subject
[ So a place. As to her awesome power, though, Hawke can't help but smile some. It's impossible to stay annoyed at dogs for her, it really is. ]
Oh, tons. I've also been accused of stealing a lot of friends, by their owners, but it was always rather fun to watch them deal with their dog liking me more than they did them at the time.
no subject
[She's still getting used to that.]
I'll bet. Do you have a dog of your own?
no subject
[ It does take awhile to get over the many worlds thing, so Hawke won't hold it against her. ]
And I do. I finally gave up on avoiding it and adopted a little pup. Well, little for now, anyway.
no subject
[Never mind that technically, they're in one. Imagine the pictures she could take there!]
Aw! What's its name?
no subject
[ Like dragons. Awesome and fun to watch! Until it tries eating you. ]
He's called Dane, after one of our old heroes. Supposedly a werewolf or... related to werewolves. It kind of depends on who's telling the story.
no subject
[Curious Max is curious.]
Wowser. You've got werewolves where you're from?

Is your friend a big guy with horns, by any chance?

no subject
[ Which is actually very, very strange, but Max doesn't need to know her friend is an odd duck. ]
We'd be talking about the same kind of dragon, then. We're both from Thedas.

I'm from Arcadia Bay, in Oregon.

Is that on Earth?
no subject
[Diagonally, even.]

[ She asks as she idly scratches the ears of one of the random dogs lingering around near her with a head at hand height. ]
