Get in, Loser, We're Going Shopping
WHO: Riku, Kaneda, and Maya (Tall, medium, and small)
WHERE: the mall at DeChima
WHEN: Nov. 21
WHAT: Kaneda is gross and has like, one single T-shirt. Riku and Maya are here to change that.
WARNINGS: Kids being dumb, but nothing beyond that!
[When your friend refuses to wear more than one T-shirt, the best way to fix that is CLEARLY to buy him clothes, because then he can't refuse to wear them, right?
At least, that's the logic Maya and Riku are operating under today, though it's also partially just a shopping trip to have fun. After meeting up outside the mall and heading in for a bite to eat at the food court, they're on their way, and Maya initiates the first step when they pass a HIP TEEN CLOTHING STORE.]
Guys, guys, c'mere.
[And, to assert her point, she loops both her arms around one each of theirs, intending to drag them with her.]

Then again, back home he didn't necessarily have the option. Most of his clothes were hand-me-downs from the orphanage, or something he literally put all his life savings into (the leather jacket). So when it came to clothes, he pretty much chose 'whatever fits'. And sometimes, even that was a bendable rule.
So when Maya and Riku claim that they have to get more shirts (apparently having holes and tears in your shirt is against the law now) for his wardrobe, he reluctantly tags along. He could pick up some new ones, yeah.
But it would take like...ten minutes. Right?
Right?]
no subject
He can make eye contact with Kaneda above Maya's head and he can't help his grin when he sees the look on his face. Riku's pretty sure he wasn't expecting actually having to go into stores dedicated solely to clothes.]
What?
[Sounds like she's got something in mind, which may or may not bode well for Kaneda.]
no subject
She lets them go once they've passed the store's threshold, because clearly that means they can't escape, and she gives Riku a sly grin before heading over to a rack of men's shirts and very blatantly looking for something... subtle. Yes. Because shirts with comic book style pictures of pizza are totally fucking subtle.
It's this shirt that she holds up to Kaneda, shamelessly leaning back and peering over as though trying to get a good view, like an artist at a canvas.]
Whaddya think, Riku? Too big? Too small?
no subject
…
[Yeah, he'll just turn to look at some other shirts, mostly plain ones--black, red, yellow...anything like that. He's a guy of simple tastes as he picks up a black v-neck (looser neck, not bad) and holds it up to himself. It...looked like it fit. Good enough. Cue him throwing it into the crook of his elbow and moving on to something else.
Sorry, were you sizing him up for something? He's wandering.]
no subject
I can't really tell without him putting it on.
[And then Kaneda's doing the same thing and just accepting it, and Riku squints at him, because that was the worst job of deciding what size to choose he's ever seen. He knows there's stuff he takes for granted that Kaneda has no idea about, and suddenly he's wondering if this is one of those things.
... should he comment on it? He's on the fence.]
no subject
You know some of those aren't even gonna fit you, right? Are you even reading what's on the.. tags...?
[Wait a second.
Maybe he.. .isn't. She grabs one of the shirts out of Kaneda's arms and instead of putting it up to Kaneda, puts it up to Riku, as if to prove a point.]
See? This is too big for you! It's-- actually, this is pretty much your size, huh, Riku?
no subject
He didn't really see the issue, honestly. He held it up to himself, and it looked like it fit width and length wise. It...wasn't a kid's shirt or anything. So what if it was baggy? It was clothing. As long as it went around your body, that's all that mattered, right?
But he looks at the shirt, and to Riku.]
Looks like it fits him. But I thought we were shopping for me.
[Okay, so he's aware of what long and short are, but not that 'clothes should really fit to the body' and not 'will this literally fit on my body'.]
no subject
He reaches out, takes the shirt and holds it out, arms extended, so he can look at it properly. He looks back to Kaneda, lowering it to lay it flat in his lap so he doesn't completely wrinkle it.]
Maya's trying to say it should fit neatly, rather than just being able to get it on and being content with that.
[Rather than wearing a tent.]
no subject
[Her demeanor changes, like she's reciting a lesson from someone else. Someone more graceful, someone with the aura of a big sister.]
If you don't show you respect yourself, no one else is gonna take you seriously! So you've gotta make sure whatever you wear actually fits right.
[Whether it's a medium's uniform or an attorney's suit.]
no subject
Pride in a Tshirt...?]
They're just clothes...
[But hey, he'll try it.]
What about this one?
[He holds up the remaining shirt, fitting way better than the other one would have, certainly. And from judging the tag, looks like it could fit him snugly, if comfortably.
Guess that was a lucky draw.]
no subject
Riku nods, standing up. The second choice is a little closer, and he hands the first shirt to Maya, then tilts his head in the direction of the dressing room.
Sorry, Kaneda, this is going to be longer than ten minutes.]
Go try it on.
no subject
Even if you're not sure what size is on the tag.
[Subtle. Totally subtle.
She gestures with her arm, in case Riku's head tilting isn't enough, before re-racking the t-shirt she'd been passed.]
no subject
They had...rooms for this.
But he snaps his attention to Maya, because he totally caught that little jab. His signature pout comes out, the lower lip jutting out ever so slightly as he walks past (and maybe giving her a little nudge for that comment).
There, that got him to smirk a little.]
no subject
He gets up, touches Maya's arm gently.]
We should probably go tell him whether to keep it or not.
no subject
[Though Maya's been grinning the whole time, she doesn't miss it either-- it's cool, though, everyone expects her to be making fun of you in her mind all the time by now.
She follows Riku shortly after, and once they've waited outside quite long enough, she calls--]
Don't forget to show us when you're done!
no subject
Seriously, he walks in, pulling off his shirt in one quick motion (maybe checking out all his scars since the mirrors right there...damn, Kaneda) and taking that black shirt to throw on instead. It's a bit tighter than his yellow one, fitting more to his body and arms, and the neckline a little lower, pointed at the bottom.
Eh.
Leaving his shirt there (he's pretty sure no one's going to steal it), he opens the door again and struts out]
Alright Maya, you happy now?
no subject
Riku sits patiently in the loveseat outside the dressing room -- this place has pretty nice furniture, actually. It's like a cream-coloured leather upholstery, and he's kind of checking that out idly when Kaneda comes back out.
He gives it a once over, tilting his head a little. Fits pretty well, anyway. Though he suspects Kaneda is still growing and that he might not be able to completely wear it out like the yellow one.
He looks up at Maya.]
What do you think? Fits.
no subject
She then gives Riku a look, a mischievous, cat-like look.]
I dunno.
[She leans back on one hand, crosses her legs, and uses her free hand to motion in a circle.]
Turn around for us.
no subject
It did fit, he supposed. It fit snug around him, which was a little tighter than he was used to, but it wasn't constricting.
...
A smirk. Yeah, like he really doesn't know what you're up to, girl.]
My pleasure.
[Let him just about face, putting his hands in his pockets and putting his weight on one of those legs.]
no subject
Not bad.
And then he's looking up at Maya, grinning himself.]
I think it meets specifications.
no subject
[Still grinning like the cheshire cat, Maya laughs openly, unashamed. They're all having fun, so there's no need to be embarrassed, right?]
Now you can just match the size on that tag for all the other shirts you buy. See? That was easy.
no subject
Kaneda you can't just DO TH--whatever you're doing it anyway.
Sorry guys. You get a full look of all them scars from his overpass accident.]
Medium.
no subject
Right. So go get your own shirt and we'll find more like that one.
no subject
[Maya, at least, has the decency to swat at Kaneda to coax him back in the direction of the dressing room. As funny as this is, she doesn't want them getting kicked out just because Kaneda has the common sense of a four month old puppydog.]
We brought you back here for a reason, you know!
[She pouts a little, but before she gets him too far, she makes sure to be nosy.]
What did you even do to yourself?!
no subject
Riku, save me!
[A pause, looking over his shoulder at his back.]
...Almost fell off an overpass, that time.
