- Cape Canaveral. It's no longer the heat of the day and in January the temperatures will be livable; not too hot and not too cold, either. A pleasant change from the City, perhaps. The sun is on its way to setting but the last light of the day still fills the sky, bursting the city into color. The air smells like ocean.
The locals are friendly and smile and wave, looking on at you in awe. They'll approach if you ask for help, or a question, but they don't want to interfere, either; if you want to be left alone you probably will be. American flags can be seen in many windows and restaurants are rolling out their dinner menus. There's no parade, no big banners, but many storefronts have handmade signs and posters that read:
The woman at the Porter told you what to expect: You know what your tattoo means, you've been given your file, and you know in a few hours they're going to be here to answer more of your questions and see if you'll stand with them or if you'll go off on your own. "It's your decision," one of them had said, but you were already told what you get if you agree and what you don't if you don't. After that's done, she told you, you'll be driven to your new homes.
In the meantime, enjoy the area, or try to. It may not be what you're used to, but after the apocalypse even Florida might seem like an improvement.
( open )
She's still holding onto her cat, who has not stopped trembling and growling ever since all hell brook loose in the City. She strokes his neck softly, whispering quietly that it's okay, though her voice betrays her.
She can see her brand new tattoo when she peers through her glove with X-ray vision, a frustrated scowl settling onto her face. ]
How is it even...?

Hey, remember that time I told you that the Porter likes to dump us into random places..? [ Haa, if only it was applicable here. ]
Have you seen many of the others? I'm looking for people. You're probably looking for people as well. Let's talk about who we've seen?
no subject
[ Right, Rin's probably not aware of the secret identity thing. She doesn't mull over it long; there are more important things to focus on at the moment. ]
I think I saw the Riddler, but I didn't feel like making small talk with him.
[ Plus he appeared to be in one piece, so she's sparing herself the headache.
Her cat wriggles against her arms. ]
I'm not sure if this is random.
no subject
The Riddler? Doesn't seem like a nice name to call someone.
[ But she's right. There's something different about this. ] You saw it before coming here too, didn't you?
[ Her voice is lowered this time in an attempt to not sound all that crazy out loud. ]
no subject
[ Rin's question might have been vague, but Peej knows immediately what she's asking about. She pauses, looking a little discomforted. ]
Which part? The lungs or that suspiciously expensive looking door?
no subject
It wasn't right. I don't think I've ever seen anything like that before.
no subject
Talk about convenient timing.
no subject
I've read different variations of the ending of the world and rarely do they mention anything that fits everything we've witnessed the past few days.
no subject
If this is just another week long crummy vacation where we get jumped by monsters before being ported back... then we'll find out.
no subject
[ Lowering her gaze. ] I hope that it is. When the City does this usually, they don't send everyone so that makes a bit of sense. All this fanfare about loving us though--that's the unbelievable part.
This all feels so surreal.
no subject
[ It all seems positive so far, but... it doesn't hurt to take care. ]
Anyway, you doing alright?
[ She could scan her herself, check for any bruises or broken bones, but she seems to be in good shape. ]
no subject
It's difficult to tell. [ To which statement she means that to isn't clarified.
Instead, she focuses more on the earlier remark. ] So far it appears as if we're welcomed, I've said that already, but is that really the truth?
no subject
... Possibly. [ Another quick pause as she eavesdrop on their conversation. ] "... it's been years."
[ A frown. ]
So, they seem just as clueless as us.
no subject
[ It never occurs to her that people have powers like these, so she just assumes it's a woman's intuition she's yet to master herself. ]
I suppose all we can do is wait and hope to discover more answers than questions in our immediate future.
no subject
[ She winks at Rin before adjusting the cat in her arms so he's as comfortable as he can be. ]
I'd like to ask our military buddies what else they know. Or at least the higher ups.
But before that, I really need to find a kennel for this little guy and food.
no subject
It would be a pain to carry a pet around. [ She airs her own complaint with that. ] I guess there's enough time to learn everything about this place after taking care of your fella there.
no subject
[ She sees those people are still watching them in silent awe and raises an arm to beckon them over. ]
You guys! Come over here. Yeah, you.
no subject
What are you doing? [ Spoken in a hushed whisper as she tries to understand the reason behind summoning them. ]
no subject
[ She answers before the two make their way over, casting them each a bizarrely starstruck and curious look before focusing on Peej. Their eyes wander to her chest, unsurprisingly. Peej leans in marginally, propping one of their head's up to focus on her face. ]
Can you not? I've got a face.
Anyway, [ she nods at her cat. ] Where's the nearest pet store in this place?
no subject
Ugh... yes, the pet store. Where is it?
[ She's got three of them to jerk a thumb at for emphasis. ]
no subject
That wasn't hard. Thank you.
Now please stop staring at us and trying to eavesdrop. We're busy women.
[ She makes a shooing motion and they slowly wander off, though they don't seem nervous once they've gotten a distance away from the two, whispering about how awesome it was to have spoken to them. ]
I wonder if they'll let me put a kennel on a tab?
no subject
They might? We're pretty valuable to them now for whatever reason. [ Something she plans to uncover as soon as she can. ] May as well see how much they allow us to get away with.
no subject
[ She doubts not having the money for something like that is going to change public opinion like a switch, but better not to provoke people idolizing them too much. ]
no subject
[ Interesting, but not bad. Someone has to. ] I wonder what all we can and can't do here. I was told about school and other things like that... ah, but I haven't been to a school in over a year. It'd be strange.
It's as if I'll have even more of a normal life here. Do you think it'll be the same for you?
no subject
[ She's really not about keeping a squeaky clean image, only doing the right thing for people. ]
Did they enroll you in school? [ She's surprised by the idea. imPorts are unstable population. ] It depends on this "registration" business.
