[It feels something like a vacation- this whole past week has really, now that they've settled in and had time to take in the world around them. They have a decent hotel room booked for a few nights, nice new outfits, and schedules that allow for both appointments and casual walks around town.

Hermann watches the news and finds himself grateful for every day the news passes without mention of monsters bursting out of the sea. He's not sure how long it will last, but for the first time in a long while, he has hope.]

[The two may have heard workers in town discussing a massive construction project taking place fifteen minutes' drive or so out of the city proper. Driving out past the suburbs, into a wooded, hilly region, they'll indeed find a sudden huge swath of clear-cut forest where concrete and steel buildings are being erected with fairly impressive rapidity.

Should they park in the makeshift lot and find a security guard, he might take them to a very tall, broad-shouldered man in a dark blazer and a hard hat, who's leaning over a table looking at blueprints. The man looks up and straightens at their approach.] Can I help you gentlemen?

[It's out of the way, but they're here and it certainly sounds interesting, so they take a taxi out to the site, dressed a little down to avoid potentially ruining their new suits.

It's an impressive-looking project, although Hermann suddenly doubts the wisdom of coming out here. Nonetheless, he steps forward first to offer a hand]

Mr. Xanatos? I'm Doctor Gottlieb, and this is Doctor Geiszler. We're in town for the weekend looking at various research institutions and caught word of your project. If you have a few moments, we'd be interested in hearing more about it.

[Xanatos shakes it, his grip firm and unyielding. He may have actually been a football player once upon a time, not just looking the part.] Doctors. A pleasure you could take the time to come out here and look at our facility.

This is the humble beginnings of the multi-billion-dollar De Chima Research Center complex. Three square miles of the most state-of-the-art gizmos and equipment money can buy, financed by Xanatos Enterprises in conjunction with StarkTech and some other local institutions.

What's the primary area of your research?

[ The new complex looks like it will be huge, almost a campus, so maybe a promising place for a research facility, whenever it is finished. Newt's never really been one for civil engineering, but he lets his gaze wander over the construction site and the noises almost remind him of the Shatterdome hangers.

He shakes the man's hand and feels kind of tiny.]

As for my research, my focus lately has been silicon-based xenobiology--understanding what makes them tick and how to combat them. Herm--Doctor Gottlieb is a physicist and mathematician. He coded the initial Mark I Jaegers himself.

So what kind of research are you planning to focus on?

[Well now. Silicon-based xenobiology? The way he talks about it, it doesn't sound theoretical... actual alien life, perhaps? To say nothing of 'Mark I Jaegers.' But all in good time.] Only if you feel free to call me David, Newt.

My interests lie in biochemistry and medical research as well as robotics and aerospace engineering-- I'm planning on a rather magnificent wind tunnel about three hundred feet behind me-- but this center is for all disciplines. I'm sure we can fit in something for the two of you.

[Newton's casual exchange seems to go well, gaining an easy first name out of the man. He isn't about to use it or offer his own, but it's a promising sign, nevertheless. Of course, 'Jaeger' doesn't mean a lot to too many people on its own, but he can expand on that later if needed]

A research facility of such scale and variability sounds exceptionally ideal. [A place where he can freely ponder the new laws of physics and interdimensional travel with all the equipment he could ever ask for and no pressure for production] May I ask what sort of timetable you're looking at for completion and opening?

Of course. Between our sizable resources, the fairly advanced technology of this world and some useful powers, I'm anticipating a fairly rapid construction period. We should have the main center with its computer bank and several clean rooms online by the end of October. The more advanced equipment and facilities... they'll take a little while longer.
